Republican Senator Introduces Plan to Break the Universities’ Higher Ed Stranglehold

A Republican senator says that American universities have a “monopoly” on higher education, and he has some legislation aimed at breaking it up and putting more federal support behind vocational and skills training.

Tuesday morning, Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., announced a pair of bills to expand federal aid available for vocational training and to hold universities accountable when students can’t pay back their loans, calling the ideas a “bold reform of higher education.”

The first bill would “amend the Federal Pell Grant Program to support career training opportunities for young Americans,” according to its description. It would do this by telling the Department of Education to develop “an alternative certification program” in order to allow Pell grants to go toward toward things like apprenticeships and certification programs.

How would this work? As an example, background materials from Hawley’s office say a company that partnered with a local technical college to create an employee training program would be able to grow it using Pell grant dollars, which are not available now.

The second bill would impose on institutions shared responsibilities with students for their college loans. It would require colleges and universities to pay half the balance of the student loans accrued at their school if students default on them.

The current maximum award for a Pell grant, which is need-based federal assistance based on a variety of factors, is $6,195 for the current award year.

“American students and workers need more pathways into the middle class, more opportunities to get good work and build bright futures. And they shouldn’t have to further enrich colleges by taking on a mountain of debt or mortgage their lives in order to get a good-paying job,” Hawley said in a statement.

The senator also derided the current education system “that preferences students who want to attend a four-year college over Americans who want to learn a skill” and”protects higher education institutions that have been padding their endowments with taxpayer money while they raise tuition.”

Hawley’s proposal would also help correct a major problem in the United States economy: A lack of skilled tradespeople. A 2018 report at NPR delved into just how bad the labor disparity is for trade jobs in the U.S., most of which have far more vacancies than trained people to work them.

“It’s time to level the playing field and provide more options for career training,” Hawley’s statement said. “We also must hold higher education institutions accountable that take advantage of students who rack up mountains of debt, are unable to find a good job and default on their loans.”

Hawley’s student loan plan stands in stark contrast to proposals put forward in the 2020 Democratic primary field. Sens. Bernie Sanders, Vt., and Elizabeth Warren, Mass., have introduced loan “forgiveness” proposals in Congress, while other primary candidates have introduced their own differing loan proposals. A recent survey of Senate Democrats, however, found most of them silent on whether or not the American taxpayer should pick up the tab for other peoples’ student loans. U.S. Women’s Soccer Team Backup Goalie Attacks Christian Player

After accusations rose against the U.S. women’s soccer team that the team had snubbed openly Christian and star player Jaelene Hinkle because of her faith, the backup goaltender for the team, Ashlyn Harris, ripped into Hinkle, saying that the problem is Hinkle’s “intolerance” and that Hinkle is “homophobic.”

Harris’ comments were prompted not by Hinkle, who has not commented on the uproar, but by Catholic advocate and staunch pro-life champion Obianuju Ekeocha, who tweeted on Sunday: “Jaelene Hinkle, is the 26-year-old American footballer who gave up the opportunity to be in the USWNT. I was very curious to know what happened so I went in search of her interview with CBN. Apparently, the US women’s Football team is not a very welcoming place for Christians.” . . .

Then Harris seemingly conflated Ekeocha’s statement with Hinkle’s perspective, writing, “Don’t you dare say our team is ‘not a welcoming place for Christians’. You weren’t around long enough to know what this team stood for. This is actually an insult to the Christians on our team. Same on you.”

Planned Parenthood President Removed from Office After Only 10 Months

While pro-life advocates have been successfully passing bills limiting abortion in various states across the country, Planned Parenthood on Tuesday removed the president of the organization, Dr. Leana Wen, who was named president only 10 months ago.

The New York Times reported, “The move came after hours of negotiations Tuesday between the board of directors and the president, Leana Wen, according to two people familiar with the decision … people familiar with the move said there had been internal strife over her management, and that the group felt it needed a more aggressive political leader to fight the efforts to roll back access to abortions.”

The new acting president was unanimously chosen by Planned Parenthood’s board on Tuesday: Alexis McGill Johnson, the co-founder of the Perception Institute, who will also serve as chief executive of both Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund. McGill Johnson released a statement that read, “I am proud to step in to serve as acting president and facilitate a smooth leadership transition in this critical moment for Planned Parenthood and the patients and communities we serve. I thank Dr. Wen for her service and her commitment to patients.”

Wen stated in an interview with The New York Times in May, “There are thousands of people who wake up every day thinking that their job is to take away everything that we stand for, to take away bodily autonomy, to take away the right to health care for millions of people who depend on us. Illegal Alien in Sanctuary City Charged With Sexually Assaulting 6-Year-Old

An illegal alien has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a six-year-old child in Johnston County, North Carolina.

Alejandro Duarte Aldama, 32 years old, was charged last week on a number of child sex crime charges involving the alleged sexual assault of a six-year-old, according to records obtained by CBS 17.

Aldama, a law enforcement official told Breitbart News, entered the U.S. without inspection, which indicates that he is in the country illegally, most likely arriving from across the southern border. Aldama had been living in Raleigh, North Carolina — a sanctuary city that shields illegal aliens from deportation.

The illegal alien has been charged with a statutory sex offense and indecent liberties with a child. Aldama, the warrant claims, attempted “to engage in a sex act” with the six-year-old on January 4, 2019. Transgender Weightlifter Wins Gold at 2019 Games

. . .Laurel Hubbard, 41, formerly Gavin Hubbard, “won two gold medals and a silver in the three heavyweight categories, for women weighing more than 87 kilograms, or 192 pounds, finishing first in the snatch-lift and combined categories and second in the clean-and-jerk,” as The Washington Times reported.

CaldronPool.com reported, “In second place was Samoa’s 18-year-old weightlifter Feagaiga Stowers, who won her nation’s second gold medal last year after Hubbard was forced to withdraw due to an elbow injury.” Stuff.co added, “Lifting for gold comes after revelations that Hubbard was charged with careless driving causing injury after her vehicle fishtailed on a sharp bend near Queenstown on October 24, 2018. Her car hit a vehicle carrying an Australian couple in their 60s. The male driver spent nearly two weeks in Dunedin Hospital and needed major spinal surgery on returning to Australia.”

Stuff also reported that Hubbard sought the permanent suppression of his name after the accident, and a judge ruling in February supported suppressing the name until the end of September 2019, but Stuff appealed, and last week the High Court overruled the judge from February. Stuff noted, “Justice Gerald Nation said Judge Farnan had made a number of errors and Hubbard’s potential distress did not meet the legal test for suppression.” (Read more from “Transgender Weightlifter Wins Gold at 2019 Games” HERE)

Study: 95 Percent of Biologists Say Life Begins at Conception

After a five-year struggle, University of Chicago student Steven Jacobs finally published his study into biologists’ opinions on whether life begins at conception. That study won him a Ph.D., but it also angered the liberal biologists and many others in academia. Some have demonized him, saying his survey seemed developed by the Ku Klux Klan and that it would expedite the extinction of the human race.

Jacobs’ study found that a vast majority of Americans believe biologists should determine the question “When does a human’s life begin?” and that the question is important to the abortion debate. Then Jacobs surveyed biologists and found that 95 percent of them agreed that “a human’s life begins at fertilization.”

Jacobs insists that his paper is not intended to argue the pro-life position in the abortion debate. “This paper does not argue that the finding ‘a fetus is biologically classified as a human at fertilization’ necessitates the position ‘a fetus ought to be considered a person worthy of legal consideration,'” he wrote. Instead, he cites philosopher Peter Singer’s “is-ought” distinction, claiming that Americans can believe life begins at conception and support the killing of unborn babies up until viability or birth. . .

So Jacobs compiled a sample of 5,502 biologists from 1,058 academic institutions (he reached out to 62,469 biologists and 7,383 participated in the survey, but only 5,502 answered the pertinent questions). The biologists predominantly identified as non-religious (63 percent), liberal (89 percent and 11 percent conservative), Democratic (92 percent), and pro-choice (85 percent, only 15 were pro-life). The sample included biologists who were born in 86 countries around the world.

A broad consensus of those biologists affirmed each of three statements representing the view that “a human’s life begins at fertilization” (75 percent-91 percent). Overall, 95 percent affirmed the view that human life begins at conception. (Read more from “Study: 95 Percent of Biologists Say Life Begins at Conception” HERE)

Abortion Activist Uses Watermelon to Glorify ‘Easy’ Abortion Procedure

In an act solely meant to glorify abortion, an abortion activist participating at the Netroots Nation conference on Friday used a watermelon to demonstrate how abortion clinicians abort unborn children 11 to 12 weeks old.

Abortion clinic consultant Jen Moore Conrow provided attendees with the step-by-step early pregnancy abortion process, according to the Washington Times.

Conrow claimed the procedure takes 3-5 minutes and leaves women feeling “OK afterward.” Ironically, she did not perform the abortion process herself, but rather left that task to an assistant. . .

During a later panel at the conference, which hosts progressive activists from across the country, Conrow again performed the mock procedure on a watermelon.

Feminist Grad Student Says Biological Men Can’t Be Women. Now the University Is Investigating Her.

A university is investigating one of its female graduate students after she said that biological men cannot be women. . .

University of California-Santa Barbara feminist grad student Laura Tanner is under fire for remarks that she made on social media — particularly on her Twitter page. Tanner, a doctoral candidate in the school’s department of Feminist Studies, is an “outspoken critic of transgender ideology,” according to the outlet.

Tanner’s Twitter page banner reads, “A woman is someone with a female body and any personality … not a ‘female personality’ and any body.” . . .

Tanner’s remarks have ruffled enough feathers that the school is investigating her remarks after trans “allies” demanded that the administration take action against her. Such critics called Tanner “absolute trash” as well as a “dumb b****.” Some have even suggested that Tanner should die because of her sentiments. . .

The school’s newspaper even went as far as calling her “transphobic.” The chair of her department — Laury Oaks — said that Tanner’s remarks are “distressing,” and said that he could file both ethics and Title IX complaints agains her. Online, Oaks shared responses from the school’s Title IX Coordinator, Ariana Alvarez, who confirmed that the department is “actively engaging in a response” to Tanner’s social media posts. Court Rules President Trump Can Defund Planned Parenthood

A federal appeals court today ruled President Donald Trump can partially defund planned Parenthood while the abortion business’ lawsuit against his administration’s new rules moves forward.

As LifeNews reported in March, the Trump administration finalized an administrative rule that would partially defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business and deprive it of as much as $60 million in taxpayer dollars. This action adds to President Trump’s record of defunding the Planned Parenthood abortion company.

The abortion chain receives about $50 million to $60 million in Title X funds annually, but that could change now that the new rules are being implemented. The administration’s changes to Title X family planning grants have angered the abortion chain Planned Parenthood, prompting a lawsuit, but they provide hope for life-affirming pregnancy centers, which can now compete with the abortion giant for the federal funds. . .

Last month, a three-judge panel from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted the Trump administration’s request to lift national injunctions ordered by lower federal courts in Oregon and Washington state, as well as a statewide injunction in California. The panel said the Trump administration will likely prevail in the legal battle over the Title X family planning program since similar Reagan-era rules were upheld by the Supreme Court almost 30 years ago. . .

Today, the entire appeals court upheld defunding in a 7-4 decision with Republican-appointed judges upholding defended and Democrat judges forcing Americans to fund the abortion business. (Read more from “Court Rules President Trump Can Defund Planned Parenthood” HERE)

Children of Overwhelmed Border Agents Bullied in Schools, Taunted over Their Parents’ Job

Here is your job description:

You must patrol a rugged frontier where everything stings and bites. In 105-degree weather.

You must confront and interdict hundreds of desperate illegal aliens alone in remote brush and ensure that no dangerous people or drugs get in. But you must also treat them all with the utmost care.

You must confront the most violent and deadly terrorist groups in combat mode, but you can’t be in combat mode.

Your job is to protect Americans, but unofficially your job has become protecting those invading who are strategically sent here by rival groups beheading each other.

You must grope around in the dark through overgrown sugar cane at night with cartels monitoring your every move, where you can be ambushed at any moment without backup.

You are an American hero, right? Nope. You are called a Nazi and a concentration camp guard by the elite members of the political and media class.

You are a modern Border Patrol agent.

Sergio Tinoco had an impoverished childhood in south Texas, as his mother remained in Mexico, and he labored on a farm to support himself. He pulled himself up by the bootstraps, served in the military for 10 years, and then became a Border Patrol agent protecting the land in which he grew up in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV). The last thing this son of Mexican immigrants expected was to be compared to a Nazi by America’s elites for serving his nation and protecting our dangerous border, but it’s more personal than just general criticisms leveled in the media.

“Our agents are just completely overwhelmed; they are exhausted,” said the exasperated Border Patrol supervisor on my podcast yesterday. “Not only are they exhausted out in the field, exhausted inside the stations processing, they are exhausted with all the rhetoric that’s coming down through the media and Congress. Our own congressional leaders are vilifying our agents. These are the people holding America’s front line. It hurts us all. The most evil statement ever made – that Border Patrol is running concentration camps – let me tell you, I have kids, all of us have kids, we are regular people. We’re regular Joes and Jameses. We have kids and spouses who also hear these comments. Our kids’ friends hear these comments. And they get bullied in school, they get bullied at the playground, they get bullied at parties. Our spouses have to hear it at their own workspaces. It’s just a sad scene for my wife to go into the work office and the very first question, instead of saying good morning, is it true that your husband is gassing these immigrants or killing these immigrants or raping them? I mean how do you even start your day off like that?”

Sergio, who patrols one of the hardest-hit regions, told me that the public has no clue how the emotional abuse from political leaders exacerbates their nearly impossible physical job.

“I’m supposed to come home at the end of my shift, a ten-hour shift mind you, of dealing with hundreds and hundreds of bodies every single day. I’m exhausted physically, I’m exhausted mentally, I’m exhausted emotionally. I want to come home and this is supposed to be my shelter, right? My fortress of solitude where I can relax and unwind? No, I can’t do that any more. Because now I have to come home and hear what my kids were told by their friends. … And now we have to correct that. So, at what point does the agent truly relax and unwind? Congress has truly taken that away from us and placed us in a very, very dark spot.”

And our agents now are not even able to perform their first job of protecting Americans. All border agents do now is care for these people as if they are the slaves of foreign nationals rather than protectors of the American citizen. They are falling on their swords for illegal aliens at the expense of protecting the American people, yet they still get accused of running concentration camps.

“Our agents are the most compassionate agents out there,” Tinoco said. “We give up our water, we give up our food. We care for these kids, we care for the moms. I mean, just place yourself in a room overcrowded with kids crying; moms and dads pleading, ‘I am hurting, I need to go to the doctor.’ ‘Yes, sir. Yes, ma’am,’” we say. “‘We’re about to take you to the hospital.’ Mind you, these are things that we are not designed for, but because of our compassion, our human nature, of course, we deal with it. … That’s part of the emotional exhaustion that we experienced daily, you know, and then to hear all these evil things being said about us, it just undermines our mission, it undermines the work we’re doing, it undermines the challenges that we face.”

One other border agent in the Rio Grande Valley who must remain anonymous because he’s not authorized to speak to the media told me that this is a broader problem with the culture in the RGV. “People from outside the area don’t realize that a lot of the culture among the power players and even among some of the people in south Texas are very favorable towards the cartels and illegal aliens. To paint a target on the backs of Border Patrol when they have families going to the schools in the region is unfathomable. Just a few weeks ago, my seven-year-old was cornered by a group of kids who were brainwashed against Border Patrol. They also give children of ICE and DEA agents a hard time.”

It would be one thing if Border Patrol officially just became babysitters and hospital transporters in a safe environment. But they face unimaginable danger in the field when they patrol. Not only are they in danger while dealing with the cartels and the criminal elements of the migrants, but even dealing with the family units is volatile.

Tinoco explained how he has been in situations where he is alone in a remote area and as many as 54 individuals show up. Even if they are just run-of-the-mill migrant families without any gang or criminal record (which are extremely common), Sergio painted a picture for my listeners of how nerve-racking such confrontations can be.

“These people lost everything. They either owe money to the cartel or they owe money to a coyote. God only knows what has happened to their daughters on the trip to the border. And now all of a sudden, they have just one man or woman in a green uniform and that is the last person they have to go through, in their minds, to reach freedom. That’s a very dangerous predicament for us to be in. They are pinned up against a wall and in the last moment of frustration, anything can happen.”

One man among 54.

“We go into any sort of area knowing in the back of our minds that sooner or later, our backup is going to arrive, hopefully sooner rather than later.”

Will the backup from the American people and their political leaders ever arrive? (For more from the author of “Children of Overwhelmed Border Agents Bullied in Schools, Taunted over Their Parents’ Job” please click HERE)
