WATCH: Huckabee Calls for Pastors to Flood Houston Mayor With Sermons

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee wants the nation’s pastors to send Bibles and copies of all of their sermons to Houston Mayor Annise Parker, who has issued a broad subpoena demanding the city’s pastors hand over copies of their sermons and communications concerning the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance.

“I hope she gets thousands and thousands of sermons and Bibles,” said Huckabee, who is an ordained Southern Baptist minister, on his Fox News show Saturday.

“It ought to make you mad that the mayor thinks she can turn in her pastors,” the Republican said. “And so I got an idea. If she wants a sermon, here is my suggestion. I would like to ask every pastor in America, not only the ones in Houston, to send her your sermons and go ahead. Obviously she could use a few. And everybody watching the show ought to send her a Bible.”

Houston’s city attorneys initially issued the subpoenas in September when people who opposed the city’s equal rights ordinance were trying to force a repeal referendum on the ordinance, which grants certain rights to transgendered people, reports the Houston Chronicle.

Obama's New Civil Rights Division Head Wants to Decriminalize Possession of All Drugs

No, it’s not your teenage nephew. It’s President Obama’s new acting head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, Vanita Gupta. In 2012, Gupta wrote that “states should decriminalize simple possession of all drugs, particularly marijuana, and for small amounts of other drugs.” (Emphasis mine).

Last week, President Obama appointed Vanita Gupta to the position of acting head. According to the Washington Post, the administration plans to nominate her in the next few months to become the permanent assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division. Her views on sentencing reform–a bi-partisan effort in recent years–have earned her qualified kudos from some conservatives.

But her radical views on drug policy–including her opinion that states should decriminalize possession of alldrugs (cocaine, heroin, LSD, ecstasy, marijuana etc.) should damper that support of those conservatives, and raise serious concerns on Capitol Hill.

As the deputy legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union and the director of its Center for Justice, Gupta’s legal and policy positions are well documented in her long paper trail, which, no doubt, will be closely scrutinized if and when she is nominated and gets a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Canadian PM Calls 'Brutal and Violent' Parliament Attack Terrorism, While Our President Can't Bring Himself to Utter the Word

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper described the perpetrator of a “brutal and violent” attack on the Parliament complex in Ottawa that left a soldier dead Wednesday as a “terrorist” in an address to the nation.

“We will not be intimidated. Canada will never be intimidated,” Harper said before vowing that the attack would “lead us to strengthen our resolve and redouble our efforts” to keep the country safe and work with Canada’s allies to fight terrorists.

The assault rocked Parliament over and over with the boom of gunfire, led MPs to barricade doors with chairs and sent people streaming from the building in fear. Harper was addressing a caucus when the attack began outside the door, but he safely escaped. He gave his address Wednesday evening from an undisclosed location.

Earlier Wednesday, Canadian authorities identified the shooter as Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, 32. A government official told Fox News that they have been advised that Zehaf-Bibeau, a Quebec native, was thought to be a recent convert to Islam who had changed his name from Michael Joseph Hall. Investigators offered little additional information about the gunman. However, Harper said in his address that “in the days to come we will learn about the terrorist and any accomplices he may have had.”

Court records that appear to be the gunman’s show that he had a long rap sheet, with a string of convictions for assault, robbery, drug and weapons offenses, and other crimes.

Good News: Tens of Thousands of Federal Workers Are Being Paid to Sit at Home

Tens of thousands of federal workers are being kept on paid leave for at least a month — and often for longer stretches that can reach a year or more — while they wait to be punished for misbehavior or cleared and allowed to return to work, government records show. During a three-year period that ended last fall, more than 57,000 employees were sent home for a month or longer. The tab for these workers exceeded $775 million in salary alone. The extensive use of so-called administrative leave continues despite government personnel rules that limit paid leave for employees facing discipline to “rare circumstances” in which the employee is considered a threat. The long-standing rules were written in an effort to curb waste and deal quickly with workers accused of misconduct. And the comptroller general, the top federal official responsible for auditing government finances and practices, has repeatedly ruled that federal workers should not be sidelined for long periods for any reason.

White House Covers Up Obama’s Unpaid Bills

The White House censored the Monday night transcript of Obama’s speech at a Chicago fundraiser to hide his confession of unpaid bills.

The pool reporter at the event, however, included a mention of the statement in her initial Monday night report, and then highlighted the censored passage in a late-night email to reporters.

But the White House pushed back Tuesday morning by issuing an edited transcript that claimed the embarrassing statement was inaudible.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest also staked his credibility on the incredible claim. “I can tell you there was a problem with the recording of the event,” he told reporters at the Oct. 21 daily press conference.

WH Lied About Releasing Illegal Immigrants Charged With Violent Crimes

The plan was to make the “consequences” of sequestration as unavoidable and unpalatable as possible — deliberately at the expense of responsible, priorities-oriented governance. The White House’s cynical ploy faltered, as they failed to fool most Americans, and as fact-checkers took them to task for their intentional, endless mendacity. The sequester went into effect, and the earth did not implode. But don’t say they didn’t try. Team Obama was earnestly committed to hurting as many people as possible as a means of turning voters against the concept of fiscal responsibility. One of their most reckless gambits over the course of their calculated ‘parade of horribles’ was the mass release of hundreds of illegal immigrants being detained for various reasons. The federal government couldn’t afford to hold them any longer, we were informed at the time, thanks to those “draconian” budget cuts:

Federal immigration officials have released hundreds of detainees from detention centers around the country in recent days in a highly unusual effort to save money as automatic budget cuts loom in Washington, officials said Tuesday. The government has not dropped the deportation cases against the immigrants, however. The detainees have been freed on supervised release while their cases continue in court, officials said. But the decision angered many Republicans, including Representative Robert W. Goodlatte of Virginia, who said the releases were a political gambit by the Obama administration that undermined the continuing negotiations over comprehensive immigration reform and jeopardized public safety…A spokeswoman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, an arm of the Department of Homeland Security, said the detainees selected for release were “noncriminals and other low-risk offenders who do not have serious criminal histories.” Officials said the releases, which began last week and continued on Tuesday, were a response to the possibility of automatic governmentwide budget cuts, known as sequestration, which are scheduled to take effect on Friday.

We’re not endangering public safety, the administration insisted. We’re only releasing non-violent illegal immigrant detainees. And we’re doing it because of these tiny budget cuts, Congress. So take the hint, and cancel the cuts. (Lord knows there wasn’t any federal fat to trim that didn’t involve flinging open jail doors). The Moment When a Guy Told Obama ‘Don’t Touch My Girlfriend’ (+video)

As he was casting his ballot early in Chicago, minding his own business behind the voting booth, a young man walked by and warned him “don’t touch my girlfriend.”

The girlfriend, Aia Cooper, who was voting in the booth next to Obama, was humiliated, to say the least. “I really wasn’t planning on it,” Obama joked with the woman. “There’s an example of a brother just embarrassing you, just for no reason whatsoever.”

“And now you’ll be going back home and talking to you friends; what’s his name?” the president asked.
“Mike,” Cooper said.

“‘I can’t believe Mike. He’s such a fool,’” Obama said, impersonating the woman

Woman Exposes Father With Concealed Carry Permit Using Yard Signs

A sign posted in a front yard brings an interesting debate. At the center of it, your constitutional rights. In the past few weeks there’s been a number of stories involving guns on school property in Olmsted County. The issue Friday is a gun near school property and the way one woman is voicing her concern.

Matthew Halleck brings his two girls to and from the outskirts of Harriet Bishop Elementary in Rochester every day. “I’m going to protect my children anyway I can,” said Halleck.

For Matthew, that means carrying a concealed gun that he has a permit for, while adhering to all legal boundaries. “It’s not crossing the street here, where the crosswalk is, it’s making sure it’s concealed so the kids can’t see it,” he said.

But Matthew is no longer the only one who knows he’s carrying a gun. Recently a sign went up in a front yard across the street from the school. It has Matthew’s picture on it and reads, “This man carries a loaded gun around your children every day.”

“Since we don’t have a way to stop him, we felt it was important to notify the neighborhood and the parents that there is an armed man in their presence,” said Kimberly Edson, a Rochester resident who put the sign up. “The first couple days of school he had it very visible, we saw it and were quite concerned,” she said.

Goliath Encounter: Puppy-Sized Spider Surprises Scientist in Rainforest

Photo Credit: Piotr Naskrecki Piotr Naskrecki was taking a nighttime walk in a rainforest in Guyana, when he heard rustling as if something were creeping underfoot. When he turned on his flashlight, he expected to see a small mammal, such as a possum or a rat.

“When I turned on the light, I couldn’t quite understand what I was seeing,” said Naskrecki, an entomologist and photographer at Harvard University’s Museum of Comparative Zoology.

A moment later, he realized he was looking not at a brown, furry mammal, but an enormous, puppy-size spider.

Known as the South American Goliath birdeater (Theraphosa blondi), the colossal arachnid is the world’s largest spider, according to Guinness World Records. Itsleg span can reach up to a foot (30 centimeters), or about the size of “a child’s forearm,” with a body the size of “a large fist,” Naskrecki told Live Science. And the spider can weigh more than 6 oz. (170 grams) — about as much as a young puppy, the scientist wrote on his blog. [See Photos of the Goliath Birdeater Spider]

Some sources say the giant huntsman spider, which has a larger leg span, is bigger than the birdeater. But the huntsman is much more delicate than the hefty birdeater — comparing the two would be “like comparing a giraffe to an elephant,” Naskrecki said.

NYPD: Hatchet Attack on Cops Was a Lone Wolf "Act of Terror"

A man who assaulted a group of NYPD officers with a hatchet before they shot him dead committed “an act of terror,” the city’s top cop said Friday.

“We at this time believe that he acted alone,” Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said Friday. “We would describe him as self-radicalized. We would describe him as self-directed in his activities.”

Asked directly if Zale Thompson could be considered a homegrown terrorist or a “lone wolf,” investigators said “it appears at this point” that terror was the suspect’s “intent,” though police stressed the investigation was in its preliminary stages.

Police obtained a warrant to search Thompson’s computer for clues about Thursday’s daytime assault in Queens, which left Officer Kenneth Healy with a critical but stable head injury and Officer Joseph Meeker with a wounded arm.

Thompson’s activity on social media indicated he was a convert to Islam and included rants about injustices in American society and oppression abroad but offered no clear evidence of any direct affiliation with terror groups, police said.

Citizen Jihadists: ISIS uses ‘lone wolves’ to mount cheap, effective attacks on US soil

Al Qaeda spent less than $1 million on its signature 9/11 attack, but Islamic State has found an even more cost-effective way to strike on American soil – inspiring psychotic sympathizers to commit “lone wolf” attacks that blur the line between random crime and terrorism, say experts.

Grisly photos and video of severed heads and mutilated bodies tweeted out and posted on the Internet, combined with explicit calls to kill, have allowed Islamic State to turn American citizens into weapons, say experts. The new technique requires no infiltration by sleeper cells and no planning, coordination or logistics. Yet, it is proving extremely effective at spreading fear, they say.

“If you can kill a disbelieving American or European, especially the spiteful and filthy French, or an Australian, or a Canadian, or any other disbeliever, then rely upon Allah and kill him in any manner or way however it may be,” urged a speaker on a video Islamic State released last month.

A law enforcement bulletin obtained last month by FoxNews.com warned that Islamic State fighters have increased calls for “lone wolves” to attack U.S. soldiers in America.

“You could literally search for soldiers, find their town, photos of them, look for address in Yellowbook or something,” a tweet attributed to Islamic State read. “Then show up and slaughter them.”

ISIS Invasion Traps Iraqi Christians in Their Own Country

“We tried very hard, very hard to raise the banner. The world remained silent. Now the devastation is a gradual death.”

The voice of Juliana Taimoorazy, Founder and President of Iraqi Christian Relief Council, clears the clack-clack of roadway background noise. She is driving home from yet another conference concerning the suffering of her fellow Christians in Iraq.1 Yesterday, she met in D.C. with world leaders of the persecuted Yazidis, another Iraqi religious minority.

“The majority of death that happened in the Christian community was [around] 2005,” continues Taimoorazy, referring to earlier mass murder. Now at least one quarter of Iraq’s Christian population, offered only the options to convert or die, have fled to Iraq’s Kurdish north where they are crammed into schools and churches, sleeping in pews and courtyards. They own absolutely nothing. And the northern Kurdish government has just ordered all convents and schools to empty so school can begin. “The winter is upon them,” Taimoorazy explains, “The time aid gets to our people, they are dying…devastated. This is a human tragedy.”

Massacre is nothing new to Assyrian Christians. As a native but historically non-Arab community, they have always faced periodic persecution, especially after the rise of Islam. During the last decade, however, such genocide has garnered a new synonym—eradication. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria’s (ISIS) invasion of Iraq yanked loose the last Jenga block. Since it declared a Middle Eastern caliphate in June, ISIS has militarily claimed its nation city-by-city, imposing sharia law and driving Christians into the ever-shrinking shelter of northern Iraq and Syria. In the key town of Mosul, recently captured by ISIS forces, only forty Christians remain of the city’s original eight to ten thousand. In the words of Dr. Gary Burg, Professor of New Testament and Middle Eastern journalist for the Huffington Post, “We survived Genghis Khan,” Iraqi Christians declare, “but we’re not sure we can survive this.”
