According to notes provided to Congress by the FBI, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton claimed that former Secretary of State Colin Powell had advised her to rely on a private email address for nonclassified communication.
The conversation supposedly took place during a 2009 dinner party at the home of Madeleine Albright. According to Clinton, Powell discussed the multiple benefits of using private email to handle certain work-related tasks.
The New York Times reported on the conversation Thursday, citing an excerpt from an upcoming book by journalist Joe Conason titled Man of the World: The Further Endeavors of Bill Clinton.
“Toward the end of the evening, over dessert, Albright asked all of the former secretaries to offer one salient bit of counsel to the nation’s next top diplomat,” Conason wrote. “Powell told her to use her own email, as he had done, except for classified communications, which he had sent and received via a State Department computer.”
But on Friday, Powell said that no such conversation regarding the usage of private email to conduct business had taken place.
“General Powell has no recollection of the dinner conversation,” the former secretary of state’s office said in a statement.
Powell’s office did clarify that at one point he sent an email to Clinton describing the benefits of using personal email for certain intradepartmental communications.
“He did write Secretary Clinton an email memo describing his use of his personal AOL email account for unclassified messages and how it vastly improved communications within the State Department,” the statement said.
Clinton has referred to Powell in order to justify setting up her own email server. But the differences between the two are stark: Powell used a commercial account while Clinton set up a private network, and Powell sent only two emails that were retroactively classified at the lowest level, while Clinton sent more than 1,000 that were classified.
House Republicans have officially requested that the Department of Justice investigate whether Clinton committed perjury while testifying before Congress about the email scandal.
Among other things, they cite her claim that “there was nothing marked classified on my emails, either sent or received.”
FBI Director James Comey said last month that some of the emails found on Clinton’s private server were in fact marked that they contained classified information and were so marked at the time they were handled by Clinton.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump took a timeout from campaigning to visit flood victims in Baton Rouge, La.
His campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, told reporters that the visit was to “help people on the ground” with “no press allowed.” She said the move was nonpolitical and would show Trump’s more “presidential” side.
However, Trump did take a moment at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church to slam President Obama for not showing up and offering assistance.
“The president said he doesn’t want to go, he’s trying to get out of a golf game,” Trump said.
Evangelist Tony Perkins, whose own home was flooded, joked that the reason was that Obama was trying to stay “under par while we’re underwater.”
“He’ll never be under par,” Trump quipped back.
Some media outlets, however, criticized the GOP nominee for not doing enough to help. They highlighted a moment caught on camera in which the real estate mogul was seen unloading toys for flood victims.
Tommy Christopher of Mediaite sarcastically put “helping out” in quotes, saying that Trump assisted people “by unloading a truckload of toys for 49 seconds.”
Others echoed that sentiment on Twitter.

Trump spent the rest of his trip visiting various locations. He and his running mate, former Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, traveled across flood-ravaged areas through East Baton Rouge and Ascension parishes.
Church maintenance supervisor Terry Phinney said he was happy with the candidate’s visit, telling reporters that “it was a good little boost for folks who are tired.”
Phinney was no fan of Trump before the visit. However, after he saw that the GOP nominee was genuinely concerned about the situation and seeking to educate himself on the damage, he changed his stance.
“He wanted to know percentages of homes damaged in the area, around about how many would have flood insurance,” Phinney said.
Overall, Trump was very well received by the locals, with a number of people commenting positively on his visit.
Jeff Nolan, who lost his home in the flood, met the candidate at the church and had him sign the back of his shirt.
Nolan said it meant “everything” to him that Trump came to Louisiana to see the damage and relief efforts first-hand.
“Trump is the man,” he said. “He’s the real deal.”
Pam West, who had to be rescued from her flooded home, also came to see Trump and said his visit was “awesome.”
“Our own dear president is too busy at Martha’s Vineyard to visit us,” she said.
Obama, who declined to cut short his vacation to tour Louisiana and offer support, announced after Trump’s visit that he too would travel to the area next week.

Jesus has been looming over the Rio games. And we don’t just mean the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue towering over the city. His presence has been felt in expressions of Christian faith by many of the athletes competing in the Olympics, though you’d be hard-pressed to find it breaking through the mainstream media coverage of the games.
In most instances, reporters would rather try catching a javelin with their bare hands then catch themselves quoting athletes expressing their joy in the Lord. Video highlights seem to cut away from the medal-winner just as they get to praising Jesus. Even Simone Biles saying Tuesday night she wanted to see Christ the Redeemer seemed to throw NBC’s Bob Costas for a loop. He offered a startled and odd “oh,” and an awkward, rapid change of subject.
By contrast, it’s amusing to watch the mainstream media fawn over Muslim fencer Ibtijah Muhammad, who was wildly heralded for being the first American Olympian to wear a hijab while competing. On Saturday, when America medaled in the women’s team sabre event, the AP story opened, “Ibtihaj Muhammad came to the Olympics determined to show the world that Muslim-American women can excel in sports. Muhammed will return home to New Jersey with proof she was right.”
Did anyone really need proof? Do her teammates — who remain unnamed in the article — have the right to feel like chopped liver?
Muslim Fencer Scores Media Victory Over Christian and Jewish Gymnasts
The media fixated on Muhammad’s Muslim faith the second she stepped onto the fencing strip for the individual sabre competition. Newsbusters’ Katie Yoder did some calculating. As of last Friday, American television networks dedicated 13 minutes, 25 seconds to Muhammad simply because she was the first American Olympian to wear a hijab.
By contrast, says Yoder, “When the U.S. women’s gymnastics landed a gold medal Tuesday evening, the broadcast networks spent 22 minutes, 35 seconds celebrating the win and interviewing the girls. Only 0.6 percent of the coverage mentioned the girls’ faith, even though several of them clearly expressed that God was their inspiration for competing.”
Now, as a former fencer, watching any fencer get national attention is worth a crisp salute. But Muhammad getting 100 times more attention for being a Muslim than the “Final Five” got for their faith should earn the media a major point deduction.
Still, the Light has found a way to shine. Here are just a few examples:
Faith of “The Final Five” on Display
Monday morning, as she prepared to compete on the balance beam, 16-year-old Laurie Hernandez tweeted out Isaiah 40:31:
I don’t know how anybody could walk — let alone flip, flop and fly — on a 4″-wide elevated piece of wood without feeling at least a little faint. But Hernandez did “soar on wings like eagles,” and earned a silver medal. In the ensuing hoopla, she found time to praise Hillsong United’s “Touch the Sky.”
Hillsong Young & Free is just one of the Christian artists on the Olympic training playlist teammate Gabby Douglas shared with Billboard magazine right before the Games. Unfortunately, Gabby Douglas has had an Olympic experience filled with more lament than celebration. Cruel attacks on her looks, her demeanor, even her patriotism devastated the regal 2012 Olympic darling. She told the media Tuesday the comments were “really hurtful,” and as ESPN reported, she then walked down a hallway, “stood in a corner, facing a wall, and had a good, long cry.” Very few people approached her. Hopefully, one of the songs on her Billboard list came to her heart: “You’ll Never Be Alone.”
By Wednesday, it appears Gabby was itching to soar again.
American runner Abbey D’Agostino knows the presence of God in the midst of pain. Her inspirational example of the Olympic spirit has made headlines across the globe. Abbey was competing in a 5,000-meter qualifier Tuesday when she got tangled with New Zealand’s Nikki Hamblin. Both women crashed to the ground. Abbey scrambled to her feet to continue racing, but stopped cold when she saw Nikki was still crumpled on the track. Abbey reached for her competitor, helped her up and urged the New Zealander to keep running.
Both completed the race. However, Abbey was carted off the track in a wheelchair. Somehow, maybe you can say miraculously, she had finished the final 2,000 meters despite suffering a torn ACL and strained MCL in her right knee. (For you metric-phobes, that’s 1.25 miles.)
Despite the stop, despite the injury, Abbey has no regrets. And you have to hear why. “Although my actions were instinctual at that moment, the only way I can and have rationalized it is that God prepared my heart to respond that way,” said the 24-year-old Christian. “This whole time here, he’s made clear to me that my experience in Rio was going to be about more than my race performance — and as soon as Nikki got up I knew that was it.”
According to the race results, Abbey D’Agostino finished in 29th place. Yet even Michael Phelps is no greater a champion.
“We Just Let His Presence Come Upon Us”
American women’s hurdlers are leaving Rio with the bling. Brianna Rollins, Nia Ali and Kristi Castlin earned gold, silver and bronze in the 100-meter hurdles; the first time a single nation has swept the medals since 1972. And to Him they gave the glory.
“I just kept God first and just continued to let Him guide me through the rounds,” Rollins said, “We formed a prayer circle this morning and we just let His presence come out here and continue to glorify him and do the best that we can and that’s what we did.”
“We Are Winners Because of This World”
Finally, we started out by saying the mainstream media appears to be downplaying the importance of Christian faith to many of the athletes. So we do have to credit NBC where credit’s due, as in their story “Divers Johnson and Boudia rely on faith to put minds at ease,” about Olympic silver medalists Steele Johnson and David Boudia.
But we close with an inspirational moment that NBC didn’t quite get. Go to NBCOlympics.com and you’ll find a video titled “Fiji rugby players sing after winning gold.” The full caption accompanying the video reads, “The Figi men’s rugby team sang in celebration after winning the gold medal.” Oh, NBC, it was much more. They sang alright. They sang like David sang.
This was the first Olympic gold medal Fiji has won in that nation’s entire history, and the Fiji rugby 7 were singing about the King. It’s a gospel hymn called “E Da SA Qaqa.” Translation: “We Are Winners Because Of This World.”

Have you wondered how big our federal debt really is?

According to the chart below, there is currently $60 trillion in outstanding public debt — or in other words, the combined debts of all the world’s governments.
Sadly, among the great accomplishments of the United States — world superpower, first to conquer outer space, historic experiment in democracy, shining city on the hill, etc etc — the U.S. is also renowned for owning the largest share of that world’s debt.
That’s not something we should be proud of.
Even worse, the U.S. holds 29 percent of all world government debt but makes up 23 percent of the world economy. That means we owe more than we’re putting out in value. Or, put another way, our collective mouth is writing checks that our collective funds can’t cash.
Today, the U.S. government has more than $19.42 trillion in outstanding debt. That amounts to more than $60,000 per person living in America. Or, put differently, that’s $140,000 per taxpayer — those who are truly on the hook for paying off what our government has spent “for our benefit.”

Friday, a federal judge instructed Hillary Clinton to answer questions from a conservative watchdog group about her use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state, reports Fox News.
U.S. District Court Judge Emmet G. Sullivan issued the order as part of a lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch. The group had sought to question Clinton under oath and in person, but the judge ruled she would only have to answer questions in writing.
FBI Director James Comey announced last month that the agency would not seek criminal charges against Clinton after an investigation into her email use, although he concluded she been “extremely careless” in her handling of sensitive material.
Judicial Watch’s Director of Investigations Chris Farrell said that while they would have preferred to have Clinton answer questions in person, the decision represented a victory for the organization.
“Judicial Watch will get Clinton under oath regarding the set-up of her outlaw server – something no other person, organization or agency has been ableto do, to date,” said Farrell.
“We believe it is a victory for law and order to get Hillary Clinton under oath answering questions about the server setup and why she did it.”
Judge Sullivan said Judicial Watch must submit its questions to Clinton by Oct. 14. Clinton will have 30 days to respond. Judicial Watch has until mid-October to submit their questions to Clinton before she could delay her answers past the November election.

Donald Trump has actually been making some fantastic speeches over the past week, ones that stay away from the typical over-the-top rhetoric and wackiness we’d been seeing previously. This should be obvious by the limited coverage his speeches are garnering from the Credentialed Media. Wouldn’t want to see Trump in a good light, right? Maybe that has changed?
The Republican nominee delivers one of the most comprehensive, on-message rationales for his candidacy to date.
Three and a half months after sealing the Republican nomination, Donald Trump pivoted to contest the general election on Thursday night, expressing regret for his past failures to “choose the right words” and delivering one of the most comprehensive, on-message rationales for his candidacy to date.
Speaking from prepared remarks on the heels of another staffing shakeup, Trump positioned himself as the champion of voiceless Americans against a corrupt and incompetent elite and the leader of an inclusive movement who repeatedly condemned “bigotry.”
His address, delivered at a rally in Charlotte, North Carolina, presented the sort of message Republican leaders have been waiting months to hear. But with 82 days left until the election and early voting only weeks away, even a flawless sprint to the finish line may be too little too late for Trump to salvage his flailing campaign.
This may seem like typical liberal media spin, but, it is a good point: is it too late? His speeches have been pretty cogent, responsible, and provided excellent policy choices, while also imploring blacks, Hispanics, gays, and others to stop voting for the party which has been pandering to them while keeping them down, namely, the Democrats.
Can it work? He seems much more focused on policy and attacking Hillary and the Democrats while asking for the votes of citizens (not Conservatives, at least not yet. Maybe he will?). Target plans to spend $20 million adding single-stall, lockable bathrooms to all store locations after a controversy over a new policy that allows transgender people to use the restroom and fitting room that correspond with the gender they self-identify with.
“Across the board, our goal is to make sure that everyone feels welcome at Target,” Katie Boylan, Target’s vice president of communications, told The Daily Signal.
In April, Target announced the new transgender policy. Boylan said Target has openly listened to guest feedback since then.
“The feedback has been mixed,” Boylan said. Some guests have been very supportive of the bathroom policy, while others “less so,” she said.
In response to the bathroom policy, over 1.4 million people signed a pledge to boycott Target.
“We committed in the spring to making sure that every store across the country has a single-stall, lockable restroom for those who would like to use it,” Boylan said. The remodels in Target’s 1,800 store locations across the country have been under way since then, she said, and will cost $20 million.
The American Family Association, a nonprofit that supports Christian values, started the pledge in April to boycott Target.
“Target’s announcement that it is installing unisex bathrooms does nothing to address the objections of more than 1.4 million customers who are boycotting the retail giant,” Ed Vitagliano, executive vice president of the American Family Association, said in a statement to The Daily Signal. He added:
While AFA did suggest single-occupancy, unisex bathrooms as a way to help the retailer’s transgender customers, our major concern was that Target’s policy would grant voyeurs and sexual predators easier access to their victims by allowing men in women’s restrooms and changing areas, which puts women and girls in danger.
In July, a man who identifies as a woman videotaped an 18-year-old girl in an Idaho Target dressing room. Authorities arrested and charged the man, age 43, who told police that he previously made other videos of women undressing, Time reported.
“Unisex bathrooms are fine, but Target must maintain the gender-specific bathrooms as well—if the company is interested in guaranteeing the safety and privacy of women and girls who patronize the retailer’s stores,” Vitagliano said.
The $20 million investment does not change Target’s fitting room policy and accommodations.
“This partial backtracking proves what everyone already knew, that Target lost customers in droves after it announced that men would be allowed full access to women’s intimate facilities at its stores,” Roger Severino, director of the Devos Center for Religion and Civil Society at The Heritage Foundation, told The Daily Signal.
In the immediate two weeks following Target’s announcement of the policy, Target’s stock declined by 4.2 percent.
Target announced its second quarter earnings on Wednesday. Sales decreased by 7.2 percent from last year.
“We have no evidence that says the bathroom policy has had a material impact on our business at this time,” Boylan said.
The policy has had no impact on business in both the last financial quarter and this quarter, Boylan added.

The trickle of disturbing leaks about the Obama administration’s flawed and risky Iran policy continues to grow. The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday that “New details of the $400 million U.S. payment to Iran earlier this year depict a tightly scripted exchange specifically timed to the release of several American prisoners held in Iran.”
Although President Barack Obama’s White House persistently has denied that the cash transfer amounted to a ransom payment, a State Department spokesman admitted Thursday that the U.S. government delayed making the payment “to retain maximum leverage” over Iran.
This concession confirms widespread suspicions that the negotiations over the release of four Americans were at least tacitly, if not directly, linked to negotiations over the return of frozen Iranian money that had been paid to the United States before Iran’s 1979 revolution for military weapons.
When the administration announced in January that the hostages had been released, it also announced that it had agreed to pay Tehran $1.7 billion to settle a longstanding claim at the U.S.-Iran claims tribunal, which was set up under the 1981 Algiers Accords that resolved the first Iran hostage crisis. But the White House insisted that the payment was made as part of the agreement that resolved the 1979-1981 Iran hostage crisis, not the latest hostage deal.
The January hostage deal involved the release of four innocent Americans held on trumped-up charges in exchange for seven Iranians justifiably imprisoned or charged with sanctions violations and the dropping of criminal charges against another 14 Iranians arrested outside the United States for various offenses.
Such criminals-for-hostages swaps reward hostage taking and the deal was criticized for that reason when the hostages were released on Jan. 17, the day after the “Implementation Day” of the Iran nuclear agreement.
But subsequent revelations have put the prisoner exchange in an even worse light.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Aug. 3 that $400 million worth of cash was transferred to Iran on the same day the hostages were released, at the request of the Iranian officials involved in the hostage negotiations who “said they wanted the cash to show that they had gained something tangible.”
Senior Justice Department officials had objected to sending the cash at the same time as the hostage release, but their objections were overruled by the State Department.
Clearly, Iranian officials consider the cash payment to be a hostage ransom. The commander of the Basij, a volunteer force affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, gloated in January that the United States had bought the freedom of the American prisoners with the payment.
The Tehran regime has arrested at least six more foreign visitors since the payment was made in January, including Reza Shahini, a dual Iranian-American citizen, and Nizar Zakka, a Lebanese national with U.S. permanent residency.
Siamak Namazi, an Iranian-American businessman based in Dubai, was arrested in October while visiting a friend in Tehran.
Even more disturbing is the case of Robert Levinson, a retired FBI agent who disappeared in Iran in 2007. Levinson went missing after interviewing David Belfield, an American convert to Islam who fled to Iran after he assassinated an exiled Iranian opposition leader, Ali Akbar Tabatabai, in 1980 in Bethesda, Maryland.
Clearly, Tehran has concluded that crime does pay.
The Obama administration’s hostage deal is a dangerous precedent that puts more Americans at risk of being targeted by Iran and its terrorist surrogates to extract ransom payments in the future.

But with athletic success of such heights comes immense pressure. The athletes have talked about how God has remained central to their competing, reports CBN.
“I take my Bible with me, sometimes two of them, when I travel…I always pray at every competition, when the judge’s hand goes up I am praying, and there are little Scriptures I like to quote,” said star gymnast Gabby Douglas in her memoir “Grace, Gold and Glory: My Leap of Faith.” Another of the team, Simone Biles, talks openly about her Christian faith on twitter.
“God put you there. Be confident. Be humble,” she tweeted. As well as “If you’re praying about it, God is working on it.” Another of the team, Laurie Hernandez, uploaded this image to Instagram earlier this year.
Hernandez says that prayer often quells the pressure she feels before a performance. “Usually, before I salute the judge I’m able to just grab the event and I pray on it and that really grounds me. For some reason, once I do that, I am able to think clearly and I’m able to calm down right before I compete,” she said. Republican candidate for president Donald Trump turned heads when he asked the American people to give his opponent Hillary Clinton “the benefit of the doubt” regarding the major controversies of the Clinton Foundation, such as the alleged hypocrisy of receiving donations from countries like Saudi Arabia.
“We know that gays and lesbians in Saudi Arabia can get the death penalty … would you ever take money from a country that treats gays, lesbians, Jews and Christians that way?” Fox News host Sean Hannity asked Trump in a town hall that aired Wednesday evening.
“Well, you don’t want to do that, and if they knew about it that would be one thing, and I assume they knew about it, big league. But certainly they know about it now so maybe they can give the money back,” Trump said in response.

Trump, himself, has called for Clinton to return the donations in the past, criticizing her for her hypocrisy.
So why is he now undermining a message he should be hammering Hillary Clinton with by calling on others to give his opponent “the benefit of the doubt”?
The incestuous relationship between the Clinton Foundation, the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign, and Hillary Clinton’s time as Secretary of State at the State Department have been ripe for attacks from Republicans and the media.
Recent revelations from Hillary Clinton’s private email server showed that Clinton used her State Department to do favors for Clinton Foundation donors.
And as the Clintons’ tax returns revealed, Bill and Hillary Clinton have used the Clinton Foundation to give themselves kickbacks while pretending to donate to charity.
