TSA Grabs Dozens of Guns in October at U.S. Airports

Photo Credit: ReutersDozens of guns were confiscated in October from the carry-on bags of pistol-packing passengers trying to board planes at major U.S. airports.

Last month the Transportation Security Administration screeners found 181 firearms in carry-on bags at airport screening points around the country. A total of 157 were loaded and nearly a third of those had rounds chambered, according to the TSA Blog.

The October confiscations also included a 13-inch cane sword discovered at the airport in Charlotte.

The TSA Blog tallies the number of confiscated firearms each week. The blog also said screeners continue to find inert grenades and other weaponry on a weekly basis.

Pro-Common Core Math Instructor: Kids Are 'Clean Slate,' Parents Must Be 'Retrained' (+video)

Photo Credit: APThe frustration and confusion over the Common Core math curricula aligned with the nationalized standards has opened up the role of parent “instructional coach,” educators who are teaching not only students, but also parents, in the strange and non-instinctive ways of the nationalized math standards.

Lyndsey Layton at the Washington Post reports that elementary school parents, especially, are upset because the Common Core way of math leaves them unable to assist their children with homework. Throughout the country, school districts are holding special classes for parents and offering “homework hotlines” to help them understand Common Core math.

“The kids who come to us are a clean slate,” states Jennifer Patanella, an instructional coach with the Rochester, New York public schools who teaches parents in the strange ways of Common Core math. “It’s the adults who have to be retrained.”

“Almost every parent comes in and says, ‘This is not how I learned math,’” states Melissa Palermo, a fourth grade teacher who also now coaches other teachers in math in the Nathaniel Hawthorne public schools in Rochester.

Palermo is a proponent of the Common Core and says her students are reaping the benefits of being able to show a more sophisticated understanding of math and an ability to perform operations they would otherwise not have learned until they were older.

Palestinian Leader Says White House Insult of Netanyahu Reflects Obama's 'Sincere' Feelings

Photo Credit: WNDIn a radio interview set to air Sunday, a senior leader of Hamas asserts the anonymous White House officials referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “chickensh-t” reflect the Obama administration’s “sincere” feelings.

The interview with Salah Bardawil, senior Hamas leader and member of the Palestinian Parliament, airs Sunday night on “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio” on New York’s AM 970 The Answer.

A recording of the interview was obtained by WND.

Asked for his thoughts on the “chichensh*t” comments, the Hamas strongman told Klein, “It’s not a secret that Obama felt many times disappointed from Mr. Netanyahu. And it’s not a secret that Benjamin Netanyahu’s policy was not acceptable by the administration.”

Continued Bardawil: “The problem is that Obama, in spite of the fact that we feel that these feelings are sincere and true vis-à-vis Netanyahu, he ever translated these emotions against Netanyahu to actions on the ground in order to change the situation … which shows the decision making center is not exclusively in the hands of the president but in the hands of the whole American establishment that judges that Israel is in the strategic interests of the United States. This is why these declarations of the sources in the administration were not translated into changing the situation on the ground into pushing the situation forward but keeping the situation as it is.”

Romney Promises Immigration 'Reform' Will Pass if GOP Gains Controls of Senate Tomorrow (+video)

Photo Credit: YouTubeMitt Romney speculated today that a Republican-controlled Senate would mean passage of a conservative immigration reform bill focused on border security that President Obama would sign.

Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” Romney predicted that although Obama would move ahead with his own executive action on citizenship for illegal immigrants, Republicans would pass a bill in line with conservative priorities if the party wins control of the Senate in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

“You’re going to see a provision, first of all, to secure the border,” said Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee. “Second of all, to deal with those who come here illegally. And third, to make sure our immigration policies are more open and transparent.”
He added:

“That’s going to happen. You’re going to see a bill actually reach the desk of the president if we finally have someone besides Harry Reid sitting in the Senate [as majority leader]. So, we’re going to get it done.”

Virgin 'Ignored' Space Safety Warnings

Photo Credit: AFP / Josh EdelsonVirgin Galactic “ignored” repeated warnings in the years leading up to the deadly crash of its spacecraft in California, a rocket science safety expert said Sunday, as investigators hunted for clues to the accident.

Carolynne Campbell, a rocket propulsion expert with the Netherlands-based International Association for the Advancement of Space Safety, said she could not speculate on the cause of Friday’s crash without “all the data.”

However, she said multiple warnings about the spacecraft’s motor and the fuel used to power it had been issued to Virgin since 2007, when three engineers died testing a rocket on the ground.

“Based on the work we’ve done, including me writing a paper on the handling of nitrous oxide, we were concerned about what was going on at Virgin Galactic,” she told AFP.

“I sent copies of the paper to various people at Virgin Galactic in 2009, and they were ignored.”

Islamic State Group Kills 50 Iraqis

Photo Credit: APIslamic State group extremists lined up and shot dead at least 50 Iraqi men, women and children from the same tribe on Sunday, officials said, in the latest targeting of the group by militants.

The killings, all committed in public, raise the death toll suffered by the Sunni Al Bu Nimr tribe in recent days to some 150, suggesting IS fighters now view them as a threat. Some Sunnis in the volatile province had previously supported the local expansion of IS and other militants in December.

Meanwhile, separate attacks around Baghdad killed at least 19 people, authorities said.

Sunday’s attack on the Sunni tribe took place in the village of Ras al-Maa, north of Ramadi, the provincial capital. There, the militant group killed at least 40 men, six women and four children, lining them up and shooting them one by one, senior tribesman Sheikh Naim al-Gaoud told The Associated Press. The militants also kidnapped another 17 people, he said.

An official with the Anbar governor’s office corroborated the tribesman’s account. He spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to brief journalists.

West Urges Christian Voters to the Polls

Photo Credit: Jim JessBy Jim Jess.

Retired Lt. Col. Allen West, a former member of Congress, urged a crowd of voters at Marietta’s Roswell Street Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon to turn out to vote this week, and encouraged them to get their friends to the polls as well.

The meeting was organized by the Faith & Freedom Coalition of Georgia and Marietta-basedGeorgia Tea Party.
West, a former Florida congressman, told the crowd of 150 that if Christians did not defend their faith, they would lose their freedom to the onslaughts of secular humanists, who have an inaccurate understanding of religious freedom in the First Amendment.

West explained that separation of church and state does not mean that Christians must deny who they are or ignore their faith when considering public policy issues or candidates. He also said that Christians were lights to the world.

Rand Paul: ‘Dumb’ Focus on Voter ID Could Squander GOP’s ‘Huge Opportunity’ to Win Black Voters

By Josh Siegel.

Sen. Rand Paul today said it would be a “dumb idea” for Republicans to focus on voter ID laws because doing so would turn off black voters, whom the GOP has a “huge opportunity” to attract.

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” the Kentucky Republican and likely presidential candidate stressed that he supports requiring identification to vote in elections. But, he said, Republicans should avoid prioritizing the issue.

“It doesn’t mean that I think it’s unreasonable,” Paul said of conservatives’ efforts to tighten voting laws and rules to prevent voter fraud. “I just think it’s a dumb idea for Republicans to emphasize this and say, ‘This is how we are going to win the elections.’”

Paul’s remarks to host Chuck Todd recalled similar comments on voter ID laws that he made last spring in an interview with a reporter, drawing sharp criticism from some conservatives.

New York Times: Should Black And Hispanic Men Be Banned From Chatting Up White Feminist Women?

Photo Credit: Daily CallerBy now, you’ve probably seen the viral video in which the frumpy woman with the Flashdance hair walks around the streets of New York City getting catcalled.

The hidden-camera video was released last week by Hollaback, a group that bills itself as “an international movement to end street harassment.” The video documents the woman, 24-year-old actress Shoshana Roberts, walking the streets of New York for 10 hours as she claims to be the victim of some 100 instances of harassment.

Now, The New York Times wants to know if a law should shield white feminist women by preventing black and Hispanic men from speaking to them, and possibly offending their tender sensibilities.

“Should current laws dealing with harassment be strengthened to include catcalling, or will that go too far in trying to control speech and behavior?”

In the video, virtually every man who speaks to Roberts (with comments such as “How you doing today?”) is either black or Hispanic.

Obama 'AWOL'?: GOP Questions President's Role in Freeing Marine

Photo Credit: Fox News Republicans on Saturday welcomed the news of Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi being released from a Mexico prison and the efforts by GOP congressmen to help broker a deal but questioned whether the Obama administration did enough.

“President Obama still isn’t using all of the tools and levers that we have as the world’s lone super power, whether it is as simple as getting Sgt. Tahmooressi released from custody to defending our interests or protecting our allies in the Middle East,” Arkansas GOP Rep. Tom Cotton told Fox News.

Cotton, who is now running for Senate, wrote Obama asking him to intervene.

A Mexican judge on Friday ordered Tahmooressi’s immediate release, after he spent seven months behind bars for crossing the border with loaded guns.

The judge said Tahmooressi should be freed because of his mental state. But he did not make a determination on the illegal-arms charges against the Afghanistan veteran diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, according to a Mexican official who had knowledge of the ruling but was not authorized to give his name.
