Ilhan Omar Introduces Bill to Block Trump From Implementing ‘Muslim Ban’

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) introduced a bill intended to remove the legal justification for a “Muslim ban,” which President Donald Trump promised during his 2016 presidential election.

Omar released a statement on Thursday about the bill that would repeal the Alien Enemies Act, which the president used as precedent to justify his travel ban.

“This outdated and xenophobic law is an offense to our values as a nation, which should stand as a refuge for those fleeing violence and persecution,” Omar said.

“It is a perfect example of outdated immigration laws that are being exploited and abused by this Administration. As the President seeks to expand the Muslim Ban, we must close policy loopholes that he can exploit to cause harm to our neighbors, our country and the values that we hold dear,” she continued.

“We must learn from historical mistakes built on fear of the other and embrace a fair and just immigration system by repealing the Alien Enemies Act,” Omar concluded. (Read more from “Ilhan Omar Introduces Bill to Block Trump From Implementing ‘Muslim Ban'” HERE)

‘GAME OVER,’ Trump Declares, as Old Bolton, Schiff Videos Surface; Nasty Kamala Sneaks Content From Trump’s Access Hollywood Tape Into Impeachment Trial

By Breitbart. Failed presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris used her occasion to ask a written question during the Senate impeachment trial on Wednesday to feature the old Access Hollywood video of President Donald Trump.

“President Nixon said, quote, ‘When the president does it that means that it is not illegal.’ End quote. Before he was elected, President Trump said, quote, ‘When you’re a star they let you do it, you can do anything,’ end quote,” the Harris note read.

That particular Trump quote was from the infamous Access Hollywood tape that was used by the Clinton campaign in an effort to turn voters against him ahead of the 2016 election. During the campaign, Trump apologized for the remarks in the video recorded in 2005, and he went on to win the presidential election in 2016. ‘GAME OVER,’ Trump Declares, as Old Bolton, Schiff Videos Surface Amid Senate Impeachment Trial

By Fox News. A string of newly resurfaced video clips of former national security adviser John Bolton spurred President Trump and his supporters Wednesday to highlight what they described as serious credibility questions — raised by both Democrats and Republicans — amid the Senate impeachment trial, as the president tweeted, “GAME OVER!”

In his tweet, Trump linked to an interview of Bolton in August 2019 where he discusses Ukraine policy. In the Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty interview clip, Bolton made no mention of any illicit quid pro quo, and acknowledged, as Republicans have claimed, that combating “corruption” in Ukraine was a “high priority” for the Trump administration.

Bolton also called Trump’s communications with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “warm and cordial,” without mentioning any misconduct. It seemingly contradicted reported assertions in Bolton’s forthcoming book that Trump explicitly told him he wanted to tie military aid to Ukraine to an investigation into Joe and Hunter Biden. (Zelensky has said his communications with Trump involved no pressure for any investigation.)

REPORT: GOP Has Votes to Block Witnesses in Impeachment Trial; Senators Pose Questions Over Evidence

By Townhall. The witness aspect of the impeachment trial for President Trump has been the controversy on Capitol Hill this week, especially after Former National Security Advisor John Bolton’s book preview insinuated he may have relevant information. Democrats, who have historically demonized Bolton, immediately pounced and demanded Bolton testify. Most Republicans have united against a hypothetical Bolton testimony, on account of national security, and dragging the taxpayer funded impeachment charade on longer than necessary. As multiple GOP senators pointed out, the timing of the leak of Bolton’s memo to the New York Times is suspicious, at best.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has thus far indicated that his majority does not yet have the votes to block witness testimony. Some Republicans have floated the idea of allowing Bolton to testify if the Democrats will concede former Vice President Joe Biden, his son Hunter Biden or Rep. Adam Schiff (R-CA). Democrats insist that the Bidens are completely vindicated, and have no place in this impeachment trial.

It appears that the game may be shifting. Senate Republicans are optimistic that witnesses will be blocked. Republicans in the upper chamber met with Leader McConnell this morning. (Read more from “REPORT: GOP Has Votes to Block Witnesses in Impeachment Trial” HERE)

Trump Impeachment Trial: Senators Pose Questions Over Evidence

By New York Post. In a dramatic opening to the questioning phase of President Trump’s impeachment trial Wednesday, three Republican senators asked Trump’s lawyers what effect it would have on their decision if the president had multiple reasons for his actions regarding Ukraine.

“If President Trump had more than one motive for his alleged conduct, such as the pursuit of personal political advantage, rooting out corruption and the promotion of national interests, how should the Senate consider more than one motive in its assessment of Article I?” said the written query from GOP Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Mitt Romney of Utah.

All three are moderates who are considered possible defectors from the Republican caucus.

One of Trump’s lawyers, Patrick Philbin, responded by arguing that even if Trump acted out of personal interest, it was not an impeachable offense in asking Ukraine to probe Joe Biden.

“There are really two layers to my answer. I’d like to point out first, even if there was only one motive, the theory of abuse of power the House have presented for an impeachable offense we believe is constitutionally defective. It is not a permissible way to claim a claim of impeachable offense under the Constitution,” he said. (Read more from “Trump Impeachment Trial: Senators Pose Questions Over Evidence” HERE)

Dems Get Crushed in Special Election That Was Supposed to Open Door to ‘Defeat Trump in Texas’

A special election in Texas that had been viewed by some high-profile Democrats as key to beating President Donald Trump in Texas ended in a big win for the GOP.

Gary Gates, the Republican candidate Texas House District 28, soundly defeated his Democratic opponent Elizabeth Markowitz in a nationally targeted special election on Wednesday, ABC affiliate KTRK reported. . .

Three presidential candidates, including Texas Democrat and former 2020 presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke, lent their support to Markowitz ahead of the vote.

O’Rourke in particular stressed the election’s importance to winning the state house and building a “team to defeat Trump in Texas.”

Democrat’s Latest Star Just Got Ejected From the Senate and You’ll Never Guess Why

Lev Parnas, who has been federally indicted for fraud, is being held up as a legitimate witness this week by Democrats on Capitol Hill desperately trying to impeach President Trump. Why? Because Parnas, who President Trump called a “groupie” and has been accused of buying his way into Trump world as a grifter, has suddenly changed his opinion.

Michael Flynn: ‘I Regret Pleading Guilty’

Former national security adviser Michael Flynn on Wednesday denied lying to the FBI during a Jan. 24, 2017, White House meeting, and said he regrets pleading guilty in the special counsel’s probe.

“I am innocent of this crime, and I request to withdraw my guilty plea,” Flynn said in a declaration submitted Wednesday in his case.

Flynn pleaded guilty Dec. 1, 2017, to making false statements to the FBI about his phone conversations in December 2016 with then-Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak. As part of the plea deal, Flynn said he lied about discussing U.S. sanctions with Kislyak.

Flynn reiterated his guilty plea at a sentencing hearing on Dec. 18, 2018, but pulled out of that court appearance after Judge Emmet Sullivan indicated he was about to hand down a sentence that included jail time.

Months after the hearing, Flynn fired his lawyers and hired a new legal team that has mounted an aggressive challenge of the government’s case. On Jan. 7, prosecutors recommended that Flynn receive up to six months in jail in his case. Flynn’s lawyers responded Jan. 14 by formally requested Flynn be allowed to withdraw from his plea agreement. (Read more from “Michael Flynn: ‘I Regret Pleading Guilty’” HERE)

Pilots Killed in Air Force Plane Crash in Afghanistan Identified

The names of two Air Force pilots killed in the crash of their Bombardier E-11A electronic surveillance plane in Afghanistan were released on Wednesday, U.S. defense officials told Fox News.

They were identified as Lt. Col. Paul K. Voss, 46, of Yigo, Guam, and Capt. Ryan S. Phaneuf, 30, of Hudson, New Hampshire. Voss was assigned to Air Combat Command headquarters at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia. Phaneuf was assigned to the 37th Bomb Squadron at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota.

“This is a tragic loss to the Air Force and our Ellsworth Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with the member’s family, friends and co-workers as we all come to terms with this tragedy,” said Col. David A. Doss, 28th Bomb Wing commander. “Every uniformed and civilian Airman assigned to Ellsworth is a valuable member of our team and this Airman will be greatly missed by all. Please respect the family’s privacy as we concentrate on caring for them and our team during this difficult time.” . . .

The remains of the two pilots who were supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel were recovered from the crash site in Ghazni province by American forces on Tuesday. (Read more from “Pilots Killed in Air Force Plane Crash in Afghanistan Identified” HERE)

Congressional Budget Office Projects Trillion-Dollar Deficits Indefinitely

When Obama took office in 2009 and racked up trillion-dollar deficits, it shocked the nation and spawned the Tea Party movement to push reductions in spending. Thanks to passage of the Budget Control Act under a GOP Congress, deficits declined to roughly $400-$600 billion during Obama’s second term in office.

Fast-forward to the new decade, and despite high revenue and record low unemployment, annual deficits will forever remain above $1 trillion, barring major structural reforms to government, according to the latest budget and economic outlook from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO).

According to the 2020 budget outlook released on Tuesday, the deficit for this year is projected to reach $1.015 trillion. There will be no turning back from there, as deficits are slated to grow every year for the remainder of the 10-year budget window, topping $12.4 trillion of cumulative new deficits by the end of the decade.

Perhaps the most shocking element of this report is the fact that unemployment is so low, yet deficits are as bad as they were during the worst times of the Great Recession. “Not since World War II has the country seen deficits during times of low unemployment that are as large as those that we project — nor, in the past century, has it experienced large deficits for as long as we project,” said CBO Director Phillip L. Swagel in a press conference on Tuesday.

It’s no coincidence that since the debt has exploded over the past generation, we’ve never achieved solid economic growth, despite record low unemployment. Previously, during years in the 1960s, mid-1980s, and late 1990s, periods of low unemployment coincided with years of 4-5% GDP growth. Yet despite the lowest unemployment rate in half a century, the economy is growing right around 2%.

After missing 3% growth in 2018 by a hair, we have failed to achieve 3% annual growth since 2005 and 4% since 2000. The CBO projects gross domestic product will grow by just 2.2 percent this year and at an average pace of 1.7 percent over the next decade. At the same time, unemployment hasn’t been this low since the late 1960s, when there were years of over 6 percent growth.

What gives?

As the CBO notes, with increasing federal deficits, “crowding out of private investment occurs gradually, as interest rates and the funds available for private investment adjust in response to increased federal deficits.” Overall, the CBO projects that the accelerating level of debt, which is slated to more than double as a share of GDP over the next 30 years, will “dampen economic output over time.” It also warns that “rising interest costs associated with that debt would increase interest payments to foreign debt holders and thus reduce the income of U.S. households by increasing amounts.”

The time for growing our way out of the debt bomb seems to have long passed, as the debt itself is acting as a wet blanket on economic growth and efficient investments, even during a period of job creation.

What’s the number-one driver of the debt? While Social Security is the single biggest expenditure for an individual program, federal spending on all health care programs together tops even the price tag of America’s iconic retirement program. The CBO projects spending on health care, which largely funds third-party and fourth-party vendors who interfere between the patient and the doctor, will cost $1.3 trillion this year. By the end of the decade, the Medicare program alone is slated to pass Social Security as the most expensive cost to the federal government.

Federal spending on health care (not including state expenditures) is projected to be $19.2 trillion over the next 10 years, dwarfing the cost of Social Security and the military. By 2050, health care spending will be about 25 percent greater than the insolvent and crushing cost of Social Security. As such, health care in itself is the largest driver of the other great crisis, the mushrooming cost of the interest on the debt itself. Health care spending will be greater than all the revenue from payroll taxes and corporate income taxes combined and almost as large as individual income tax revenue.

However, as the CBO noted, the stagnation and disruption from our debt only “occurs gradually.” CBO Director Swagel noted that because other countries are doing even worse than we are financially, the U.S. is still an attractive place to invest, thereby allowing government to continue servicing debt on the cheap, which is forestalling the doomsday moment. “We’re not saying that there’s an imminent, urgent problem,” he told reporters. “The challenge is over time.”

For lawmakers in both parties, it is that grace of time that will incentivize them to continue doing nothing with no regard for the future. They subscribe to the Louis XV mentality of “after me, the deluge.” (For more from the author of “Congressional Budget Office Projects Trillion-Dollar Deficits Indefinitely” please click HERE)

Thanks to Lisa Murkowski, McConnell Doesn’t Have Enough Votes to Prevent New Impeachment Witnesses

By The Blaze. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) reportedly told his caucus that he did not have the votes to prevent the Democrats’ demands for new impeachment trial witnesses.

The possible inclusion of new witnesses has been a contentious debate between Democratic critics of President Donald Trump and his Republican allies and supporters.

On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal reported that McConnell admitted that enough Republicans had crossed over to support the demands from Democrats. However, many Republicans remained uncommitted on the issue.

Fox News confirmed the report but added that it was unclear just what the claim meant, since some Republicans are willing to make concessions in order to call Hunter Biden to testify.

Murkowski, Romney, and Collins Want to Hear from Witnesses

By AP. A decision to call more witnesses would need 51 votes to pass. With a 53-seat majority, Republicans can only afford to lose three Republicans to prevent more debate over witnesses.

McConnell has been trying to prevent a prolonged trial. Republicans were warned that subpoenaing testimony from Bolton or other witnesses could run quickly into legal challenges that could drag out for weeks.

But Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, has said he wants to hear what Bolton has to say. Two other Republicans, Sen. Susan Collins of Maine and Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, also want to hear from more witness. (Read more about whether impeachment witnesses will be called HERE)

Federal Judge Rules Giuliani Associate Lev Parnas Can Attend Trump Impeachment Trial With Ankle Monitor

By Washington Examiner. A federal judge ruled Tuesday that Rudy Giuliani associate Lev Parnas can attend the impeachment trial of President Trump, but is not permitted to remove his ankle monitor.

Parnas, who was indicted on campaign finance charges, was permitted by Judge Paul Oetken to travel from New York to D.C., from 12:30 to 2:45 p.m. The judge altered conditions of his bail, but did want the GPS device removed from his ankle. . .

Parnas attorney Joseph Bondy acknowledged the judge’s decision, writing, “Although we couldn’t arrange to have Lev Parnas watch the trial with us because his GPS ankle monitor is not allowed, Lev will join us in DC tomorrow to show support for a fair trial, with witnesses & evidence.” (Read more from “Federal Judge Rules Giuliani Associate Lev Parnas Can Attend Trump Impeachment Trial With Ankle Monitor” HERE)

Trump Gets The Impeachment Payback He Wanted; At Least 3 Democrat Senators Considering Voting to Acquit Trump

By Politico. President Donald Trump’s impeachment defense team knew they were likely to win — and they proceeded accordingly.

With a virtually negligible threat of conviction and removal by a Republican-controlled Senate, Trump’s legal team spent just a sliver of their 11-hour arguments rebutting the House’s charge that Trump abused his power by pressuring Ukraine to investigate his political rivals.

Instead, they tailored a defense that often mirrored the president’s pre-trial demands: to exact pain and revenge against his political enemies, all on the Senate floor.

What ensued was a Who’s Who of the president’s frequent Twitter targets: Obama, Comey, Mueller, Strzok, Page, Ohr — names that had little to no connection to the impeachment charges, but occupy a lot of space on Trump’s list of political enemies and whom Trump perceives as at least a part of the reason he will bear the stain of impeachment. At Least 3 Democrat Senators Considering Voting to Acquit Trump

By Daily Wire. At least three Democrat Senators are reportedly considering acquitting President Donald Trump of the charges leveled against him in the Democrats’ partisan articles of impeachment.

“Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona and Doug Jones of Alabama are undecided on whether to vote to remove the president from office and agonizing over where to land,” Politico reported. “It’s a decision that could have major ramifications for each senator’s legacy and political prospects — as well shape the broader political dynamic surrounding impeachment heading into the 2020 election.”

The move would give the president a bipartisan acquittal to the Democrats’ partisan charges, something that Trump is eagerly seeking.

“All three senators remain undecided after hearing arguments from the impeachment managers and Trump’s defense team. But they could end up with a creative solution,” Politico added. “One or more senators may end up splitting their votes, borrowing a move from Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine), who voted for the abuse of power charge but against the one on obstruction of Congress.”

There appeared to be some confusion on Tuesday over a quote that Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) gave, which the LA Times reported as meaning that she was open to acquitting the president. (Read more from “At Least 3 Democrat Senators Considering Voting to Acquit Trump” HERE)

GOP develops aggressive ‘Plan B’ in impeachment trial, as several Dems appear to support acquittal: source

By Gregg Re. [C]ongressional Republicans are planning an aggressive “Plan B” strategy in the event some Republicans break off and demand additional witnesses in the president’s impeachment trial, Fox News has learned.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell privately said early Tuesday that he wasn’t sure there were enough Republican votes to block more witnesses, given that some moderates in the GOP’s 53-47 Senate majority were wavering. Any witness resolution would likely require four Republican defections in the Senate, because in the event of a 50-50 tie, Chief Justice John Roberts is highly likely to abstain rather than assert his debatable power to cast a tiebreaking vote.

Late Tuesday night, a Senate leadership source told Fox News that Republicans were specifically assessing the viability of two alternative options.

One plan is to amend any resolution calling for a particular witness to also include a package of witnesses that assuredly wouldn’t win enough support in the Senate. For example, if the Democrats seek to call former National Security Advisor John Bolton, Republicans might seek to question Hunter Biden over his lucrative board position in Ukraine, and Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., over his inconsistent statements concerning his panel’s contacts with the whistleblower at the center of the impeachment probe.
