By Breitbart. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said his company is rebranding itself as Meta in an effort to encompass its virtual-reality vision for the future — what Zuckerberg calls the “metaverse.”

Skeptics point out that it also appears to be an attempt to change the subject from the Facebook Papers, a leaked document trove so dubbed by a consortium of news organizations that include The Associated Press. Many of these documents, first described by former Facebook employee-turned-whistleblower Frances Haugen, have revealed how Facebook ignored or downplayed internal warnings of the negative and often harmful consequences its algorithms wreaked across the world.

Facebook the app, along with Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, are here to stay; none will be changing their names. The company’s corporate structure also won’t change. But on Dec. 1, its shares will start trading under a new ticker symbol, “MVRS.”

“Facebook is the world’s social media platform and they are being accused of creating something that is harmful to people and society,” said marketing consultant Laura Ries. Facebook Changes Its Corporate Name to ‘Meta’ Amid Torrent of Scandals

By New York Post. . .The change comes as Facebook seeks to shake a torrent of scandals after whistleblower Frances Haugen leaked company research showing Instagram’s negative effect on teens’ mental health, Facebook’s struggles to stop human trafficking on its platform and the widespread sharing of false news about elections on its sites.

A defiant Zuckerberg — who has not publicly responded to calls to testify in Congress amid the scandals — indirectly addressed the issue during the event and accused critics of being stuck in the past.

“With all the scrutiny and public debate, some of you might be wondering why we’re doing this right now,” said Zuckerberg. “Some people will say that this isn’t a time to focus on the future, and I want to acknowledge that there are important issues to work on in the present. There always will be.

“For many people, I’m not sure there will be a good time to focus on the future,” Zuckerberg added in an apparently sarcastic jab.

Nevertheless, the new name quickly provoked jeers on social media, with many critics noting that the move looked like a desperate attempt to change the subject.

Public School Takes Elementary Students to Gay Bar

Wilton Manors Elementary School brought students to Rosie’s, a local gay bar, for a field trip, a school board member announced Wednesday.

Broward County School Board member Sarah Leonardi attended the field trip and commented, “I was SO honored to be invited to chaperone … the students and I had a fun walk over and learned a lot about our community!” She also mentioned that this is an annual trip hosted by the gay bar for children.

Photos from the event show 18 children who appear to be under the age of ten wearing masks and matching t-shirts outside Rosie’s.

Rosie’s menu items include “Naked Sweaty Lovin’,” “Beet Your Brains Out” “Rhoda Cowboy,” “Ivana Hooker” and “Young Ranch Hand,” according to its website. Study Finds Vaccinated People Easily Transmit Delta Variant

The Delta coronavirus variant can transmit easily from vaccinated people to their household contacts, a British study found on Thursday, although contacts were less likely to get infected if they were vaccinated themselves.

The Imperial College London study illustrates how the highly transmissible Delta variant can spread even in a vaccinated population.

The researchers underlined that did not weaken the argument for vaccination as the best way of reducing serious illness from COVID-19 and said booster shots were required.

They found infections in the vaccinated cleared more quickly, but the peak viral load remained similar to the unvaccinated.

“By carrying out repeated and frequent sampling from contacts of COVID-19 cases, we found that vaccinated people can contract and pass on infection within households, including to vaccinated household members,” Dr Anika Singanayagam, co-lead author of the study, said. Report: At Least 10 Afghan Refugees Found to Be Security Risks

Republican lawmakers are questioning the vetting process used to bring Afghans to the U.S., saying standard screening steps were bypassed during the chaotic evacuation effort that took place following Kabul’s fall two months ago.

An internal memo, drafted by Republican aides to the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee who visited U.S. military bases used to process Afghans domestically and overseas, said that certain standard steps for refugees, such as in-person interviews and document verification, were skipped or delayed. The memo, which was reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, was prepared ahead of a closed-door briefing from Biden administration officials for committee members, including Sen. Rob Portman (R., Ohio), the top Republican on the panel. . .

Ten evacuees who made it to the U.S. have been detained because they are national security risks, an administration official told lawmakers in the Tuesday briefing, according to a person familiar with the matter. It wasn’t clear how they were determined to be security risks. . .

Afghans who were flagged in the databases for possible links to terrorism or crime have been referred to the Federal Bureau of Investigation or other federal officials for interviews and checks to determine whether they pose a national security threat to the U.S. Those that failed to pass that extra layer of screening have been transferred to a temporary facility at Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo for additional scrutiny. Top General Warns U.S. About China’s Military Progress: ‘We Have to Do Something’

Four-star General John E. Hyten, the outgoing Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, warned this week that communist China’s military progression is “stunning” and that the U.S. must take immediate action to remain the world’s preeminent superpower.

Hyten made the remarks following China’s second hypersonic missile test, which reportedly caught U.S. intelligence officials off guard.

“Calling China a pacing threat is a useful term because the pace at which China is moving is stunning,” Hyten said on Thursday. “The pace they’re moving and the trajectory they’re on will surpass Russia and the United States if we don’t do something to change it. It will happen. So I think we have to do something.”

“It’s not just the United States but the United States and our allies because that’s the thing that really changes the game,” Hyten added. “If it’s the United States only, it’s going to be problematic in five years. But if it’s the United States and our allies, I think we can be good for a while.”

Joe Biden Is Reportedly Considering Paying Illegal Aliens $450K Each

President Joe Biden’s administration is considering a plan that would give border crossers, who were subjected to former President Donald Trump’s “Zero Tolerance” policy, about $450,000 each in a reparations-style payout.

Trump had instituted the Zero Tolerance policy at the United States-Mexico border in 2018 to reduce illegal immigration. The policy, as Breitbart News reported at the time, had been effective since at least before 2001.

As a result of the policy, adult border crossers were often put into separate holding facilities from the children they arrived with at the southern border. Since then, the border crossers who were subjected to the policy have sued the federal government.

The Biden administration, the Wall Street Journal reveals, is now weighing whether to provide those border crossers with $450,000 each as part of a payout in the lawsuits filed.

In some instances, a migrant family could secure about $1 million from such a payout, more than some of the American families received following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Andrew Cuomo Charged With Misdemeanor

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has been charged with a misdemeanor sex crime for forcible touching.

The Democrat was charged in Albany City Court Thursday, a spokesperson for New York State Court has confirmed to Fox News.

“A Misdemeanor Complaint against former Governor Andrew Cuomo has been filed in Albany City Court” the spokesperson said in a statement. “As this is a sex crime, a redacted complaint will be available shortly.”

County Has Highest COVID Case Rate In Country, Despite Nearly 100% Vaccination Rate

With 99.7% of adults in the Irish county of Waterford having received the COVID shots, they have the highest per-capita case rate of COVID anywhere in the country. Are they now going to suggest it’s the fault of the 0.3%?!

The Irish Times reported last week that with one Waterford city district at a 14-day incidence rate of 1,486 cases per 100,000 of the population, Waterford has the highest incidence rate of anywhere in Ireland. The COVID case rate is three times the national average, which in itself has been increasing steadily in recent weeks, despite 91% of Irish adults being vaccinated. However, Waterford takes the cake.

“Waterford has the highest rate of vaccination in the country with 99.7 per cent of adults over the age of 18 (as registered in the last census) fully vaccinated,” reports the Irish Times. “The county has gone from having one of the lowest rates of Covid-19 infection in Ireland to one of the highest.”

How can a vaccine that is this leaky, and apparently even counterproductive, continue to be pushed on a population even if it had zero side effects? How many more examples of this do we need to see?

And no, it’s not just mild cases. Ireland has the highest number of people in the hospital with COVID since March, and the trajectory is getting worse. This is with the highest vaccination rate in the EU – over 90% of those over 16 – and it’s particularly bad in the most vaccinated county of Ireland. The state’s chief medical officer, Dr. Tony Holohan, said he was “increasingly worried about the rising incidence of the disease nationwide” and that the primary focus “must be to protect the most vulnerable from Covid-19.” He then proceeded to blame the unvaccinated! Gee, if just 9% of those over 16 in the country are unvaccinated and just 0.3% in the worst area, what percentage of the vulnerable do you think are not vaccinated?! Study: This $4 Generic Antidepressant Significantly Reduces COVID-19 Hospitalizations

An inexpensive, generic antidepressant has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of severe COVID-19 in clinical trials.

Fluvoxamine — a readily available pill used to treat depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder — dramatically reduces serious illness and death from COVID-19 when prescribed early, according to a study published in the journal Lancet Global Health.

There were 1,497 COVID-positive patients in Brazil involved in the study; 741 patients were given fluvoxamine and 756 were given a placebo. The study — which was performed from Jan. 20 until Aug. 5 — found that patients who received fluvoxamine saw their hospitalizations or long-term medical observation rates decrease by nearly one-third.

Report: North Korea to Face Food Shortage Through 2025

North Korea’s totalitarian government has told its people to tighten their belts — literally — for at least another three-plus years before Pyongyang plans on reopening the country’s land border with China, Radio Free Asia reported this week.

“Two weeks ago, they told the neighborhood watch unit meeting that our food emergency would continue until 2025,” a resident of the city of Sinuiju, near the China border, was quoted as telling the outlet. “Authorities emphasized that the possibility of reopening customs between North Korea and China before 2025 was very slim.”

North Korean authorities closed the border with China, its largest trading partner, in January of last year in a bid to stop the spread of COVID-19. The move exacerbated inflation and food shortages caused in recent years by ongoing US-led sanctions as well as typhoon-induced flooding.

“Some of the residents are saying that the situation right now is so serious they don’t know if they can even survive the coming winter,” the Sinuiju resident went on. “They say that telling us to endure hardship until 2025 is the same as telling us to starve to death.” (Read more from “Report: North Korea to Face Food Shortage Through 2025” HERE)
