Mexico’s New Leftist President Is Not a Threat, but the Collapse of Mexico Is

Andrés Manuel López Obrador won the Mexican presidency in a landslide election on Sunday. Obrador—or Amlo, as he’s commonly called—is a left-wing populist of the sort common to Latin America. A former mayor of Mexico City who twice ran for president and lost, in 2006 and 2012, the 64-year-old Obrador, who spent decades as a radical outsider in Mexican politics, now finds himself in the seat of power in a country that’s falling apart.

During his populist campaign, the silver-haired Obrador railed against the corruption of incumbent President Enrique Peña Nieto and his the conservative Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), which Obrador denounced, not without good reason, as a “mafia of power.” Indeed, under Peña Nieto Mexico’s economy has stagnated and crime has spiraled out of control. It’s not a stretch to say the intertwined crises of poverty, corruption, and crime have driven Mexicans in desperation to elect their first leftist president since 1934.

Conservative media in America have greeted the news with alarm. Writing here at The Federalist on Friday, Helen Raleigh warned that Obrador’s “radical ideas will spell trouble for both Mexico and the U.S.,” citing his affinity for socialist dictators like Venezuela’s Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro. His positive view of illegal immigration to the United States could precipitate “a surge of illegal crossings at our southern borders.”

Concerns about Obrador and the border are especially acute among conservatives. Victor Davis Hanson declared last week in National Review that Americans should be concerned about Obrador because he is “anti-American” and will position Mexico as an “aggressor” by promoting the notion that Mexicans have a “human right” to illegally enter the United States.

Beyond illegal immigration, conservatives fear Obrador’s socialist tendencies. The editorial board of the Wall Street Journal warned Friday that an Obrador victory would cause Mexico to “slide backward,” undoing the economic progress of recent decades and undermining Mexico’s rising middle class. Fears of a leftist Mexican president have been echoed by The Daily Caller, Fox News, and even Sen. John McCain. Uh-Oh: Here’s How Many People Say They’re Extremely Proud of Being American

According to Gallup, which has asked the question of Americans since 2003, the number of Americans who are “extremely proud” or “proud” of being American has hit a record low.

The poll says that 47 percent of people are “extremely proud” of being American. Another 25 percent say they are “very proud” of being American. . .

The decline is due at least in part to many Democrats changing their opinion about their pride in being American. Last year, 43 percent of Democrats said they were “extremely proud” of being American, but that percentage dropped by 11 points to 32 percent this year. . .

Whether Democrats’ recent dip in pride has something to do with President Donald Trump, it isn’t hurting his personal approval rating. A different Gallup poll shows that 45 percent of the public approves of the president, tying for the highest percentage of his term thus far.

Another poll showed that more than two thirds of Americans found the policy of family separation at the border “unacceptable.” Trump ended the policy soon after the poll was published. (Read more from “Here’s How Many People Say They’re Extremely Proud of Being American” HERE)

Pastor: Keep Killing Babies Because I Hate Trump

For the latest misadventures in “absolute NeverTrumpism corrupts every bit as much as absolute AlwaysTrumpism,” I give you Pastor Thabiti Anyabwile.

The headline of his piece in the Washington Post is “Overturning Roe v. Wade isn’t worth compromising with Trump, my fellow evangelicals.” He leads it off by imploring that “we are going to give an account to God for our complicit silence before the immoral policies and actions of the Trump administration.”

Already, the pastor’s point of view is plagued by an idolatrous level of concern for Trump, to the point of insisting that his fellow evangelicals snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on the issue of life. Which just so happens to be the pre-eminent moral concern of the Word of God, but other than that, no big thang.

Anyabwile is so blinded by his anti-Trump idolatry that he’s urging the very “complicit silence” he condemns when it comes to stopping America’s infanticide holocaust. Ironic, I know, but this is the age of self-refuting arguments and the death of self-awareness, after all.

This pastor is urging believers to explicitly disobey the Word of God when it says “rescue those being taken away to death and hold back those being led away to slaughter.” This pastor is urging believers to side with those whose “hands shed innocent blood,” which the Scriptures also say are among those things “the LORD hates.” And he’s doing so from a platform that frequently gives space for trolling God and His love, like its recent headline “why can’t we hate men” and last Christmas when it again questioned whether Jesus Christ ever existed.

On second thought, maybe this is the proper platform for Anyabwile’s idolatrous polemic, because whether he knows it or not, he’s trolling God, too. It’s just that the Washington Post is more honest about it.

In case you’re wondering why I’ve used the terms “idolatry” or “idolatrous” several times already, it’s because I’m trying to drive the point home this is idolatry. Whenever we permit anything other than God to determine for us what is right or wrong, we are practicing what the Bible calls idolatry, which is a fancy, stained-glass word meaning “worshipping or following after a false god.”

Anyabwile is saying not to explicitly do what God says is right here, because Trump. In other words, he is the NeverTrump version of heretical clowns like Paula White, peddler of the fake so-called prosperity gospel and a documented fraud, who has sadly found some renewed legitimacy through her ability to shamelessly shill for Trump.

I’m sure Anyabwile would agree with me about the likes of White, all the while missing the plank in his own eye. See, God doesn’t permit us not to do what’s right because it may cause us to align with and/or work alongside those we find questionable, repulsive, or offensive. Quite the contrary, God works through sinners all the time — because all of us are sinners.

Sure, plenty of Christians twist this teaching every election season when they compare their favorite misbehaving politicians favorably to King David, all the while conveniently leaving out details like David’s peccadilloes that caused the death of his child, a civil war in his kingdom, and persistent strife in his family. So, yes, God loved and used David. But no, David’s sins did not go unpunished, and often the consequences were suffered by others, too.

Because God can walk and chew gum at the same time, he can use problematic people while simultaneously holding them accountable for their misdeeds. His people, bought by His blood and guided by His Spirit, should be able — and definitely willing — to do the same.

Abraham Lincoln is considered by many to be among America’s greatest presidents. He also was far from perfect. For much of his political career, he was in favor of letting slave states remain so, and during one of the famous Lincoln-Douglas debates he said the following:

“I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, [applause]-that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality.”

And yet, despite these statements, we still call Lincoln the “Great Emancipator.” Why? Because he was. The same guy who said those dreadful things also lost his life in the cause of freeing the slaves.

Human nature is a complicated thing. We are all made in the image of God, and yet are all capable of falling very far from God at any given moment (or a lifetime) as well. This is why we all need the Savior. Great men sometimes fall. Bad men sometimes rise. Heroes of the faith like David and Samson had licentious blind spots. Powerful preachers like Spurgeon save souls one minute and struggle with depression the next.

The one constant here is God — the same yesterday, today, and forever. And that is why imperfect people can perform, by His grace, His perfect and pleasing will. Both the just and the unjust alike, as Christ said, are loved by God enough to each be tools of His love and mercy at any given time.

And if it is a profane man like Trump, who would be among the least likely politicians we could ever imagine to appoint the Supreme Court that ends America’s greatest moral evil, then by all means blessed be the name of the Lord. For all such blessings really flow from Him anyway, not from a politician.

A pastor, like Anyabwile, should know this. (For more from the author of “Pastor: Keep Killing Babies Because I Hate Trump” please click HERE)

State Department Employee Pleads Guilty to Producing Child Pornography

An Alexandria man pleaded guilty today to production of child pornography.

According to court documents, over at least a two year period, Skydance MacMahon, 44, conspired with an adult in Canada to produce over a thousand sexually explicit images and videos of minor children in Canada. These images and videos were produced at the direction of MacMahon using Skype and hidden cameras. MacMahon distributed these image and video files to other users and consumers of child pornography by providing access to the files on his cloud storage services and also by directly sending the files to other users. In addition to the child pornography images and videos MacMahon himself created, he also received and possessed thousands of images and videos of child pornography.

During the time he committed these offenses, MacMahon was a Digital Media Administrator at the Foreign Services Institute of the U.S. Department of State in Arlington.

MacMahon pleaded guilty to conspiring to produce child pornography and producing child pornography. He faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years and a maximum penalty of 60 years in prison when sentenced on October 12. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after taking into account the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. Iranian Diplomat Accused in Terror Plot Against Conference Attended by Giuliani and Gingrich

An Iranian diplomat and four others have been arrested for planning to conduct a terrorist attack at a high-profile Iranian opposition group’s rally in France this past weekend, Belgian authorities announced Monday.

Two of the suspects en route from Belgium were arrested with 500 grams of explosive chemicals, along with a detonation device, Belgian security authorities said in a statement. The Paris event was attended by several high-profile Americans, including President Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani and former speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.

According to Reuters:

“The 38-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, identified only as Amir S. and Nasimeh N., were charged with attempted terrorist murder and preparation of a terrorist act,” the statement said. Police carried out five separate raids linked to the bombing plot on Saturday, authorities announced.

Amir and Nasimeh were reportedly in contact with the Iranian diplomat, whose name has not been released. We do know that the person was a diplomat at the Iranian embassy in Austria. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is set to visit Austria on Wednesday.

The “Free Iran” conference was sponsored by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), which is part of the the controversial MEK (Mojahedin-e Khalq), a cult-like movement that claims to be the largest Iranian opposition organization. However, the outfit has in the past promoted Islamist and Marxist priorities, and it’s reportedly deeply unpopular inside Iran. The MEK fought on the side of Saddam Hussein during the Iraq-Iran war, which is the primary cause for resentment against it inside of Iran’s borders.

“The terrorists from the Mullahs’ regime in Belgium assisted by its terrorist-diplomats planned this attack,” the NCRI said in a statement to AFP. (For more from the author of “Iranian Diplomat Accused in Terror Plot Against Conference Attended by Giuliani and Gingrich” please click HERE)

Trump Doubles Down on Roe v. Wade, Hints at Major State-Wide Change to Landmark Case

President Donald Trump addressed his Supreme Court pick in light of Roe v. Wade on Sunday when he said that abortion may soon “end up with states.”

“Maybe someday it will be to the states. You never know how that’s going to turn out. That’s a very complex question,” Trump told Fox News Maria Bartiromo in a Sunday interview, according to its transcript.

“The Roe v. Wade is probably the one that people are talking about in terms of having an effect, but we’ll see what happens, but it could very well end up with states at some point,” Trump added.

Bartiromo previously asked the president whether he would ask his nominees if they would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade.

The president said that even if he won’t ask the potential justices their views on overturning a woman’s right to abortion, he will put conservative justices on the bench.

Eric Trump Rushes Into Busy NYC Traffic to Save Woman’s Life

. . .In the liberal mindset, the Trump men, specifically President Donald Trump and his two older sons, Don Jr. and Eric, are especially hateful toward women and children and care not a whit for whatever troubles they might have.

Of course, those with an open mind and eyes know that description of the Trump men to be patently false, and recent actions by Eric Trump that went almost completely unnoticed or reported would significantly undercut that particular anti-Trump media narrative. . .

Trump and his protective detail were passing by the F Station near 6th Avenue and 57th Street when they noticed the woman and stopped to try and render aid.

A witness who talked to the Examiner, and who preferred to remain anonymous, told the newspaper that the son of the president then noticed an ambulance that was passing by the scene and rushed out into the middle of traffic in a bid to flag it down.

“I watched as Eric looked up, spotted an ambulance slowly passing by on 6th, ran into traffic — almost getting hit by a bicyclist — and shouted at the ambulance to get its attention,” the witness told the Examiner. Segregating Children From Adults in Custody: Nothing New

The radio crackled a few decades ago and a supervisor called me to the office. When I arrived, our department head invited me in an unfamiliar friendly tone to step into his own office.

As soon as I did so, a uniformed marshal stepped out from behind the door and asked me if I was Bart Stinson. It was about a traffic ticket. I lived in a state with no personal income tax, and they were very serious about their other revenue sources. I was serious about my income sources, too, and was working a lot of overtime. I usually got home around 2 or 3 o’clock. I overslept a couple of 8 a.m. court appointments.

Did I have enough cash to pay the fine on the spot? It was my last chance to avoid arrest. But I didn’t have it. And so I took off my work shirt, emptied my pockets, took off my belt, removed my shoe strings, and the marshal searched and handcuffed me. Then he perp-walked me past gaping customers and co-workers to a government vehicle, where I was shackled at the ankles.

He drove me through the desert and across a major city to reach his suburban jail. There is no way it could have been cost-effective for them. But they were making an example of me, and they were teaching me a lesson. I guarantee you that I never slept through a court date again, even if it meant reducing my work schedule and losing much-needed income.

It was the second time in my life that I had been jailed. In neither case did the authorities ask me if I’d like to have my family with me in jail. I can honestly report that I missed my family while I was in jail. I had some anxiety about the consequences of my quarantine. But when the government takes custody of law-breakers, it’s not for the convenience and preferences of the law-breaker.

I met several young men in jail. None of them were allowed to have their loved ones in jail with them, either. Through the slats of the holding tank, we saw the officers walk young women in single file to the podium for processing. None of them were allowed to keep children with them in jail.

So far as I know, nobody ever appealed to the authorities to let any of us keep family with us in jail. It’s safe to say nobody cared that we were isolated from our family members.

However, Democrats and nominal Republicans are outraged that foreign adults, taken into custody for immigration misdemeanors, are temporarily segregated from children whom they claim as family.

Open-borders Democrats say that families should be released on their promise to appear for hearings to determine their immigration outcomes. But over the past 20 years, 37 percent of parties released pending immigration hearings were no-shows for the scheduled proceedings. Almost one million aliens with final orders of deportation have not left our country.

Thus immigration hawks are right to resist Democrats’ demand to release foreign invaders into our communities.

Over the first year of the Trump administration, front-line immigration enforcement reported a 315% increase in “illegal aliens fraudulently using [unrelated] children to pose as family units to gain entry into this country.” I have yet to hear a Democrat or #Nevertrump Republican express any concern whatsoever about this.

We’re told by indignant MSNBC news ranters that it is not a crime to be a refugee. But if the invaders were sincerely interested in applying for refugee status, they could have done so at any U.S. embassy in their own countries. They could have done so at ports such as El Paso and San Ysidro, where there is a system in place for adjudicating such requests.

That would have required them to submit to our sovereignty and authority. But the invading immigrants are advised by their own governments and by open-borders U.S. organizations to cross the border illegally. And so our government is faced with unsatisfactory options: ignore the invasion, or accept the expense and organizational burdens of housing, feeding and caring for large numbers of invaders.

Open-borders Democrats hope to burden the system with such high and unattainable requirements that the Trump administration will eventually relent, and release the invaders on the honor system. Large numbers of these invaders will skip their immigration hearings, wait for a future amnesty, and eventually ripen into dependable Democrat bloc voters.

This is the long-term arc of the Democratic strategy: to import enough invaders, to naturalize enough of them as citizens, and to register enough of them to vote here that the Democratic majority will be permanent. They won’t have to worry about competitive elections anymore. From that point forward, Democrats will never have to worry about the Electoral College, the “fly-over states” or the Deplorables.

It’s not the first time Democrats have attempted to “American-proof” U.S. elections. This is the party, remember, that wanted apportionment of Congressional districts and the Electoral College based in part on enormous slave populations that they forbade to vote. For raging, hyper-entitled Democrats, there’s always more than one way to skin a cat.

Merkel Gives In: German Chancellor Agrees to Tighten Immigration Policies

After facing push-back over her long-held open-door policies that have allowed hundreds of thousands of immigrants into her country, German Chancellor Angela Merkel gave in on Monday. . .

Merkel needed to make a deal in order to stay in power. Interior Minister and coalition government ally Horst Seehofer threatened to resign his post if Merkel didn’t budge.

A day before Monday’s agreement was reached, Seehofer told the press: “I will not be dismissed by a chancellor who is only chancellor because of me.”

Following two days of negotiations, Merkels’ Christian Democtratic Union party and Seehofer’s Christian Social Union made a deal that Merkel referred to as a “really good compromise.” . . .

Transgender ‘Woman’ to Compete in Miss Universe – and You Might Be Surprised at Who Made It Possible

Spain’s Angela Ponce will grace the stage at this year’s Miss Universe pageant, as the first transgender [man] to compete for the crown — and the 26-year-old has President Trump to partially [responsible] for the opportunity. . .

Ponce’s participation comes six years after the Miss Universe organization lifted its ban on transgender contestants. Back in 2012, now-US President Donald Trump owned the franchise, and sided with LGBTQ advocacy group GLAAD when transgender contestant Jenna Talackova sued in order to participate.

GLAAD spokesperson Herndon Graddick said at the time that “The Miss Universe Organization and Mr. Trump made it clear to GLAAD that they were open to making a policy change to include women who are transgender.

“We appreciate that he and his team responded swiftly and appropriately. The Miss Universe Organization today follows institutions that have taken a stand against discrimination of transgender women including the Olympics, NCAA, the Girl Scouts of America and The CW’s America’s Next Top Model.”

Over the weekend, Ponce won her country’s qualifying contest, beating out 22 other contestants. The beauty queen wrote on Instagram, “Bringing the name and colors of Spain before the universe is my great dream. My goal is to be a spokesperson for a message of inclusion, respect and diversity not only for the LGBTQ+ community, but also for the entire world.” (Read more from “Transgender ‘Woman’ to Compete in Miss Universe – and You Might Be Surprised at Who Made It Possible” HERE)
