Alaska GOP Endorses Trump-Backed Challenger to Murkowski

The Alaska Republican Party endorsed Kelly Tshibaka over incumbent Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski on Saturday.

In a 58-17 vote, the party’s central committee approved the endorsement of Tshibaka, giving Alaska’s former commissioner of the Department of Administration an additional boost.

Former President Donald Trump endorsed Tshibaka after his long-fraught relationship with Murkowski disintegrated further over her decision to vote to convict the former president at his second impeachment trial earlier this year. Trump vowed to campaign against “a disloyal and very bad Senator” in March and announced he would not be endorsing the 20-year incumbent “under any circumstances.”

Murkowski was censured by her state party in March, with the Alaska Republicans agreeing to “recruit a Republican Party challenger to oppose and prohibit Senator Murkowski from being a candidate in any Republican primary.”

In a June statement announcing his support for her challenger, Trump slammed Murkowski for her vote to confirm Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, who suspended drilling leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

New Voting System Scrambles Alaska 2022 Senate Race

Conservative activists in Alaska aren’t pleased with GOP Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s moves to the middle. Whether that makes the political scion vulnerable in her 2022 reelection bid is an open question, according to a new poll.

That’s because starting next year, Alaska will move to a “top four” and “ranked-choice” voting system. All candidates will appear together on one primary ballot, with the top four advancing to the general election.

In November, Alaska voters will rank candidates in order of preference. Assuming no candidate gets above 50%, the last-place candidate is removed in each round of balloting until somebody has a majority.

Some believe this voting system will favor Republican challenger Kelly Tshibaka, who has criticized Murkowski for voting to impeach former President Donald Trump in his second trial and backing some of President Joe Biden’s Cabinet nominees, among other things. Murkowski also drew criticism from the Right after she became the lone Republican to oppose Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation in the fall of 2018. Rumors of U.S. Secretly Harboring Top China Official Swirl; Pushing Against China, U.S. Lawmakers Plan Pro-Taiwan Bill

By The Daily Beast. Chinese-language anti-communist media and Twitter are abuzz this week with rumors that a vice minister of State Security, Dong Jingwei defected in mid-February, flying from Hong Kong to the United States with his daughter, Dong Yang.

Dong Jingwei supposedly gave the U.S. information about the Wuhan Institute of Virology that changed the stance of the Biden administration concerning the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dong is, or was, a longtime official in China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS), also known as the Guoanbu. His publicly available background indicates that he was responsible for the Ministry’s counterintelligence efforts in China, i.e., spy-catching, since being promoted to vice minister in April 2018. If the stories are true, Dong would be the highest-level defector in the history of the People’s Republic of China.

Dong’s defection was raised by Chinese officials last March at the Sino-American summit in Alaska, according to Dr. Han Lianchao, a former Chinese foreign ministry official before defecting after the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre. In a Wednesday tweet, Han, citing an unnamed source, alleged that China’s foreign minister Wang Yi and Communist Party foreign affairs boss Yang Jiechi demanded that the Americans return Dong, and U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken refused. Pushing Against China, U.S. Lawmakers Plan Pro-Taiwan Bill

By Reuters. Democratic and Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives will introduce legislation this week seeking to boost U.S. support for Taiwan, part of an effort in Congress to take a hard line in dealings with China.

Representatives Ami Bera and Steve Chabot, the Democratic and Republican leaders of the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Asia subcommittee, will introduce the “Taiwan Peace and Stability Act,” a measure “to support the diplomatic, economic and physical space” of the self-governing island.

“Hopefully we’re able to pass something in a bipartisan way on the House floor,” Bera said in a telephone interview. “I think this is an area where we can hopefully speak with one voice.”

Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry expressed thanks for the show of support, and said it would pay close attention to the bill’s progress. (Read more from “Pushing Against China, U.S. Lawmakers Plan Pro-Taiwan Bill” HERE)

Alaska Hiker Found Alive After Being Attacked by Bears

A missing hiker made it out of the woods and flagged down help after she was attacked by bears in Alaska, authorities said.

Fina Kiefer, 55, had contacted her husband asking for help early Tuesday after multiple bears charged at her on Pioneer Ridge Trail near Palmer, state troopers said. . .

It wasn’t until Wednesday evening that one of the members of the search crew notified troopers that Kiefer had walked out of the woods and flagged him down for help.

Stephen Dunphy, the volunteer who saw Kiefer emerge from the woods, said she “was standing on the side of the road.” (Read more from “Alaska Hiker Found Alive After Being Attacked by Bears” HERE)

Donald Trump CONDEMNS Lisa Murkowski: Washington Democrats’ ‘Best Friend’

By Breitbart. Former President Donald Trump released a statement Monday afternoon that condemned Lisa Murkowski as the Washington Democrats’ “best friend,” reaffirming his vow to “campaign against her.”

“Senator Lisa Murkowski has cost the great people of Alaska billions and billions of dollars by voting for Radical Left Biden appointees, which in turn led to the revocation of ANWR drilling,” Trump said in the statement, noting, “Alaskans have been fighting to see [this] happen for six decades.”

Trump continued to write, “Not only did Murkowski kill the biggest economic stimulant for the State, but also one of the biggest energy producing sites in the world.”

“Nobody thought ANWR could be opened. We got it done, and she allowed it to be killed,” the former president added.

He added that Murkowski is the “best friend Washington Democrats ever had—and Alaska’s reward for that betrayal is an empowered Left coming after their wealth and jobs.” (Read more from “Donald Trump CONDEMNS Lisa Murkowski: Washington Democrats’ ‘Best Friend’” HERE)

The Latest Attempt by the Liberal Media To Distract Us Over Trump DOJ Story Just Blew up

By Townhall. The New Republic tried to fan the flames about Trump’s war on the press and how only Joe Biden can end it. It’s a piece which aged poorly, less than 72 hours because The Washington Post’s publisher elaborated that Joe Biden’s DOJ intensified what the previous administration was already doing (via WaPo):

During the final days of the Trump administration, the attorney general used extraordinary measures to obtain subpoenas to secretly seize records of reporters at three leading U.S. news organizations. After this was reported last month, President Biden rightly decried this attack on the First Amendment, calling it “simply, simply wrong” and assuring Americans that it would not happen in his administration.

Unfortunately, new revelations suggest that the Biden Justice Department not only allowed these disturbing intrusions to continue — it intensified the government‘s attack on First Amendment rights before finally backing down in the face of reporting about its conduct.

After Biden took office, the department continued to pursue subpoenas for reporters’ email logs issued to Google, which operates the New York Times’ email systems, and it obtained a gag order compelling a Times attorney to keep silent about the fact that federal authorities were seeking to seize his colleagues’ records. Later, when the Justice Department broadened the number of those permitted to know about the effort, it barred Times executives from discussing the legal battle with the Times newsroom, including the paper’s top editor.

This escalation, on Biden’s watch, represents an unprecedented assault on American news organizations and their efforts to inform the public about government wrongdoing.

Florida and Alaska Join Keystone XL Pipeline Lawsuit Against Biden

Two more state attorneys general are joining the ongoing lawsuit initially filed by 21 other states against the Biden White House for its cancelation of the Keystone XL Pipeline.

Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen made the announcement on behalf of Florida and Alaska on Thursday, noting, “The Constitution is clear that presidents do not have the power to regulate foreign and interstate commerce or to unilaterally undo an act of Congress.” The complaint filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas now includes Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody and Alaska Attorney General Treg Taylor.

Within hours of assuming the presidency, Joe Biden revoked the permit for the pipeline. In January 2017, President Donald Trump reauthorized its construction after President Barack Obama rejected the proposal in 2015. Biden To Cancel Oil and Gas Leases in Alaskan Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

The Biden White House plans to cancel all oil and gas leases in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge until a further review of their environmental impacts are assessed, according to the New York Times Tuesday.

Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, the paper reported citing two insiders familiar with the administration’s plans, will publish an order to formally rescind existing leases months after the new president mounted a White House crusade against fossil fuels on day one with moratoriums on new drilling in the Arctic and other federal lands.

Marcella Burke, an attorney who specializes in energy policy and is an alum of the Trump Interior Department told The Times the move to halt drilling in the more than 19 million-acre refuge was far from unexpected. . .

President Donald Trump opened the Arctic Refuge’s coastal plain, a nearly 1.6 million-acre stretch on Alaska’s north coast for oil and gas development in 2017 in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Alaska Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski wrote the language of the legislation to green-light projects now effectively canceled by the Biden White House. Volcano Mystery: Researchers Were Baffled by ‘Supervolcano’ Discovery in Alaska

Alaska has been in the headlines in recent days after its Great Sitkin volcano erupted last week. Last Thursday, the US Geological Survey said a red warning had been raised – indicating that significant emission of volcanic ash into the atmosphere is likely. The Alaska Volcano Observatory said a “short-duration” explosive eruption of one-two minutes occurred at 5:04 GMT on Thursday, resulting in an ash cloud up to 15,000 feet above sea level. . .

Researchers have been compelled by volcanic activity in the region and were stunned when they found what could be a supervolcano in Alaska’s Aleutian islands.

The cluster of volcanic islands could be a single giant volcano similar to that of the Yellowstone Caldera, an American Geophysical Union study said in December last year.

John Power, a geophysicist at the US Geological Survey’s Alaska Volcano Observatory, said the super-volcano would be so big, it could have disrupted civilisations around the world.

Diana Roman of the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, DC, co-author of the study, added: “We’ve been scraping under the couch cushions for data. (Read more from “Volcano Mystery: Researchers Were Baffled by ‘Supervolcano’ Discovery in Alaska” HERE)
