George W. Bush Maxes Out Political Donations to Trump Impeachment Supporters Liz Cheney and Lisa Murkowski

Former President George W. Bush gave the maximum allowed political contributions to Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney and Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, two Republicans who supported impeaching former President Donald Trump over the January 6 Capitol riot.

New disclosures filed with the Federal Election Commission said Bush gave Cheney $5,800 on October 28 for both the general and primary elections. On December 31, he also gave Murkowski $2,900 for her primary. The FEC sets limits on political contributions.

Cheney, the daughter of Bush’s own vice president, Dick Cheney, and an outspoken Trump critic, now serves as the lead Republican on the House Select Committee investigating January 6. She’s set to face off against Harriet Hageman, a former RNC official who has been endorsed by Trump, in an August primary. Cheney has outraised Hageman by more than four to one — $2 million for Cheney versus $440,00 for Hageman — FEC disclosures showed. . .

Cheney was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump over inciting an insurrection on January 6, while Murkowski was one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict him.

FEC records indicated that Bush didn’t make any other political contributions in 2021 before October. (Read more from “George W. Bush Maxes Out Political Donations to Trump Impeachment Supporters Liz Cheney and Lisa Murkowski” HERE)

Coghill v. Bird: Constitutional Convention Debate Set for Feb. 1

With the recent, quick and dismissive ruling by the Alaska Supreme Court over the blatant unconstitutionality of Ranked Choice Voting, we have officially entered the next stage of public discourse, naked judicial tyranny. In the past, there was some semblance of decorum and the facade of judicial impartiality. Some.. semblance. Over the last season of COVID they have now realized that the facade is unnecessary and the mask can come off. No one is watching the watchers and they know it, and they know that WE KNOW that they know it… and they simply do not care.

The sad fact is, I believe the corruption of Alaska politics is complete. The fix is in, and while we had already planned to host a constitutional convention debate, we had no idea the Supreme Court would wantonly disregard the actual State Constitution so quickly, flippantly in fact, as to reinforce the need for Alaska to begin this conversation. Our constitution CLEARLY spells out how we must elect our governor, and it is the job of the supreme court to adjudicate laws as abiding with, or repugnant to, our state constitution and rule accordingly. The reality is they no longer have to even pretend they believe that the constitution means what we say it means.

On February 1st, 7PM, John Coghill of Fairbanks, former Republican Alaska Senate Majority Leader and multi-term senator will square off against Bob Bird of Kenai, Chairman of the Alaskan Independence Party and Radio Talk Show host, at Valley Performing Arts in Wasilla. Special thanks to VPA for allowing the event at their facility during their spring schedule.

The debate will be Lincoln-Douglas style for an hour of moderated longform point and then formal rejoinder from the opposition. This will be an exercise in statesmanship and a battle of ideas, not the embarrassing, childish bickering we were all subjected to at our most recent presidential debates. At the end of the hour, there will be a 30-minute Q&A for guests to question presenters.

Worthy of note, these two gentlemen both align on the conservative side of the aisle, which is important for a nuanced discussion because while Bird believes a CON CON is truly the only option left to Alaskans, Coghill believes the risks outweigh the potential rewards. There is a case to be made for both sides. Were this simply a debate between the political left and right, it would likely sway no one, as politics there have largely devolved into memes and team sports thanks to the quick dopamine hits of social media and society’s reluctance to read.

Imagine if the political left were to have the courage face its own cancel culture and meaningfully argue with its own side… be a bit like watching Bill Maher say things with which you are totally shocked to agree.

One thing is for certain, we cannot wait until summer or fall to start fleshing out the need, the considerations, and the mechanisms for conducting a constitutional convention. This discussion must begin in earnest, NOW, so the people of Alaska have ample time to look around at our state and decide for themselves whether the gears of politics in Alaska grind slowly but effectively, or whether the gears have now bound up in the rust of corruption and must finally be fixed. There is much to consider and this decision cannot be made lightly.

Tickets to this lively debate are available here.

Election Overhaul in Alaska Aimed at Reducing Partisanship

As partisan warfare has become the norm in state legislatures and Congress, Alaska is set to embark on an experiment to see if voters themselves can disarm the combatants.

A new election system, narrowly passed by voters in 2020 and set to be used in this year’s races, is aimed at getting candidates to appeal to a broad range of voters beyond their traditional base. The system would end party primaries and send the top four vote-getters, regardless of party affiliation, to the general election, where ranked-choice voting would determine a winner.

The model is unique among states and viewed by supporters as a way to encourage civility and cooperation among elected officials. A sponsor of the initiative, Republican-turned-independent former state lawmaker Jason Grenn, called Alaska a test case “in a major way” for similar efforts being considered in other states, including Nevada. Palin Wants ‘Masked Singer’ Footage Barred From Jury in NYT Suit

Sarah Palin wants jurors to be barred from seeing footage of her appearance on “The Masked Singer” in her defamation case against the New York Times that may go to trial in the coming weeks.

In a court filing in the Manhattan federal suit Monday, the former GOP vice presidential candidate listed a number of proposed exhibits she wants hidden from the jury because they could cause “unfair prejudice and confusion,” among other issues.

Among the exhibits listed are “Masked Singer Video – Dancing and Rapping” and “Masked Singer Video – Reveal.”

The list includes dozens of other proposed exhibits that Palin doesn’t want a jury to see unless a judge signs off on their admissibility beforehand.

A number of press articles about Palin and the Times’ editorial are included on the list, as are multiple statements made on social media and other content from the internet. (Read more from “Palin Wants ‘Masked Singer’ Footage Barred From Jury in NYT Suit” HERE)

Alaska Airlines Cuts Down on Flights for Rest of January as Airlines Continue to Scramble

On Thursday, Alaska Airlines announced it will be cutting down its flight schedule by around 10% for the remainder of the month of January as it addresses ongoing staffing and weather issues.

ABC News reported:

Alaska’s announcement came on a day in which more than 2,100 U.S. flights were canceled by early evening on the East Coast, according to FlightAware. The tracking service said that equaled about 8% of the day’s scheduled flights, and it was the 12th straight day of 1,000-plus cancellations, which airlines blamed on the virus surge and winter weather.

Worldwide, airlines had canceled about 4,700 flights.

‘Let’s Go Brandon’ Merchandise at Alaska Exchange Crossed AAFES’ Line on Vulgarity

The Army and Air Force Exchange Service is emphasizing a ban on the sale of lewd or profane products in its stores after a vendor in Alaska sold figurines carrying a crude catch phrase aimed at the commander in chief.

In the days leading up to Christmas, a temporary vendor at the exchange on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage sold wooden bear figurines fashioned to resemble former President Donald Trump and holding signs reading, “Let’s Go Brandon,” according to the Anchorage Daily News, which first reported the sales.

The foot-tall bears sported long red ties and slicked-back blond hair in Trump fashion, the newspaper said. . .

The independent vendor’s short-term stint at the Alaska base had already ended by the time the agency learned of the prohibited merchandise, AAFES spokesman Chris Ward told Stars and Stripes by phone on Monday.

“The exchange routinely reviews products to determine their compliance with the Exchange’s prohibition from selling items that are illegal, promote the use of drugs or alcohol, contain racial or ethnic slurs, promote racial or ethnic supremacy, or include words, symbols, or scenes that are lewd, profane or vulgar,” he said. “If the product is determined to be in violation of restrictions, the exchange takes immediate corrective action.” (Read more from “‘Let’s Go Brandon’ Merchandise at Alaska Exchange Crossed AAFES’ Line on Vulgarity” HERE)

Former Alaskan Sex Offender Named ‘Pirate’ Sentenced for Burning Disabled Woman

An Idaho sex offender named “Pirate” was sentenced Tuesday to time served for burning a disabled woman with a cigarette.

Pirate, who spent a year in jail before he was released last month, won’t do any more time behind bars for the crime but was ordered to pay $515 as part of a plea deal, East Idaho News reported. . .

Pirate, 43, was accused of burning a woman with disabilities in November 2009, the Idaho State Journal reported.

He had met the victim on a dating app and later stayed in her home, allegedly burning her multiple times and flicking ashes in her mouth, the Journal said. . .

Pirate has a long rap sheet, reports said. (Read more from “Former Alaskan Sex Offender Named ‘Pirate’ Sentenced for Burning Disabled Woman” HERE)

Baby Found Abandoned in Fairbanks With Heartbreaking Note From Mother (VIDEO)

An infant was found abandoned in a cardboard box in Alaska with a heartbreaking note from the desperate mother who said she could not afford to feed her baby.

Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of an abandoned baby found around 2 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, officials confirmed in a statement.

Temperatures at the time were in the single digits with a wind-chill of 12 below, according to the National Weather Service.

The baby was found by Fairbanks resident Roxy Lane, who posted a video on social media of the note and the baby, who was swaddled in blankets and cooing softly. . .

The baby was taken by EMS to a local hospital and was “found to be in good health,” according to state troopers. (Read more from “Baby Found Abandoned in Fairbanks With Heartbreaking Note From Mother” HERE)

Trump Endorses Alaska Gov. Dunleavy – If He Doesn’t Support Murkowski

Former President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday he is endorsing GOP Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy’s reelection bid, as long as Dunleavy refrains from backing Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) in her race.

Murkowski was one of seven Republican senators who voted to convict Trump earlier this year on a single article of inciting insurrection in connection with the deadly Jan. 6 riot at the US Capitol. She is the only one of those seven to come up for reelection next year.

Trump did not mention Murkowski’s impeachment vote in an emailed statement from his Save America PAC, which initially stated that Dunleavy “has my Complete and Total Endorsement” before adding that support was “subject to his non-endorsement of Senator Lisa Murkowski who has been very bad for Alaska, including losing ANWAR, perhaps the most important drilling site in the world, and much else.”

“In other words,” Trump emphasized, “if Mike endorses her, which is his prerogative, my endorsement of him is null and void, and of no further force or effect!”

The 45th president endorsed Murkowski’s primary rival Kelly Tshibaka in June and he has vowed to travel to Alaska to personally campaign against the incumbent. (Read more from “Trump Endorses Alaska Gov. Dunleavy – If He Doesn’t Support Murkowski” HERE)

‘Over My Dead Body’: Palin Tells TPUSA Conference She Won’t Get Vaccinated (VIDEO)

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin drove a crowd into a frenzy when she told them she would never get a vaccine.

“It’ll be over my dead body that I’ll have to get a shot,” Palin told attendees of Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest 2021 in Phoenix, AZ. “I will not do that. I won’t do it, and they better not touch my kids either.”

When asked by TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk what she would say to people who might be fired from a job or kicked out of school over an unwillingness to comply with a vaccine mandate, Palin answered, “I think if enough of us … rise up and say, ‘No, enough is enough,’ there are more of us than there are of them.” (Read more from “‘Over My Dead Body’: Palin Tells TPUSA Conference She Won’t Get Vaccinated (VIDEO)” HERE)
