WATCH: Anti-Military Anthem Played at 'Concert for Valor'

military_3Who would have thought that that Bruce Springsteen, Dave Grohl, and Zac Brown, accomplished musicians all, would be so, well, tone-deaf? But how else to explain their choice of song—Creedence Clearwater’s famously anti-war anthem “Fortunate Son”—at the ostensibly pro-military “Concert for Valor” [during Veteran’s Day] on the National Mall?

The song, not to put too fine a point on it, is an anti-war screed, taking shots at “the red white and blue…”

Government Report Finds Rampant Nepotism At The DOJ

A new government investigation has uncovered rampant nepotism at a Justice Department agency, where senior officials routinely gave paid federal jobs to their children stretching back at least to 2005.

The investigation focused on three senior officials at the Executive Office for Immigration Review, a DOJ agency whose mission is to “to adjudicate immigration cases by fairly, expeditiously, and uniformly interpreting and administering the Nation’s immigration laws. Under delegated authority from the Attorney General, EOIR conducts immigration court proceedings, appellate reviews, and administrative hearings.”

The report not only implicated all three in hiring relatives for paid student positions, but found that “the practice of hiring relatives of employees into step positions in EOIR was widespread over a period of years. … Multiple EOIR officials told the OIG that hiring relatives for paid student positions was a standard practice or commonplace.”

“Juan and I chatted this morning, and concluded that we would place [his niece] on the board, as far from him as possible, and she is to be treated as just another student,” she emailed later that day — although Osuna denies that that part of the conversation occurred.

The same day Cromartie asked BIA chief clerk Donna Carr whether she’d hire Osuna’s niece, and she agreed, without ever having seen her resume or interviewing her. Osuna’s niece worked for the BIA full-time for six weeks that summer, and returned again the following year, before resigning in August 2009 to continue her studies in New York.

In a last-ditch effort to possibly help Sen. Mary Landrieu (D) win the run-off election in Louisiana, the Senate may possibly finally vote on approving the Keystone XL pipeline. This vote comes at the beginning of the lame-duck session of Congress following last Tuesday’s elections.

Bloomberg reports:

Senate Democrats are considering scheduling a vote in the lame-duck session to force approval of the Keystone XL pipeline, a party aide said, a move that may bolster Louisiana Democrat Mary Landrieu’s re-election battle.

The Senate Democratic aide, who requested anonymity to discuss the plans, said the vote was under consideration, yet specific language hadn’t been determined.

Steve Doocy sat down this morning with a Utah man who amazingly saved his stepdaughter from a kidnapper who had taken her from her bed in the middle of the night.

“There was a man in my home and he took my 5-year-old daughter,” the girl’s mother said in a chilling 911 call last Friday morning.

“And I happen to wake up and he had my daughter outside, and my husband ran out there and got her from him. But he took my 5-year-old daughter.”

It turns out the kidnapper had entered the Salt Lake City-area home through an unlocked door.

After handing the child over unharmed, the intruder fled the scene and was apprehended by police several blocks away.

Misdiagnosis or Divine Intervention? Baby Given No Hope to Live Born Completely Healthy

At a routine 10 week ultrasound, Ida Raymond was told something could be wrong with her baby. She and her husband, along with their one year old son, were sent immediately to a different hospital for further testing. But according to Right to Life Michigan, which shares the story on their website, the doctors there only delivered heartbreaking news.

Ida and her husband Andy were told that their daughter had severe deformities. The doctors told them point blank that they should do what was smart and responsible – abort their baby. Andy told RTL Michigan:

They told us it looked like her intestines were outside of her body, her spine had a hole in it, there were cysts around her brain and her brain was surrounded by fluid. They said her heart would not make it, her legs would never work and she might have Down syndrome.

They were devastated by the news and angry at the way the doctors had given them the diagnosis. Andy and Ida left that hospital never to return again. During a future visit with their regular obstetrician, it was discovered that the baby was actually developing quite normally. In fact, ultrasounds showed that baby Adeline’s intestines were not outside her body, there weren’t any cysts around her brain, and her legs were fine. While they thought Adeline could have Down syndrome, she was otherwise growing properly and was healthy.

Relieved, Andy and Ida spent the day of Adeline’s birth in eager anticipation and joy. She was born without a single health condition and even scored a 9 out of 10 on her Apgar tests. Ida told RTL Michigan that she worries about other parents receiving such a diagnosis who don’t have strong pro-life views or support from friends and family…

Mexican police wounded a pregnant US teenager when they opened fire on a vehicle that ignored orders to stop, authorities said Monday, in the latest episode of violence involving Mexico’s security forces.

Both the girl and the baby are out of danger, said prosecutors in the violence-plagued northeastern state of Tamaulipas, which borders the United States.

The girl and a friend were leaving a convenience store Sunday night near a bridge that links the Mexican border city of Reynosa and Pharr, Texas, when state police officers ordered their truck to stop.

Instead the driver sped away and police shot at the tires, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

When police reached the truck, the driver had disappeared and the girl was found with a stomach wound. The officers took her to a hospital.

Appreciation & Encouragement For Those Who Serve (+video)

Veterans Day is the day on which we thank and honor those who serve and have served in the military. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are 21.8 million military vets in the U.S. Over 1.3 million of those served during multiple wars–837,000 in both Gulf War eras, 211,000 in both the Korean War and Vietnam era and 147,000 in World War II and Korea. There were 49,500 who served in both the Vietnam War and both Gulf War eras and 54,000 who served during the Korean War, Vietnam War and World War II.

President Ronald Reagan understood the huge sacrifice those who serve make and one of his noteworthy speeches honoring military veterans took place on the 40th anniversary of D-Day. The ceremony took place on the northern coast of France, on the spot where Allied soldiers had stormed ashore to liberate Europe from the Nazis–at the site of the U.S. Ranger Monument at Pointe du Hoc.

Gathered together at this event were D-Day veterans and world leaders, including Queen Elizabeth II (UK), King Olav V (Norway), Queen Beatrix (The Netherlands), King Baudouin I (Belgium), Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau (Canada) and Grand Duke Jean (Luxembourg).

The following is an excerpt from that address:

We stand on a lonely, windswept point on the northern shore of France. The air is soft, but 40 years ago at this moment, the air was dense with smoke and the cries of men, and the air was filled with the crack of rifle fire and the roar of cannon. At dawn, on the morning of the 6th of June, 1944, 225 Rangers jumped off the British landing craft and ran to the bottom of these cliffs. Their mission was one of the most difficult and daring of the invasion: to climb these sheer and desolate cliffs and take out the enemy guns. The Allies had been told that some of the mightiest of these guns were here and they would be trained on the beaches to stop the Allied advance.

Lawsuit: Obama Immigration Officials Pressured Attorney To Overlook Illegal Alien DUIs And ID Theft

A career attorney with top ratings at Immigration and Customs Enforcement says that she faced retaliation from superiors for refusing to drop cases pending against illegal aliens guilty of DUI, identity theft, and other crimes.

Patricia Vroom, 59, made the claims in a lawsuit filed last week in U.S. District Court of Appeals in Arizona against Department of Homeland Security Sec. Jeh Johnson.

The Daily Caller obtained a copy of the complaint.

Vroom, who has worked for ICE and its predecessor for 26 years, alleges that in Feb. 2013 she was contacted by ICE deputy director Sarah Hartnett and was “instructed to look favorably for prosecutorial discretion on immigration removal cases involving the lowest level of felony convictions for identity theft under Arizona law.”

“This was a very significant development,” the suit claims. Criminal aliens are generally considered “‘priority cases’ that should be aggressively pursued.”

Gum-Chewing, Limo-Eschewing Obama Riles Some Chinese

Ahead of an economic summit in Beijing, billed as the biggest international event in the Chinese capital since the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, authorities demanded that residents brush up their typically brusque manners. The Communist Party launched a six-month campaign to make Beijingers behave in a more civilized fashion to welcome the world.

Turns out the rude one, in the eyes of some Chinese Internet users, was the most prominent guest.

Live television coverage on China’s top state-run channel Monday night showed the leaders of the 21 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member states arriving in iconic socialist limousines, along red-lit avenues, at the Water Cube, the Olympic swimming venue.

Obama eschewed the Red Flag limousine service that ferried other leaders one by one from a nearby building to a banquet, cultural show and fireworks at the aquatic venue. Some Chinese went online to criticize his preference for the familiar security of a U.S.-supplied vehicle, while others understood his choice, but what happened next surprised many here.
