Pope Francis Calls for ‘All out Battle’ Against Sex Abuse but Completely Disappoints Victims

Pope Francis spoke Sunday at the conclusion of a four-day Vatican summit addressing the sexual abuse of minors in light of recent scandals in the Church. The Church has been grappling with the Pennsylvania grand jury report which uncovered the abuse of thousands of minors by 300 priests in addition to revelations of abuse perpetrated by prominent Church leaders, such as former D.C. Cardinal Theodore McCarrick.

“I make a heartfelt appeal for an all-out battle against the abuse of minors both sexually and in other areas, on the part of all authorities and individuals,” the pope said, “for we are dealing with abominable crimes that must be erased from the face of the earth: this is demanded by all the many victims hidden in families and in the various settings of our societies.” . . .

Summit moderator and former Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi later said that the Vatican will soon release a child protection policy and guidelines for preventing sexual abuse of minors for Vatican City State and a handbook for bishops to better comprehend their duties in these matters.

The address by Pope Francis met with criticism from some survivors and the media, given his unwillingness to address allegations of his own cover-up in the case of former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick.

The summit follows the laicization, or dismissal from the priesthood, of McCarrick after a Church investigation deemed sexual assault allegations against him were credible. The allegations included that he abused a minor during the sacrament of confession and sexually abused seminarians. Virginia Lt. Gov. Fairfax Compares Himself to Lynching Victims Due to Sexual Assault Allegations Against Him

Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax (D) made a speech Sunday in which he compared himself to a victim of lynching due to the sexual assault allegations he was facing, according to the Associated Press.

“I’ve heard much about anti-lynching on the floor of this very Senate, where people were not given any due process whatsoever, and we rue that,” Fairfax said at the close of the legislative session for the state Senate.

“And we talk about hundreds, at least 100 terror lynchings that have happened in the Commonwealth of Virginia under those very same auspices,” he continued. “And yet we stand here in a rush to judgment with nothing but accusations and no facts and we decide that we are willing to do the same thing.” . . .

“That is the worst, most disgusting type of rhetoric he could have invoked,” Republican House Majority Leader Del. Todd Gilbert said of Fairfax’s remarks Sunday. “It’s entirely appropriate for him to talk about due process and we would intend to offer him every ounce of it, and he’s welcome to take advantage of that anytime he would like.”

The state’s two other top Democrats, Virginia Gov. Judge Gives Ruling on Male-Only Military Draft

A federal court judge in Texas has struck a blow for “feminism,” ruling Friday that a men-only draft is unconstitutional and represents an instance of “gender-based discrimination” under the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the judge “sided with a San Diego men’s advocacy group that challenged the government’s practice of having only men sign up for the draft,” though the judge “stopped short of ordering the Selective Service System to register women for military service.”

Two men in Texas, who were then of age to register for the Selective Service System, filed suit against the government over the draft back in 2013, claiming that it was unfair to discriminate against women in the draft, particularly given that women now serve in front-line combat roles in the military and are competing with men for some of the military’s most difficult roles. . .

According to the Supreme Court in the Obergfell case legalizing gay marriage across the country, the judge noted, the government has an obligation to make decisions on issues of gender equality quickly, and must determine immediately whether such discrimination serves “an important governmental interest today.”

The judge believes the time has come to rectify the problem, justifying his decision to upend 1980s guarantees exempting women from the Selective Service with a 2015 Defense Department order lifting all gender-based restrictions on military service and combat roles, noting that the DOJ’s intent with the order was clearly to eliminate all gender-based restrictions in the military across the board, USA Today reports. Mueller’s Final Manafort Filings Are Scant on Russia Details, Never Mention ‘Trump’ or ‘Collusion’

. . .Mueller and his team made their final required filing in Manafort’s case late Friday, submitting a “government sentencing memorandum” to the United States District Court in Washington, D.C., justifying their request for a harsh, 17-year prison sentence against Manafort.

In it, the government argues that Manafort “chose repeatedly and knowingly to violate the law— whether the laws proscribed garden-variety crimes such as tax fraud, money laundering, obstruction of justice, and bank fraud, or more esoteric laws that he nevertheless was intimately familiar with, such as the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA),” both before and after he was under scrutiny by the Special Counsel.

Manafort’s portfolio of crimes include incidents going back more than a decade to 2005, to when Manafort was a lobbying the federal government on issues involving Russia and Ukraine. They run all the way up to last year, when Manafort was discovered to have engaged in witness tampering, even after he was indicted on tax fraud charges.

But what the government sentencing document — and Manafort’s apparent list of transgressions — doesn’t include is evidence of actual collusion with Russia during the course of the Trump for President campaign, the actual focus of Mueller’s investigation. Instead, the filing simply says that Manafort committed some of his crimes while under the “spotlight” of the campaign.

Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) channeled her inner Danielle Bregoli on Friday — the “cash me outside” girl from Dr. Phil — during a talk at a “Girls Who Code” event in New York City.

During the talk, the 29-year-old politician slammed critics who raise serious concerns about her “Green New Deal,” saying that people are just being critical over “little minute thing[s].”

“Like I just introduced the Green New Deal two weeks ago, and it’s creating all of this conversation. Why?” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Because no one else has even tried. Because no one else has even tried.”

“So people are like, ‘Oh it’s unrealistic. Oh it’s vague. Oh it doesn’t address this little minute thing,'” Ocasio-Cortez continued. “And I’m like, ‘You try. You do it. Cuz you’re not. Cuz you’re not. So, until you do it, I’m the boss.’ How bout that?”

Mother Accused of Making up 5-Year-Old’s Illness to Collect Disability Checks

By Breitbart. A Georgia mother was arrested Thursday for fabricating her five-year-old son’s illness to obtain disability checks, authorities said.

Investigators arrested Teresa Lynne Roth, 34, on Thursday after she spent nearly two years forcing her son to take 28 medications and medical treatments for nonexistent medical conditions, the Associated Press reported. . .

The case began in 2016, when doctors at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta were treating the child, who was three years old at the time, for several medical conditions which investigators say were fabricated.

Health care workers then alerted the Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS) and local authorities. DFCS removed the child from Roth’s home in October 2018, and authorities investigated Roth.

Mom Accused of Faking 5-Year-Old Son’s Illness for Disability Checks

By Boston 25 News. Investigators say Teresa Lynne Roth, 34, of Hall County, made her 5-year-old son take 28 unnecessary medications and undergo unnecessary medical treatments for nearly two years.

Roth’s son was on numerous medications, in a wheelchair and on a feeding tube as his parents drew disability checks on his behalf, according to police. Investigators say the boy was not sick and Roth’s actions jeopardized his well-being.

The case started back in 2016 when the boy was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Doctors were treating the then 3-year-old boy for several illnesses, that investigators now say were all made up. When health care officials became suspicious of the mother, they alerted the Department of Family and Children’s Services. Mom Who Killed Her 3 Children Used Fake Doctor’s Note to Get Them out of School

The Michigan mother who shot her three daughters in the woods last Monday before killing herself in her boyfriend’s driveway used a fake doctor’s appointment to get her three daughters out of school and alone with her, investigators revealed.

Aubrianne Moore, 28, showed up at the children’s school in the middle of the day to pick up her daughters Alaina Rau, 2, Cassidy Rodery, 6, and Kyrie Rodery, 8, Kent County Sheriff’s Office detectives said. They added that her “doctor’s note” that she gave to school administrators was fake.

The mother’s former social worker had warned about her behavior last September in a petition to the Newaygo County Probate Court. She wrote of the need to have Moore committed to a mental hospital.

“Aubrianne is keeping her kids home from school because the television told her there would be a school bus accident today,” the social worker wrote, as WYFF reported. “Aubrianne stays awake at night believing people will break into her home. Aubrianne is not eating believing food is being poisoned.” . . .

Investigators said Moore took her children to lunch before going to a wooded area behind a property that belonged to the children’s great grandparents. She then took the children one by one into the woods and shot them with a bolt-action hunting rifle before driving back to her boyfriend’s house and killing herself outside the vehicle, WOOD reported. Bernie Sanders Admits His Real Motives for Running…Again

By Townhall. Democrats seem to think that if they continue running for president that maybe, just maybe, one day their hope will become a reality. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and his campaign team are running a social media campaign focused on why the senator is running for president.

Clearly, this is a jab at President Donald Trump. Let’s face it. Trump has a different leadership style than most. He says what everyone is thinking but no one has the courage to say. While his comments can come off as brash, he’s saying what needs to be said. And Democrats clearly don’t like that. . .

Almost everyone can get behind lowering the student loan debt. But very few would agree that college and universities should be tuition free. Here’s why:

When you have to pay for your education, you value it. You take it seriously. You study. You get good grades. You earn your degree. When it’s paid for, you have less invested, both monetarily and emotionally. Why would you care if you flunked a semester or flunked out of school? You didn’t pay for it. No sweat off your back. There’s nothing tangible to look at.

Vintage Bernie Footage Shows Now-Presidential Candidate Praising Breadlines, Communist Nations

By Fox News. Presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., has never shied away from his embrace of a hard-left agenda, but the democratic socialist is facing renewed scrutiny over a catalog of comments he made in the 1980s praising the Soviet Union, offering advice to Nicaragua’s socialist government — and even saying breadlines in communist countries are a “good thing.”

Videos of those comments have recirculated online at a furious pace ever since Sanders jumped in the 2020 race Tuesday, this time as a putative front-runner rather than the underdog he played in 2016 against an establishment favorite. With his increased stature, and role in pulling the entire field to the left, has come a tougher look at his long record talking up socialist governments.

“It’s funny sometimes American journalists talk about how bad a country is because people are lining up for food. That’s a good thing,” he said in one vintage video unearthed by conservative activists. “In other countries, people don’t line up for food, rich people get the food and poor people starve to death.”

Trump Cuts Hundreds of Millions of Federal Funds From Planned Parenthood

President Donald Trump’s administration issued a rule Friday to restrict federal funding for groups such as Planned Parenthood that provide abortion referrals.

The rule, first proposed by the Department of Health and Human Services last year, would ban organizations from providing abortions if they are performed in the same facilities as other services financed by federal funds. It would also block funding for organizations that refer women to another provider for the procedure. . .

Supporters say the rule will ensure federal money isn’t used to pay for abortions, while opponents say it would restrict the ability of women to obtain an abortion and abortion counseling. . .

Trump, who has drawn support from conservative voters on the issue, has been raising his opposition to abortion more forcefully in recent weeks. Trump discussed abortion during his State of the Union address this month, calling on lawmakers to “build a culture that cherishes innocent life,” and he also made it part of a recent political rally.

“The Protect Life Rule does not cut family planning funding by a single dime, and instead directs tax dollars to entities that provide health care to women but do not perform abortions,” said Susan B. Watch: Dem Rep Argues With Children Over New Green Deal

Democratic California Sen. Dianne Feinstein got into a disagreement with elementary school-aged children who were trying to persuade her to vote in favor of the Green New Deal on Friday.

The interaction was filmed and posted on Twitter by the Sunrise Movement, an organization dedicated to “building an army of young people to make climate change an urgent priority across America, end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives on our politics, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and well-being of all people,” according to their website. . .

“You know what’s interesting about this group is, I’ve been doing this for 30 years. I know what I’m doing. You come in here, and you say it has to be my way or the highway. I don’t respond to that. I’ve gotten elected, I just ran. I was elected by almost a million-vote plurality. And I know what I’m doing. So you know, maybe people should listen a little bit,” the California congresswoman said.

Feinstein proceeded to ask a teen how old she was and then pointed out that the 16-year-old could not have voted for her, despite her claim otherwise. . .

The Green New Deal is a piece of draft legislation to create a committee to come up with a plan to completely shift the U.S. off of fossil fuels within 10 years.
