House Formalizes Impeachment Inquiry Into President Biden

In a significant move, the House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to formalize an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. The resolution, adopted by a vote of 221 to 212, grants House investigators the authority to enforce subpoenas and collect evidence regarding allegations that the president may have traded official acts for foreign dollars, potentially compromising his position.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) stated that the formalized status of the inquiry will empower investigators to delve into key issues, including two loan agreements totaling $240,000 between Joe Biden and James Biden. The resolution was supported unanimously by Republicans, including a surprising vote from Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), who had initially signaled opposition to the impeachment focus.

On the Democratic side, there was a unanimous block vote against the resolution’s adoption. The White House faced criticism for failing to provide requested information, including details about loan agreements, 99.98 percent of records from President Biden, documents related to a $5 million bribe, and materials concerning the mishandling of classified documents.

This vote served as a test for House Republicans, who currently hold a slim majority that is expected to diminish further after the resignations of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Rep. Bill Johnson (R-FL) in the coming month. McCarthy had opened an “impeachment inquiry” on September 12, but the formal approval was only secured on Wednesday.

Amidst the political turmoil, Hunter Biden, the president’s son, faced scrutiny as he appeared at the Capitol for a press conference following his failure to attend a subpoenaed closed-door deposition. House investigators, particularly House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) and Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH), initiated contempt of Congress proceedings against Hunter.

Recent polls indicate widespread skepticism among Americans regarding the Justice Department’s handling of the Hunter Biden investigation and raised concerns about potential criminal activities involving President Joe Biden.
