Biden Administration Fully Cancels Some Student Loan Debt After Reversing Trump Policy

The Department of Education took new steps last week to provide certain federal student loan borrowers complete debt relief. . .

Perhaps preparing to take even larger steps in the near future, the Education Department said student loan borrowers can apply for full debt cancellation if their college engaged in fraud or other financial misconduct.

The government estimates that $1 billion in student loans will receive “cancellation” as a result, which will benefit 72,000 borrowers.

“Borrowers deserve a simplified and fair path to relief when they have been harmed by their institution’s misconduct,” Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said. “A close review of these claims and the associated evidence showed these borrowers have been harmed and we will grant them a fresh start from their debt. . .

With 9/11-Style Commission Stalled, Pelosi Plans Completely Partisan Probe of Capitol Riot

With her pipe dream of launching a bipartisan “independent 9/11-type commission” to investigate the circumstances surrounding the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol foiled, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) is reportedly moving on to a “Plan B” that won’t require Republican cooperation.

The House speaker is said to be making arrangements for an entirely partisan probe to unearth the secret influences that she believes led to the incident, which Democratic lawmakers view as an attempted insurrection and a domestic terror attack instigated by former President Donald Trump.

In the new plan, according to Politico, Pelosi aims to effectively cut Republican influence out of the process by “tapping three House committees, run by Democrats, to do their own probe of how a violent, pro-Trump mob managed to overwhelm police and terrorize legislators.”

So much for bipartisanship. Though it should be noted Pelosi’s draft proposal for the grand commission would have given Democrats a 7-4 majority on the investigatory panel, anyway. In addition to that, Republicans in Congress suspected from the start that any 9/11-style commission into the incident spearheaded by Democrats would quickly turn into a political witch hunt. Sins of the Father? Biden Inauguration Priest Under Investigation

The Jesuit priest who officiated then-President-elect Joe Biden’s inaugural Mass — and has been a family friend for almost 15 years — is under investigation for unspecified allegations and is now on leave from his position as president of Santa Clara University in California, according to the college.

The Rev. Kevin O’Brien allegedly “exhibited behaviors in adult settings, consisting primarily of conversations, which may be inconsistent with established Jesuit protocols and boundaries,” according to a statement by John Sobrato, chairman of the college’s board of trustees.

Sobrato’s statement did not specify the allegations against O’Brien but said the trustees “support those who came forward to share their accounts.”

Congressman Calls for Veterans, Servicemen Who Stormed Capitol to Be Stripped of Benefits

Arizona Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego announced a proposal Friday to strip benefits for active or retired military members who participated in the Capitol Riot on January 6, according to Stars and Stripes.

Gallego wrote a letter to the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Secretary Denis McDonough and other top military officials March 18, stating, “Unfortunately, many veterans led or participated in this insurrection. Reporting suggests that nearly 20% of the insurrectionists were either veterans or military retirees, including some of the most violent members of the mob.”

The VA currently offers benefits such as disability and educational benefits, and access to health care, Stars and Stripes reported.

Now Democrats Going to War Against Democrats

As expected during the run-up to the 2020 election, a battle is brewing over the filibuster, the longtime Senate rule requiring 60 votes to move forward on legislation.

With a one-vote majority because of Vice President Kamala Harris’ tiebreaker, there’s a renewed demand from Democrats to blow up the filibuster to move partisan legislation such as the Equality Act and the For the People Act.

President Biden, when he was a senator, affirmed the rule. Now in the Oval Office, he’s changed his mind.

The Democrats’ biggest hurdle is moderate Democrats Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, who want to maintain it.

Democrats Ban White Farmers From Federal COVID Relief Program

Last week, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act into law. The bill, comprised of $1.9 trillion in the name of “COVID relief,” received no support from Republicans in the House or Senate, and it’s not hard to see why. . .

What most don’t know about this bill, however, is the small provision known as “Section 1005” that authorizes the secretary of agriculture to make payments of 100 to 120 percent of the “outstanding indebtedness of socially disadvantaged farmers.” Under this provision, those included in the socially disadvantaged category are American Indians, Alaskan Natives, Asians, Blacks, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and Hispanics.

Putting aside all of the Washington jargon that makes little sense outside of a committee hearing room, this provision—specifically written into the American Rescue Plan by Democrats—pushes a blurred vision of so-called “social equity” by providing relief for farmers based on the color of their skin. Rather than offering much needed relief to all farmers, Sec. 1005 prioritizes race, just as it would ethnicity, sex, or any other factor.

It bears repeating: Sec. 1005 focuses debt relief on farmers based on their race, not based on how harshly the pandemic has affected them—the very reason for relief in the first place. Ironically, this racial discrimination is the very focus of what officials at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have worked so hard to combat.

The 1999 Supreme Court case Pigford v. Glickman handled this very issue when a class-action discrimination suit against the USDA by black farmers found true discrimination on the basis of race that subsequently resulted in cash relief, debt relief, and tax payments. In the years since, the case has provided billions to claimants due to proven discrimination within the department. Twitter Unsuspends Marjorie Taylor Greene

Twitter unsuspended Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s account Friday, saying that it had mistakenly locked her out of it following a system false-positive.

After restoring Greene’s access to her account, the social media giant told CNBC in a statement that Twitter’s AI-based rules enforcement system mistook Greene’s account to be in violation of the platform’s policies.

“We use a combination of technology and human review to enforce the Twitter Rules across the service,” Twitter said. “In this case, our automated systems took enforcement action on the account referenced in error. This action has been reversed, and access to the account has been reinstated.”

By New York Post. Biden made the comments about Putin during an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America” following the release of a declassified report from the Director of National Intelligence that claimed the Kremlin interfered in the presidential election.

“He will pay a price. We had a long talk, he and I, I know him relatively well,” Biden said. “And the conversation started off, I said, ‘I know you and you know me. If I establish this occurred, then be prepared.’ ”

“Look, the most important thing dealing with foreign leaders in my experience — and I’ve dealt with an awful lot in my career — is just know the other guy.”

Asked if he thinks Putin is “a killer,” Biden responded, “I do.” . . .

Putin to Biden After ‘Killer’ Comments: ‘It Takes One to Know One’

By New York Post. Russian President Vladimir Putin said “it takes one to know one” and wished President Biden “good health” after Biden referred to his Russian counterpart as a “killer.”

Putin’s comments, which aired on Russian state TV, come as the Kremlin demanded that Biden apologize for his “killer” remark and Moscow recalled its ambassador to Washington, DC, in retaliation.

In an interview on ABC Wednesday, anchor George Stephanopoulos asked Biden if he believes Putin is a “killer.”

Biden responded: “I do.”

“I remember in my childhood, when we argued in the courtyard, we used to say: It takes one to know one. And that’s not a coincidence, not just a children’s saying or joke,” Putin said. “We always see our own traits in other people and think they are like how we really are. Whistleblower: TSA Skirting ID Requirements for Illegal Aliens

Illegal aliens are being allowed to fly with domestic airliners without a proper form of identification, a Border Patrol union president in Texas is warning.

According to Hector Garza, the President of National Border Patrol Council Local 2455 in Laredo, President Joe Biden’s catch and release policies have resulted in illegal aliens skirting TSA’s ID requirements. Garza said illegal aliens are utilizing Notice to Appear paperwork as a form of ID, something he warns “could easily be reproduced or manipulated on any home computer.”

“The Notice to Appear form has no photo, anyone can make one and manipulate one. They do not have any security features, no watermark, nothing. They are simply printed on standard copy paper based on the information the illegal alien says is the truth,” Garza said in a Facebook post.

One of the Lockdowns’ Greatest Casualties Could Be Science

The COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns have not only been devastating for society, they have had a chilling effect on the scientific community. For science to thrive, opposing ideas must be openly and vigorously discussed, supported, or countered based on scientific merit.

Instead, some politicians, journalists, and (alas) scientists have engaged in vicious slander of dissident scientists, spreading damaging conspiracy theories, even with open calls for censorship in place of debate. In many cases, eminent scientific voices have been effectively silenced, often with gutter tactics. People who oppose lockdowns have been accused of having blood on their hands, their university positions threatened, with many of our colleagues choosing to stay quiet rather than face the mob. . .

Dr. Scott Atlas served as a special advisor to the president on COVID policy between July and November 2020. This would be a difficult job in normal circumstances when the science is more mature.

With his background in public health policy, Atlas’s advice emphasized balancing risks imposed by viral spread against collateral public health harms from the lockdowns in a rapidly changing scientific and policy environment. Scientists who did not share his views had every opportunity to do so responsibly by reporting scientific facts and conjectures and engaging with his ideas.

Instead, the Journal of the American Medical Association—the flagship medical journal in the United States—published an opinion article defaming him without engaging his actual scientific views.
