‘Hardcore Leftist’ Charged With Plotting Violence at State Capitol May Have Ties To Terror Group

By Washington Journal. A Florida man and reportedly self-described “hardcore leftist” was arrested Friday after he called for violent protests Sunday at the Florida state Capitol in Tallahassee.

Daniel Baker of Tallahassee, who prosecutors said was once a member in a group registered by the federal government as a terrorist organization, was seeking to organize an attack on any protesters who might show up at the Florida Capitol on Sunday.

Baker is charged with “transmission in interstate commerce [of] a communication containing a threat to kidnap any person or threat to injure the person of another,” according to a criminal complaint. FBI Arrests Self-Proclaimed ‘Hardcore Leftist’ Who Allegedly Threatened Violence at State Capitol

By Washington Examiner. Federal law enforcement officials arrested a self-proclaimed “hardcore leftist” who had reportedly made a series of calls for violence ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration. . .

He had purportedly issued calls for people to confront any protesters who would gather at the state capitol on Sunday with violence, specifically mentioning firearms.

Baker, who apparently had a history of expressing his belief in violent tactics, had reputedly ramped up his rhetoric on social media in recent weeks. The former U.S. Army Airborne infantryman promoted his plan to disrupt protests violently before Biden gets sworn into office, according to the Justice Department.

A lengthy criminal affidavit written by an FBI special agent detailed some of the threats allegedly made by Baker in the wake of the Capitol siege that left five dead, including a Capitol police officer, and had led to dozens of arrests, with Baker expressing anger toward the police as well as toward Trump supporters.

A Facebook event page created by Baker on Tuesday titled “Defend Tallahassee” laid out an apparent plan by Baker to try to confront, encircle, and trap any pro-Trump activists who showed up to protest at the Florida Capitol on Sunday. Major Twist in U.S. Capitol Storming Might Have Gutted the Democrats’ Narrative on Trump Impeachment

. . .[A]fter the articles were passed after a day of political theater from these clowns, we’re getting reports that this whole incident may have been pre-planned. Yes, our great and hopelessly anti-Trump FBI finally came in promptly to drop this development after the Democrats had set this “remove Trump” train into motion. And of all outlets, CNN was the one to report on it:

Evidence uncovered so far, including weapons and tactics seen on surveillance video, suggests a level of planning that has led investigators to believe the attack on the US Capitol was not just a protest that spiraled out of control, a federal law enforcement official says.

Among the evidence the FBI is examining are indications that some participants at the Trump rally at the Ellipse, outside the White House, left the event early, perhaps to retrieve items to be used in the assault on the Capitol.

A team of investigators and prosecutors are also focused on the command and control aspect of the attack, looking at travel and communications records to determine if they can build a case that is similar to a counterterrorism investigation, the official said.

Democrat Fears National Guard Might To ‘Do Something’ To Stop Biden

The “virtual” inauguration for Joe Biden on Wednesday will be anything but normal.

Already, 25,000 National Guard troops have been dispatched to Washington, D.C., in response to the Jan. 6 riot.

On Monday, an inauguration rehearsal was interrupted because of a fire in a nearby homeless camp.

Now, a House Democrat from Tennessee, Rep. Steve Cohen, is expressing distrust of the Guard troops.

“The Guard is 90-some-odd percent, I believe, male. Only about 20% of white males voted for Biden,” Cohen told CNN. “You gotta figure that in the Guard, which is predominantly more conservative, and I see that on my social media … they’re probably not more than 25% of the people that are there protecting us who voted for Biden. Trump Will Not Invite the Bidens to the White House Before Inauguration

President Donald Trump will not invite President-elect Joe Biden to the White House ahead of the inauguration Wednesday, according to reports.

Typically, the sitting president invites his successor to the White House ahead of the inauguration. The sitting first lady welcomes the incoming first lady for tea and a tour of the building.

Both President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama welcomed the Trumps to the White House ahead of the inauguration ceremony after President Donald Trump beat former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Few expected Trump to invite Biden after announcing he would not attend the inauguration. (Read more from “Trump Will Not Invite the Bidens To the White House Before Inauguration” HERE)

Biden To Block Trump’s Plan To Lift COVID-19 European Travel Restrictions

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden plans to quickly extend travel restrictions barring travel by most people who have recently been in much of Europe and Brazil soon after President Donald Trump lifted those requirements effective Jan. 26, a spokeswoman for Biden said.

Trump signed an order Monday lifting the restrictions he imposed early last year in response to the pandemic – a decision first reported Monday by Reuters – after winning support from coronavirus task force members and public health officials.

Soon after Trump’s order was made public, Biden spokeswoman Jen Psaki tweeted “on the advice of our medical team, the Administration does not intend to lift these restrictions on 1/26.”

She added that “With the pandemic worsening, and more contagious variants emerging around the world, this is not the time to be lifting restrictions on international travel.”

Until Biden acts, Trump’s order ends restrictions the same day that new COVID-19 test requirements take effect for all international visitors. Trump is due to leave office on Wednesday. (Read more from “Biden To Block Trump’s Plan To Lift COVID-19 European Travel Restrictions” HERE)

Several Trump Accomplishments Likely To Remain Intact Under Biden

Despite President-elect Joe Biden’s intention to create a clean break from the Trump era, several of the current administration’s major accomplishments are likely to remain intact for the foreseeable future.

Biden, who is set to be inaugurated later this week, has been signaling for months that when he enters the White House, his administration will take a bevy of steps to indicate a national “turning point” has occurred. The president-elect’s intentions were further confirmed on Saturday when a memo made public by his incoming chief of staff, Ron Klain, outlined a blitz of executive orders the Biden administration would issue in its first 10 days in office. . .

Regardless of the rhetoric emanating from the president-elect and his incoming chief of staff, a number of President Donald Trump’s major accomplishments are likely to remain intact under the new administration. . .

During the 2016 presidential race, Trump captured the White House, in part, thanks to the defection of blue-collar workers from the industrial midwest. Although such voters had backed Democrats for decades, polling showed that they were drawn to Trump’s populist stand on issues like trade and manufacturing. That election cycle, Trump’s harangues against the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and other free trade agreements, led to narrow victories in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan — states that put Republicans over the top in the electoral college, despite a three-million popular vote deficit. . .

Another potential policy that the incoming Biden administration will choose to keep in place is the Opportunity Zone program created by the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Opportunity Zones, which were proposed by Sens. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Cory Booker (D-NJ), are meant to encourage investment and job creation in low-income areas across the country. Armed Demonstrations Unfold in Statehouses Ahead of Inauguration Day; FBI Vetting National Guard Troops in DC Over Insider Attack Concerns

By New York Post. Armed demonstrators assembled outside the capitols of several states on Sunday, as all 50 states and Washington, DC braced for possible violence ahead of Inauguration Day — but the events were muted and devoid of violence.

In Columbus, Ohio, about 50 supporters of President Trump — some bearing assault rifles and other firearms — escorted a “Liberty or Death” flag to the statehouse around 11 a.m., according to USA Today. . .

About 200 miles away in Lansing, Michigan, a handful of gun-toting demonstrators affiliated with various right-wing and anarchist militias rallied outside the statehouse, according to The Detroit Free Press. . .

At the Texas Capitol in Austin, around 100 protesters showed up. One, carrying an AR-15 rifle, condemned those who stormed the US Capitol in DC.

“All we came down here to do today was to discuss, gather, network and hang out. And it got blown and twisted completely out of proportion,” said Ben Hawk. (Read more from “Armed Demonstrations Unfold in Statehouses Ahead of Inauguration Day” HERE)

By New York Post. The FBI is vetting every National Guard member stationed in the nation’s capital for Inauguration Day after concerns of a possible attack from within the ranks.

The vetting process, spurned by worries from defense officials, was confirmed by Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy in an interview with The Associated Press.

”We’re continually going through the process, and taking second, third looks at every one of the individuals assigned to this operation,” McCarthy said. (Read more from “FBI Vetting National Guard Troops in DC Over Insider Attack Concerns” HERE)

Small Group of Armed Protesters Gathers at Oregon Capitol

By Oregon Live. A handful of armed demonstrators gathered outside the Oregon Capitol on Sunday morning, part of a nationally publicized day of statehouse protests that mostly failed to materialize.

Some of the roughly 15 demonstrators carried long guns and wore body armor and helmets. But even as some counter-protesters appeared, there was no confrontation, with some in both camps conversing.

Several wore Hawaiian shirts, a symbol of the antigovernment “boogaloo” movement, whose adherents anticipate — or in some cases plan to incite — a second civil war. One Hawaiian-shirted man, who called himself AJ and carried a gun, told a reporter he no longer claims association with that movement, adding, “I just stand with liberty for all.” (Read more from “Small Group of Armed Protesters Gathers at Oregon Capitol” HERE)

Cowboys for Trump Founder Arrested After Leading Capitol Rioters in Prayer

A New Mexico county official was arrested Sunday after federal authorities said he entered a restricted section of the U.S. Capitol during the deadly pro-Trump incursion and led rioters in prayer.

Couy Griffin, an Otero County commissioner and founder of Cowboys for Trump, was arrested in Washington. D.C., and faces a single charge of knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building without lawful authority, a federal criminal complaint said.

In an affidavit, a Metropolitan Police detective said a Cowboys for Trump videographer told authorities that after he and Griffin saw the group push past security barriers, they scaled the Capitol building’s wall before making their way to an outside deck.

There, Griffin used a bullhorn to lead the group in prayer, the document states. (Read more from “Cowboys for Trump Founder Arrested After Leading Capitol Rioters in Prayer” HERE)

DNI: China ‘Sought To Influence’ 2020 US Election

Director of National Intelligence (DNI) John Ratcliffe assessed that China interfered in the 2020 federal elections, according to a letter transmitted to Congress.

In the letter (pdf), Ratcliffe alleges that intelligence about China’s election interference was suppressed by management at the CIA, which pressured analysts to withdraw their support for the view.

Citing a report by the Intelligence Community’s analytic ombudsman Barry Zulauf, the director of national intelligence said that some analysts were reluctant to describe China’s actions as election interference because they disagreed with the policies of President Donald Trump.

The Washington Examiner published Ratcliffe’s letter and the ombudsman report on Jan. 17, 10 days after publishing an original report on the documents. The ODNI didn’t immediately respond to requests from The Epoch Times to authenticate the documents.

“Based on all available sources of intelligence, with definitions consistently applied, and reached independent of political considerations or undue pressure—that the People’s Republic of China sought to influence the 2020 U.S. federal elections,” Ratcliffe wrote.
