Valley Favors Miller in primary

miller-joe-Alaska-photo-3-2jpgBy Andrew Wellner.

After reviewing last week’s primary election numbers, a few things seem clear — the Valley supports the current oil tax structure and voters here love Joe Miller.

Vote totals aren’t yet official and might still change slightly. The Alaska Division of Elections plans to count the early ballots cast between Aug. 16 and Election Day today, then count absentee and questioned ballots until Sept. 2, after which the election will need to be officially certified.

Miller, the eventual second-place finisher in the Republican primary race for the U.S. Senate seat that Mark Begich currently holds, took every Mat-Su district from Butte to Talkeetna to Chickaloon. Percentage-wise, he walked away with 41 percent of the vote. His nearest competitor in Mat-Su — the eventual statewide winner, Dan Sullivan — took just 35 percent. The third major contender, Mead Treadwell, garnered 22 percent. An additional 2 percent went to John Jaramillo.

Miller performed similarly well in Mat-Su the last time he ran for Senate, an election in which he first bested Lisa Murkowski in the Republican primary then lost to her write-in campaign in the general.

As for oil taxes, Mat-Su voters preferred the current regime, with 61 percent voting against its repeal. Every single district voted that way.

Tea Party candidate favored in Homer

By Naomi Klouda.

One surprise in the primary election results showed Joe Miller as the favored Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Homer, as well as all other District 31 precincts including Ninilchik, Kasilof and Anchor River.

Miller’s 1,332 votes topped Dan Sullivan’s 948, with Mead Treadwell a distant third at 586. Incumbent Sen. Mark Begich topped all of them in the district results, with 1,430 votes.

Statewide, the No vote, to rescind SB21, was winning after primary election day, 79,980 to 73,184. Even with more than 21,000 outstanding ballots to count, the Vote No camp declared victory.

Miller also conceded to Republican Dan Sullivan, though their spread of difference was just under 7,000 statewide, according to the tally immediately following the primary.

Miller’s campaign director, Randy DeSoto, said Miller made several visits to Homer during his campaign, beginning early in the spring. The Homer/Anchor Point area also had a strong army of volunteers who worked hard, he said.

Why It Makes Sense for Burger King to Become a Canadian Company

Photo Credit: Mike Mozart / Creative Commons

How many iconic American companies have to leave or threaten to leave these shores for foreign lands before Washington acts to fix our anti-growth tax system and keep firms, profits, and jobs here in the U.S.?

Burger King became the latest Fortune 100 company to announce it is looking to leave. The company is considering a deal to merge with Canadian restaurant chain Tim Hortons and move its headquarters north across the border. The multi-billion dollar deal would make the $11.4 billion hamburger company now based in Miami a Canadian firm valued at more than $21 billion. The technical term for this transaction is an “inversion.”

Why is it happening? The combined federal and state corporate income tax rate in Florida is 38.6 percent, near the highest in the world and more than a third higher than the combined national and provincial rate of 28.0 percent in Ontario, Canada. This is costing American workers jobs and the U.S. capital investment.

WATCH: Obama’s Speech To The American Legion Was Painfully Awkward

It wasn’t exactly the roaring, adoring, campaign-style crowd President Barack Obama is accustomed to.

On Tuesday, the president spoke to the American Legion’s national convention, facing a crowd of veterans deeply concerned about widespread corruption at the Veterans Administration and the resultant deaths of some veterans awaiting health care.

So when Obama began by lecturing the veterans about cynicism and explaining his most recent foreign policy choices — instead of addressing the VA crisis — the audience clearly wasn’t pleased.

Former acting director of cyber security for the Department of Health and Human Services Timothy DeFoggi was convicted for a myriad of gruesome child pornography charges Tuesday, the Department of Justice announced.

DeFoggi, who had top security clearance in his capacity as cyber security director, first joined the child pornography website PedoBook in March 2012. The Omaha World-Herald reported that he was arrested in April of last year, when law enforcement officials serving a search warrant found him downloading child pornography in his home.

In addition to viewing and soliciting child pornography, reportedly asking another member of the site whether he’d share pictures of his son, he suggested meeting a fellow pedophile in person to violently rape and murder children together.

IRS Lawyer: Lois Lerner's Blackberry Deliberately Destroyed after Start of Congressional Probe

Lois Lerner’s Blackberry was intentionally destroyed after Congress had begun its probe into IRS targeting of conservative groups, a senior IRS lawyer acknowledged in a sworn declaration.

Thomas Kane, Deputy Assistant Chief Counsel for the IRS, wrote in the declaration, part of a lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch against the IRS, that the Blackberry was “removed or wiped clean of any sensitive or proprietary information and removed as scrap for disposal in June 2012.”

That date – June 2012 – is significant because by that time, ex-IRS official Lerner had already been summoned before congressional staffers who interviewed her about reports of the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups.

“We had already talked to her. Our personal staff and Oversight Committee staff had sat down with Ms. Lerner and confronted her about information we were getting from conservative groups in the state of Ohio and around the country,” Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Fox News.

Justice Department Admits that the Federal Government Has ALL of Lois Lerner’s Emails

By Bryan Preston.

Judicial Watch just dropped a bombshell in the IRS targeting investigation.

Department of Justice attorneys for the Internal Revenue Service told Judicial Watch on Friday that Lois Lerner’s emails, indeed all government computer records, are backed up by the federal government in case of a government-wide catastrophe. The Obama administration attorneys said that this back-up system would be too onerous to search. The DOJ attorneys also acknowledged that the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) is investigating this back-up system.

We obviously disagree that disclosing the emails as required would be onerous, and plan to raise this new development with Judge Sullivan.

Constitution Party Wins Spot on Alaska's November Ballot

The Alaska Division of Elections has certified all three Alaska Constitution Party (ACP) candidate petitions to appear on the general election ballot on November 4th. J.R.Myers for Governor, Maria Rensel for Lt. Governor and Pam Goode for State House District 9 will represent the ACP. The Myers/Rensel ticket will face four other teams in the Governor’s Race this fall.

J.R. Myers observed, “It was a great barrier to overcome, but with the people of Alaska, we did it! Altogether, we turned in nearly 9,000 signatures from ordinary Alaskans who decided to give us a chance. Now, let the real campaigns begin!”

Maria Rensel, ACP Lt. Gov. candidate said,”I just want to express my excitement and gratitude to more than 8,750 grassroots Alaskans who signed the petitions. You did it Alaska, great job! I think this is a perfect example of what ordinary people can do when they decide to take matters into their own hands. We’ve expressed our desire to have another choice of political parties in our state.”

Pam Goode, ACP candidate for State House District 9 stated, “The effort and success of achieving this milestone took the quality of a few and the quantity of many but it took all of us Alaskans and constitutionists to make this happen. Well done grassroots!!! For all those that shared in this, you are appreciated more than you know, thank you!

The race for Alaska Governor this year is a qualifying race for the Alaska Constitution Party. Once the Myers/Rensel ticket earns 3% or more of the vote this November, the ACP will become a full-fledged political party in Alaska. It is currently classified as a Political Group. This change in status will bring many additional benefits for ACP members and candidates.

Karl Rove Praises Holder For Ferguson: "I Think He Did Something Of A Good Job" (+video)

By Real Clear Politics

KARL ROVE: I think he did something of a good job. We have two narratives here. One narrative emerging from the black community that the police killed a young black man who was approaching with his arms up, saying don’t shoot. We have a second narrative which is we have a young – a violent young black man who assaulted a police officer and the police officer felt threatened. We won’t know until the justice system works its way through which narrative is correct. I think Holder did a good thing by going to the community and saying, as a chief law enforcement officer in the country, I understand where you’re coming from because I have felt racial prejudice in my own life, even when I was a prosecutor.

Pat Buchanan: Holder acts more like Al Sharpton than Attorney General

By Breitbart TV.

Tuesday on Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show,” bestselling author and conservative commentator Pat Buchanan said Attorney General Eric Holder acted more like the so-called civil rights leader Al Sharpton than the top law enforcement official in the land and tainted the jury pool by going to Ferguson MO to talk to community leaders about the Michael Brown shooting case.

Unprecedented: Food Stamp Enrollments Top 45 Million, 3 Years in a Row

President Barack Obama and vulnerable Democrats facing tough midterm elections in 71 days are scrambling to prop up the moribund U.S. economy in the minds of disgruntled voters. However, one of the quickest shorthand economic measurements–food stamp enrollments–paints a startling portrait of the “new normal” in the Obama economy.

According to the Department of Agriculture’s most recently released data, the number of individuals enrolled in the food stamp program (known officially as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP) has remained above 45 million every single month for three years straight.

In May 2011, 45,410,683 individuals received food stamps. As of May 2014 (the most recent date for which data are available), 46,225,054 people were on food stamps. At no point between the two dates did the number of food stamp enrollments ever fall below the 45 million mark.

Florida School District Replaces Football Chaplains with "Life Coaches"

Troy Schmidt’s jaw dropped.

A few minutes before, he had been preparing to start his seventh year as chaplain for the Olympia High School football team in Florida. But now, those plans had been changed – radically changed.

“I received a call from the coach,” Schmidt told me. “He said Orange County Public Schools is no longer allowed to have chaplains as a part of the football program.”

Schmidt, who is a campus pastor of the First Baptist Church of Windermere, Florida, listened as the football coach explained the district’s decision to cleanse Christianity from its ranks.

“I could no longer open the Bible, talk about the Bible, talk about God or pray with the team in any capacity,” he told me. “It was heartbreaking.”

Media Conspiracy to Bury CDC Whistleblower Story Protects Vaccine Makers at the Expense of Human Life

One of the most extraordinary stories in American history is unfolding before our eyes today as the entire mainstream media conspires to suppress and bury the true story of a CDC scientist blowing the whistle on runaway scientific fraud at the agency. To date, not a single mainstream media source has published even one article on this historic turning point in medical history, where Americans learned that the CDC had been deliberately lying to them about the supposed safety of MMR vaccines.

One media source, CNN, has gone to tremendous lengths to censor citizen journalists who attempted to bring this story to light.

Alternative media takes over role of a free press in a free society

The breaking of this astonishing story has been accomplished entirely by the “alternative media” — the only free press still operating in the world today. Every other news source — including many so-called “progressive” publishers — has fallen in line with the deliberate suppression of a medical news story with enormous implications for public health, public trust and government authority.

If this story were taking place in any other industry, it would be front page news everywhere. For example, if a Republican campaign manager whistleblower went public with a confession of electoral fraud, it would be front page news everywhere.
