VP Harris Botches Juneteenth History Lesson About ‘400 Years of Slavery’

Vice President Kamala Harris bungled a history lesson about the Juneteenth holiday Monday, telling kids that black people were enslaved in America for 400 years — overstating the actual time period by more than 150 years.

“I think that we all know today is a day to celebrate the principle of freedom,” Harris told a group of about two dozen elementary school-age children at the National Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington. “And think about it in terms of the context of history, knowing that black people in America were not free for 400 years of slavery.”

“Let this be a day that is a day to celebrate the principle of freedom, but to speak about it honestly and accurately, both in the context of history and current application,” Harris went on during her apparently extemporaneous remarks.

The first African slaves in the American colonies arrived in 1619 in Virginia. Slavery was abolished through the 13th Amendment, which was ratified in 1865 — ending 246 years of the practice, not 400.

A White House official acknowledged Harris’ error, telling The Post that “the vice president was referring to 400 years since slavery began.” (Read more from “VP Harris Botches Juneteenth History Lesson About ‘400 Years of Slavery’” HERE)

Senate Gun Control Bill Released – Here’s What May Change

By Townhall. A bipartisan working group of U.S. Senators — 10 Democrats and 10 Republicans — finally unveiled the result of their work on federal firearm legislation spurred by the tragic shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, one that increasingly looks to have been worsened by a failure in local authorities’ response.

The text’s release was delayed this week by some last-minute negotiations over a ban on any healthcare-related funds in the bill being used to pay for abortions, but that hurdle was cleared by Tuesday afternoon when the final text was released. . .

As Townhall reported previously, a framework agreement for the bill was reached on June 12 that included “crisis intervention orders” and an “enhanced review period” for purchasers under 21 years old. The framework, even though it contained increased funding for mental health care, safety measures in schools, and training for staff, set off alarm bells for some Second Amendment advocates worried about what would end up in the final text of the bill.

Senators Strike Deal on Gun Control Bill—Here’s What May Change (And What Won’t)

By Forbes. The two lead negotiators on a bipartisan gun control bill announced Tuesday they reached a deal on the language of legislation, which, if passed, would be the most significant federal gun control measures enacted in decades.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), the top Democratic negotiator, said on the Senate floor the bill would fund a federal program to encourage states to invest in red-flag laws, which allow courts to suspend gun access for individuals considered a danger to themselves or others.

The bill would also mandate “enhanced background checks” for gun purchasers under 21, including “a call to the local police department” to rule out buyers law enforcement suspects could pose a threat, according to Murphy.

Murphy and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said the bill closes what’s known as the “boyfriend” loophole by prohibiting those convicted of misdemeanor non-spousal domestic abuse from purchasing a firearm for at least five years. . .

A “historic investment in mental health,” funding for school-based health centers and new statutes to prevent gun trafficking are also in the bill, Murphy said. (Read more from “Senators Strike Deal on Gun Control Bill—Here’s What May Change (And What Won’t)” HERE)

Gun Owner Shoots Woman in Self-Defense Inside Grocery Store: Reports

A woman who was being assaulted inside an Iowa grocery store shot her attacker with a legally owned gun in what police called an act of self-defense, according to reports.

The woman says she fired one round Sunday morning because she was “blindsided, beat up and put in a headlock” inside the Hy-Vee food store in Des Moines, KCCI 8 reported, citing Des Moines police.

The alleged attacker, identified by police as Kapri Francis, 30, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg after she launched a “totally unprovoked attack” at the legally armed woman, police said, according to KCCI 8.

A male customer was also injured after the bullet ricocheted and hit him in the foot, the report said.

Police said the two women involved know each other, according to KCCI 8. (Read more from “Gun Owner Shoots Woman in Self-Defense Inside Grocery Store: Reports” HERE)

The Fed’s Cure for Inflation Is a Major Punch in the Gut

If you think runaway inflation is brutal, wait until you get hit by the cure.

Last week the Federal Reserve raised the interest rate on money it lends to other banks by .75%, the biggest hike in three decades. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said the hike is necessary to rein in skyrocketing inflation.

He’s planning more hikes in the coming months. They’ll lead to increased interest charges on credit cards and higher rates on home-equity loans, car loans and mortgages. It’s a punch in the gut for people who need to borrow.

Get ready for the interest rates on your credit cards to top a budget-busting 20% two monthly statements from now — up from a current average of 14.6%.

If you’re shopping for a home or a car, adjust your expectations downward. Whatever you thought you could afford, you’ll now be able to afford less because monthly payments will include significantly higher interest costs. If Dems Were Serious, Adam Schiff Wouldn’t Be on Jan. 6 Committee

The day Adam Schiff was named to the “Jan. 6” committee is the day we knew the investigation was going to be a frivolous partisan sideshow. As a political strategy, placing an inveterate fabulist like Schiff on the committee only ensured that it wouldn’t have credibility with Republicans—presumably the people Democrats want to convince.

With dwindling national interest in the proceedings, Schiff went on TV this weekend and announced that the Jan. 6 Committee was in possession of evidence that Donald Trump had hatched a “fake elector plot” (another scheme that had absolutely no chance of working. The more we see the evidence, the more it’s apparent that the system was working). When asked to clarify his contention, Schiff said he did not “want to get ahead of our hearing.” Priming your base for Trump’s arrest—again— is almost surely getting beyond the hearings. But then, Democrats have been overplaying the Trump hand since 2015. The Jan. 6 Committee has become a political version of “Lost,” always a cliffhanger and never a payoff.

What we do know is that Schiff says he has evidence he probably doesn’t. Let’s remember, Schiff was the one who read the Steele Dossier, among other fabrications, into the congressional record—even though he was aware that it was a partisan oppo file paid for by the DNC and shopped by Hillary Clinton partisans with her blessing. On numerous occasions, and with great certitude, Schiff told the media that the central assertion of the dossier was not only conceivable because of Trump’s words, but a fact. And not only did he famously claim to be in personal possession of a “smoking gun” that would prove collusion, he said he had an “abundance” of incriminating evidence.

As the fake Russiagate story fizzled out, Schiff refused to share proof of a seditious, clandestine plot against America. Not in his speeches. Not in Congress. Not on CNN. Not in his self-serving memoir. When then-“View” co-host Meghan McCain asked Schiff about it, the congressman said it had been in “plain sight” the entire time, which is opposite of what he asserted previously. Pro-Impeachment Republicans Face Uncertain Futures Ahead of Midterms

More than a year after they broke with the vast majority of their party to support President Donald Trump’s impeachment, a handful of Republican members of Congress is fighting uphill battles to keep their seats.

Voters will soon decide the fates of five of the 10 GOP House members who cast votes in favor of Trump’s second impeachment in 2021.

Four of the 10 have said they’ll retire rather than seek reelection in the post-Trump environment.

Another, Rep. Tom Rice (SC), has already faced voters in the primaries and discovered just how costly crossing Trump can be: He lost against a Trump-backed challenger earlier this month. Rice, like some of the other Republican impeachment backers, remained critical of Trump months after the impeachment battle had concluded.

Each of the five Republicans fighting to remain in Congress this year is facing circumstances unique to his or her district. (Read more from “Pro-Impeachment Republicans Face Uncertain Futures Ahead of Midterms” HERE)

Grocery Store Bends Knee, Promptly Removes Pro-Gun Products After Dem Politician Complains: ‘Go Woke, Go Broke’

Kroger and Harris Teeter, a grocery store chain owned by Kroger, are facing backlash after yanking pro-America products from store shelves over a single complaint.

Christy Clark, a Democrat who is campaigning for the North Carolina House of Representatives, complained Monday over pro-America products being sold at her local Harris Teeter grocery store.

The politically incorrect products she targeted were drink koozies. One featured a bald eagle holding a rifle in its talons with the caption, “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death,” while the other featured Thomas Jefferson holding an AR-style rifle with the caption, “Arms Change, Rights Don’t.” . . .

Harris Teeter responded to Clark’s demand in less than four hours, explaining they would remove the products from their stores.

“Thanks for reaching out, Christy. As soon as these items were brought to our attention we put a recall request into place and these items are being removed from all store locations. We appreciate your concern,” Harris Teeter said.

TX Police Commander: Uvalde Gunman Could’ve Been Stopped in Three Minutes

The head of the Texas Department of Public Safety on Tuesday called the police response to the Uvalde school shooting an “abject failure,” adding that the shooter could have been apprehended within three minutes of entering Robb Elementary School as officers waited for “a key that was not needed.”

An 18-year-old male, who will not be named per Daily Wire policy, killed 19 students and two teachers at the elementary school on May 24.

“There’s compelling evidence that the law enforcement response to the attack at Robb Elementary was an abject failure and antithetical to everything we’ve learned over the last two decades since the Columbine massacre,” said Col. Steve McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

“Three minutes after the subject entered the West building, there was sufficient number of armed officers wearing body armor to isolate, distract, and neutralize the subject,” McCraw continued. “The only thing stopping the hallway of dedicated officers from entering room 111 and 112 was the on-scene commander who decided to place the lives of officers before the lives of children.” (Read more from “TX Police Commander: Uvalde Gunman Could’ve Been Stopped in Three Minutes” HERE)

Twitter Board Unanimously Approves Elon Musk’s $44BN Bid

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR)’s board said Tuesday that it unanimously accepts Elon Musk’s $44 billion takeover bid and recommends that shareholders approve it at a future meeting. The information was made public via a document by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). . .

As reported by the New York Post, the Twitter board unanimously, “has determined that the merger agreement is advisable and that the merger and the other transactions contemplated in the merger agreement are fair, advisable, and in the best interest of Twitter and its shareholders”, according to a filing to the regulator.

Musk, meanwhile, remains unconvinced he will actually buy Twitter at the promised price, as shares are trading well below his $54.2 offer and he continues to fuel uncertainty. At an event organized by Bloomberg in Doha on Tuesday, the tech billionaire said there are still three issues to be resolved to close the purchase: fake accounts, financing, and approval by shareholders. Whoops! White House Slip Up: Biden Has Prepared Americans to ‘Deal With a Recession’

The White House indicated Tuesday they are preparing for an economic recession, despite President Joe Biden’s assertion that it is “not inevitable.”

When asked about a possible recession in the United States economy, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre praised the president for his economic agenda.

“We see that our economic strength that we have seen from this past year from the action that the president has taken with the American Rescue Plan with what we have seen with the historic gains, that is going to help us deal with the recession,” she said before correcting herself during the daily press briefing on Tuesday.

“Right now, we don’t see a recession right now,” Jean-Pierre added. “We are not in a recession right now. Right now, we are in a transition.” (Read more from “Whoops! White House Slip Up: Biden Has Prepared Americans to ‘Deal With a Recession’” HERE)
