Judge Rules Against London Hospital–In Favor of Charlie Gard’s Parents

A judge at London’s High Court ruled against the hospital and in favor of the parents of baby Charlie Gard–who is suffering from a rare genetic disorder–that they may present new scientific evidence concerning their son’s treatment, which will be reviewed this Thursday and could possibly lead to Charlie receiving treatment in the United States. But the outcome is still uncertain and Charlie’s fate is precarious.

Charlie Gard is 10 months old. He lives on life support in the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. His genetic disorder is destructive to muscles and organs, and most people who have the problem die in infancy. The baby’s parents, Chris Gard and Connie Yates, want their son to undergo an experimental treatment, which has been helpful in some cases. An online campaign has raised more than $1.5 million for the baby’s treament.

Under the health care laws in Britain, however, the parents are not allowed to pursue this option. The hospital contends Charlie is brain-damaged and beyond medical hope, and the hospital wants to shut off his life support. This denial of the parent’s desire to seek treatment for their son elsewhere led to several court rulings — in favor of the hospital. On Monday, July 10, the judge who previously ruled against the Gards agreed to review whatever new evience they can present to him for a reevaluation.

“The Great Ormond Street Hospital requested Mr. Justice Francis to reaffirm his prior ruling,” Americans United for Life President Catherine Glenn Foster told CNSNews.com from London. “So they argued for him to say that, indeed, there is no new evidence and that they were free to remove Charlie’s [life] support.” (Read more from “Judge Rules Against London Hospital–In Favor of Charlie Gard’s Parents” HERE)

Obama Joins Eric Holder Powwow to Fund Dem Electoral Tinkering

Former President Barack Obama will make an appearance at a Washington, D.C.-area fundraiser to help boost the efforts of his former attorney general, Eric Holder, and his project to counter recent-years’ massive Democrat losses by tinkering with election maps.

Politico reported Sunday:

Barack Obama will make the first official political move of his post-presidency on Thursday, headlining a private fundraiser for the National Democratic Redistricting Committee at a private home in Washington.

The event, which will also be attended by NDRC chair Eric Holder and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, is to support the group he’s helping back to coordinate Democratic efforts in state races and lawsuits to push back on Republican success in gerrymandering over many cycles. In many statehouses and Congress, that’s left Democrats at a baked-in disadvantage.

This is not Obama’s first foray into the political sphere since leaving office. Obama has taken criticism for taking pot shots at President Trump for pulling out of the Paris climate agreement and attempting to address the failures of his signature health care legislation, the Affordable Care Act.

Former presidents have been known to take up causes after their time in the Oval Office, but the most notable examples – such as George W. Bush’s work in veterans’ advocacy, and Jimmy Carter’s efforts globally to combat disease and homelessness – have skewed closer to the philanthropic than political. Even The Washington Post has called Obama’s involvement in the NRDC “a rare, if not unprecedented, step in the modern era.”

While the committee may be “proud” to have Obama’s support, as Holder said in a statement, that enthusiasm is somewhat ironic, given the massive electoral losses the Democratic Party suffered under the former president’s leadership.

According to the committee’s website, Holder’s group was created to build a “targeted, state-by-state strategy that ensures Democrats can produce fairer maps in the 2021 redistricting process.” The goal of these “fairer maps,” of course, is to help the DNC win elections against their Republican counterparts.

Eric Holder and the NRDC’s efforts are already getting a fair amount of support from sympathetic federal judges.

In recent years, however, due to court decisions mostly revolving around the Voting Rights Act, a combination of federal legislation and courts have usurped power from state legislators and have placed an ever-increasing list of prohibitions against how states can run their elections.

And while many critics of partisan gerrymandering tend to view it as a means by which the GOP alone holds power in the supermajority of state and local jurisdictions, these assertions tend to overlook examples like those in Illinois and Maryland.

And while racial gerrymanders are prohibited by the Voting Rights Act, the Supreme Court agreed to take up a redistricting case that could also bar drawing lines based on political affiliation as well, despite previous federal rulings which have allowed the practice.

In reality, there is simply no way to draw a district’s boundaries without favoring or disfavoring some sort of demographic. Regardless of which actors are given control over the process, some group is going to experience less representation. Even when the power to draw lines is taken from one group, the real outcome is simply trading one group’s gerrymandered map for another one.

This understanding is written into the U.S. Constitution, which leaves the power over redistricting to the states and their citizens.

“Yes, both political parties are guilty of gerrymandering in their favor when they seize control of state government,” explains Conservative Review senior editor Daniel Horowitz. “That is part of politics and the spoils of war.”

“While legislative gerrymanders — when taken to an extreme and disrespect natural geographic and demographic boundaries — are insidious, they are not nearly as bad as judicial gerrymanders,” Horowitz writes. “Federal judges are unelected and serve life-tenures. There is no recourse when they subjectively redraw maps.” (For more from the author of “Obama Joins Eric Holder Powwow to Fund Dem Electoral Tinkering” please click HERE)

Trump Is Right. Why Does Obama Get a Free Pass on Russia?

While the Left beats the drum over alleged Russian collusion from the Trump campaign, the liberal media are conveniently ignoring the intelligence provided to former President Obama and his lack of taking action.

Why are the media ignoring how Obama handled Russia during the 2016 presidential election?

I debated this topic on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends,” with co-host Steve Doocy and Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine.

Soldier Arrested by FBI SWAT Team for Alleged Ties to ISIS

An FBI SWAT team arrested Hawaii-based soldier Ikaika Erik Kang on Saturday for alleged ties to the Islamic State.

The FBI field office in Honolulu stated that the 34-year-old active-duty soldier is stationed at the Schofield Barracks and appeared in court Monday regarding allegations of terror links, USA Today reports.

According to the criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court of Hawaii, Kang, part of the 25th Infantry Division, pledged allegiance to ISIS. Moreover, Kang also attempted to provide military documents to ISIS contacts, authorities allege.

Unlike other service members apprehended due to terror connections, Sgt. 1st Class Kang had a long record of service, having been awarded the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Iraq Campaign Medal, among others. He deployed to Iraq in 2010 and Afghanistan in 2014. (Read more from “Soldier Arrested by FBI SWAT Team for Alleged Ties to ISIS” HERE)

Bernie Sanders Compares GOP Health Care Bill to Terrorist Attack

In just the latest sign that he has no intention of calming down his political rhetoric, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders compared House Republicans’ health care bill to a terrorist attack.

“Now obviously nobody can predict exactly how many people will die if they lose their coverage. Nobody can make that prediction,” Sanders said at a rally in West Virginia on Sunday. “But what experts at the Harvard School of Public Health estimate, is that if 23 million Americans were to be thrown off the insurance they currently have, which is what the House bill would do, up to, up to 28,000 Americans every single year could die.”

The socialist senator proceeded to compare the bill to the September 11th terrorist attacks: “That is nine times more than the tragic losses we suffered on 9/11, every single year.”

Muslim Activist: Trump Supporters ‘I Am You Worst Nightmare’

Muslim activist Linda Sarsour is lashing out at her critics in the conservative media for reporting on her recent speech before the Islamic Society of North America.

She says her call for “jihad” against the Trump administration was taken out of context by “Islamophobes” and “white supremacists.”

As a powerful Muslim woman who wears a hijab, “Islamophobes are attacking me because I’m their worst nightmare,” Sarsour, co-organizer of the Woman’s March on Washington, wrote in a stinging op-ed Sunday for the Washington Post.

Sarsour told her Muslim audience at the July 1-3 ISNA convention that they should remain constantly in a state of “rage” against Trump. She encouraged them not to assimilate into American society and said she hoped Allah would find their resistance against Trump as an acceptable form of jihad.

“I hope, that when we stand up to those who oppress our communities, that Allah accepts from us that as a form of jihad,” Sarsour said. “That we are struggling against tyrants and rulers, not only abroad in the Middle East or on the other side of the world, but here in these United States of America. Govt. ‘Will Shut Down Without Border-Wall Funding’

House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows said Monday that a government shutdown is highly possible if proper funding for the U.S.-Mexico border wall is not included in a spending bill.

According to Meadows, conservatives will block any spending bill that does not include border wall funding, and many conservative members won’t support any funding plan unless it includes provisions for a wall.

“There is nothing more critical that has to be funded than funding the border wall for two reasons,” Meadows said in a phone interview with Breitbart News. “One is it is a commitment that the president made to the American people and one that he intends on keeping, but the second part of that is for our national security we must secure our borders. And the American people will accept no less.” (Read more from “Govt. ‘Will Shut Down Without Border-Wall Funding'” HERE)

‘Bloodiest Ramadan in Recent History’

Ramadan, the month of fasting that forms one of the five “pillars” of Islam, in recent years frequently drew mention from President Obama.

Attacks and threats against Muslims have been reported during the most recent holiday, including a threat of violence at a Manhattan mosque, an assault of a woman on a Boston train, pellet gun vandalism at a New York mosque, hateful phone calls at Denver mosques and harassment of girls wearing hijabs in Chicago.

The Christian ministry Barnabas Fund, however, highlighted another statistic.

It noted 1,629 people were killed by Muslims during their holy month this year.

“On 26 May, just as Ramadan was about to start, jihadists attacked buses carrying Egyptian Christians to a monastery, killing 29 – some of them young children,” the worldwide ministry to persecuted Christians reported. (Read more from “‘Bloodiest Ramadan in Recent History'” HERE)

Wesley Clark Jr. Says Veterans for Standing Rock Infiltrated by Feds: ‘Threat to Our Democracy’

Seven months after thousands of veterans came to support the Standing Rock Sioux in their fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline, one of the organizers is claiming the Veterans for Standing Rock rally was infiltrated by private military contractors. The action was organized by Wes Clark Jr. and Michael A. Wood Jr., a Marine Corps veteran who recently retired from the Baltimore police force to focus on reforming law enforcement. Clark Jr. is a long time correspondent for The Young Turks. He is also the son of General Wesley Clark who infamously warned that the U.S. government was planning the invasions of seven nations following the 9/11 attacks.

On Sunday morning, Wes Clark Jr. revealed the details via a Facebook status.

“I need you all to share this with every person who went or contributed to Veterans Stand for Standing Rock last December.” Clark Jr. wrote on Facebook. “I did not realize at the time but some of our planning staff were paid military contractors working for the other side.”

Presumably, the “other side” is referring to the police and/or Energy Transfer Partners, the company behind the Dakota Access Pipeline. Clark Jr. goes on to warn participants of the veterans action that these military contractors have their personal details on file and at some point may “round them up.”

They have the names, emails, addresses, phone numbers and personal information for each and every one of us that went out there or contributed money to the cause of protecting both our environment and our Constitution. Please be cognizant of the fact that all of us are on a list and that if there is civil disorder in this country, we will be the first people rounded up.

When questioned further on his comments, Clark Jr. said early on he figured out who a couple of the contractors were after watching them cause “chaos and dissension within the camp”. Clark Jr. describes watching the online activity of a few individuals for six months. When asked if he would provide names of suspected military contractors, Clark Jr. named Loreal Blackshawl, Mark Sanderson and Ed Higgins.

“The others I don’t have as solid proof about but I’ve heard there were almost 150 different contractors who infiltrated the group,” he told AP. “The use of private military contractors in the service of oil companies on American soil against American citizens is a threat to our democracy.”

Michael Woods Jr. told AP, “Of course they tried, I am not sure of a solid link, but I would not be surprised. It seemed every step was unneccessarily difficult.”

The Veterans for Standing Rock event took place between December 4 through the 7. Amidst the freezing temperatures of the North Dakota winter, tens and thousands of veterans and supporters swelled the population of the Oceti Sakowin and Sacred Stone Camps. Following months of violence between native water protectors and their allies, Clark Jr. and Wood Jr. issued the call for veterans to come stand in defense of the Standing Rock Sioux in their fight against the DAPL.

“This country is repressing our people,” Wood Jr. told Task & Purpose. “If we’re going to be heroes, if we’re really going to be those veterans that this country praises, well, then we need to do the things that we actually said we’re going to do when we took the oath to defend the Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic.”

It is important to remember that the same weekend the veterans and supporters flooded the camps the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced that they would delay the permitting of the pipeline. Following the announcement the atmosphere of the camps was fairly cautious. There were celebrations, but there was also hesitation as water protectors wondered if the delay was anything more than a diversion or a temporary respite. Some pipeline opponents theorized that the flooding of veteran support and the announcement would actually serve as a release valve for the building opposition to the pipeline. Once the mainstream media left and the supporters left, the pipeline was pushed through by ETP and the Trump administration as expected.

Readers should also note that it was previously revealed that private military contractors TigerSwan (and likely others) were involved in aerial surveillance, infiltration of camps, and, according to one former employee, lighting their own vehicles on fire. Activist Post released exclusive video of vehicles being lit on fire by masked provocateurs.

If the words of Clark Jr. can be confirmed it would prove that private military contractors were involved in both the law enforcement battle against the water protectors, as well as the fight against the pipeline itself. This means the entire NoDAPL movement was infiltrated to one degree or another. Is Mike Pence Betting It Will All Come Crashing Down on Trump?

Vice President Pence is spending considerable time cultivating big-money Republican donors at small, private events, including hedge fund managers and executives from brokerage houses, chemical giants and defense contractors, Kenneth P. Vogel reports at the New York Times. Many of these events, whose participants are kept secret from the media and are omitted from Pence’s public schedule, have been taking place at the vice-presidential residence at the Naval Observatory, as well as other nongovernment venues.

While cultivating support from deep-pocketed business interests is nothing new in GOP politics, Pence’s activities raise the question of whether he is doing this for Trump-Pence 2020 — or for himself. As Vogel’s piece points out, Pence’s intimate confabs with wealthy donors and conservative power brokers “have fueled speculation among Republican insiders that he is laying the foundation for his own political future, independent from Mr. Trump.”

All of this suggests something important about President Trump. Despite Pence’s protestations to the contrary, the vice president looks to be preparing for his own political future. Beyond this clear signal about his own political ambitions, Pence’s actions raise the question of whether he has lost confidence in Trump’s ability to come out of the Russia investigation unscathed.

This is not the first time that Pence, in his short tenure as Trump’s vice president, has sparked chatter about his political ambitions — unyoked from Trump. In May, Pence filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission, forming his own political action committee, the Great America Committee, marking “the first time a sitting vice president has formed such a separate political arm,” NBC News reported at the time.
