The state of California’s lawsuit against a Christian who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple on religious grounds is a frivolous case meant to chill the baker’s free-speech rights, contends a petition to dismiss the case.
WND reported last week a judge refused the state’s request for a temporary order to force Cathy Miller of Tastries Bakery either to provide her wedding-cake artistry to homosexual duos or quit the business entirely.
Superior Court Judge David Lampe rejected the state’s request, arguing the issue is over First Amendment free-speech rights, not discrimination. The judge said the state was asking the court “to compel Miller to use her talents to design and create a cake she has not yet conceived with the knowledge that her work will be displayed in celebration of a marital union her religion forbids.”
“For this court to force such compliance would do violence to the essentials of free speech guaranteed under the First Amendment,” the judge said . . .
Now Tastries Bakery’s defense team, the Freedom of Conscience Defense Fund, is citing the state’s anti-SLAPP law, which protects individuals from lawsuits designed to silence them. (Read more from “State Now Suing to Shut up Christian Speech” HERE)

There’s been much speculation in the past few months over who is on the guest list for the upcoming royal wedding, where Britain’s Prince Harry will wed American actress Meghan Markle.
Several well-known names will no doubt be on the list, but a new report has revealed arguably the most famous American to get an invite — former President Barack Obama.
It was previously unclear whether or not Obama and his family would get invited to the wedding, which is set to take place on May 19 at Windsor Castle.
Though the former president is good friends with Prince Harry, the royal family was reportedly worried about upsetting President Donald Trump by inviting his predecessor, but not the current president himself.
It is unlikely that Trump, who Markle has publicly criticized in the past, is going to be invited to the wedding.
The U.K. Daily Star, however, reported Monday that the royal couple has decided to disregard their advisers and invite Obama, along with his wife, Michelle.
Prince Harry and Markle “want to do things their own way,” a royal source told The Star. “They are inviting their own friends, and not on the advice of aides.”
The royal couple has sent the Obamas an RSVP, leaving the final decision in the former first couple’s hands.
“I am very, very sure they will attend though,” the source said.
Barack Obama’s friendship with Prince Harry has been well-documented.
Last year, Obama let Harry interview him on BBC Radio 4’s “Today.”
Moreover, following the royal couple’s engagement announcement in November, Obama sent them both well wishes via Twitter.
“Michelle and I are delighted to congratulate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their engagement,” the former president wrote. “We wish you a lifetime of joy and happiness together.”
Michelle and I are delighted to congratulate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their engagement. We wish you a lifetime of joy and happiness together.
Meanwhile, Trump indicated last month that he is not terribly upset about being left off the invite list. Indeed, he said he hopes the royal couple lives a happy life together.
“I want them to be happy. I really want them to be happy. They look like a lovely couple,” Trump told British journalist Piers Morgan in an interview for ITV, according to Vanity Fair.
Trump’s remarks came despite the fact that Markle accused of being “misogynistic” during the 2016 presidential election cycle.
”Yes of course Trump is divisive,” she said on “The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore” in May 2016. “I think it was in 2012, the Republican Party lost the female vote by 12 points. That’s a huge number and with as misogynistic as Trump is and so vocal about it, that’s a huge chunk of it.”
Markle and Prince Harry are set to be married by Justin Welby, the archbishop of Canterbury. The entire royal family is expected to attend. (For more from the author of “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Wedding Invitations Send Trump Family an Unmistakable Message” please click HERE)

South African police are trying to identify a suspected poacher who was reportedly killed and partially devoured by lions in a private game reserve near the Kruger National Park.
The man’s mauled remains, including his head, were reportedly found today alongside a hunting rifle and ammunition.
“The process of identifying the deceased has already commenced and it might be made possible by the fact that his head is amongst the remains that were found at the scene,” South African Police Service spokesman Lt. Col. Moatshe Ngoepe told the country’s News24.
Ngoepe added: “We are now waiting for a person from the family but we are also utilizing our investigative resources to see if we can successfully identify the deceased.”
Ngoepe told Agence France-Presse news agency: “It seems the victim was poaching in the game park when he was attacked and killed by lions. They ate his body, nearly all of it, and just left his head and some remains.” (Read more from “Lions Reportedly Devour Suspected Poacher in South Africa” HERE)

By Reuters. Former journalist Joshua Cooper Ramo, working as an analyst for NBC, said on-air during the Pyeongchang Games opening ceremony that all Koreans recognized that Japan had served as an important example in South Korea’s own economic transformation.
Koreans around the world criticized his remarks on social media and a petition soon circulated online. Japan, which colonized the Korean peninsula from 1910 to 1945, has left a deep legacy of mistrust and ill-feeling in South Korea.
Ramo, who has written books on China and is a director of Starbucks Corp and FedEx Corp, said as athletes paraded into the Games stadium that “every Korean will tell you that Japan is a cultural, technological and economic example that has been so important to their own transformation”. . .
Ramo, who was also an on-air contributor for NBC during the Beijing Olympics, is co-CEO of Kissinger Associates, an advisory firm of former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. NBC Forced to Apologize After Katie Couric, Colleagues Insult Entire Nation of South Korea
By The Daily Wire. NBC, the only network on which Americans can watch the Olympics, has been forced to issue an apology to the entire nation of South Korea after its anchors, Mike Tirico and Katie Couric, and its Asian correspondent, Joshua Cooper Ramo, accidentally insulted the Korean people during their Opening Ceremonies broadcast.
The trio was discussing visiting Olympic dignitaries, when they settled on Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, according to Yahoo News.
“In the booth with Mike Tirico and Katie Couric, NBC Asian correspondent Joshua Cooper Ramo said that ‘every Korean’ respected Japan for their recent achievements as a nation, insinuating that South Korea had forgotten about the 35 brutal years of Japanese rule that ended after World War II,” Yahoo reported . . .
On Saturday, NBC issued a comprehensive apology.
During our coverage of the Parade of Nations on Friday we said it was notable that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe made the trip to Korea for the Olympics, “representing Japan, a country which occupied Korea from 1910 to 1945 but every Korean will tell you that Japan is a cultural, technological and economic example that has been so important to their own transformation.” We understand the Korean people were insulted by these comments and we apologize.

By The Washington Post. Friday’s Opening Ceremonies for the Winter Olympics in South Korea were, by most accounts, spectacular. NBC’s coverage of the spectacle, on the other hand, was considered hit and miss. Occasionally disastrous.
It wasn’t so much the hosts, Katie Couric and Mike Tirico, who annoyed critics, but rather the network’s analyst, Joshua Cooper Ramo. . .
But Ramo’s big misstep came when he noticed Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan in the crowd and offered what he knew about the country’s history with Korea.
Japan was “a country which occupied Korea from 1910 to 1945,” Ramo said, correctly (though he did not mention that historians say the Japanese army forced tens of thousands of Koreans into sex slavery.)
“But,” Ramo continued, “every Korean will tell you that Japan as a cultural and technological and economic example has been so important to their own transformation.” (Read more from “NBC Commentators #Fail at the Olympics” HERE)

2018 has been a devastating year for the flu. So far, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recorded 63 pediatric deaths. And it’s not even the middle of February yet.
But now a Japanese drugmaker claims that it has developed a pill that can kill the virus within a day, The Wall Street Journal reports.
A late-stage trial on Japanese and American flu patients found that for the people who took the Shionogi & Co. compound, the median time taken to wipe out the virus was 24 hours. That is much quicker than any other flu drug on the market, including Roche AG’s Tamiflu, which the trial showed took three times longer to achieve the same result. Quickly killing the virus could reduce its contagious effects, Shionogi said.
Also, Shionogi’s experimental drug requires only a single dose, while patients need to take two doses of Tamiflu a day, for five days.
Both Shionogi’s compound and Tamiflu take roughly the same amount of time to entirely contain flu symptoms, but Shionogi says its compound provides immediate relief faster.

Indonesian police shot and wounded a man wielding a one-meter-long sword who attacked a Catholic Church service Sunday, seriously injuring four, including a priest, and decapitating a statue of Jesus.
Police in the world’s most populous Muslim nation in the world say they are stumped about a motive.
About 100 people were attending the service in the town of Sleman in Yogyakarta province on Java island when a man barged in wielding the sword began attacking terror-stricken faithful, seemingly indiscriminately . . .
A few minutes after the service started, a congregation member ran into the church with a bleeding head chased by a young man holding a sharp weapon, said worshipper Andhi Cahyo.
People fled through another door as the attacker ran amok inside the church. He destroyed some books and a Virgin Mary statue with his sword, said Cahyo, and attacked 81-year-old German priest Edmund Prier who was standing at the altar. Barack Obama went to the United Nations Security Council to coordinate military intervention against Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi’s regime, claiming the objective was to save the lives of peaceful, pro-democracy protesters, describes a new report in Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin.
Foreign Affairs warned, however, that far from being the new foundation for democracy, Obama’s campaign “was an abject failure, judged even by its own standards.
Libya, the report said, “has devolved into a failed state” with “violent deaths.”
Newsweek asked whether the “role the Obama administration played in the North African country’s instability” could be blamed for the newly developing slave trade there . . .
The CRS, quoting a statement from U.S. Africa Command, explained the instability in Libya following Obama’s intervention “may be the most significant, near-term threat to U.S. and allies’ interests” in Africa. (Read more from “Obama Policy Helped Create the Top African Threat” HERE)
A young recipient of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program is grateful to President Donald Trump for the “leadership” and “compassion” he has displayed as he works to find a solution to the DACA issue.
But Hilario “Eli” Yanez, a native of Mexico who was brought to the U.S. when he was just 1 year old, blasted Democrats for using DACA recipients as “pawns.”
Appearing Saturday on “Fox & Friends,” Yanez praised Trump’s work on immigration, indicating that the president has shown “courage.”
“Let me begin by first thanking Donald Trump for his leadership, his compassion and also the courage to take on this issue,” Yanez said, before pointing out that Trump has come out in favor of a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients.

“Here’s a guy who wants to provide a pathway to citizenship for myself and really make a difference in my life,” he said.
Yanez also recognized the importance of border security, noting that “if a (border) wall is necessary,” than such a wall should be funded.
Later in the segment, though, Yanez expressed his frustration with Democrat leaders in Congress — specifically House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer — who he suggested are using dreamers like himself as political “pawns.”
“The Democratic leadership, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, really have no clear message,” he said, as reported by The Daily Caller. “We have been confused. I think at the end of the day they have been using us as pawns.”
Yanez argued that Democrats should not have shut down the federal government over DACA, saying that it was wrong to hold “our American people and our military hostage”
Trump rescinded the Obama-era executive order in September 2017, giving Congress until March 5 to pass legislation addressing the fate of DACA recipients.
“There is plenty of time on the table to fix this,” Yanez said. “March 5 is the deadline.”
Yanez, who is currently employed as a technology analyst at Accenture Technology in Houston, Texas, also thinks the visa lottery system should be cast aside in favor of a merit-based system.
“I think it’s outdated,” he said of the visa lottery system. “I think it’s time for people who want to come to the United States to focus on skills so they can contribute to the American economy.”
Yanez’s views on how to fix America’s broken immigration system seem to line up with Trump’s proposal regarding the matter.
As The Western Journal reported, Trump detailed his immigration plan during his State of the Union address late last month.
Under the proposal, roughly 1.8 million illegal immigrants would essentially receive amnesty, but only if certain demands are met.
These demands include $25 billion for construction of a border wall and an end to the visa lottery and chain migration systems. Instead, Trump wants a merit-based program that prioritizes skilled immigrants who will contribute to American society.
Yanez said Trump is “one of the greatest presidents to get things done,” at least in terms of legislation. Though he said Trump is willing to work with politicians on the other side of the aisle, it’s Democrats who “don’t want to work with him.”
Whatever happens, Yanez emphasized that he loves the U.S., and would “do anything to serve this country, to die for this country.” (For more from the author of “DACA ‘Dreamer’ Blasts Dems for Using Immigrants as ‘Pawns,’ Praises Trump” please click HERE)

Democrats and the broader left have “targeted the white male … for extinction,” said Michael Savage on Thursday’s edition of his eponymous radio show, pointing to Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) recent use of an anecdote involving her grandson to push racial politics . . .
“What Pelosi is doing has been done in this society for three or four decades,” said Savage. “They targeted the white male a long time ago. They targeted you for extinction, and it starts with very subtle things.”
Savage drew parallels between Nazi Germany’s anti-Semitic Nuremberg laws and contemporary neo-Marxist racial politics pushed by Democrats and leftists targeting whites . . .
“The cancer of hatred of Caucasians [and] white people,” said Savage, is advanced “every day” with narratives of “white privilege.”
Colleges and universities are pushing left-wing racial agitation upon their student bodies, said Savage: “What do you think the radical feminist monsters are doing to your son and daughter in college by telling them that whiteness is a crime?” (Read more from “Savage: Pelosi, Dems Think Whiteness Is a Crime” HERE)
There is a saying ‘one good turn deserves another’ – and in Pastor John Greenaway’s case, it has proved to be true.
He and his family gave shelter to a homeless man in 2016, after a chance meeting in a faith mission book shop . . .
In turn, Mr Boyd changed a life when he offered the pastor, who needed an organ transplant, one of his kidneys.
Since then, Mr Boyd has stayed at the family home every day and night, and has become another son to the pastor, and his wife, who already have four children.
Last March, he repaid the pastor for his generosity by donating one of his kidneys to him. (Read more from “Homeless Man Saves Life of Pastor Who Took Him In” HERE)
