City Tries To Take Land Family Bought for Hardware Store

A family-owned hardware store chain planned to expand into Southold, New York, but officials there apparently didn’t want the business.

They tried to interfere with the original purchase of the plot of commercial property when the Brinkmann family, owners of the Brinkmann’s Hardware chain that already operates in several nearby locations, made the purchase.

Then they tried “exorbitant permitting fees,” according to officials with the Institute for Justice.

Then they deployed a “selective” moratorium on building permits.

Now they are trying to move in and physically take the land, through eminent domain, claiming that it’s essential for a “park.” (Read more from “City Tries To Take Land Family Bought for Hardware Store” HERE)

Could These Plummeting Fertility Rates Send the U.S. into a Population Crisis?

Earlier this week, columnist Kurt Schlichter had a piece out there, “Conservatives Need To Get It On.” He has a point. The CDC just released figures which show that birth rates are down. According to the report:

The provisional number of births for the United States in 2020 was 3,605,201, down 4% from the number in 2019 (3,747,540) (Tables 1–3 and Figure 1). This is the sixth consecutive year that the number of births has declined after an increase in 2014, down an average of 2% per year, and the lowest number of births since 1979 (3,8,9).

There’s more than COVID, though, to do with this consistent trend. As Janet Adamy with the Wall Street Journal reported in quoting experts:

Because the Covid-19 pandemic emerged in March, the figures capture just a short period at year’s end when the unfolding health and economic crisis could be reflected in women’s decisions about getting pregnant. Women typically have fewer babies when the economy weakens. Fears of getting sick, making medical appointments and delivering a baby as a deadly virus spread also dissuaded some women from pregnancy. . .

Demographers say the data suggests that more fundamental social and economic shifts are driving down fertility. Births peaked in 2007 before plunging during the recession that began that year. Although fertility usually rebounds alongside an improving economy, U.S. births fell in all but one year as the economy grew from 2009 until early 2020.

A Male Powerlifter Could Be Competing in Women’s Sport at 2021 Olympics

New Zealand weightlifter Laurel Hubbard could be the first biological male to compete in a women’s sport at the Olympics.

A rule change, approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), would automatically qualify Hubbard for the New Zealand women’s weightlifting team at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, the Guardian reported Wednesday. The rules were apparently changed after multiple competitions had to be canceled over coronavirus, according to the outlet. Hubbard would compete with the team in the women’s super heavyweight category, the Guardian noted.

Hubbard won two silvers in the women’s World Weightlifting Championships back in 2017 and placed sixth in 2019 after suffering an injury during the competition, the Guardian reported. Hubbard also took home two gold medals and a silver medal at the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa. (Read more from “A Male Powerlifter Could Be Competing in Women’s Sport at 2021 Olympics” HERE)

One of Fauci’s Own Scientists Reportedly Slams CDC’s Incoming Summer Camp Rules

Scientists slammed the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) strict guidelines for summer camps, including a scientist at Dr. Anthony Fauci’s agency who called the measures “unfair and cruel.”

“With staff and parents vaccinated, there is no reason to continue incredibly strict mitigation efforts or put severe limitations on activities,” an infectious disease scientist at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Fauci’s agency, told New York Magazine. “Charitably, masking kids at camp outdoors is simply virtue signaling.”

“Requiring kids to continuously wear masks at camps, even while outside playing in the heat, when it provides little additional protection is unfair and cruel to our children,” the scientist added. “Considering that children are at incredibly low risk for developing severe illness, the minimal benefits of mask-wearing do not outweigh the substantial costs of discouraging children to be active and their overall health.”

Multiple studies have suggested that children are very unlikely to spread coronavirus to one another, even in school settings. The virus is also rarely spread in outdoor settings. When children do get infected with coronavirus, they are far less likely to become seriously ill or die from the virus than their adult counterparts, studies show.

Donald Trump to Speak at Pro-Life Summit

A half-dozen potential 2024 Republican presidential contenders are speaking Monday and Tuesday at the Susan B. Anthony List’s Pro-Life Leaders Summit in Palm Beach, Fla.

Headlining Monday’s session at the conference of social conservative activists and leaders is former President Trump, who has repeatedly flirted with making a 2024 presidential run.

Also speaking Monday, according to a schedule that was shared first with Fox News, are Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Sen. Rick Scott, whom pundits consider potential presidential contenders in the next White House race.

Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina is scheduled to keynote Tuesday’s session. Seen as a rising star on the right, Scott’s seen that star shine brighter the past couple of days, following his GOP rebuttal last week to President Biden’s address to a joint session of Congress. The speech by Scott, the only Black Republican in the Senate, won rave reviews by many conservatives.

Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Marco Rubio of Florida, 2016 GOP presidential candidates who are considered potential 2024 contenders, will also address the conference on Tuesday. Former Vice President Mike Pence – who has long spotlighted his faith and values and who chose the Palmetto Family Council, a conservative Christian nonprofit based in South Carolina, as the group to whom he would give his first post-vice presidency speech – will address the SBA List gathering via video. Beef Recipes No Longer Being Posted by Top Cooking Site, Here’s the Ridiculous Reason Why

Beef: It’s what’s not for dinner at a top website for recipes, because we’re in a climate crisis, and are you some kind of denier, sir? How dare you?

In perhaps the most laughable bit of climate virtue-signaling you’d have seen last week or any other, Epicurious announced it was no longer going to feature new recipes featuring anything from our friend the cow because they’ve “cut out beef.”

“For any person — or publication — wanting to envision a more sustainable way to cook, cutting out beef is a worthwhile first step,” Epicurious’ David Tamarkin and Maggie Hoffman wrote in an April 26 piece. WATCH: Nurse Suspended After Saying Masks Are Harmful to Students

A school nurse in New Jersey said she has been suspended after refusing to wear her mask at work and suggesting that requiring children to wear masks all the time is doing more harm than good.

Erin Pein, who has been working at Stafford Township School District for the past three years, said in a YouTube video that the mask mandate is taking a toll on children’s mental and physical health during the pandemic.

“We see the kids who are having anxiety and having depression in kindergarten, in first, second grade,” Pein said, explaining that kids at that age don’t normally experience those problems. She said there was a girl in first grade who came to her and said she felt “something really bad was going to happen,” and that the “mask made her feel scared.”

“When she thinks about it, her stomach starts to hurt and she throws up,” Pein recalled. “She was sent to me because she threw up in class, and she told me, ‘I’m not sick,’ she said, ‘I’m just really nervous.’ To hear that from a first-grader is just heartbreaking.” . . .

“I didn’t think that voicing my concerns was going to make a difference, so I decided that I was going to do my own form of protest. … I let them know that I was no longer going to be wearing a mask at work,” Pein said, adding that she was suspended and “escorted out of the building” on the Monday she went to work without a mask. Texans Vote to Make City Largest Sanctuary for the Unborn

Texans voted overwhelmingly to make Lubbock a “Sanctuary City for the Unborn” by outlawing abortion.

The ordinance makes Lubbock, which has a 2019 population of 229,943, the largest city to ban abortion in the country. Before Lubbock, the largest city to pass a similar ordinance was Big Spring, Texas, which has an estimated population of 28,187, KWKT-TV reported. There are 22 smaller cities in Texas and two in Nebraska that passed “Sanctuary City for the Unborn” legislation. Lubbock is the only town with an active abortion clinic to pass the ordinance, according to KLBK-TV.

The Lubbock County Elections Office released the voting results for the Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance, which easily passed by a 62.46% to 37.54% margin, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The ordinance states, “Abortion at all times and at all stages of pregnancy is declared to be an act of murder.”

“It shall be unlawful for any person to procure or perform an abortion of any type and at any stage of pregnancy in the City of Lubbock, Texas,” the ordinance reads. “It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly aid or abet an abortion that occurs in the City of Lubbock, Texas.” (Read more from “Texans Vote to Make City Largest Sanctuary for the Unborn” HERE)

Former Black Lives Matter Movement Leader Arrested

A one-time Black Lives Matter movement leader in Iowa City was arrested after allegedly lying to authorities about a killing that took place in his apartment.

Mazin M. Mohamedali, 20, was arrested Saturday and faces one count of accessory after the fact.

Police reported that Mohamedali, who previously identified himself as a leader of a racial justice group called the Iowa Freedom Riders leader, knew that 19-year-old Quincy Russom had been killed in his Iowa apartment on Feb. 12 during a suspected robbery but waited to call 911.

Police also said that he gave false descriptions of people involved with Russom’s death, lied during questioning, and withheld information that would have more quickly led them to the suspect behind the killing, Sammy Hamed. At Least 90 People Found in Texas Home, Possible Human Smuggling Ring

The Houston Police Department is investigating a possible human smuggling case after officers discovered at least 90 people inside a residence.

Officers initially responded to a call at the 12200 block of Chessington Drive regarding a kidnapping, according to the Houston Police Department. Authorities now say the incident “may possibly involve human smuggling” after finding dozens of individuals.

“Last night we were made aware of a kidnapping call” Houston Police Assistant Chief Daryn Edwards, said during a briefing Friday.

Edwards said investigators worked through the night to track down the possible location and obtained a search warrant for the residence. Upon arrival, authorities realized it had turned into a human smuggling investigation. (Read more from “At Least 90 People Found in Texas Home, Possible Human Smuggling Ring” HERE)
