Republicans Win Control of the House

Republicans gained control of the United State House of Representatives, edging out a narrow victory in the tightly-contested midterm elections.

The GOP currently holds 218 seats after mail-in ballots caused over a week of delays in results, The Associated Press reported, though that number may grow as the last few remaining races wrap up. The elections were far closer than pre-midterm projections, with most pollsters predicting Republicans would take between 225 and 255 seats.

“There was a widespread anticipation that [election night] was going to be a bad night for Democrats. But, you know, the question is like, How bad would it be? It was very likely that the House would flip, and by definition, that’s a bad night by any standard, but it’s a lot less bad for Democrats than I think we thought,” Charlie Cook of the Cook Political Report told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Though final results were below initial predictions, Republicans picked up key seats in Florida, taking 21 of 28 House districts, according to the Associated Press. In New York, Republicans flipped four traditionally blue Democrat seats, taking 10 of the 26 seats. (Read more from “Republicans Win Control of the House” HERE)

Hobbs’s Lead Over Lake Narrows in Arizona Gubernatorial Race; Kari Lake Says She’s “Still in the Fight”

Kari Lake Says She’s “Still in the Fight”

Hobbs’s Lead Over Lake Narrows

Republican Kari Lake has narrowed Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs’s lead in the state’s race for governor in a Nov. 15 update.

Hobbs’s lead of 19,382 narrowed to 17,249, according to unofficial results from the office of Hobbs, a Democrat, based on new reports from Maricopa County and other jurisdictions. Hobbs gained nearly 9,700 votes in the new tranche, while Lake gained 11,829.

Hobbs now has 1.276 million votes, while Lake now has 1.259 million. The margin between the candidates is about 0.6 percent, close to recount territory.

Under a new Arizona law, a recount is triggered if the margin is at or below 0.5 percent when all the votes are counted.

Some 27,545 uncounted ballots remain, according to the office of Hobbs, who is Arizona’s top election official. That estimate may not be reliable, however—the estimate was 28,033 before the latest count, but more than 20,000 votes were reported. Mike Pence Says He Will Not Testify Before Jan. 6 Committee: ‘Congress Has No Right to My Testimony’

Former Vice President Mike Pence said that he would refuse to testify before the Jan. 6 Committee because Congress has “no right” to his testimony.

Pence made the comments in an interview with Margaret Brennan of CBS News, who asked him whether he would testify as many of his staffers have.

“I served for twelve years in the Congress, it’s inconceivable to me that one party would appoint every member of a committee in Congress, that’s antithetical to that whole idea of the committee system. That being said I never stood in the way of senior members of my team cooperating with the committee and testifying,” Pence responded.

“But Congress has no right to my testimony,” he added.

“We have a separation of powers under the Constitution of the United States and I believe it would establish a terrible precedent for the Congress to summon a vice president of the United States to speak about deliberations that took place at the White House,” Pence said. Ivanka Trump Will Stay Out of Politics

Ivanka Trump said she would stay out of politics and focus on a “private life” for her family as her father, former President Donald Trump, announced a third presidential bid.

“I love my father very much,” the 41-year-old said in a statement Tuesday night. “This time around, I am choosing to prioritize my young children and the private life we are creating as a family.”

The eldest daughter of Trump continued: “I do not plan to be involved in politics. While I will always love and support my father, going forward, I will do so outside the political arena.”

“I am grateful to have had the honor of serving the American people and I will always be proud of the many of our Administration’s accomplishments,” the statement finished.

Ukrainians FIRED Missile That Hit Poland, U.S. Officials Say; Ukraine Rules Out Ceasefire Talks

By Jerusalem Post. Initial findings suggest that the missile that hit Poland was fired by Ukrainian forces at an incoming Russian missile, Associated Press reported on Wednesday, citing US officials.

This latest report contradicts earlier intelligence provided by US officials that the missile that hit Poland was of Russian origin.

Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda had told reporters it was “most likely a Russian-made missile,” but there was no concrete evidence of who fired it, and the incident was a one-off. . .

At the time, it was widely speculated that this could have been a Russian missile. Polish officials also confirmed that the missile was of Russian origin.

However, the Russian Defense Ministry called the reports about the impact of Russian missiles in Poland a “deliberate provocation,” claiming that the Russian Armed Forces did not carry out any strikes near the Ukrainian-Polish border. Ukraine Rules Out Ceasefire Talks With Russia to End War

By Jerusalem Post. Ukraine will not consider entering ceasefire negotiations with Russia, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin declared in an interview to the BBC over the weekend.

“I don’t think that the issue of resuming any negotiations is possible,” the prosecutor general said Friday, reaffirming Kyiv’s belief that collecting evidence of war crimes committed by Russian forces in Ukraine, alongside international cooperation against the Kremlin, is crucial to holding Russia accountable for its war.

There have been no public attempts to reconvene peace talks between the two sides since initiatives to bring about a ceasefire in Istanbul during the first weeks of the conflict broke down without progress. (Read more from “Ukraine Rules Out Ceasefire Talks With Russia to End War” HERE)

‘Unlikely’ Poland Missile Strike Was Launched From Russia, Biden Says

By Washington Examiner. President Joe Biden disclosed it is “unlikely” the Russian-made missile that killed two people in Poland was launched from Russia.

“There is plenty of information to contest that,” Biden told reporters in Bali, Indonesia. “I don’t want to say until we completely investigate. It’s unlikely in the [lines of] trajectory that it was fired from Russia, but we’ll see.”

After convening an emergency meeting of G-7 leaders plus critical partners, including the Netherlands and Spain, Biden conveyed that the bloc “agreed to support Poland’s investigation … to make sure we figure out exactly what happened.”

“Then we’re going to collectively determine our next step as we investigate and proceed,” he said Wednesday morning local time. “There was total unanimity among folks at the table.” (Read more from “‘Unlikely’ Poland Missile Strike Was Launched From Russia, Biden Says” HERE)

WATCH: Fired Engineer Still Convinced Google Has Created Sentient Being

Are humans capable of creating sentient, self-aware “beings” that literally take on a life of their own, confronting humanity with all kinds of moral, ethical and possibly dystopian implications?

Blake Lemoine believes it’s not only possible, it already has happened. In June, as a senior software engineer and AI researcher for Google, he made world headlines when he revealed that the Big Tech giant was developing an artificial intelligence called LaMDA.

Short for Language Model for Dialogue Applications, LaMDA has become, in his estimation, a sentient being, aware of its existence, its wants and its needs.

Arguing that the world needed to be part of a conversation about whether or not it was a good idea to develop a technology with incalculable implications for humanity, Lemoine reported his concerns to top Google executives. They dismissed the concerns and eventually Lemoine himself after he went public.

More than three months later – now blacklisted by potential employers – he explained to WND in an in-person video interview (embedded below) why his concerns are more relevant than ever as Google presses forward with its project.

Running Man: Trump Announces 2024 Bid

. . .Following months of dropping hints about another run for the White House, former President Donald Trump officially debuted his 2024 presidential campaign at his South Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, on Tuesday night in the hope of making “America great and glorious again.”

Though Trump is the first major Republican contender to throw his hat in the ring, his announcement comes as the GOP is reeling from a lackluster midterm outing, and some in the party are weighing dumping the former president for rising star Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL).

“There’s never been anything like it, this great movement of ours,” Trump said after strutting up to the podium while Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” played. “America’s comeback starts right now.”

“Two years ago, we were a great nation, and soon we will be a great nation again,” he continued. “The decline of America is being forced upon us by Biden and the radical left lunatics running our government right into the ground. This decline is not a fate we must accept. When given the choice boldly, clearly, and directly, I believe the American people will overwhelmingly reject the Left’s platform of national ruin, and they will embrace our platform of national greatness and glory to America.” (Read more from “Running Man: Trump Announces 2024 Bid” HERE)

New Study Finds Sperm Concentration Has Halved Worldwide, Problem Accelerating

A new study from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem found that sperm concentration has fallen drastically among men worldwide since the 1970s, and the drop is accelerating.

The study published in the Human Reproduction Update built on data from a study published five years ago that gathered information on sperm concentration in men from Western countries, The Guardian reported. The newest study looked at data from 57,000 men in 53 countries around the world, finding that sperm concentration dropped 51% between 1973 and 2018, from 101.2m per ml to 49.0m per ml.

Sperm counts dropped 1.2% per year between 1973 and 2000, but the rate accelerated to 2.6% per year from 2000 to 2018, which the study’s lead author, Professor Hagai Levine, called “an amazing pace,” according to USA Today.

“The key point that needs to be made is that this is desperately bad news for couple fertility,” said Professor Richard Sharpe, an expert in male health at the University of Edinburgh.

Sharpe added, “These issues are not just a problem for couples trying to have kids. They are also a huge problem for society in the next 50-odd years as less and less young people will be around to work and support the increasing bulge of elderly folk.” (Read more from “New Study Finds Sperm Concentration Has Halved Worldwide, Problem Accelerating” HERE)

Commission Report Reveals China’s Plan for War on Taiwan

China is increasing plans for military, economic and political warfare against Taiwan and the U.S. government needs to step up preparations and planning to respond to a future war across the Taiwan Strait, according to a report by a congressional China commission.

The report from the bipartisan panel argues that China under President Xi Jinping this year has “adopted a significantly more aggressive stance toward Taiwan, ramping up displays of military force in addition to diplomatic and economic coercion.”

Beijing also is drawing lessons from Russia’s war in Ukraine, with an eye toward the forcible unification of Taiwan with the mainland.

“Russia’s war against Ukraine has galvanized the international community and heightened concerns over a potential Chinese invasion of Taiwan,” states the annual report of the U.S.-China Economic Security Review Commission made public Tuesday.

The commission called on Congress to create an executive branch panel to prepare economic sanctions that can be imposed on China in response to military action against the democratic-ruled island state. The congressionally chartered panel also wants Congress to require the Pentagon to produce a classified report on the U.S. military forces needed to resist a Chinese attack on Taiwan. DeSantis Breaks Silence on Trump’s Attacks

After cruising to victory in last Tuesday’s midterm election, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis answered questions this week, including on what has become something of an elephant in the Republican room — former President Donald Trump’s statements attacking DeSantis that drew the ire of many conservatives.

Asked what he thinks about Trump’s “special announcement” slated for 9:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday night and what his response to “some of the less than flattering comments” Trump made about the GOP governor — for whom Trump said he voted on Election Day — DeSantis broke his silence on Trump’s attacks, but took the high road.

“One of the things I’ve learned in this job is when you’re leading, when you’re getting things done, you take incoming fire,” DeSantis explained. “That’s just the nature of it. I roll out of bed in the morning, I’ve got corporate media outlets that have a spasm — just the fact that I’m getting up in the morning,” DeSantis said, choosing to not directly return the 45th president’s fire.

“I don’t think any governor got attacked more, particularly by corporate media, than me over my four-year term,” DeSantis noted. “And yet, I think what you learn is all that’s just noise. Really what matters is, are you leading? Are you getting in front of issues? Are you delivering results for people? And are you standing up for folks?” DeSantis continued. “If you do that, then none of that stuff matters.”

“That’s what we’ve done,” DeSantis said of his first term as governor of Florida. “We focused on results and leadership.” (Read more from “DeSantis Breaks Silence on Trump’s Attacks” HERE)
