Top 2020 Democrats Co-Sponsor Ocasio-Cortez’s Bonkers Green New Deal Plan
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., made a big splash Thursday after she rolled out the framework for a Green New Deal with Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass. The plan, which calls for massive government intervention in the economy to bring America to “net-zero emissions” in 10 years, was introduced as a nonbinding resolution to state the intent of Congress to pass Green New Deal policies in the future.
This is not just the fever dream of Ocasio-Cortez. This plan is going mainstream in the Democratic Party, with no fewer than five 2020 presidential candidates co-sponsoring the resolution.
We can't wait another second for bold, meaningful action on climate change.
We can solve this crisis and prevent catastrophe. But we must all rise to the challenge.
I'm proud to join @SenMarkey, @RepAOC and colleagues across Congress on an historic #GreenNewDeal resolution.

I’m proud to co-sponsor @AOC and @EdMarkey's Green New Deal. We must aggressively tackle climate change which poses an existential threat to our nation.

If we want to live in a world with clean air and water, we have to take real action to combat climate change now. I'm proud to join @RepAOC and @SenMarkey on a #GreenNewDeal resolution to fight for our planet and our kids’ futures.

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., are also co-sponsors of the Green New Deal resolution. Sanders has not officially declared his candidacy for president but is widely expected to do so.
Additionally, 60 Democrats in the House of Representatives are backing the Green New Deal, according to the Washington Post, and four more Democratic senators who are not running for president (yet) as well.
I took a look at the plan earlier and others have had a chance to read it too. The reviews are in: The Green New Deal, which all of these Democrats support, is NUTS.
.@ChrisCPandolfo read @AOC's Green New Deal resolution. There's lots of big government, not much freedom, and it won't stop climate change.

Ummmmmm the Green New Deal outline that AOC's office released says her plan is to "upgrade or replace" EVERY BUILDING IN THE COUNTRY https://t.co/sjBy6ammGX
— Lachlan Markay (@lachlan) February 7, 2019
Back of the envelope math: That means retrofitting 39,179 buildings/housing units every day for 10 years straight.
137,403,460 housing units in U.S – Census Bureau (2017)
5.6 million commercial buildings in the U.S. (87 billion sq of floorspace) -Dept of Energy's EIA (2012) https://t.co/LcsSBn6hyi

One provision in Green New Deal:
“Expanding high-speed rail to ‘a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary’”
Wonder how that will poll. https://t.co/o6J4M1RzvJ

"Ban Cars: #GreenNewDeal would like to replace every “combustion-engine vehicle” — trucks, airplanes, boats, and 99 percent of cars — within ten years…

The Green New Deal is really heavy on the specifics. https://t.co/HWybqIz9D9 pic.twitter.com/0jozsYJdjO

I also like the part about the deal guaranteeing "economic security" for people "unwilling to work" pic.twitter.com/VHjSgLPrpI

And the plan to pay for it all?
The plan to pay for the #GreenNewDeal is, "we'll print more money." Unreal. pic.twitter.com/MGLCYGFAy9

Five of the top Democratic 2020 contenders are backing the Green New Deal. If any of them win the DNC nomination, this radical plan to overturn the American economy becomes a plank in the Democratic Party platform.
This is the big idea on the Left heading in to the 2020 presidential election. The question is, what’s the big idea on the Right? (For more from the author of “Top 2020 Democrats Co-Sponsor Ocasio-Cortez’s Bonkers Green New Deal Plan” please click HERE)
