Dems Speak Up Over Harsh Treatment of Jan 6 Protesters, GOP Silent

Republicans are being criticized for staying silent about the reportedly harsh treatment of people arrested and detained in connection with the Jan. 6 Capitol riot while some leading Democrats speak out about it.

A majority of the more than 300 people arrested in the wake of the riot have since been released as they await their trials, Politico reported earlier this week. But dozens more, who have been deemed flight risks or risks to obstructing justice, are still being held without bond in a Washington, D.C., detention facility with a historically bad reputation for abusing inmates, some of whom have already reported, via their attorneys, being mistreated and beaten by guards.

In addition, those detainees are held in isolation for 23 hours a day, ostensibly to protect them and other inmates, as they wait for trial dates — treatment that Sens. Elizabeth Warran (D-Mass.) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), both opponents of solitary confinement, are calling abusive, Politico notes. . .

“Solitary confinement is a form of punishment that is cruel and psychologically damaging,” Warren told the outlet. “And we’re talking about people who haven’t been convicted of anything yet.”

GOP Lawmaker Asks FBI to Reassess Decision Concluding 2017 Baseball Shooting Was ‘Suicide by Cop’

Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) is asking the FBI to reassess their decision to classify the June 14, 2017 baseball field shooting outside of Washington as “suicide by cop” rather than a domestic terrorism case.

Wenstrup was present when the Republican legislators were targeted by left-wing extremist James Hodgkinson, who fired over 100 rounds at them and other staff, severely injuring House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), who was hit on the hip and recovered after many surgeries. . .

The shooter is known to have posted angry messages about then-president Donald Trump and other Republicans. He was wounded during gunfire exchange with Capitol Police and later died at the scene.

“According to FBI Special Agents, the attacker’s motivation was ‘suicide by cop,’” Wenstrup wrote.

“This conclusion defies logic and contradicts the publicly known facts about the perpetrator and the attack. The shooter had an extensive social media record highlighting his hatred of President Trump and Republicans. He had a list of names—including Republican Members of Congress—in his possession. Before carrying out his attack, he asked if the Members at the baseball field were Republicans or Democrats,” Wenstrup wrote. COVID Vaccine Examined For Link to Heart Inflammation Cases

Israel’s Health Ministry said on Sunday it is examining a small number of cases of heart inflammation in people who had received Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, though it has not yet drawn any conclusions.

Pfizer said it has not observed a higher rate of the condition than would normally be expected in the general population.

Israel’s pandemic response coordinator, Nachman Ash, said that a preliminary study showed “tens of incidents” of myocarditis occurring among more than 5 million vaccinated people, primarily after the second dose. . .

Most of the cases were reported among people up to age 30.

Mother Was Allegedly Fired After Refusing COVID Vaccine

An Arkansas woman says she was fired from her job at a marijuana dispensary after she declined to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

“They actually did it — they really fired me — I didn’t think it was really going to happen,” Samantha Wise told KARK after she was terminated from her job at the Harvest Cannabis Dispensary Conway, Arkansas. “I am always that 1 out of every 10 or so that has a bad reaction. I am that one — so, I would just rather not.”

The mother of five said that her past history with medications contributed to her reluctance to be vaccinated against COVID-19. After she told her employer that she wouldn’t be taking the vaccine, she was asked to return her badge and key.

All employees at the store are required to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. In Arkansas, only medical marijuana is legal, and the store’s “high risk” clientele contributed to the decision to make the vaccine mandatory. . .

While the dispensary wouldn’t provide the details of Wise’s termination, it said that there were “a number of factors” that went into her firing. Harvest said it did implement a policy that allowed employees who declined to be vaccinated on medical or religious grounds to remain employed, but the company did not explain why Wise wasn’t accommodated under this exemption. Biden’s 100 Day Approval the Third-Lowest Since 1945

Joe Biden’s approval rating sits at 52% as he nears his 100th day in office this week, a historically low number for a new president.

The only two presidents in the last seven decades who earned a lower 100 Day approval rating than Biden are Donald Trump, who earned 42%, and Gerald Ford, who earned 48% after he took over for Richard Nixon. Every other president since 1945 has broken the 50% mark or far surpassed it. . .

According to a Washington Post-ABC News poll taken April 18-21, just over half of American adults approve of Biden’s job as president overall so far. Of those who approve, 34% say they strongly approve and 18% say they somewhat approve.

DOJ Post Nominee Pushed Essay Comparing Cops to KKK

President Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the Justice Department’s civil rights division circulated an essay from self-proclaimed Marxist poet Amiri Baraka defending cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal and referring to police officers as members of the Ku Klux Klan, according an email from her days at Columbia University.

Kristen Clarke forwarded the Baraka essay in an email on June 25, 1999, to her mentor, the late historian Manning Marable.

She suggested that the essay, entitled “Mumia, ‘Lynch Law’ & Imperialism” be placed in a magazine Marable edited and used for a panel on the death penalty.

“Here is a piece for the magazine & the panel 3 Race and The Death Penalty,” Clarke wrote to Marable.

The email was obtained by the American Accountability Foundation, a conservative advocacy group founded by two former Republican Senate staffers. The foundation, which has published other materials about Clarke on its website, BidenNoms.com, says that the email is from Marable’s academic archives at Columbia University.

Year Later: Media Still Making This False Claim About Trump

It’s a claim along with the likes of neo-Nazis are “fine people” that has become a symbol for the left of Donald Trump’s diabolical character — the assertion one year ago that the then-president suggested Americans could inject bleach in their bodies to kill the COVID-19 virus.

But Trump didn’t say that, as PJ Media’s Matt Margolis documents, just as never said neo-Nazis and white supremacists are “fine people.” . . .

The bleach claim originated April 23, 2020, during the White House Coronavirus Task Force briefing in a discussion about possible COVID-19 treatments, including UV light.

Trump said: “And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that. So, that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with. But it sounds — it sounds interesting to me.” . . .

Elon Musk Says ‘Bunch of People Will Probably Die’ During Mars Mission

Elon Musk has admitted that “a bunch of people will probably die” in the race to get to Mars.

The SpaceX pioneer made his blunt prediction as he laughed at how his planned Mars mission was being seen as “some escape hatch for rich people.”

“You might die, it’s going to be uncomfortable and probably won’t have good food,” Musk told Peter Diamandis, the founder and chairman of the X Prize Foundation for scientific discovery.

Advertisements for the journey should note how it will be an “arduous and dangerous journey where you may not come back alive,” Musk said with a chuckle.

Cartels Offering American Teenagers Money to Smuggle Illegal Aliens

Mexican drug cartels and cartel-associated smuggling networks are now bringing so many illegal immigrants into the United States that they’re putting out ads on TikTok, targeting American teenagers in South Texas with offers of thousands in cash to ferry migrants past U.S. checkpoints just north of the border.

This week Fox News reported on the scheme, including screenshots of TikTok ads offering as much as $3,500 cash for a single trip. One ad reads, “Got another 6 left, already crossed. Lemme know ASAP for that easy cash,” according to Fox News, which also reported that teenagers are in some cases borrowing their parents’ SUVs to smuggle migrants, often without the parents knowing.

The migrants in question are almost certainly single adults trying to evade Border Patrol and slip into the United States undetected. Unlike unaccompanied minors and families, who typically turn themselves in to U.S. authorities after crossing the Rio Grande in hopes of a quick release, adult migrants are likely to be immediately expelled and thus often try to avoid detection.

For all the media coverage that migrant minors and families have gotten in recent months, single adults have made up a far greater share of illegal immigrants coming across the southwest border this fiscal year. Since October 2020, Border Patrol has encountered more than 400,000 single adults crossing the border illegally, compared to approximately 140,000 minors and families.
