Texans Now Getting Hit With Massive Electric Bills; Highest Reported So Far Is $17,000

By The Blaze. The lights are back on for most all Texans after a disastrous week where millions saw extended power outages when the state’s power grid failed to keep up with brutal winter storms.

But now a new crisis has hit for many residents: massive electric bills that some say they cannot possibly pay. The highest reported so far for one residential customer is at $17,000 — and that’s just for the month to date as of yesterday. . .

Reporter Jason Wheeler of KHOU-TV has been covering the problem facing Texans who have variable or indexed (market rate) payment plans for paying their bills. Those types of bills fluctuate, whereas the plans selected by most folks are fixed.

Wheeler pointed out that just over the past few days, the wholesale price of one megawatt of power went from around $50 to $9,000, leading to retail customers with non-fixed plans receiving bills far beyond their budgets. . .

The highest was reported by Ty Williams, who showed Wheeler screenshots of his three electric meters totaling more than $17,000 between his home, guest house, and office for the current billing period on the meters thus far. He said the total for all three was only $660 last month. (Read more from “Texans Now Getting Hit With Massive Electric Bills; Highest Reported So Far Is $17,000” HERE)

Some Texans Are Seeing Electric Bills as High as $17K After the Winter Storm

By KHOU 11. The Texas power outage has become the Texas power outrage. Electricity supply and demand in Texas has really stabilized now. But when it was grossly out of whack over the past several days, the cost of power in the wholesale market went crazy. It went from about $50 per Megawatt to $9,000. That didn’t affect retail many customers because they were on a fixed-rate plan. . .

But if you were on a variable or indexed plan, your rate — and therefore, your electric bill — may have skyrocketed. One customer messaged us:

“Mine is over $1,000…not sure how…700 square foot apt I have been keeping at 60 degrees.”

Another couple tweeted at us:

“Using as little as possible 1300 sq. ft. house and this is my bill. How is this fair. I only paid $1200 for the whole 2020.” (Read more from “Some Texans Are Seeing Electric Bills as High as $17K After the Winter Storm” HERE)

Voters Now Believe Joe Biden Is a ‘Puppet’ of the Far-Left

For much of the 2020 presidential election campaign, many critics of Joe Biden charged he was catering to the extremists in the Democratic Party.

They warned that in his effort to attract votes he would advocate policies that were not in alignment with mainstream America.

The Sun reported Biden was being described in the political world as a “puppet of Nancy Pelosi and ‘far-left Democrats.'”

In a recent interview with Paul Bedard’s “Washington Secrets” column, Donald Trump Jr. said many Biden voters now “realize that they have been played,” that he’s “not the moderate nice guy that they made him out to be.”

“He’s a puppet of the radical Left, and he’s their dream guy because they’ll sign whatever they put in front of them, and he doesn’t know the difference.” (Read more from “Voters Now Believe Joe Biden Is a ‘Puppet’ of the Far-Left” HERE)

Republican Lawmaker Reacts After Dems Throw Fit Over Guns in Her Home

Reacting to Democrats who had a fit over the fact she has guns in her home, a Colorado congresswoman says her colleagues across the aisle are “too busy mocking the Constitution” to get their work done.

The reaction from U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., came after a virtual hearing that disintegrated into a diatribe against the Second Amendment, which, Boebert pointed out, is part of the Constitution that Democrats swore an oath to uphold.

“Rather than having a productive debate about policy … Democrats were too busy mocking the Constitution and disrespecting the everyday Americans that I was elected to represent,” she said in an interview with Fox News’ Mike Emanuel.

“This was my first committee hearing, and the chairman couldn’t stop attacking, degrading, and insulting committee members,” she said. “I am busy fighting against the left’s real fetish for power and stripping Americans of their constitutional rights.”

In the hearing, when Boebert was on screen from her home in Colorado, viewers could see several guns on shelves in the background. (Read more from “Republican Lawmaker Reacts After Dems Throw Fit Over Guns in Her Home” HERE)

Where’s Joe? Biden MIA As Texas Freezes

By Breitbart. The White House called a lid for Joe Biden on Thursday, after an inch of snow and sleet fell in Washington, DC.

Calling a “lid” informs reporters the president will not appear in public or travel anywhere for the rest of the day. . .

Biden still has yet to publicly voice his concerns for Americans suffering in Texas, even though his predecessor former President Barack Obama voiced sympathy on Twitter for those affected by the storms.

Psaki told reporters during her phone briefing with Biden’s Homeland Security adviser Liz Sherwood-Randall that the White House and the federal government would continue working behind the scenes to get more aid to Texans. (Read more from “Where’s Joe? Biden MIA As Texas Freezes” HERE)

Texas Water Shortage Adds to Power Crisis as New Winter Storm Moves in

By NBC News. As large parts of Texas woke up Thursday to another day of a power crisis amid extreme winter weather, issues with water systems added to the misery for much of the state’s population.

Scores of Texans were under notice to boil tap water before drinking it after days of record low temperatures damaged infrastructure, caused blackouts and froze water pipes.

Millions across the U.S. were left without electricity or heat in the aftermath of the deadly winter storm as utility crews rushed to restore power before another blast of snow and ice this week.

Another major winter storm is expected to track from the Lower Mississippi Valley into the mid-Atlantic and Northeast through Friday, the National Weather Service said, bringing more heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain to further complicate recovery efforts.

Travel remains paralyzed across much of the United States, with roadways treacherous and thousands of flights canceled. Many school systems also delayed or canceled face-to-face classes. (Read more from “Texas Water Shortage Adds to Power Crisis as New Winter Storm Moves in” HERE)

U.K. Education Secretary: Prioritizing ‘Emotional Safety’ Over Free Speech Is ‘Dangerous’

In a report on free speech in higher education, the U.K. Secretary of State for Education decried the chilling effects of “cancel culture” on free speech.

At the beginning of a free speech report presented to Parliament, Education Secretary Gavin Williamson penned a letter dubbing the current culture of “emotional safety” to be counterproductive. “There are some in our society who prioritize ‘emotional safety’ over free speech, or who equate speech with violence. This is both misguided and dangerous,” Williamson said.

The report cites a study from King’s College in London that found that a quarter of students see violence as an acceptable response to speech they dislike. The same study found that 59 percent of “Conservative-supporting” students said that they were reluctant to share their views on campus.

Williamson claims that British society has turned a “blind eye” to the “creeping culture of censorship.” “A culture has been allowed to develop in which it is seen as acceptable, even virtuous, for an academic to sign an open letter that calls for another to be dismissed or defunded,” he wrote.

The report breaks down new laws that the education department believes will champion a newfound culture of free speech. The laws will provide a new legal avenue for those who have faced retribution for their speech, will widen and enhance academic freedom protections, and will require universities to set high standards for free speech codes. WATCH: Democratic Assemblyman Details Threatening Phone Call From Andrew Cuomo

Democratic New York Assemblyman Ron Kim gave details Thursday about the threatening phone call he said he received from the governor.

Kim told MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough that Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo called him at home, demanding that he issue a new — false — statement about a meeting he attended with six other lawmakers. During that meeting, Kim said that Cuomo aide Melissa DeRosa conceded that the administration had hidden the real nursing home coronavirus numbers.

Kim said that Cuomo called him while he was at home with his family, demanding that he issue a statement contradicting what he had seen in that meeting.

“For 10 minutes he berated me. He yelled at me. He told me that my career would be over,” Kim said, adding that Cuomo gave him only until that night to issue a new statement. “He has been biting his tongue for months against me. And I had tonight — not tomorrow, tonight — to issue a new statement essentially asking me to lie. I heard and saw a crime the other day. And he’s asking me [to say] that I did not see that crime.”

Biden Allies to Launch ‘Dark Money’ Group With White House Blessing

President Biden could get a boost next month in the push to build support for his administration’s policy agenda as allies and campaign alumni prepare to launch an outside ‘dark money’ nonprofit organization with the White House’s blessing.

The organization, known as “Building Back Together,” will run television advertisements advocating for the president’s legislative priorities while working with other Biden-aligned groups, according to reports.

The president and his top aides have been briefed on the strategy, which top campaign aides and close allies will oversee.

“This is not to replicate,” White House senior adviser and longtime Biden confidante Anita Dunn told the Wall Street Journal, noting that the group will work in concert with others outside the administration. “It is not to duplicate.”

The organization will be registered as a 501(c)(4), meaning it can lobby, organize “grassroots” campaigns, and spend unlimited amounts of money to influence policy without disclosing donors. (Read more from “Biden Allies to Launch ‘Dark Money’ Group With White House Blessing” HERE)

Bill Gates Behind ‘Anti-Racist’ Math Push

A radical new push to purge math curricula of allegedly racist practices like showing your work and finding the correct answer is bankrolled by one of the nation’s most prominent nonprofits: the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Gates Foundation is the only donor mentioned on the homepage of A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction, a group of 25 education organizations whose curriculum states that asking students to show their work and find the right answer is an inherently racist practice.

Over the past decade, the Gates Foundation has given upward of $140 million to some of the groups behind Pathway, whose antiracist resources are the basis for a new teacher training course offered by the Oregon Department of Education.

The Education Trust, a California-based group that promoted the September release of Pathway’s antiracist “toolkit,” has received $86 million from the Gates Foundation, including a $3.6 million grant awarded in June.

Teach Plus, another group dedicated to creating an antiracist culture in K-12 schools, has received more than $27 million from the Gates Foundation. The group’s board members include former Democratic congressman George Miller and Obama-era secretary of education John King Jr.—who is also the president of The Education Trust. Rush Limbaugh Remembered as ‘The Indispensable Man’

Rush Limbaugh was remembered Wednesday as an “indispensable” leader of the conservative movement, a “happy warrior” who singlehandedly resurrected AM radio as he explained America and its reason for existence in a way no one else could, shaping a generation of political and cultural thought along with countless individual lives.

His wife, Kathryn Adams Limbaugh, announced on his radio show his death Wednesday morning at the age of 70 at his home in Palm Beach, Florida. . .

Mark Steyn, who became Limbaugh’s top guest host in recent years, described him as “a giant of American broadcasting, a uniquely talented performer, and a hugely generous man to whom I owe almost everything.”

Steyn titled his tribute “The Indispensable Man,” noting he’s “well aware of the ironies of the headline.”

“My father liked to caution me with the old saw that the graveyard is full of indispensable men,” Steyn wrote. “But, as the conventional bias of the legacy media yielded to something far more severe from the woke billionaires of Social Media, Rush remained the Big Voice on the Right, the largest obstacle to the complete marginalization of conservative ideas in our culture. All those of us who labored in his shadows owe it to him to continue the fight.” (Read more from “Rush Limbaugh Remembered as ‘The Indispensable Man'” HERE)

NYC Waitress Delayed COVID Vaccine Over Fertility Concerns and Got Fired for It

A New York City waitress was fired after she expressed hesitation about taking the COVID-19 vaccine without knowing the effects it might have on women who are trying to get pregnant.

According to a report from the New York Post, management at Brooklyn restaurant Red Hook Tavern dismissed 34-year-old Bonnie Jacobson after she refused to get the vaccine “immediately” under her boss’s mandatory orders because she wanted to see more research about its compatibility with fertility. . .

Jacobson added that while she “fully supports” people getting vaccinated, she chose “not to get the vaccine because there just isn’t enough data or research at this point on its effects on fertility.”

Despite the restaurant’s policy providing vaccine exemptions to people whose “personal health or disability prohibits you from obtaining this vaccination,” Jacobson was still booted to the curb after working a 13-hour shift, in a “shocking” and “hurtful” decision by her employers, considering her commitment to working throughout the pandemic.

“I was expecting to be met by the same flexibility and compassion,” she said. (Read more from “NYC Waitress Delayed COVID Vaccine Over Fertility Concerns and Got Fired for It” HERE)
