Waiter’s Anti-Military Rant Sparks Outrage

635664376260227640-ARM-Ruby-TuesdayA Ruby Tuesday’s server in Hawaii profanely lashed out at the entire military over an alleged stingy tip from a service member over the weekend, and the Facebook post created an Internet uproar.

In the heavily-circulated outburst, waiter Matt Heflin started off: “Next time some military piece of s— leaves me a quarter on $60 tab I’m going to jail! F— all those dumb uneducated motherf—ers. And f— you uncle sam.” His message also included “F— THE MILITARY” in call caps.

The brief soliloquy shared by Facebook page “U.S. Army W.T.F! moments,” among others, pushed Rick Nakashima, a co-owner of multiple Ruby Tuesdays in Hawaii, into damage-control mode. Nakashima told Army Times that “this is not us, this is not how we think” as he separated “one apple” from his more than 500 employees. He expressed appreciation for everything the military does . . .

Nakashima, after learning of the incident, wrote an apology on the Ruby Tuesday Hawaii Facebook page on Sunday:

“I am a partner in Ruby Tuesday Hawaii and have just been notified of one of my employees [sic] negative comments towards a Military guest. PLEASE accept my sincere apology and know that we appreciate all you do for us and your patronage. My father was a Captain in the USAF and I have the utmost respect for the Armed Forces. We will take immediate action on this employee. Thank You for your understanding.” (Read more from “Waiter’s Anti-Military Rant Sparks Outrage” HERE)

What We Lose With Only Two Children per Family

Ellen_H._Swallow_Richards_House_Boston_MA_01A mainland Chinese student visited my office last week, asking for a letter of recommendation for his transfer to another university. It is hard to lose a student like this—enthusiastic and bright, the sort who sits on the front row of a large auditorium lecture class and asks good questions.

He gave the usual reasons for wanting to transfer: he liked Pepperdine, of course, but it did not offer the technically specialized majors he or his parents were seeking. When asked where he was applying, he listed some elite East-Coast schools, but he seemed most interested in two Hong Kong universities. When asked why, he mentioned a girlfriend, but emphasized that he had a cousin back in China to whom he was extremely close: “He is like a brother to me.”

Since our conversation I keep returning in my thoughts to this student’s strong tie to his cousin. It is not unusual for cousins to be very close, of course, but that is not what is so striking in this case. I have been privileged to know many mainland Chinese students over the last two decades at Pepperdine, but none has ever mentioned so much as a brother or a sister, much less a cousin. On one side of this student’s family, his grandparents brought two children into the world in the teeth of a one-child policy backed by a totalitarian state.

I don’t know any details of how they managed it—through connections, wealth, or endurance amid persecution—only that they did. In bearing the cost, they realized a gift for themselves, and perhaps were aware that they were giving each of their children the gift of a sibling. I wonder if they realized what a gift they were giving to their grandson: a cousin who was “like a brother” to someone who had no brother or sister . . .

China’s one-child policy has stripped the social space between the state and the individual of every protection that the most natural community, the family, can provide. How much more damaging must be the collapse of family size in Chinese culture, in which family ties have played such an important role? I know I’m not saying anything new (see Nick Eberstadt on the economic effects of the policy), but we cannot remind ourselves too often of what is lost as family sizes have collapsed (through state coercion or, more sadly, voluntarily). Kidnapper Releases 10-Year-Old Who Wouldn’t Stop Singing Gospel Song

A gospel song saved a 10-year-old Atlanta boy from his kidnapper. Willie Myrick said he was in his front yard and bent down to pick up money when somebody grabbed him and threw him in a car.

“He told me he didn’t want to hear a word from me,” Myrick said. That’s when Myrick began to sing a gospel song called “Every Praise is to Our God.” The kidnapper started cursing and repeatedly told Myrick to shut up, but he wouldn’t. He sang the song for about three hours until the kidnapper let him out of the car.

The little boy ran to a nearby home and asked the resident to call his guardian.

Myrick, who was reportedly born to atheist parents, was raised by his godmother Codetta Bateman. (Read more from “Kidnapper Releases 10-Year-Old Who Wouldn’t Stop Singing Gospel Song” HERE)

Farmington Schools: Rosaries ‘Inappropriate’ at School, Against Dress Code

Farmington_Schools_Rosaries_39inappropriate39_at_school_against_dress_code-syndImport-073813For many, the rosary is a symbol of the Catholic faith. But one mom says her daughters are getting sent to the principal’s office just because they’re wearing theirs to school.

“She asked me, ‘do you know what the rosary means?” and I was like, ‘yeah, it’s something I believe in,” said Latanyia Clah. The eighth-grader at Tibbetts Middle School in Farmington says she and her sister Larissa started wearing their rosaries to school after their mom gave them as gifts for Christmas.

“They asked me if I sell drugs because I was wearing my rosary,” said Clah . . .

“The dress code is more, ‘what is appropriate or inappropriate,’ and we have come to the consensus that it is inappropriate,” said Farmington Municipal Schools Assistant Superintendent Frank Stimac.

Stimac says while there was no direct policy against rosaries, after consulting a local priest and finding a prevalence of gang members using rosaries as symbols, school administrators have the right to ask students to stop wearing them — or at least put them inside their shirt. GoFundMe Bans Cops and Christians, but Fund Raises for Child Molesters and Murderers

GoFundMe has officially turned into the left-wing fundraising site. After banning Christian flower store and bakery owners protecting their civil rights from making use of it, it has also banned fundraising for the police officers being lynched by the corrupt Baltimore political establishment . . .

As I pointed out last time, GoFundMe has numerous fundraisers for convicted criminals. Including those convicted of murder.

After my last post went viral, GoFundMe was shamed into removing those fundraisers, but there are still plenty of others, making it quite clear that the site does not proactively take down violations of its Terms of Service except when it involves causes it politically opposes.

A minute in Google took me to a fundraiser for a woman convicted of grand theft, two child molesters and a murderer. If I can find them that quickly in Google, GoFundMe employees could find them a lot faster . . .

GoFundMe takes 5 percent of total donations plus 2.9 percent and 30 cents from every donation. It’s cheaper to just set up a site and fundraise directly. (Read more from “GoFundMe Bans Cops, Fundraises for Child Molesters” HERE)

Teacher Forced to Resign After Calling Obama a Baby Killer

In Georgia, veteran middle school teacher Nancy Perry has been forced to resign after telling her students that President Barack Obama is a baby killer. The schools superintendent, Chuck Ledbetter, said Perry will retire at the end of the school year.

He said, “On behalf of the School District, we want to apologize to the student and to his parents. It is not the place of teachers to attempt to persuade students about religious or political beliefs.’

According to the Daily Mail, a 12-year-old boy brought the complaint against the teacher to his father, Jimmie Scott. Then Scott met with Perry at a parent-teacher conference. He said she showed him some “internet propaganda” and commented, “See, Obama is a baby killer. He aborts babies at nine months old as they’re coming through the birth canal.”‘

Although it could be argued that Perry’s statement was inappropriate considering the setting, her comments about Obama weren’t completely unfounded. From taxpayer funding of abortions in America and around the world, to the stacking of the Supreme Court and federal courts with hardcore abortion advocates, Obama has been a relentless support of abortion-on-demand.

For example, earlier this year, President Obama’s administration issued a veto threat concerning the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would protect babies after 20-weeks from abortion based on the concept that they can feel pain. Oregon House Passes Bill to Charge Teen’s Abortion to Parents’ Insurance Without Them Knowing

Oregon_state_sealA new pro-abortion bill in Oregon has pro-life advocates up in arms and urging pro-life Oregonians to contact their members of the state legislature. And the state House today approved the measure.

Oregon House Democrats voted to further erode parents’ rights in Oregon by passing House Bill 2758, which would allow an enrollee on a health insurance plan to demand that the explanation of benefits not be sent to the primary holder of the insurance policy. This would allow a 15 year old child to obtain an abortion without her parents’ knowledge even though it is paid for by her parents’ insurance policy.

“Involvement in their child’s life is the most important tool parents have to protect their children from abuse,” said Gayle Atteberry, Executive Director of Oregon Right to Life. “But the abortion giant Planned Parenthood has managed to get every Democrat in the House to help them do secret abortions paid for by unknowing parents, endangering children in Oregon.”

Every Republican member of the State House of Representatives opposed HB 2758, citing some of the unintended consequences of the bill. Representative Cedric Hayden carried a minority report for the Republican Caucus. Matt Walsh: U.S. Christians Should Stop Being ‘Lazy Cowards’ in Midst of Persecution

persecuted-christians-in-middle-eastControversial Christian blogger Matt Walsh has written a column urging fellow Christians in the United States to stop being “lazy cowards” in the face of persecution. He had several solutions to combat that apathetic attitude.

His column, which has been posted on The Blaze, first turned to the atrocities ISIS has committed against Christians in the name of Islam. Walsh contended that Christian “persecution” in the U.S. was nowhere near the levels others have faced around the world.

“It might be hard to believe this kind of persecution happens in the world, especially when the American version of ‘persecution’ includes not having access to gender neutral bathrooms,” Walsh wrote. “Out there, people face the very real threat of death and dismemberment if they practice the wrong religion. Here, we whine if a toilet stall feels too exclusionary. Talk about privilege.”

Even with that perspective in mind, Walsh contended that 100 million Christians faced “the daily prospect of violence, intimidation, coercion, oppression, imprisonment and martyrdom.” Those numbers would make Christians, in his view, “the world’s most persecuted people” today.

“Believers are being blown up, incinerated, shot, and beheaded in Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Somalia, Nigeria, Sudan, Egypt, Libya, and many other nations,” Walsh wrote. “And this isn’t relegated solely to Islamic State-controlled countries, or even to Muslim ones.” (Read more from “Matt Walsh: U.S. Christians Should Stop Being ‘Lazy Cowards’ in Midst of Persecution” HERE)

Public Schoolers Rally to Get Religious Message Back on School Sign: “We’re Taking a Stand for the Lord”

A group of student protestors at a Louisiana middle school has succeeded in getting “In God We Trust” back onto its official marquee after the phrase was removed by administrators in response to a tangle with the American Civil Liberties Union.

“We are taking a stand for the lord,” Joey Ketchum, a district parent and local Baptist pastor, told Fox Carolina regarding the protesting students at Ridgewood Middle School in West Shreveport.

The brouhaha began last week, after the ACLU Louisiana wrote an open letter to Caddo Parish superintendent Theodis Lamar Goree regarding official religious statements that had allegedly been made by the principal of another district school, Walnut Hill Elementary.

The principal, said the letter, dated March 30, “has engaged in a pattern of religious proselytization by sending messages to parents invoking prayer, and through a lengthy ‘Principal’s Message’ on the school’s website,” which the ACLU noted is in violation of the First Amendment and U.S. Constitution. “The United States Constitution requires public schools to ensure that state-supported activity is not used for religious indoctrination,” the letter continued. “There is no question that the Principal has violated these legal mandates by repeatedly invoking God, prayer, and Christianity throughout official school publications.” The correspondence urged the principal to stop, for the district to look into the situation, and to “immediately remove all religious references from the website of Walnut Hills and any other schools in the Caddo Parish school district.”

That, apparently, is when Ridgewood removed “In God We Trust” from its marquee — even though the phrase has been ruled as constitutional in many court cases, including a year ago, when a group of atheists and the Freedom From Religion Foundation lost a court fight to have it removed from U.S. currency. The decision of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit referenced many past decisions upholding the use of the phrase, noting, “The Court has recognized in a number of its cases that the motto, and its inclusion in the design of U.S. currency, is a ‘reference to our religious heritage,’” adding that “the printing of ‘In God We Trust’ on our coins serve the secular purposes of solemnizing public occasions, expressing confidence in the future and encouraging the recognition of what is worthy of appreciation in society.” (Read more from “Middle Schoolers Rally to Get Religious Message Back on School Sign” HERE)

RINO Legislator Comes out of Closet After Lewd Pictures on Dating Site Surface [+video]

BOEHNING__RANDY_1695687A conservative North Dakota lawmaker has come out of the closet after lewd texts he sent on a gay dating site were made public this week.

The randy red-state Republican, Rep. Randy Boehning, was outed Monday, more than a month after the Roughrider State legislator sent an unsolicited picture of his penis and several other messages to 21-year-old Bismarck resident Dustin Smith back on March 12 on the gay dating site Grindr, according to multiple reports.

Boehning, a 12-year veteran of North Dakota’s state assembly who has routinely voted against gay rights legislation, charged that the leaked messages were sent to media outlets in retaliation for his vote against Senate Bill 2279, which would have added sexual orientation to the state’s anti-discrimination law. For the third time since 2009, the bill was voted down by conservative North Dakota lawmakers, including Boehning.

But Smith, who first leaked the Grindr messages to The Forum, claims he simply wanted to reveal Boehning’s hypocrisy.

“How can you discriminate against the person you’re trying to pick up?” Smith told the local Bismark-area newspaper on Monday. (Read more from “Lawmaker With Anti-Gay Voting Record Comes out of Closet After Lewd Pictures on Dating Site Surface” HERE)
