‘I Stared and Stared At My Son’: Mom Screamed for Abortion Workers to Call 911 after Baby Born Alive

In previous articles, Live Action has covered cases where babies born alive after abortions were denied medical care and allowed to die, or, in some cases, were killed by direct action. The recent trial of Kermit Gosnell shows that these incidents continue to occur. The sheer number of cases we know about leads one to wonder how often babies are born alive, but no one outside the abortion clinic ever knows.

In April of 2005, a pregnant woman named “Angele,” decided to abort her 22 week old unborn baby. She was in her 30s, divorced, and already had two children. She did not want a third child. She chose Orlando Women’s Center, also called EPOC Clinic operated by Dr. James Pendergraft. The abortion clinic’s website advertises “3 minute pain-free abortions.” The Orlando Women’s Center has published newspaper ads offering abortions up to 28 weeks.

Angele had named her baby Rowan. She chose a method of abortion that she hoped would cause the child a minimum of suffering – an injection of digoxin in the heart to kill him, rather than dismemberment by D&E.
The abortionist first had to insert laminaria, small sticks that expand inside the woman and dilate the cervix, making the abortion procedure easier. Before the insertion of laminaria, Angele was given a sedative. In her own words:

“The injection burned a lot as it went in. … The discomfort was distracting. I still felt the ‘lams’ as they were being inserted. Dr. Perper told me to relax my muscles and noted that my cervix was slightly soft. I asked him what that meant and he said it was good.”

Angele says the clinic workers discussed injecting the digoxin, but they never did. She described the doctor Harry Perper, MD, as “a very fast moving, hyperactive type of person.”

5 Takeaways From Top Obama Official Calling Netanyahu ‘A Chickens**t’

Photo Credit: Daily CallerIt’s probably safe to say that U.S.-Israel relations aren’t exactly at a high point.

In an article published Tuesday at The Atlantic by Jeffrey Goldberg, the Obama administration’s preferred conduit for all things Israel-related, an unnamed senior Obama administration official called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “a chickensh*t.”

“The thing about Bibi is, he’s a chickensh*t,” the official told Goldberg.

“The good thing about Netanyahu is that he’s scared to launch wars,” he continued. ““The bad thing about him is that he won’t do anything to reach an accommodation with the Palestinians or with the Sunni Arab states. The only thing he’s interested in is protecting himself from political defeat. He’s not [Yitzhak] Rabin, he’s not [Ariel] Sharon, he’s certainly no [Menachem] Begin. He’s got no guts.”

State Department Plans to Bring Foreign Ebola Patients to U.S.

Photo Credit: AP / LM OteroBy Stephen Dinan.

The State Department has quietly made plans to bring Ebola-infected doctors and medical aides to the U.S. for treatment, according to an internal department document that argued the only way to get other countries to send medical teams to West Africa is to promise that the U.S. will be the world’s medical backstop.

Some countries “are implicitly or explicitly waiting for medevac assurances” before they will agree to send their own medical teams to join U.S. and U.N. aid workers on the ground, the State Department argues in the undated four-page memo, which was reviewed by The Washington Times.

“The United States needs to show leadership and act as we are asking others to act by admitting certain non-citizens into the country for medical treatment for Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) during the Ebola crisis,” says the four-page memo, which lists as its author Robert Sorenson, deputy director of the office of international health and biodefense.

More than 10,000 people have become infected with Ebola in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, and the U.S. has taken a lead role in arguing that the outbreak must be stopped in West Africa. President Obama has committed thousands of U.S. troops and has deployed American medical personnel, but other countries have been slow to follow.

Photo Credit: Tanya Bindra / AP The Grim Future if Ebola Goes Global

By MARYN MCKENNA.

If you listened hard over the weekend to the chatter around the political theater of detaining a nurse returning from the Ebola zone in a tent with no heat or running water, you might have heard a larger concern expressed. It was this: What happens if this kind of punitive detention — which went far beyond what medical authorities recommend — deters aid workers from going to West Africa to help?

As a reminder, the African Ebola epidemic is still roaring in three countries; two others have contained the disease, but it has now leaked to a sixth, Mali. The case count is 10,141, with 4,922 deaths. Last month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that if the epidemic continued on its current course, cases would hit 1.4 million by next January. Last week, Yale researchers said in the journal Lancet Infectious Diseases that even current promises of international aidwill not contain the epidemic — so the volunteering of medical personnel such as that nurse becomes even more important.

But what if, because of this weekend’s events, volunteers are discouraged from going to West Africa, for fear of how they will be received on return? Or what if they do go, and their efforts are still not enough?

I wanted to be sure I wasn’t over-imagining what might happen next with Ebola, if it is not contained at its source now. For a fact-check, I turned to Jody Lanard and Peter Sandman, two risk-communication experts who have been involved in most of the big epidemic threats of the past decades. (I met them, I think, in the first run-up of concern over H5N1 avian flu in 2003.)

Australia bans travel from Ebola-hit countries; U.S. isolates troops

By Michelle Nichols and Umaru Fofana.

Australia became the first developed country on Tuesday to shut its borders to citizens of the countries worst-hit by the West African Ebola outbreak, a move those states said stigmatized healthy people and would make it harder to fight the disease.

Australia’s ban on visas for citizens of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea followed decisions by the U.S. military to quarantine soldiers returning from an Ebola response mission and some U.S. states to isolate aid workers. The United Nations said such measures could discourage vital relief work, making it harder to stop the spread of the deadly virus.

“Anything that will dissuade foreign trained personnel from coming here to West Africa and joining us on the frontline to fight the fight would be very, very unfortunate,” Anthony Banbury, head of the U.N. Ebola Emergency Response Mission (UNMEER), told Reuters in the Ghanaian capital Accra.

Report: 71 Percent of this State's Job Growth Since 2000 Has Gone to Immigrants Over Americans

Photo Credit: AFPA whopping 71% of new jobs in New Hampshire since 2000 have gone to foreign immigrant workers—both those who are here illegally and legally—a new report from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) found.

“Job growth in New Hampshire has not been very strong,” Steven Camarota, CIS’s research director and the report’s co-author, said in a statement accompanying its release. “The situation for natives without a college education has been particular bad. Thus, it is surprising that many of New Hampshire’s politicians supported the Gang of Eight bill, which would give work authorization to illegal immigrants and dramatically increase the number of foreign workers allowed into the country in the future.”

One particular politician in the state who supported the “Gang of Eight” bill, which would have hurt even more New Hampshire jobs than current immigration policy does, is incumbent Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH). Shaheen voted for the immigration bill and regularly defends it on the campaign trail, despite the fact that the data that CIS found shows New Hampshire’s citizens are struggling, and illegal and legal immigrants are taking many of the state’s new jobs.

The study, which relies on government data from entities such as the U.S. Census Bureau, found that through 2000 to the first half of 2014, immigrants both legal and illegal took 21,000 new jobs in New Hampshire. Meanwhile, during the same time frame, native-born U.S. citizens in New Hampshire got only 8,700 new jobs.

But despite the 71% increase in jobs to foreign workers in the state, the percentage of U.S. citizens born in New Hampshire during that time frame increased 65%—something CIS says is “striking.”

Pro-GOP Chicago Pastor Gets Death Threats, Church Collection Box Robbed

Photo Credit: FoxA black Chicago pastor is speaking out about death threats he has received after publicly supporting the Republican candidate for governor.

The harassment didn’t end there. This weekend, nearly $8,000 was stolen from New Beginnings Church’s collection box.

Corey Brooks told Steve Doocy this morning that the box had been there for six months, with members putting in change and small amounts.

The money was going to go toward the construction of a community center on the South Side.

“The young people have nowhere to go. They have nowhere to express or enhance their lives. … Our church has been working diligently to raise funds. We haven’t depended on the government to give us anything,” said Brooks.

Second Parent: My Child Got Nation of Islam Paper, Too

Photo Credit: Sommer BauerA second parent has now come forward acknowledging their child received a Nation of Islam “handout” in a third grade class at Harold McCormick Elementary School in Elizabethton, Tennessee – contradicting claims by the school district that the document was not distributed in the classroom.

I first told you about this story on Monday. Parent Sommer Bauer told me her son’s teacher gave him a document that portrayed the presidents on Mount Rushmore as being racists.

We still don’t know how that Nation of Islam information found its way into that third grade classroom.

School superintendent E.C. Alexander refuted allegations that the Nation of Islam document had been distributed in class. He told me the document was never meant for public distribution and that the child took the sheet of paper from the teacher’s work station without her permission.

“The student (without permission) took the sheet from a “ton” of discarded teacher’s material on that table; then, the student took it home and gave it to the parent,” Alexander wrote in an email to educators after my column was published.

Victory: Court Rules Obama Admin Can’t Force Catholic College to Obey HHS Mandate

Photo Credit: LifeNewsIn another legal victory against the HHS mandate, a court has ruled a Catholic college doesn’t have to obey the mandate, which compels it to pay for abortion-causing drugs for its employees.

A federal court issued a decision Tuesday in Ave Maria School of Law v. Sebelius that stops enforcement of the Obama administration’s abortion pill mandate against Ave Maria School of Law, a Catholic law school.

Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Legal Counsel Matt Bowmantold LifeNews: “Faith-based educational institutions should be free to live and operate according to the faith they teach and espouse. The court was right to uphold the religious freedom of institutions that value the sanctity of life. If the government can force Ave Maria School of Law to violate its faith in order to exist, then the government can do the same or worse to others.”

The lawsuit challenges the constitutionality of the administration’s mandate that religious employers provide insurance coverage for abortifacients, sterilization, and contraception to employees regardless of religious or moral objections.

Facing millions of dollars of fines that would have taken effect this weekend, Ave Maria University stood up against the government and won an injunction this morning protecting its right to stay true to its beliefs. This is the first order enjoining the government’s latest attempt to coerce religious organizations via an “augmented rule” that it issued last August.

Citing Terrorism Concerns, DHS Beefs Up Security At Federal Government Buildings

Photo Credit: TownHallLate Tuesday afternoon the Department of Homeland Security announced security will be beefed up at federal government buildings across the country, citing terror concerns and recent attacks in Canada for the increase. The following statement was released by DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson:

Today I am announcing that I have directed the Federal Protective Service to enhance its presence and security at various U.S. Government buildings in Washington DC and other major cities and locations around the country. The precise actions we are taking and the precise locations at which we will enhance security is law-enforcement sensitive, will vary and shift from location to location, and will be continually re-evaluated.

The Federal Protective Service is responsible for the protection of over 9500 federal facilities owned or leased by the General Services Administration, through which 1.4 million visitors and occupants pass daily.

Alaska Makes Top Five for Business Tax Climate

Executive Summary

The Tax Foundation’s State Business Tax Climate Index enables business leaders, government policymakers, and taxpayers to gauge how their states’ tax systems compare. While there are many ways to show how much is collected in taxes by state governments, the Index is designed to show how well states structure their tax systems, and provides a road-map to improving these structures.

The 10 best states in this year’s Index are:

1. Wyoming
2. South Dakota
3. Nevada
4. Alaska
5. Florida
6. Montana
7. New Hampshire
8. Indiana
9. Utah
10. Texas

The absence of a major tax is a common factor among many of the top ten states. Property taxes and unemployment insurance taxes are levied in every state, but there are several states that do without one or more of the major taxes: the corporate tax, the individual income tax, or the sales tax. Wyoming, Nevada, and South Dakota have no corporate or individual income tax; Alaska has no individual income or state-level sales tax; Florida has no individual income tax; and New Hampshire and Montana have no sales tax.

But this does not mean that a state cannot rank in the top ten while still levying all the major taxes. Indiana and Utah, for example, have all the major tax types, but levy them with low rates on broad bases.

Houston Mayor Has Received Bibles From All Over the Country

Photo Credit: NewscomHouston Mayor Annise Parker received a surprise after her order to subpoena the sermons of pastors.

Bibles have been sent to her office from all over the country, according to Houston’s KHOU.

On Monday, a spokesperson for the mayor’s office told Houston’s KPRC “that somewhere between 500 and 1,000 Bibles” had been delivered.

As The Daily Signal previously reported, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee used his show on Fox News to call for Americans to send Parker Bibles.

“I would like to ask every pastor in America, send her your sermons,” said Huckabee. “Everybody watching the show ought to send her a Bible.”
