Here’s How Many More Active-Duty Troops Are Being Sent to the US-Mexico Border

In a statement released Sunday, the Pentagon revealed the number of active-duty service members that will be deploying to the U.S.-Mexico border in response to more migrant caravans making their way north.

“The Department of Defense will deploy approximately 3,750 additional U.S. forces to provide the additional support to CBP at the southwest border that Acting Secretary of Defense Shanahan approved Jan. 11,” the statement reads. “That support includes a mobile surveillance capability through the end of September 2019, as well as the emplacement of approximately 150 miles of concertina wire between ports of entry.”

The surge in troops will bring the total amount of active-duty members to around 4,350. (Read more from “Here’s How Many More Active-Duty Troops Are Being Sent to the US-Mexico Border” HERE)

McConnell Has a Stark Warning for Trump Over a National Emergency

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) last week warned President Donald Trump about the dangers of declaring a national emergency for the proposed border wall, The Washington Post reported. According to those familiar with the private conversation, McConnell said the declaration could divide the Republican Party and Congress would, more than likely, pass a resolution disapproving the emergency declaration. Should that declaration happen, as McConnell suggested, Trump could be forced to veto the declaration, which would put him at odds with his own party. . .

From WaPo:

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Trump and McConnell’s meeting. A McConnell spokesman declined to discuss the senator’s private conversations.

On the same day he met with the president, McConnell publicly voiced his opposition to a national emergency declaration as he encouraged the 17-member congressional committee to find another way out of the impasse. “I’m for whatever works, which means avoiding a shutdown and avoiding the president feeling he should declare a national emergency,” McConnell said during his weekly news conference in the Capitol.

McConnell’s top deputy, Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), told GOP senators at a private lunch that same day that if they had issues with the president’s declaring a national emergency, they should raise them with the White House, according to one of the Republicans and another person with knowledge of Thune’s comments, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe them.

Ilhan Omar Makes Stunning Admission About Her Anti-Semitism

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has come under fire for anti-Semitic comments in the past. During an interview with on “The Daily Show,” Omar explained how she never tried to be anti-Semitic but she understands how her comments could be deemed anti-Semitic. The most interesting aspect: Omar compares her being blind to her anti-Semitism to white people who don’t understand they have “white privilege.” . . .

1) If Omar was truly interested in learning how to change her ways and her thinking, she would come out and say, “I’m an anti-Semite but I don’t want to be. Can you please help me?” She would be upfront and honest about it. She wouldn’t be so wishy washy about where she stands. And she wouldn’t make an excuse for why she thinks the way she does.

2) Again, if she was truly interested in “overcoming her ways” she wouldn’t have taken so long to come to this realization. It wouldn’t have taken all of the public backlash she’s received.

KKK, Blackface Photo Emerges From Virginia Governor’s Yearbook – Dems Call For Resignation

By Daily Wire. A photo emerged on Friday that appears to show Virginia Democrat Governor Ralph Northam appearing in a photograph that shows someone dressed up in a KKK hood and in blackface.

“On Wednesday, in a shocking revelation about the nature of the pro-abortion Democratic Party, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, a supposed moderate, endorsed the notion that a woman should be able to let an infant, born alive, die on the table if she decided she did not want the child,” The Daily Wire reported.

Northam made the remarks during an interview with WTOP’s “Ask The Governor.” Northam stated:

This is why decisions such as this should be made by providers, physicians, and the mothers and fathers that are involved. When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of the mother, with the consent of physicians, more than one physician by the way, and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus which is non-viable. So in this particular example, if the mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, the infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if this is what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physician and the mother.

Leading Democrats call for Gov. Northam to resign over racist yearbook photo

By The Blaze. Top Democratic leaders are calling for the governor of Virginia to resign after a yearbook photo resurfaced showing him in a racist photo.

Among those calling for his resignation were presidential candidate Senator Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), who tweeted, “Leaders are called to a higher standard, and the stain of racism should have no place in the halls of government.”

Northam released a statement on Friday admitting that the photo was authentic, but he did not disclose whether he was the man dressed as a KKK member or the man wearing blackface.

“Earlier today, a website published a photograph of me from my 1984 medical school yearbook in a costume that is clearly racist and offensive,” he said in the statement.

“I am deeply sorry for the decision I made to appear as I did in this photo and for the hurt that decision caused then and now,” he added. (Read more from “Leading Democrats call for Gov. Northam to resign over racist yearbook photo” HERE)

Trump Hints at Big Announcement for the State of the Union on Immigration

By The Blaze. President Donald Trump continued feeding the weeks of speculation about whether he would declare a national emergency to begin construction on his promised border wall in order to circumvent congressional approval.

The president hinted Friday that he might make the controversial announcement during the State of the Union speech as he spoke to reporters about wall that had already been built on the border. . .

“They’re starting to learn,” he explained. “We’re spending a lot of money that we have on hand. It’s like in a business, we have money on hand, and we’re building, I would say we have a hundred and fifteen miles of wall, maybe a little bit more than that very shortly.” . . .

The president has been threatening to use the emergency order in order to prevent Democrats from blocking funding to his border wall since before the partial government shutdown began.

Trump Hints He’ll Discuss Border ‘Emergency’ at State of the Union

By Bloomberg. . .Trump once again called a congressional conference committee debating border security a “waste of time” and said his administration was proceeding with the construction of 115 miles of wall on the border with Mexico using money “on hand.” The conference committee is trying to agree to compromise legislation between Democrats, Republicans and the White House in order to avoid another government shutdown after Feb. 15.

Trump has repeatedly threatened to declare a national emergency on the border, which he says would allow him to transfer money from elsewhere in the government to build his promised border wall without congressional approval. House Democrats have threatened to sue over such a move. (Read more from “Trump Hints He’ll Discuss Border ‘Emergency’ at State of the Union” HERE)

Ann Coulter Berates Trump, Calls Him Lazy and Incompetent

When Donald Trump declared his presidential candidacy in 2015, one of his earliest high-profile supporters was right-wing author and media pundit Ann Coulter — who was described by Vanity Fair as “The High Priestess of Trumpism.” In 2016, Coulter even published a book of praise for Trump, one titled In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome!, in which she calls Trump “exactly what we needed.”

But in recent weeks, as Trump has failed to fulfill Coulter’s most cherished policy goal — and Trump’s own often-repeated 2016 campaign promise — a border wall between the United States and Mexico, Coulter has sharply turned on Trump. It started in December when Coulter slammed Trump on Twitter as “gutless,” and as the Inquisitr reported, Trump promptly unfollowed her on the social media platform.

But on Friday, Coulter, 57, raised the stakes in her personal war with Trump once again. She stated in a Yahoo! News interview that if he cannot succeed in building the border wall, Trump should face a Republican primary challenger in the 2020 presidential election. . .

Coulter lashed out at Trump in the Yahoo! News interview, hosted on the Yahoo! podcast Skullduggery, lambasting him as “lazy,” “incompetent,” and “a lunatic.” . . .

“We put this lunatic in the White House for one reason,” Coulter said in the interview, as quoted by Mediaite. “He doesn’t need to declare an emergency. I think Trump is gonna do that. I think he’s finally going to pull that pocket Constitution out of his lapel pocket and [say], ‘Oh my gosh, I’m the president. This is great.’” (Read more from “Ann Coulter Berates Trump, Calls Him Lazy and Incompetent” HERE)

Dem, Who Groped High School Friend Without Her Consent, Is Running for President

Well, mark this under not shocking. Those close to Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) said they were told by him that he was running for president. This was expected. The New Jersey Democrat planned to make it official during Black History Month, which starts today. This morning, as Leah noted, Booker formally announced that he was running. So, here’s to you, roamin’ hands Spartacus…I’ll get to that in a second. Yesterday, there was a lot of buzz that news of Bookers’ 2020 run would be coming soon (via The Hill):

Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) on Thursday began calling members of Congress informing them he is running for president and is quietly making overtures to members for support, three congressional sources told The Hill.

“Yes, he is reaching out to members for their support,” said a former Democratic aide with direct knowledge of Booker’s intentions. “He’s going to do it during Black History Month,” which starts on Friday.

Now, Bernie Sanders is looking to mount another White House run, but he’s being criticized for how his 2016 campaign operated concerning the human resources department. It was reportedly a den of sexism and sexual harassment. For Booker, well, he straight up admitted to groping a high school friend without her consent. He detailed it in his school’s newspaper.

This story was unearthed during the Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court confirmation hearings, where Democrats put on a great show of theatrics, smearing a qualified candidate for no other reason other than they didn’t like Kavanaugh or Trump for nominating him. It was a character assassination, but in the end, Kavanaugh persisted. (Read more from “Dem, Who Groped High School Friend Without Her Consent, Is Running for President” HERE)

One Shutdown Is Over but Another One Is in the Near Future

Honestly, I wish he had maintained the shutdown until Democrats felt the heat and started seeing the light. Of course, I am not one of the 800,000 furloughed federal employees. It’s not fun not to take in a paycheck, to wonder how you are going to pay the rent. I have worked without getting paid in the past. At first, I was tempted to quit right away. Fortunately, I held my peace and backpay came my way. I am sure well-meaning people who work for the Feds are glad that they can be fed and feed their families.

Still, the federal government employs too many people. A cursory list of the furloughed federal workers from US Senator Pat Leahy reveals 3,600 weather forecasters. I can watch Fake News to get the real scoop on the weather. How about laying off the 52,000 IRS employees and abolishing the federal income tax, too? They’ve been on everyone else’s phones and monitoring their emails. It’s time for them to get real jobs and stop living off our tax dollars (literally and figuratively).

Last week, libertarian conservative John Stossel showcased the power of the people, the individual American citizens who picked up their own trash (and other people’s). The TSA should be privatized ASAP. Better yet, why even have them, since some studies suggest that their invasive searches into our luggage—and our bodies—is not that effective. Israel has two walls, but they don’t have their own version of the TSA. Can we switch with them? . . .

The Democratic Party is not going to sign off on any compromise which will undermine their future. President Trump needs to get work and realize that there is no “Art of the Deal” to fix this Washington crisis. Abraham Lincoln didn’t make a deal with Democrats during the Civil War. They either had to accept the results of Election 1860 or leave the country. Besides, he had compromised during his first campaign, stating that he would not abolish slavery, but stop its spread to further territories.

President Trump has compromised enough. On security of our nation there can be no compromise. Lincoln broke the law by directly appropriating funds from the United States Treasury to ready the Union army. The tens of thousands of Latin American migrants marching toward and crowding around our Southern Border is a national emergency. President Trump, build that wall! Declare a national emergency, and spare no expense to secure the homeland! (Read more from “One Shutdown Is Over but Another One Is in the Near Future” HERE)

Delete Facebook: Study Reveals Facebook Users Are Happier After Leaving for a Month

You’ve no doubt heard anecdotal evidence of Facebook users feeling better after they’ve quit the social network, but how often does that help, really? A fair amount, according to researchers. A study from New York University and Stanford showed that Facebook users were happier, more satisfied with life and slightly less likely to feel anxious, depressed or lonely. They also used other social networks less, and used Facebook less when they came back. . .

This doesn’t necessarily mean that you should rush to delete your account — as TechCrunch observed, there are some factors to consider. This is self-reported data, so there’s a chance this doesn’t represent the subjects’ complete emotional landscape. It’s unclear what would happen if the break were longer, for that matter. Also, the researchers conducted this study ahead of the 2016 US presidential election, right when political tensions were high. It might have been more enjoyable to leave Facebook simply because it helped users avoid heated debates and rhetoric. Meet Washington’s Plastic Straw Cop

With all the municipal governments banning the use of plastic straws, somebody has to be the guy that enforces it. In our nation’s capital, that man is Zach Rybarczyk, an inspector for the D.C. Department of Energy and Environment, who goes from restaurant to restaurant issuing notices to any violators, reports the Anchorage Daily News.

Rybarczyk described his recent patrol of D.C.’s Union Station food court, where one violator, the Chinese restaurant Lotus Express, was issued a warning: Should the restaurant fail to eliminate their stash of plastic straws, they would be fined up to $800.

“At Lotus Express, the inspector, one of three dispatched by the city to check cafeterias, bars and restaurants, scribbled the restaurant’s name on the paper sleeve of the plastic straw and tucked it into his back pocket, along with two others from scofflaw restaurants,” reports the Anchorage Daily News. “He planned to later check whether they floated in water, another telltale sign of prohibited plastic.”

Julie Lawson, director of D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser’s Office of the Clean City, told the Anchorage Daily News that plastic straws will soon become as socially unacceptable as tobacco.

“It’s pretty absurd the amount of resources we put into creating plastic materials that we are using for five minutes to an hour, and then never again,” said Lawson. “Single-use plastics are taking the same cultural place as tobacco, where it’s socially unacceptable.” (Read more from “Meet Washington’s Plastic Straw Cop” HERE)
