More Than a Third of Children Who Started School During Coronavirus Have Problem Reading

More than one-in-three students who started school during coronavirus pandemic restrictions are reading far below grade level and have little chance of recovering by the end of the school year.

According to a study by Amplify, a curriculum and assessment group, students in kindergarten through third grade are struggling with reading to such a degree that many require “intensive” intervention in order to recover from losses due to the pandemic.

The study used data derived from Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) assessments, a common diagnostic test that looks for indicators such as phonemic awareness, comprehension, alphabetic principle, and fluency. It compiled data from more than 1,300 schools in 37 states from 2019 to 2022.

While there has been some improvement from the 2020-2021 school year, the 2021-2022 school year, students are still well below pre-pandemic reading readiness. The results also show that earlier grade levels have the students least prepared relative to their grade level’s benchmark standards.

Only 47 percent of kindergartners are reading at grade level now compared to 55 percent pre-pandemic. That number can be coupled with the fact that 37 percent of kindergartners are considered “at-risk readers” who read well below their grade level, compared to only 29 percent pre-pandemic. “At-risk readers” are considered to only have a 20 percent chance of making up the gap by the end of the school year. Radical Abortion up Until Birth Bill Defeated in Senate

On Monday night, the U.S. Senate voted 46-48 for the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act, which will not only codify Roe v. Wade into federal law, but would override virtually every pro-life law at the state level, thus allowing for unrestricted abortion up until birth. While the radical legislation could not overcome the filibuster, it would have been a close vote without it in place.

Sen. Joe Manchin (WV) was the only Democrat who voted against allowing the bill to proceed for debate. Shortly before the vote took place, Sam Runyon, Manchin’s communications director, emailed Townhall that “Senator Manchin’s position has not changed,” reaffirming his stated pro-life position.

As I covered recently, however, Sen. Bob Casey Jr. (PA), had previously come out in support of moving forward, and cast his vote accordingly. Casey has portended to be a pro-life Democrat, though his voting record surely suggests otherwise.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) spoke in favor of the bill earlier on the Senate floor and during a press conference beforehand, joined by Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) and the bill’s sponsor, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).

During the press conference, Schumer referred to the abortion issue as “a vital and important issue,” claiming they were standing “as a united front,” despite how Manchin ultimately voted against it. Of the vote to allow debate to take place, Schumer referred to it as a “simple but urgent question” while at the press conference. Report: ‘ISIS Bride’ Says Texas Congressman Paid Her to Keep Quiet About Affair

Texas Rep. Van Taylor (R) allegedly paid $5,000 in hush money to an ‘ISIS bride’ he was engaged in an affair with during his time in Congress, Breitbart News has learned.

According to documents ‘ISIS bride’ Tania Joya shared with Breitbart News, Taylor was engaged in a raunchy sexual escapade with Joya that allegedly lasted from November 2020 to June 2021 — during which time she says Taylor paid her $5,000.

The payment, she says, was made in cash given to her by the congressman. Joya showed Breitbart News banking records that demonstrate she made a $5,000 deposit into her account when she says the affair occurred[.] . .

Joya told Breitbart News she first met Taylor in August of 2019, when she was looking to get involved with the Preventing Violent Extremism program in the district’s school system; Joya thought the congressman might have connections to facilitate her involvement.

Taylor, married with three children, and elected to Congress in 2019, is a Republican. He is one of the 35 Republicans who voted in favor of creating House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) January 6 Committee. Taylor is running for reelection in 2022 against four other Republican primary challengers. The primary is Tuesday, March 1.

Doctors Sue State for Forcing Them to Help With ‘Suicides’

Doctors have filed a lawsuit in California against the state’s attorney general, health department chief, and others who make up the state Medical Board over a plan that would require them to participate in assisted “suicides.”

For most of the history of the United States, “helping” someone kill themselves has been a crime. But multiple states now are adopting the “assisted suicide” story line and imposing requirements to help that agenda.

In California, the lawsuit is being brought by a Christian doctor as well as the Christian Medical & Dental Associations, for the law “that requires doctors to participate in physician-assisted suicide against their religious convictions and professional ethics.”

According to the Alliance Defending Freedom, which is representing the plaintiffs, the state’s End of Life Options Act legalized assisted suicides in 2015.

“Then, despite the medical-ethics consensus that no physician should be forced to participate in physician-assisted suicide even where the practice is allowed, California recently legislated to not only eliminate important safeguards from the End of Life Options Act, but also force conscientious physicians to participate in the process,” the ADF reported. Biden Announces His Radical Supreme Court Nominee

President Joe Biden announced Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as his Supreme Court nominee Friday.

The president vowed to announce his pick before the end of February after Associate Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer announced his plans to retire. Biden reiterated his promise to nominate a black woman, and Jackson was long viewed as one of the front-runners.

Jackson is one of Biden’s most high-profile judicial nominees and was confirmed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in 2021. Three senate Republicans voted to confirm her at the time, with the confirmation coming in at a narrow 52-46 vote. She is the first black woman to be nominated to the Supreme Court in the U.S. (Read more from “Biden Announces His Radical Supreme Court Nominee” HERE)

Children’s Hospital Fires Unvaxxed Nurses After Questioning And Rejecting Their Religious Beliefs

“Ijust love it. I love my job. I love what I do, and this has been really hard. Sorry.”

The pediatric nurse, who had been working at Children’s Wisconsin for 12 years, choked back tears as she stressed her passion for treating sick children to the chaplain and human resources representative tasked with questioning whether her religious beliefs were sincere enough to earn her an exemption from the Milwaukee hospital’s vaccine mandate, which took effect in November.

This nurse, whose religious exemption appeal interview was shared with The Federalist on the condition of anonymity, was finally granted an exemption after first being denied, then appealing, then being grilled by the two hospital representatives about her religious convictions. Some of her colleagues weren’t so fortunate.

Of the five appeal interview recordings reviewed by The Federalist, only two of the employees were granted religious exemptions despite the same general questions being asked to each of the Children’s workers and similar themes in each of their answers. The other three were denied.

Staff was notified in July about the vaccine mandate, which required them to get the Covid-19 shot by mid-November. Employees had until Sept. 1 to request a religious exemption, according to a vaccine overview document that Children’s WI President and CEO Peggy Troy emailed to all hospital employees, and they were notified of the decisions later. 78-Year-Old Woman Robbed While Praying in Church

Authorities in Tennessee are looking for a group of women who robbed a 78-year-old woman while she prayed in church.

Clarksville police said the theft of property happened Feb. 9 around 6 p.m. local time inside the sanctuary at Hilldale Baptist Church.

Officers said the elderly woman was praying when two women approached her, asking for prayers as well. While they were praying, a second woman went into the victim’s purse and stole credit cards, gift cards and cash. Investigators said the thieves then tried to use the credit cards at Sam’s Club and Kroger shortly after.

Surveillance video captured the incident and the suspected thieves at the Sam’s Club.

Senior Pastor Larry Robertson told FOX Television Stations that the women came to church 50 minutes before evening service, which he thought was a little odd. The women told him that there were visiting from another church. He then pointed them to the sanctuary where a pre-service prayer meeting was going to start in about 20 minutes. Queer Nation: Here’s How Many Americans Claim to Be LGBTQ

A new Gallup poll finds that a record 7.1% of Americans now identify as something other than heterosexual, including 1 in 5 Generation Z young adults.

Gallup reported this week that the percentage of U.S. adults claiming to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or something other than heterosexual in 2021 was double what the first survey on this question found in 2012 and up from 5.6% in 2020.

“The increase in LGBT identification in recent years largely reflects the higher prevalence of such identities among the youngest U.S. adults compared with the older generations they are replacing in the U.S. adult population,” Gallup reported.

The survey found that about 21% of Generation Z Americans who have reached adulthood — those born between 1997 and 2003 — identified as LGBT last year.

“That is nearly double the proportion of millennials who do so, while the gap widens even further when compared with older generations,” Gallup said. (Read more from “Queer Nation: Here’s How Many Americans Claim to Be LGBTQ” HERE)

Push to Put Men in Women’s Prisons Surges in the U.S.

In a scenario that easily could fit the old saying about having inmates running the asylum, the American prison industry has begun allowing men to simply call themselves women, and then serve their prison sentence with women.

The agenda already is imposing its requirements on California officials, and now there’s legislation in Maryland that would copy that plan.

And the House in Washington state is working on a proposal on the same fight: men, sometimes violent, being housed with women.

Just the News has documented that the program already is in operation along the West coast, and now the East is joining in.

The Maryland plan would let inmates choose their correctional facility facility based on their own claims about what gender they are, and a purported draft executive order from Joe Biden would order the same for federal facilities. Report: Dad Orders 4-Year-Old to Shoot at Police at McDonald’s Drive-Thru

A 4-year-old child fired a gun at police officers on instructions from his father during a dispute over a food order at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Utah on Monday, officials said.

The shooting took place at a McDonald’s in Midvale, just outside of Salt Lake City, when a man flashed a gun at fast-food workers during an argument about his order, according to Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake.

Sadaat Johnson was at the drive-thru with two children in the backseat when an argument ensued. Johnson, 27, pulled over and waited for workers to fix his order. . .

Officers arrived and were able to remove Johnson, who was being uncooperative, from the vehicle.

While he was being apprehended, police said the dad instructed the 4-year-old child – who was still in the vehicle – to shoot the officers. Cops said they saw a small arm and hand holding a gun appear from inside the vehicle door. (Read more from “Report: Dad Orders 4-Year-Old to Shoot at Police at McDonald’s Drive-Thru” HERE)
