Xi’s Military Parade Fans Unease in Region Already Wary of China

1200x-1 (1)As Xi Jinping presides over thousands of goose-stepping troops marching down Beijing’s Changan Avenue — or “Eternal Peace Street” — on Thursday, the Chinese president will also proclaim his commitment to the world’s peaceful development.

It’s a message China’s neighbors may find hard to swallow as it flexes its military muscle from the East China Sea to the Indian Ocean. The parade marking the 70th anniversary of World War II’s end — or “Victory of the Chinese People’s Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War” — will put on display much of what has frayed nerves throughout the region.

The first-of-its-kind victory celebration will show the world the military might Xi has put at the center of his Chinese Dream for national rejuvenation. The pageant will feature 12,000 soldiers, almost 200 of China’s latest aircraft and mobile ballistic missile launchers capable of delivering nuclear warheads to the continental U.S.

“There is a fairly crude signal to the international community that China is a modern power not to be trifled with,” said Rory Medcalf, head of the National Security College at the Australian National University in Canberra. “But this doesn’t sit well with the anxiety that already exists in the region.”

The parade offers Xi the first chance since taking power in 2012 to publicly present himself as China’s commander-in-chief. It’ll also give him a chance to distract attention from a slowing economy, a stock-market rout and the warehouse explosions in nearby Tianjin that killed at least 150 earlier this month. Wikileaks Founder Claims He’ll Be Killed by CIA Drone If He Leaves Embassy

Assange-601672The controversial Wikileaks founder is so fearful that someone will try to take his life that he no longer uses the property’s balcony, despite having had no fresh air or sunlight for THREE YEARS.

The Australian faces extradition to Sweden on sexual assault charges – which he denies – and has been living at the central London diplomatic residence since 2012, at a cost of £12million to UK taxpayers.

The reclusive figure fears he will ultimately be sent to the US where he could face the death penalty.

In an interview with The Times magazine, Mr Assange claimed it had become too dangerous to even poke his head out the embassy’s balcony doors . . .

He does worry that if he is ever free he could be kidnapped or even targeted by a CIA drone. (Read more from “Wikileaks Founder Claims He’ll Be Killed by CIA Drone If He Leaves Embassy” HERE)

Bill Clinton Sexual Harassment Accuser: Hillary ‘Wrote the Book on Terrorizing Women’

hil-face-1024x682Kathleen Willey, one of the women caught in the crossfire of alleged sexual harassment by former President Bill Clinton and what she characterizes as acts of intimidation to silence her, has taken issue with Hillary Clinton’s remarks last week comparing terrorists to Republicans engaged in a so-called war on women.

“This woman wrote the book on terrorizing women, on terrorism,” exclaimed Willey during an interview Sunday on Aaron Klein’s Investigative Radio program.

Continued Willey: “Her tactics and the things that she set in motion against all the women like me, the ones you have heard of and the ones you haven’t heard of, and the ones who are so scared that fled the country, are terrorist tactics like I’ve never seen before.” . . .

“This is a woman who is comparing the Republicans to terrorists?” Willey asked Klein. “Terrorists who behead women, who deface women, who burn women alive. And on and on and on and on?”

“And I can tell you, knowing what I know, and reading what I’ve read, and having talked to people, other women, who have been in the same boat that I have been in, basically in the crosshairs of the Clintons. The one difference between me and the poor women who are the victims of ISIS and all the other terrorist groups is that our heads are still attached. That’s the difference.” (Read more from “Bill Clinton Sexual Harassment Accuser: Hillary ‘Wrote the Book on Terrorizing Women'” HERE)

She Was Brutally Raped Multiple Times…Years Later, She Went to See Her Attacker for 1 Shocking Reason [+video]

08272015_Monika-Korra-Formal_Facebook-750x563A Norwegian woman who attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, recounts the story of how she was raped nearly six years ago.

Monika Kørra barely spoke English when she was granted a full scholarship to run cross-country at SMU. In December 2009 in the middle of her sophomore year, Kørra was walking with her girlfriends to another friend’s car after a party near the SMU campus – but she never got to the car.

“Before I knew it, I just had someone grabbing me from behind and I had a gun to my head,” Kørra said in an interview with WFAA . . .

After 90 minutes, the assailants dropped Kørra off at a field in South Dallas. Kørra began to cry once she realized she survived the attack. She was naked, afraid, and alone. Ultimately, a man came to her rescue, followed by law enforcement . . .

The Norwegian’s stolen cell phone led to the arrest of Arturo Arevalo, Alfonso Zuniga and Luis Zuniga. Arevalo and Alfonso Zuniga were sentenced to life in prison, while Luis Zuniga was sentenced to 25 years. Amazingly, Kørra is finding it in her heart to forgive her attackers.

“For me, forgiveness is not by any means becoming friends with them… it’s not about that,” she said. “It’s all about finding peace by letting go of all this, and that’s about me.” (Read more from “She Was Brutally Raped Multiple Times…Years Later, She Went to See Her Attacker for 1 Shocking Reason” HERE)

Legionnaires’ Disease in California Prison: Six Cases at San Quentin Prompts Safety Measures for 3,700 Inmates

rtx19kj8Officials at one of California’s most notoriously dangerous prisons Sunday sought to determine the source of a Legionnaires’ disease outbreak. There have been six confirmed cases of the severe respiratory illness at San Quentin State Prison, but none was fatal, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said in a statement.

Since discovering its first case Aug. 26, the prison placed approximately 51 inmates under observation for the respiratory illness. Confirmed cases have been treated at hospitals outside the prison while all unconfirmed cases were being treated at San Quentin’s on-site medical unit, officials said Sunday.

Legionnaires’ disease, a form of pneumonia, is caused by bacteria found in water systems such as cooling towers and is carried via steam, mist and moisture. The bacteria is inhaled and is not spread through human-to-human contact. The cases in California come a few weeks after official in New York City confirmed 12 deaths caused by the disease in the South Bronx, a city borough north of Manhattan.

At San Quentin, officials said they have limited water use at the prison “to eliminate the spread of the bacteria.” Portable shower units arrived at the prison Saturday, which prison personnel have distributed to allow in-cell bathing until normal water use resumes. Inmates also are being served boxed meals “to avoid exposure to steam and mist during cooking operations.” (Read more from “Legionnaires’ Disease in California Prison: Six Cases at San Quentin Prompts Safety Measures for 3,700 Inmates” HERE)

Suspect Named in ‘Execution-Style’ Killing of Texas Deputy

635764140350261810-Darren-GoforthBy Doug Stanglin and Marco della Cava. Harris County authorities in Texas have a man in custody in Friday’s shooting death of a sheriff’s deputy, Sheriff Ron Hickman said at a press conference Saturday. The suspect, Shannon J. Miles, has a previous criminal history including resisting arrest and disorderly conduct with a firearm. He is being charged with capital murder.

Hickman says the shooting was “unprovoked” and the department is still looking for a motive for the “cold-blooded assassination” of the officer at a Houston-area gas station.

Deputy Darren Goforth, 47, was fatally shot in the back late Friday while filling his patrol car in northwest Harris County. Hickman said ballistics tests showed a match between the weapon used to kill Goforth and a weapon in Miles’ possession.

Hickman, in discussing the shooting with reporters at an earlier press conference, condemned the “very dangerous national rhetoric” about police officers that he said was out of control.

Officials said Miles is the individual captured on surveillance video. He was apprehended, Hickman said, by locating the red Ford pick-up scene on the surveillance video, which was parked near where Miles resided. (Read more from “Suspect Named in ‘Execution-Style’ Killing of Texas Deputy” HERE)

Texas Deputy Killed While Fueling Patrol Car, Authorities Say

By Faith Karimi. A man shot a uniformed sheriff’s deputy “execution-style” while he fueled his patrol car in the Houston area, killing him instantly, authorities said.

Deputy Darren H. Goforth, 47, was returning to his car after pumping gas Friday night.

The gunman walked up from behind him and opened fire for no apparent reason, Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman said.

When Goforth fell to the ground, the gunman stood over him and shot him some more, authorities said. He died at the scene.

“He was literally gunned down in what appears to be an unprovoked, execution-style killing,” Hickman said. “I have been in law enforcement for 45 years, I have never seen anything this cold-blooded.” (Read more from this story HERE)

Greens: Obama Climate Legacy at Risk Over Arctic Drilling

obamaalaska_082715gettyPresident Obama will visit Alaska on Tuesday in the midst of a fight with environmental groups, who argue he is putting his climate legacy at risk by allowing Royal Dutch Shell to drill for oil in the Arctic waters off the state’s northern coast . . .

In the final quarter of his presidency, Obama intends to use the dramatic backdrop to highlight his administration’s efforts to combat global warming — an issue he’s looked to address through broad and controversial new regulations and international accords.

It’s a legacy Obama has done much to burnish in his second term, but one green groups argue will be jeopardized by the new Alaska drilling . . .

“President Obama is heading on a trip to Alaska to talk about climate change,” the group says on its website. “There is no clearer symbol of the self-defeating hypocrisy of his policies on energy and climate” . . .

“I know there are Americans who are concerned about oil companies drilling in environmentally sensitive waters. Some are also concerned with my administration’s decision to approve Shell’s application to drill a well off the Alaskan coast, using leases they purchased before I took office,” Obama said in his weekly address. Who is the Only GOP Candidate Working the Western States and Does He Really Have a Chance?

Barack ObamaPolling has been sparse or nonexistent in the states that will hold mid-March caucuses, despite the fact that they hosted some of 2008’s and 2012’s biggest upsets. President Obama’s campaign flooded Western caucuses to gain a delegate advantage that Hillary Clinton never overcame. Former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum won third place or worse first four contests after Iowa. He only became a threat to Mitt Romney after he took the Colorado and Minnesota caucuses.

Senator Rand Paul, who is currently polling in the low single digits, is hoping that sleepy front-runners and passionate local support will let him repeat history. Interviews with local Republicans suggested only a few campaigns had engaged so far. Only Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has an Alaska chairman. Only Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) has also campaigned in Wyoming. . . [But Paul] never drew less than 300 people to a speech [while campaigning in the West this week], and each one put him back in touch with Ron Paul superfans. Many wore shirts from the 2012 campaign, some of it home-made. . .

[Of concern to Senator Paul, many Ron Paul fans remain disgruntled by the last campaign. In 2012,] the RNC changed caucus rules so that the “beauty contests,” the events most people showed up for and covered, would decide the delegate counts. That decision alienated the liberty movement. It wasn’t enough that their party rejected them. The party had decided that Paul’s painstaking, grass-roots organizing was essentially illegitimate, and could never be repeated. . .

In Fairbanks [Senator Paul] was shuttled around in the black H1 Hummer of two-time U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller. . . Miller served as a living embodiment of what the establishment could do. He had won a 2010 Senate nomination, only to watch the GOP endorse a write-in campaign for Sen. Lisa Murkowski. He ran again in 2014, and nearly won a nomination again.

“Apathy is the problem here,” said Miller. “There’s been some structural crumbling of the Ron Paul movement — that’s probably the best way to put it. There’s a high degree of skepticism, about why you should vote at all, that is particularly pronounced in the interior of Alaska. What we need people to understand is that if we lose America, that’s it. We can’t let that happen. We have to participate.” (Read more from “Who is the Only GOP Candidate Working the Western States and Does He Really Have a Chance?” HERE)

Miley Cyrus Just Said That Donald Trump Called Her to Tell Her This…Unbelievable

Funny Image Miley Cyrus WallpapersShe’s nothing if not provocative — some would say profane. The former teen idol who got her big break on the Disney Channel, pop music sensation Miley Cyrus has just said something that may further roil the already agitated waters of presidential politics. And the candidate about whom Cyrus made the surprising comment is, himself, well known for stirring things up quite a bit.

In an interview with The New York Times, Cyrus reflected on the explosive reaction to her ‘twerking’ performance on the MTV Video Music Awards show a couple of years ago. The singer is getting ready to host the 2015 version of the MTV awards show.

The Times’ description of those few shocking moments on stage in 2013 notes that even MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski slammed Cyrus’ more-than-suggestive gyrations as “raunchy porn that’s disgusting and disturbing.”

“The last time Ms. Cyrus took the stage at the Video Music Awards, two years ago, she performed, tongue unleashed, with giant teddy bears (stepping out of one, into her new reality), a phallic foam finger and a pre-crash Robin Thicke [her partner in the twerking performance] — prompting a thousand think pieces about slut-shaming, racial appropriation for her use of black female dancers and the meaning of twerking,” according to the piece in The New York Times.

Buried in the Times article, as almost a throw-away tidbit, is the claim by Miley Cyrus that she got a surprise phone call the day after her daring display of “talent” on the MTV broadcast — a call from the man whose name was on the hotel where she was staying. Times reporter Joe Coscarelli quotes Cyrus as saying:

I was staying at the Trump Hotel and Donald Trump literally called and said, basically, “I know everyone’s talking about it, but I loved it.”

IDENTIFIED: The Exact Comments the Slain TV Reporter Used That Her On-Air Killer Found ‘Racist’

alisonparker-913x512The alleged killer of two WDBJ journalists, Alison Parker and Adam Ward, in Roanoke, Va., contended he was the victim of racism while working at the station. It is now known what he meant by “racism.”

Vester Lee Flanagan, who used the on-air name Bryce Williams, worked at WDBJ from March 2012 through February 2013 before being terminated and escorted out of the station by police. During his tenure, he accused employees of racism. According to The New York Post, the specific phrases used by Flanagan’s colleagues included “swinging” by an address and going out in the “field,” not uncommon terms for reporters to use.

“One was something about ‘swinging’ by some place; the other was out in the ‘field,’” said a Jan. 21 report by WDBJ assistant news director Greg Baldwin, referring to Parker as Alison Bailey (her middle name). No disciplinary action was taken against Parker, but Flanagan was still incensed by the remarks. He filed a discrimination lawsuit against the station in January 2013, one month before he was dismissed from WDBJ.

After allegedly committing the murder, the former journalist tweeted that Ward once reported him to human resources and that Parker reportedly made racist comments:

Adam went to [human resources] on me after working with me one time!!!

Alison made racist comments
