U.S. Anti-Russian Posture Isn’t About “Security” or “Democracy,” but Promoting LGBT

[I]n 2013, Russia passed a law banning gay propaganda towards minors. This came on the heels of the 2012 arrest of members of Pussy Riot, a female performance art collective, for sacrilegious acts at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. Three members of the group were sentenced to two years in prison each, with two of them serving their full sentences . . .

The US response in the media to Pussy Riot and the anti-gay law was nothing short of hysterical, and coverage of Russia, a country that had previously been viewed largely with indifference by American elites, has never been the same. My impression is that the gay propaganda law may have gotten more coverage in the American press than any other event that happened in Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union.

In the 2012 election, when Romney called Russia “our greatest geopolitical foe,” Obama famously responded that the 1980s called and it wanted its foreign policy back. This was before the gay propaganda law. Although it’s hard to prove that this was the turning point, as someone who was studying international relations at the time on a university campus and who paid close attention to American politics, it felt as if some Rubicon had been crossed and any move towards friendlier relations was impossible. By 2015, even before the rise of Trump, Putin was not the leader of a country, but a Hollywood villain.

In 2014, we saw the overthrow of Yanukovych, the Russian seizure of Crimea, and the beginning of the war in Eastern Ukraine. While this was a big deal to foreign policy hawks, it did not capture the liberal imagination in the same way that the gay propaganda law did. Russiagate required years of demonization in order to take off, and beginning in 2016 Putin became not only a homophobe and anti-feminist, but the man who may ultimately end American democracy.

I think most people are going to be inherently skeptical of the idea that LGBT and identity politics more generally play such a large role in international affairs. Yet people have less trouble accepting the fact that largely symbolic culture war issues related to race, gender, and sexual orientation drive domestic politics. Foreign policy elites are from the same class that gave us the Great Awokening, and if your model of members of this class involves them being illogical and destructive fanatics on matters of identity (the correct model), you should assume that they take their attitudes with them when thinking about international affairs. Their assumptions, deepest convictions, and construction of reality shape the ways in which we discuss geopolitical issues, which most Americans have no firsthand experience with. . .

Russian opposition to LGBT triggers American elites more than anti-gay laws and practices elsewhere because Russia is a white nation that justifies its policies based on an appeal to Christian values. Unlike a country like Hungary, it actually matters for international politics. Remember, we’re talking about the same elite that can only get excited about random attacks on Asians if they can pretend it’s white people who are doing it, and can’t be bothered to care about black people shooting each other every day but will make excuses for those who burn cities down in response to a police officer shooting a criminal in the course of an arrest. Homophobic Muslims or Africans will never inspire all that much righteous fury in these people. The template of “white conservative Christians bad” is fundamental to their worldview, and this leads to not only hostility towards Putin, but also nations like Hungary and Poland, even if the latter are uneasily accepted as friends because they were grandfathered into NATO, the alliance that is of course aimed at Russia. Biden’s ATF Raids Amish Dairy Farmer, Seizes Firearm Stash

An Amish dairy farmer in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania recently became the target of President Joe Biden’s promised crackdown on “rogue gun dealers” — but he claims he’s nothing more than a gun collector and occasional salesman.

Two weeks ago, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives stormed Reuben King’s Leacock Township property, seizing an untold number of firearms as part of an ongoing investigation into the farmer’s alleged gun retail business.

“ATF agents, as part of an ongoing investigation, executed an enforcement operation at the Cattail Foundry and seized evidence,” on Jan. 12, ATF spokesperson Robert Cucinotta announced Monday, according to Lancaster Online.

So far, no arrests have been made, and no charges have been filed in the case, as the ATF stays mum about the details. But speculation is growing that the Department of Justice is closing in on an indictment against King for selling guns without a federal firearms license, Bearing Arms reported. Americans to Biden: Don’t Run U.S. Into Ukraine War

A recent Guardian report addressed the issue of American presidents and foreign wars, explaining a “rally around the flag” effect that appears to boost the standings of sitting presidents if they take certain foreign actions.

“Wars can be great for presidential popularity,” the report said, citing the conclusions of political scientist John Mueller who said that effect results when presidents take international action, involves the president directly, and is “specific, dramatic and sharply focused.”

It reported that a 2015 study showed the 2003 invasion of Iraq gave George W. Bush a surge in support. . .

The polling showed 84.8% of American voters think the U.S. should have limited involvement in the event Russia invades Ukraine.

It revealed 31.1% believe the U.S. should provide supplies and military weapons, 30.5% think the U.S. should provide only diplomatic area pressure, and 23.2% believe the U.S. should provide U.S. military advisers. (Read more from “Americans to Biden: Don’t Run U.S. Into Ukraine War” HERE)

One of the Left’s Favorite Countries Drops All COVID-19 Restrictions, Welcomes ‘Life We Knew Before’ (VIDEO)

Denmark is ending virtually all of its COVID-19 restrictions so the country can move back to life as normal.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Wednesday that beginning Feb. 1, Danes will be free to go to restaurants, museums, clubs and other indoor facilities without wearing face masks. After that date, the government will only recommend masks be worn in hospitals, health care facilities and care facilities for the elderly such as nursing homes.

Right now, masks are required to be worn on public transportation, inside restaurants and other indoor businesses like shops, as well as in health care facilities. But Frederiksen said it is time to move on to post-COVID life by bringing back pre-pandemic norms.

“We say goodbye to the restrictions and welcome the life we knew before,” she said. “As of Feb. 1, Denmark will be open.” (Read more from “One of the Left’s Favorite Countries Drops All COVID-19 Restrictions, Welcomes ‘Life We Knew Before'” HERE)

University Report Tries to Explain Away Barbaric Experiments With Aborted Babies

After news broke last spring that the University of Pittsburgh is using aborted babies for taxpayer-funded medical research, often in barbaric experiments, Pitt asked an independent firm to conduct an investigation into their researchers’ compliance with state and federal laws. The findings of that investigation were released last week, but the report arguably raises more questions than it answers.

Hyman, Phelps and McNamara (HPM), the D.C.-based law firm hired to conduct the “regulatory assessment,” said they found Pitt’s academic research with human fetal tissue to be “fully compliant with applicable laws.” But a close reading of the 40-page report shows that HPM intentionally limited the scope of their investigation, allowing investigators to turn a blind eye to some of the most damning allegations related to fetal tissue research. . .

HPM admits they did not investigate the two university clinics where university researchers source their aborted fetal tissue: the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, where more abortions are performed than in any other hospital in the state.

HPM reasoned they could only investigate activities for which Pitt has regulatory control, and that excludes UPMC because it is a private nonprofit that the university “has no role in managing or supervising.” This is a significant omission because some of the most atrocious allegations, including labor-induced, partial-birth abortions, occur at UPMC. Investigators instead focused on fetal tissue that is collected and distributed by the Pitt Biospecimen Core (PBC). What investigators failed to mention is that PBC laboratories are located inside UPMC hospitals, including one in the Magee-Womens Hospital.

HPM tried to justify the serious omission with a caveat that even though they cannot hold Pitt responsible for UPMC, they did evaluate “whether Pitt satisfied its independent duty to confirm compliance of specified activities related to fetal tissue undertaken by UPMC.” In the limited investigating they did do of UPMC, HPM found issues with incomplete forms at UPMC used for obtaining consent from pregnant women to use their babies’ organs for research. Those forms were included in the report and tell us a lot about how consent is obtained. (Read more from “University Report Tries to Explain Away Barbaric Experiments With Aborted Babies” HERE)

Woman Sick After Coming in Contact With Escaped Lab Monkeys

Questions are swirling after a woman became sick after coming in contact with an overturned truck of macaque monkeys on their way to a Florida lab.

Pennsylvania resident Michelle Fallon was driving directly behind a truck carrying 100 cynomolgus macaque monkeys last week when the vehicle was hit by a dump truck, throwing the pricey primate crates all over the highway, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Three macaques escaped, but all have since been captured and euthanized. The 97 remaining monkeys, which arrived in the United States from Mauritius, have been accounted for and transported to their destination.

Fallon said she got out of her car and helped the driver put the animals in their cages. She initially thought the animals were cats but quickly realized her mistake when she put her hand on the cage and a monkey hissed at her.

Fallon posted on Facebook that after coming in contact with one of the macaques, she got sick with a nasty cough and pink eye so severe she had to go to the emergency room at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Infectious disease doctors gave her the first of four rabies shots and antiviral drugs. Fallon posted she was monitoring for symptoms of rabies and monkey herpesvirus B but said her “symptoms are covid symptoms. Like seriously. A day from hell!” (Read more from “Woman Sick After Coming in Contact With Escaped Lab Monkeys” HERE)

Actress Comes Out Hard Against Vax Mandates: ‘This Is Not Safe. This Is Not Healthy’

Marvel’s Ant-Man star Evangeline Lilly has come out against vaccine mandates, saying “nobody should ever be forced to inject their body with anything, against their will.”

The star of ABC’s Lost revealed in an Instagram post that she attended the recent Washington, D.C. rally on Sunday where anti-mandate protestors marched from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial to voice their opposition to forced injections.

“I believe nobody should ever be forced to inject their body with anything, against their will,” she wrote. “This is not the way. This is not safe. This is not healthy. This is not love. I understand the world is in fear, but I don’t believe that answering fear with force will fix our problems.”

The Hobbit star added: “I was pro choice before COVID and I am still pro choice today.”

BLM’s Millions Unaccounted for After Group’s Leaders Quietly Jumped Ship

No one appears to have been in charge at Black Lives Matter for months. The address it lists on tax forms is wrong, and the charity’s two board members won’t say who controls its $60 million bankroll, a Washington Examiner investigation has found.

BLM’s shocking lack of transparency surrounding its finances and operations raises major legal and ethical red flags, multiple charity experts told the Washington Examiner.

“Like a giant ghost ship full of treasure drifting in the night with no captain, no discernible crew, and no clear direction,” CharityWatch Executive Director Laurie Styron said of BLM.

BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors appointed two activists to serve as the group’s senior directors following her resignation in May amid scrutiny over her personal finances. But both quietly announced in September that they never took the jobs due to disagreements with BLM. They told the Washington Examiner they don’t know who now leads the nation’s most influential social justice organization. Supreme Court Justice Announces He’s Stepping Down; Stunning “Claim”: ‘Brutal Sexual Assault’ by Next Pick for U.S. Supreme Court

By Daily Caller. Associate Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer will retire at the end of the Court’s current term, NBC News reported Wednesday.

His successor is expected to sit on the Court by the beginning of its next term in October, according to the outlet. Breyer, who is 83 years old, was appointed to the Court by President Bill Clinton in 1994. He is the longest-serving member of the Court’s liberal bloc and the second-longest serving current member after Associate Justice Clarence Thomas.

The White House declined to comment on the announcement, with White House press secretary Jen Psaki saying that she “ha[s] no additional details or information to share.” . . .

In recent months, left-wing activists have called on Breyer to announce a retirement plan. The group Demand Justice, which is made up of former Obama administration officials, has been at the forefront of the pressure campaign, even renting a billboard truck with the words “Breyer, Retire” emblazoned on the side. The group noted the 2020 death of liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was replaced by conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett, and expressed concern that Breyer would also be replaced by a conservative. Stunning “Claim”: ‘Brutal Sexual Assault’ by Next Pick for U.S. Supreme Court

By WND. With Justice Stephen Breyer stepping down from the U.S. Supreme Court, there’s suddenly plenty of speculation about what comes next, and the identity of his potential replacement.

Now, Roger Stone, a close associate of former President Donald Trump, has posted a stunning message on Gab.com. . .

“I’ve never shared this with anyone before, but when I was young, I was violated in a brutal sexual assault that I never reported.

“The perpetrator was whomever Biden nominates to the Supreme Court.”

His tongue-in-cheek remark is a poke at how the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh was handled, before he was confirmed to the high court. (Read more from “Stunning Claim: ‘Brutal Sexual Assault’ by Next Pick for U.S. Supreme Court” HERE)

Will Predictions That Biden Will Install Kamala on Supreme Court Prove True?

By WND. That Joe Biden might nominate his vice president, Kamala Harris, to the U.S. Supreme Court was making the rounds on news and other sites on Wednesday literally before newscasters finished their announcement that Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer was retiring.

It’s true that she does check the boxes that Biden imposed, as a candidate, when he said he would make sure a black woman was nominated first. . .

But the real reason may have nothing to do with her qualifications, but with the idea that Biden apparently has been looking for a way to remove her from the VP job for some time already. . .

Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said, “Politically speaking, if you are not happy with the vice president and you want her in a different role, there’s no greater role than the Supreme Court.”

CNN, weeks ago, suggested there was “internal discontent” inside Harris’ office at the White House and there was an “at-times rocky relationship with the Biden White House.” (Read more from “Will Predictions That Biden Will Install Kamala on Supreme Court Prove True?” HERE)

Dear Diary: CNN’s Acosta Says Virginia Under Youngkin ‘a Soviet-Style Police State’

CNN “Democracy in Peril” host Jim Acosta on Tuesday reacted to Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) setting up a tip line for parents to report the teaching of “inherently divisive” rhetoric such as Critical Race Theory.

Acosta noted that the GOP had recently been engaging in a culture war, which he warned “could be weakening our democracy.” He argued Youngkin went from “campaigning in a fleece vest” to running “a Soviet-style police state.” . . .

“You know, I seem to remember Glenn Youngkin campaigning in a fleece vest in Virginia. He was running as a different kind of Republican. I was told there was going to be a vest — not a Soviet-style police state across the Potomac from Washington,” he added.
