When the phone rings at 2:00 a.m., the voice on the other end is rarely calm. As a former 911 dispatcher, I spent years trained to be the steady anchor in someone’s darkest hour. But nothing in my emergency services career prepared me for the harrowing calls I field now on an abortion pill help line.

I speak every day with women and girls in moments of fear, pain, and confusion — often in the middle of the night, when no one else is willing to answer the phone. Over the past year, I have noticed a troubling pattern that should concern anyone who cares about women’s health, parental responsibility, and basic medical ethics.

The number of calls from women related to chemical abortions is increasing, as is the confusion. Women ask whether the amount of blood they’re losing is normal. They aren’t sure if they took the pills correctly, or at the right time, or in the right dose. Many don’t know how many weeks pregnant they are. They were told this would be simple, private, and empowering. In reality, it is often chaotic and isolating. . .

“Jenny” was 17 years old when she told the boy she’d known since she was 12 that she was pregnant. His response was blunt: get an abortion. When she told him she couldn’t afford the pills, he suggested she drink rubbing alcohol. When she refused, he blocked her number.

Parents Of Man Killed By Border Patrol In Minneapolis Release Statement

The parents of Alex Pretti released a statement late Saturday, hours after Border Patrol agents fatally shot the 37-year-old Minneapolis man the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said was armed and looked about to “massacre law enforcement.”

Michael and Susan Pretti said that their deceased adult son was a “good man” and called on the public to “[p]lease get the truth out about” him in their statement first shared with KARE, a Minneapolis-based NBC affiliate. The Prettis also claimed Alex Pretti was “clearly not holding a gun” when he was “attacked” by “[President Donald] Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] thugs,” and blasted the Trump administration for telling “sickening lies” about him.

“We are heartbroken but also very angry. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA [Veterans Affairs] hospital,” the Pretti statement continues. “Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the hero term lightly.”

Alex Pretti’s parents claimed their son’s “last thought and act was to protect a woman,” explaining that at the time he was shot and killed, he had “his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down all while being pepper sprayed.”

DHS, in a Saturday afternoon post to X, shared a photograph of a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun it claimed the man later identified as Pretti had on him when he approached federal agents that morning. The agency also claimed Pretti had on him “2 magazines and no ID.”

Trump Says Administration Is ‘Reviewing Everything’ About Fatal Shooting of Alex Pretti, Says Fed Agents Will Leave Minneapolis ‘At Some Point’

President Trump said his administration is reviewing the fatal shooting of an armed ICU nurse who was protesting ICE in Minneapolis before Border Patrol agents shot him dead in the street.

“We’re looking, we’re reviewing everything and will come out with a determination,” Trump told the Wall Street Journal in a five-minute phone call Sunday night, without providing his own ruling on whether the actions of the officer who shot the anti-ICE protester were justified.

“I don’t like any shooting. I don’t like it,” Trump added during the call. “But I don’t like it when somebody goes into a protest and he’s got a very powerful, fully loaded gun with two magazines loaded up with bullets also. That doesn’t play good either.”

The slain protester, 37-year-old Alex Pretti, was carrying a loaded pistol during the fatal confrontation with federal agents. He had a concealed carry permit, according to Minnesota officials.

Trump called Pretti’s gun — a Sig Sauer P320 9mm pistol — a “very dangerous gun, a dangerous and unpredictable gun. No. 1 Cancer Killer for People Under 50 Has Gotten Worse Since 1990 — Here’s Your ‘Best Tool’ for Beating It

Cancer deaths are falling among young Americans — except for one terrifying outlier.

Over the past 30 years, it has surged to become the top cancer killer of people under 50, overtaking breast, lung and brain cancers, as well as leukemia, a new analysis found.

“It is clear that this can no longer be called an old person’s disease,” Dr. Ahmedin Jemal, a senior author of the study and a top official at the American Cancer Society, said in a statement.

In the study, researchers analyzed more than 1.2 million deaths and found that overall cancer mortality in Americans under 50 dropped 44% between 1990 and 2023.

The decline was driven by sharp drops in four of the five leading cancer killers, which fell by as much as 6% annually.

Wife Suspects Her Church Deacon Husband of Cheating — Then She Uncovers Secret Bathroom Videos That Trigger Police Search

Tennessee husband and now-former church deacon has been criminally charged after his wife, who was holding his phone during a medical procedure, allegedly discovered videos of an underage babysitter in their bathroom, police said.

Christopher Thomas Collins, 42, was arrested Jan. 14 after police reportedly found explicit content on his cell phone. Collins is being detained on a $50,000 bond, according to Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office records.

Citing the police affidavit, WTVC-TV reported that Collins handed his phone over to his wife while he was undergoing a medical procedure.

Collins’ wife suspected her husband of cheating, so she searched his phone for evidence of infidelity, according to the affidavit.

Second Lady Usha Vance Pregnant With 4th Child

Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha shared they are expecting their fourth child in a joyous announcement on social media Tuesday.

“We’re very excited to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child, a boy. Usha and the baby are doing well, and we are all looking forward to welcoming him in late July,” the couple said in a statement in a joint Instagram post.

“During this exciting and hectic time, we are particularly grateful for the military doctors who take excellent care of our family and for the staff members who do so much to ensure that we can serve the country while enjoying a wonderful life with our children.”

The vice president, 41, and Usha, 40, have been married since 2014. They have three other children, Ewan, 8; Vivek, 5 and Mirabel, 3.

Mirabel became something of an Inauguration Day viral sensation for sporting colorful bandages featuring cartoon characters Bluey and Scooby-Doo on her fingers as her mother held her while her father took the oath of office a year ago Tuesday. Dem Governor Becomes Stuttering Mess As He’s Asked If Boys Can Become Girls

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom repeatedly stuttered as The Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro pressed him on whether boys can become girls during a Thursday episode of “This Is Gavin Newsom.”

Newsom has enabled California schools to discreetly transition children without their parents’ knowledge or consent. Shapiro called out Newsom on his podcast for being unwilling to say “whether boys can become girls,” prompting a non-answer from the governor.

“Yeah. I just don’t, well, I think, uh, I’m for the grace of God,” Newsom said. “Yeah.”

“I appreciate the sympathy … anybody who’s suffering with any sort of mental or physical condition, that’s terrible,” Shapiro responded.

Newsom responded with a platitude and more stammering.

Knudsen was diagnosed with osteosarcoma when he was 12, and has since endured 21 surgeries and countless, grueling rounds of chemotherapy and radiation after tumors were subsequently discovered in his lungs, on a kidney and a lymph node. . .

Amid the anxiety over whether illness remains lurking in his body, Knudsen is pushing for the passage of the Mikaela Naylon Give Kids a Chance Act — a bipartisan bill named after his friend, a fellow osteosarcoma patient and advocate who died late last year at 16. . .

Last month, the bill — designed to allow pediatric cancer patients to participate in clinical trials and to ensure them access to key treatments — passed unanimously in the House.

Shockingly, when the bill moved to the Senate, it was opposed by Sen. Bernie Sanders, who demanded a quid pro quo be attached for the funding of other efforts, such as community health centers. Actor Fights AI Scammers by Trademarking His Likeness & ‘Alright Alright Alright’ Catchphrase

Actor Matthew McConaughey has taken a stand against artificial intelligence by trademarking himself so he has recourse to sue deepfake makers.

McConaughey becomes the first actor to take this legal move as a way to counter having his likeness and voice used without his or his estate’s permission, Gulf News reported.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office says that McConaughey has field for eight trademark applications covering his public persona including video, audio, and even his well-known catch phrase, “Alright, alright, alright.” The application included audio clips, photos, and video of him simply staring straight at the camera.

McConaughey hopes that the trademarks can prevent unauthorized use of his persona to lay claim to use of his image before someone else does.

U.S. law does cover “right of publicity,” which protects against use of someone’s face and voice without consent. But enforcement of the rules can vary from one jurisdiction to the next. Court: State Can’t Force Christian Mission To Hire Non-Christians

Most legal experts, court watchers, and even casual observers would not likely characterize the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit as a bastion of conservative jurisprudence. But, in a recent decision, a panel of that court unanimously rejected the state of Washington’s attempt to force a religious ministry to hire employees whose beliefs contradict those of the ministry.

The right of religious organizations to hire only employees who are aligned with and live out their religious beliefs is a foundational tenet of our Constitution’s protection of religious liberty. The free exercise of religion by individuals, churches, and other faith-based ministries is essential to our founders’ vision of ordered liberty and the bedrock upon which our free civil society rests.

Yakima Union Gospel Mission has served its community for nearly a century. The mission has provided shelter for thousands of people, distributed hundreds of thousands of meals, and assisted countless homeless individuals through its outreach services. This service embodies the vision of America’s founders regarding the role of religion in our nation. When people of faith are free to live it out in their communities, everyone benefits — the homeless are sheltered, the hungry are fed, and the suffering are cared for by their neighbors, who view them as fellow image bearers of God.
