Sources: Dozens of Former Gitmo Detainees Now Fighting With ISIS

As many as 20 to 30 former Guantanamo Bay detainees — some of whom were released within the last three years — are suspected by intelligence and Defense officials of having joined forces with the Islamic State and other militant groups inside Syria, Fox News has learned.

The development has cemented fears that the U.S. military would once again encounter militants taken off the battlefield.

The intelligence offers a mixed picture, and officials say the figures are not exact. But they are certain at least some of the released detainees are fighting with the Islamic State, or ISIS, on the ground inside Syria. Others are believed to be supporting Al Qaeda or the affiliated al-Nusra Front in Syria.

A number of former detainees also have chosen to help these groups from outside the country, financing operations and supporting their propaganda campaigns.

Sources who spoke to Fox News were not able to provide the identities of the fighters.

Ebola Can Live "For Weeks" in Arctic Environment

Photo Credit: Defense Science and Technology Laboratory [T]he UK’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) tested two particular filoviruses on a variety of surfaces.

These were the Lake Victoria marburgvirus (Marv), and Zaire ebolavirus (Zebov).

Each was placed into guinea pig tissue samples and tested for their ability to survive in different liquids and on different surfaces at different temperatures, over a 50-day period.

When stored at 4° (39°F), by day 26, viruses from three of the samples were successfully extracted; Zebov on the glass sample, and Marv on both glass and plastic.

By day 50, the only sample from which the virus could be recovered was the Zebov from tissue on glass.

‘This study has demonstrated that filoviruses are able to survive and remain infectious, for extended periods when suspended within liquid and dried onto surfaces,’ explained the researchers.

Photo Credit: Kevin Bennett ‘I don’t want her within three feet of anyone’ Governor threatens to arrest Ebola nurse after she defied quarantine to go for a bike ride and order pizza

By Martin Gould and Louise Boyle.

The Governor of Maine has threatened to arrest Nurse Kaci Hickox after she broke the state’s mandatory Ebola quarantine by saying: ‘I don’t want her within three feet of anyone.’

The 33-year-old, who tested negative for the deadly disease earlier this week, defied the guidelines by going on a bike ride with partner Ted Wilbur.

Later in the day, the pair also had a pepperoni and mushroom pizza delivered to their home in Fort Kent, Maine, before settling down to watch The Avengers film.

Her actions enraged Governor Paul LePage with lawyers from the state going to court to demand the nurse give a blood test.

‘This could be resolved today. She has been exposed and she’s not cooperative, so force her to take a test. It’s so simple’ he told ABC.

Photo Credit: APFearing Ebola? Doctors Say Get a Flu Shot

By LINDSEY TANNER.

Fever? Headache? Muscle aches? Forget about Ebola — chances are astronomically higher that you have the flu or some other common bug.

That message still hasn’t reached many Americans, judging from stories ER doctors and nurses swapped this week at a Chicago medical conference. Misinformed patients with Ebola-like symptoms can take up time and resources in busy emergency rooms, and doctors fear the problem may worsen when flu season ramps up.

That’s one reason why doctors say this year it’s especially important for patients to get their flu shots: Fewer flu cases could mean fewer Ebola false alarms.

“The whole system gets bogged down, even if it’s a false alarm,” Dr. Kristi Koenig said during a break at the American College of Emergency Physicians’ annual meeting.

Since the first Ebola diagnosis in the U.S., on Sept. 30 in a Liberian man treated in Dallas, doctors say they’ve had to reassure patients with many fears but none of the risk factors.

Again! Study Demands Warnings on Abortion-Breast Cancer Link

Photo Credit: WNDFor the second time in just months, a major study is ringing alarm bells not just about the connection between abortion and birth-control pills and breast cancer, one of the biggest killers of women in the U.S., but over the fact patients are not being adequately warned about the dangers they face in making those “choices.”

It was a study in the Linacre Quarterly by experts from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Catholic Social Services in Lincoln, Nebraska, the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington and the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill that said informed consent is becoming a major issue.

“Research studies document a compounding of breast cancer risk factors for girls and young women that underscores the duty for full and accurate informed consent,” the study states, citing the horrifying statistics that have been revealed.

“A history of abortion before 8 weeks gestation in women younger than 18 years (girls) increased the risk of breast cancer by 30 percent. However, if a pregnancy lasting more than 8 weeks was terminated when a girl was younger than 18 years, the risk increased 800 percent,” the study said.

And it gets even worse.

Brittany Maynard Won’t Kill Herself November 1: “Doesn’t Seem Like the Right Time Now”

Brittany Maynard has officially decided to delay her decision to kill herself under Oregon’s assisted suicide law on November 1. She says it “doesn’t seem like the right time now” to end her life.

Although cancer patients and pro-life groups have tried to talk her out of the decision, it now appears Maynard may have either been used by assisted suicide advocates to promote their agenda or may have been a part of a plan working in concert with them to attempt to legalize assisted suicide in additional states.

The 29-year-old terminally ill patient made nationally-discussed plans to take the lethal pill on November 1st to end her own life. After suffering from severe headaches, Brittany Maynard found out she had stage II glioblastoma multiforme and had up to ten years to live. However, after she had surgery, doctors found out that she had the most deadly form of brain cancer, stage IV glioblastoma multiforme. The cancer usually kills its victims in a matter of months.

After her diagnosis, Brittany decided that she wanted to move from her California home to Oregon so that she could have access to the “death with dignity” prescription. She had plans to die in her home surrounded by her mother, stepfather, husband and best friend.

But, now, Maynard has released a video saying she has reconsidered her decision and released a new video confirming her change of heart.

Hagel: ‘Climate Change Presents Security Issues for Us’ (+video)

Photo Credit: AP / Manuel Balce CenetaDefense Secretary Chuck Hagel expressed hope Wednesday that next week’s midterm election would deliver an outcome that enables Congress to “work together,” in order to deal with critical security issues, including “global warming.”

Hagel, speaking at the the Washington Ideas Forum, argued that climate change presents significant security challenges.

“From my perspective, within the portfolio that I have responsibility for – security of this country – climate change presents security issues for us.”

He cited as an example melting glaciers in the Arctic, saying that was having an effect on exploration for oil, natural gas and minerals.

“As the oceans increase it’ll affect our [military] bases, it’ll affect islands, it’ll affect security across the world,” he said. “So, just from my narrow perspective, what I have responsibility for, that’s happening now, and we have to be prepared for that.”

NAACP Requires Marchers Protesting North Carolina Voter ID Law TO SHOW PHOTO ID

Photo Credit: Daily CallerNorth Carolinians marching to protest voter-ID laws must present a valid photo ID to participate in an NAACP-hosted protest against voter-ID laws in Raleigh on Saturday.

The central claim among the protesters is that the voter-ID laws disenfranchise certain segments of the voting population, particularly minority voters and poor voters.

According to official NAACP flyers passed out at the rally, protesters must carry the precise kind of ID that they would be expected to present at the voting booth.

Cardinal Burke: Neither Bishops Nor Pope Can Change Christ's Teaching on Marriage

Photo Credit: APCan a pope change Catholic teaching on marriage?

When the synod of bishops that Pope Francis has called to discuss the family was meeting in Rome earlier this month, someone not particularly familiar with the Catholic faith might have presumed the answer was yes.

The synod, for example, released a midterm report with a section headed: “Positive aspects of civil unions and cohabitation.”

Yet the Catholic Catechism states: “The Lord Jesus insisted on the original intention of the Creator who willed that marriage be indissoluble.” The Catechism cites Chapter 10 of the Gospel of Mark as one source for this teaching.

“The Pharisees approached and asked, ‘Is it lawful for a husband to divorce his wife?’ They were testing him,” says the Gospel of Mark.

Pelosi: Obama Must Stop Deportations, Allow Entry to Millions More Illegal Immigrants

Photo Credit: Graeme Jennings / ExaminerBy SUSAN FERRECHIO.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called on President Obama to issue a “bold” executive order that would stop the deportation of millions of illegal immigrants, including farm workers, families of people allowed to remain in the country under the administration’s “Dream Act” policy, and many others.

In an op-ed published by Univisión, Pelosi, along with Reps. Zoe Lofgren and Luis Gutiérrez, called on Obama to legalize immigrants who would have benefited from a comprehensive immigration reform bill the U.S. Senate passed in 2013.

The trio of lawmakers said the president should go even further by permitting close relatives of citizens and lawful permanent residents to gain entry into the United States, and blocking the deportation of relatives who are here illegally.

“Doing so would not permit family members to skip the line, but it would allow them to wait in line with their family until a visa number becomes available,” the lawmakers wrote.

With less than a week to go before the pivotal midterm elections, Democrats are eager to bolster turnout among their base of Hispanic voters.

MOTHER OF MAN KILLED BY ILLEGAL: PRES ‘IGNORING US COMPLETELY’

By BREITBART TV.

Mary Ann Mendoza, whose son, Brandon, was killed by an illegal immigrant slammed President Obama for having “no concern” for her or the families of others who have lost their loved to ones to crimes committed by illegal immigrants on Wednesday’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto” on the Fox News Channel.

“There seems to be no concern for what we’re going through and the issues that we want to bring to him [Obama]. Thousands of us are waiting for at least an acknowledgment from him that he understands the pain that we are experiencing losing a loved one at the hands of repeat illegal criminals. He has taken the time to meet with them. He has addressed their issues, and he’s now doing something about it in this amnesty move that he’s going to make…

Fatah Calls for ‘Day of Rage’ in Jerusalem

Photo Credit: HotAirIn what was believed to have been an assassination attempt, the prominent American-born Israeli activist Yehuda Glick was shot in Jerusalem on Wednesday by a motorcycle gunman. Glick, a controversial figure due to his advocacy in favor of allowing Israeli Jews greater access the Temple Mount, was wounded in the attack. The gunman is believed to have been an Arab.

In the wake of this incident, some members of Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah faction issued praise for the would-be assassin.

Via Arutz Sheva:

Joining in on the praise of the assassination attempt was Sultan Abu Al-Einen, a member of the Fatah Central Committee and Abbas’s advisor on NGOs, who just last week praised the terrorist who murdered a three-month-old baby and 22-year-old woman in Jerusalem with his car as a “hero.”

“With great honor and pride…Fatah’s Jerusalem branch accompanies its heroic Martyr to his wedding (with “72 virgins” – ed.), Mu’taz Ibrahim Khalil Hijazi, who carried out the assassination attempt of Zionist rabbi Yehuda Glick,” wrote Al-Einen.

Israeli officials closed access to the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem following this attack. “Israel’s call to block access to the Temple Mount area of Jerusalem’s Old City—the first such closure since 1967—led the Palestinian government to call for armed resistance and accuse Israel of declaring war,” The Washington Free Beacon reported.

The New York Times' War on Gun-Owning Rape Victims

Photo Credit: TownHallNasty New York Times editorial writer David Firestone pretends to care about campaign scare-mongering. But what he and his elitist ilk really fear are independent-thinking women who have dared to exercise their First Amendment powers to defend their Second Amendment rights.

This week, Firestone took aim at “attack ads” sponsored by the National Rifle Association. The “worst commercial,” he says, “features a rape victim describing her assault and accusing” former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg “of wanting to take away her right to defend herself.”

That rape victim has a name and a story Firestone couldn’t even bother to mention. She is Kimberly Weeks, a brave and fierce Colorado woman who testified against the Bloomberg-backed gun-control measures that beleaguered Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper now admits he passed “without basic facts” and concedes were ineffective from the get-go.

Weeks was brutally raped as a college junior at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. As she recounted last year, “I will never know if I would have been able to stop my rape if I had owned a firearm. I can tell you that any fear I had of guns evaporated as soon as I got a second chance at living my life. Had I been armed, I very well could have changed my circumstances and possibly prevented another attack on myself or the next victim.”
