Poor Oral Hygiene Linked to Tripled Risk of Pancreatic Cancer, New Study Finds

That unbrushed mouth may be doing more than turning people away — it could be quietly raising your risk of one of the deadliest forms of cancer.

A major new study from NYU Langone Health and its Perlmutter Cancer Center has identified more than two dozen microbes in the mouth that may significantly increase the risk of pancreatic cancer, a disease notorious for its low survival rate and late detection. The findings, published in JAMA Oncology, suggest that oral hygiene may play a far more critical role in cancer prevention than previously thought.

The research tracked 122,000 individuals over nine years, analyzing their saliva for bacterial and fungal DNA. Comparing data from 445 pancreatic cancer patients with 445 matched cancer-free individuals, researchers discovered 24 species of bacteria and fungi that appeared to alter pancreatic cancer risk — either increasing or decreasing it. Of those, 27 microbes in total were linked to a more than threefold increase in risk.

“It is clearer than ever that brushing and flossing your teeth may not only help prevent periodontal disease but may also protect against cancer,” said co-senior author Dr. Richard Hayes, professor in the Department of Population Health at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

The study proposes a mechanism as unsettling as it is fascinating: harmful oral microbes may travel from the mouth to the pancreas via swallowed saliva. Once there, they may contribute to inflammation or immune dysregulation, potentially creating a microenvironment favorable to cancer growth.

“Our findings provide new insight into the relationship between the oral microbiome and pancreatic cancer,” said lead author Yixuan Meng, a postdoctoral fellow at NYU. “These microbes could be influencing tumor development through systemic inflammation or by altering immune responses in the pancreas.”

Some of the bacteria flagged in the study are already known culprits in gum disease — a chronic infection that damages the soft tissue and bone supporting the teeth. Gum disease itself has been previously linked to systemic inflammation and an increased risk of several illnesses, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

This new research adds pancreatic cancer to that growing list. The inflammatory markers released by the bacteria involved in periodontal disease may contribute to a “pro-tumor environment,” the study suggests.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov flatly rejected President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Ukraine.

Lavrov said territorial swaps would not “stop” Moscow’s campaign in a Tuesday meeting with foreign ambassadors, directly contradicting Trump’s proposal. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) noted Trump recently argued peace would require land concessions. Lavrov also dismissed U.S. offers to restore trade ties as an incentive for Vladimir Putin.

He insisted any deal must resolve what the Kremlin calls the war’s “root causes,” which ISW analysts interpret as installing a pro-Russian government in Kiev, forcing Ukrainian neutrality and blocking NATO’s Open Door Policy.

Lavrov warned that Russia would view any European troops stationed in a postwar Ukraine as “legitimate military targets.” The threat echoed earlier declarations from senior Kremlin figures rejecting Western security guarantees for Kiev, according to ISW. By Daily Caller. Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of murdering Charlie Kirk, was fixated on a pornographic “furry” video game and followed artists producing underage-themed cartoons, according to a Daily Mail investigation Wednesday.

Robinson’s online footprint shows he downloaded a Steam title called “Furry Shades of Gay” — a dating simulator advertised as a mix of “hot gay sex and slapstick humor” featuring cartoon animals — and kept tabs on furry artists who admitted producing “cub” material, the subculture’s euphemism for child-coded porn, according to the Mail.

“Furry Shades of Gay is a game about love, queer relationships, hot gay sex and slapstick humor,” the Steam listing states. “Win match-3 challenges, and get ready for 24 hot animated VOICED sex scenes!”

The Mail linked Robinson to a Steam account that played the title enough to earn an “uncommon sticker” — an in-game collectable awarded only to diehard players — under the name “craftin247.” The same moniker appears across multiple platforms, including on FurAffinity, where the account’s “recently watched” list included “RedRusker,” an artist who admitted to drawing “about a dozen or so” underage-themed pieces in a 2023 post.

Charlie Kirk assassination suspect Tyler Robinson sought ‘gentle’ surrender, feared being shot

By Fox News. More details have emerged about how alleged Charlie Kirk assassin Tyler Robinson was turned over to police while the manhunt for a suspect ensued.

Washington County Sheriff Nate Brooksby said at a news conference Wednesday he received a call from a former law enforcement friend telling him Robinson, 22, was the shooter. Robinson reportedly had suicidal thoughts but was convinced by his parents not to harm himself.

Brooksby said Robinson knew he would be caught and was afraid of a SWAT raid on his home. He was also afraid of being shot by the police, the sheriff said.

“Tyler knew it was just inevitable with all the law enforcement pressure that he, his picture in the news, the gun, the gun on the news,” he said. “He knew it was inevitable that he would be caught.”

Federal Reserve Cuts Interest Rates a Quarter Point as US Job Market Wobbles

The Federal Reserve cut interest rates by a quarter point as central bankers said worries about a wobbly US job market have begun to outweigh anxieties over inflation.

Eleven of the Fed’s 12 central bankers voted for the regular-size cut including Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, who has spent most of the year deflecting attacks from President Trump over his refusal to lower rates.

The exception was Stephen Miran, who instead voted for a jumbo-size, half-point cut — one day after he left his position as Trump’s economic adviser to become a Fed governor.

Central bankers have been delaying rate cuts over fears that tariffs could reheat inflation, which has shown signs of picking up over the summer. Consumer spending has likewise been resilient despite Trump’s tariffs.

Fed Chairman Jerome Powell called Wednesday’s decision a “risk-management cut” as policymakers confront a “very different picture of the risks to the labor market” following major downward revisions to job growth earlier this month. American commentator and author Candance Owens has made startling claims against billionaire hedge fund manager and Trump ally Bill Ackman and The Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon. Owens alleged a “high-stakes intervention” involving the two and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk took place just weeks before his tragic assassination.

The six-minute clip has already garnered more than 1.2 million views and sparked intense debate across platforms. Known for her [anti-Israel] stances, Candance Owens alleged that there was a “tense” meeting in the Hamptons where Ackman allegedly pressured Kirk over his views on Israel.

Owens alleged in a video and social media posts that Ackman, Kirk, and Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon participated in an “intense intervention” where “threats were made” to influence Kirk’s stance on Israel.

She also claimed that Kirk had been offered “a ton of money” and had been contacted by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Kirk reportedly declined the invitation. “I know that Charlie was offered a significant amount of money during that time… a ton of money,” Owens stated.

She also mentioned reaching out to Dillon for comment on the story, but he did not respond. She displayed a screenshot of a post where Ackman praises Kirk as a “giant of a man” after their meeting, contrasting it with her claims of coercion. Four Arrested After Trump and Epstein Image Projected on Windsor Castle

Giant projections of President Donald Trump alongside convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein were beamed onto Windsor Castle late Tuesday night leading to the arrest of four people.

The arrests were made on “suspicion of malicious communications” after a selection of images featuring the two appeared on the historic landmark ahead of Trump’s arrival for his unprecedented second state visit, Thames Valley Police said.

Trump is the only president to be invited for two state visits, the first being in 2019. The year before that, he met the late Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle during a working visit.

The BBC reports those arrested were a 60-year-old from East Sussex, a 36-year-old and a 50-year-old from London alongside a 37-year-old from Kent.

The force said an investigation was under way after officers responded “swiftly” to stop the projection on the castle, where Trump will meet King Charles during the first full day of his state visit on Wednesday. Fire Chief on Administrative Leave over ‘Incendiary’ Post After Charlie Kirk’s Assassination

Anthony P. Luke, chief of the Cleveland Division of Fire, has been placed on administrative leave after publicly posting “incendiary” remarks following the horrific public assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

According to Fox 8, which confirmed that Luke has been placed on leave, the now-deleted Facebook post contained a cartoon image of a rifle with the caption, “Bring out the next sacrifice!!” following Kirk’s assassination, which occurred during a speaking event at Utah Valley University on September 10.

Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb, a Democrat, confirmed that the post was brought to his attention, asserting that it fundamentally “romanticizes gun violence, a matter far too serious in a city where we mourn too many families every week, too many lives cut short, and too many children denied safe sleep in their beds.”

The mayor said he believes in free speech and that the First Amendment “protects every individual’s right to express opinions—even those that are unpopular, provocative, or difficult to hear.”

Tyler Robinson Emotionless, Wearing ‘Suicide Smock’ in First Virtual Court Appearance Since Charlie Kirk Assassination

By New York Post. Tyler Robinson appeared on video from his Utah prison cell for a virtual hearing before District Judge Tony Graf early Tuesday evening, looking emotionless in a green “suicide smock,” and not speaking except to state his name.

The suspect in the assassination of Charlie Kirk stared blankly ahead as the judge read out the seven charges against him, sporting slightly mussed locks, several days’ worth of facial hair, and wearing a vest similar to the one he wore in his released mug shot.

Judge Graf said the court determined Robinson, 22, was “indigent,” and therefore had been appointed an attorney.

Robinson nodded slightly several times throughout the 10-minute hearing, including as the judge said he would remain in custody without bail.

Prosecutor Chad Grunander said the state had filed a pre-trial protective order on behalf of Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, which Judge Graf accepted. The reason for the request was not immediately known. Tyler Robinson’s roommate, Lance Twiggs, a biological male that identified as transgender who was in a romantic relationship with Robinson, provided evidence including a series of text messages from Robinson on September 10, 2025.

Prosecutors say Twiggs received a text message from Robinson which said, “drop what you are doing, look under my keyboard.”

Twiggs looked under the keyboard and found a note that stated, “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”

Police found a photograph of this note. Prosecutors say the following text exchange then took place: After reading the note, Twiggs responded, “What?????????????? You’re joking, right????”

Robinson: I am still ok my love, but am stuck in orem for a little while longer yet. Shouldn’t be long until I can come home, but I gotta grab my rifle still. To be honest I had hoped to keep this secret till I died of old age. I am sorry to involve you.
