Democratic Governor Vetoes Anti-Infanticide Legislation, Offers Misleading Excuses

North Carolina’s Democratic Governor Roy Cooper vetoed a state-level anti-infanticide bill Thursday morning.

Senate Bill 359 was passed out of the North Carolina House of Representatives and sent to Cooper earlier this week. Like similar federal legislation that is currently the subject of a discharge petition in the House of Representatives, it is titled the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.”

The North Carolina legislation would have required that children who survive botched abortion attempts be given the same degree of lifesaving medical care “as a reasonably diligent and conscientious health care practitioner would render to any other child born alive at the same gestational age.” Failure to do so would have been classified as a felony punishable with a fine of up to $250,000.

“Laws already protect newborn babies and this bill is an unnecessary interference between doctors and their patients,” reads a statement from Cooper’s office. “This needless legislation would criminalize doctors and other healthcare providers for a practice that simply does not exist.”

In reality, current federal law passed in 2002 declares that abortion survivors are legal persons, but impose no legal penalties for medical professionals who willfully deny them lifesaving care after the fact. Alexandra DeSanctis has more details on that at National Review.

“The day before Good Friday, Governor Cooper has chosen to stand with infanticide and extremist groups like Planned Parenthood and NARAL over life,” reads a statement from North Carolina Republican Communications Director Jeff Hauser. “It is grotesque to think that Cooper believes providing care to infants born alive during an abortion procedure is ‘an unnecessary interference between doctors and their patients.’”

And contrary to the fear-mongering talking points about the bill’s supposed affects on abortion access, it would have imposed no restrictions on abortion procedures or time limits before a child is born. It literally only applied to newborns outside the womb.

“Caring for a living, breathing, newborn infant is too restrictive for Governor Cooper’s radical abortion agenda,” the legislation’s sponsors said in a press release. “We thought Democrats would agree that children born alive should be separate from the abortion debate, but it’s clear that they want the ‘right to choose’ to even extend past birth. This is a sad day for North Carolina.”

The measure passed by a vote of 65-46 in the state house and by a vote of 28-19 in the senate.

While many of Cooper’s vetoes have been overridden by the GOP-controlled legislature, this is the first he’s issued since Republicans lost a veto-proof supermajority in November. And while a handful of Democrats voted in favor of the legislation, it remains unclear whether pro-lifers will have enough bipartisan support to override the veto. Washington Braces for Release of the Mueller Report

By Breitbart. Washington is bracing for the release of the Mueller Special Counsel report Thursday, with Republicans and Democrats posturing for what happens next.

The White House is planning to release a 35-page counter-report, according to Politico‘s Darren Samuelsohn. According to Samuelson, President Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani texted him at 2:54 a.m. that the counter-report was “now at 34 or 35” pages. “The more concise the better. 400 pages is a novel.”

Some sources who did not want to speak on the record say they expect the president will not have much to fear, despite the report being nearly 400 pages long. Those who know Special Counsel Robert Mueller say that he is thorough and exhaustive and will likely detail all his investigative steps, and that some of it will be already public information, such as parts of previous sentencing memos stemming from earlier indictments.

Nor do they expect anything particularly explosive to come from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s reasoning on why he did not make a decision on whether the president obstructed justice. There was allegedly disagreement by at least one member on whether to exonerate the president of obstruction, leading Mueller to not take a decision either way.

In addition, Attorney General William Barr has suggested it would be clear from the report why he decided to clear the president of obstruction, based on Mueller’s findings, and has already agreed to testify after the report comes out about his decision. According to The Hill, Special Counsel Robert Mueller will not be attending the press conference. In fact, no one from Mueller’s office will be attending the joint press conference, although they have not said why.

A Democratic aide told The Hill Barr refuses to send the report to Congress until after the press conference takes place. (Read more from “Report: Mueller Will Not Attend Barr Press Conference on Russia Probe Findings” HERE)

DOJ: Nearly 60K Illegal Aliens, Legal Immigrants in Federal Prison

There are nearly 60,000 illegal aliens, legal immigrants, or suspected foreign-born inmates in the federal prison system, a report by the Department of Justice (DOJ) reveals.

In total, there are about 59,945 illegal aliens, legal immigrants, or suspected foreign-born inmates in federal custody by the Bureau of Prisons and United States Marshals Service, the DOJ report notes, as of 2018.

Of that total, about 41,138 were confirmed illegal aliens who have either been ordered deported from the U.S. once they are released from federal custody or who are under adjudication proceedings to be deported. Illegal aliens make up about 68 percent of the total foreign-born federal prison population.

There are 16,426 suspected foreign-born federal inmates who are under investigation to determine their immigration status, while there are nearly 1,300 legal immigrants in the federal prison system who have ongoing deportation proceedings, as of 2018. Legal immigrants account for about two percent of the total foreign-born federal prison population. . .

The federal foreign-born inmate population includes illegal aliens like MS-13 gang member Bryan Galicia Barillas, who was sentenced to 22 years in federal prison recently after he was involved with the killing of an innocent mother of three in Chelsea, Massachusetts. Barillas also pleaded guilty to his involvement in the 2014 stabbing murder of an individual in Chelsea, as well as an attempted stabbing and conspiracy to murder in 2015. Trump Approval Rating in the Wake of Mueller Report Revealed in Recent Poll

President Trump’s job approval stands at 45 percent, while 51 percent of voters disapprove, according to a new Fox News Poll. And that is almost exactly where it was last month, 46-51 percent, before Special Counsel Robert Mueller completed his Russia probe March 22.

That makes sense given two-thirds of voters (65 percent) say Mueller’s investigation has not changed how they feel about Trump. One in ten (10 percent) say they feel better about the president, while nearly two in ten (17 percent) feel worse.

The Justice Department will release a redacted version of Mueller’s report Thursday. Attorney General William Barr released his summary March 24. Congressional Democrats want the full report released, as do 80 percent of voters according to a Fox News Poll conducted March 17-20.

But don’t expect the release of Mueller’s report to put the issue to rest. The poll finds 35 percent of voters think the Russia investigation proves there was no collision, while 64 percent disagree or have no opinion.

In addition, 57 percent think it is at least somewhat likely U.S. intelligence agencies broke the law when they started investigating the Trump campaign in the first place: 22 percent think it is “extremely” likely, 12 percent “very” likely, 23 percent “somewhat” likely. A third, 35 percent, think it is “not at all” likely that there were illegalities in the investigation. Chairs of Five House Committees Issue a Stunning Demand of AG Barr About the Mueller Report

The chairs of five House committees, all Democrats, are demanding that U.S. Attorney General William Barr cancel his press conference scheduled for Thursday on the Mueller report. . .

“The Attorney General should cancel the press conference and provide the full report to Congress, as we have requested,” they continued. “With the Special Counsel’s fact-gathering work concluded, it is now Congress’ responsibility to assess the findings and evidence and proceed accordingly.”

Democratic pundits have been angrily denouncing the plan from Barr to give a media briefing about a document that has not been released yet. . .

Barr has been criticizing since releasing a summary of the Mueller report that said it did not exonerate the president but could not find sufficient evidence to support claims of collusion with the Russian government in the 2016 election. . .

Nadler had tweeted his misgivings about Barr’s plans earlier on Wednesday.

Trump Reveals ‘Dirty’ Details About FBI’s Relationship With Agent Behind Democrat-Funded Dossier

As Attorney General William Barr prepares to release the redacted final report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, President Trump has continued to hammer the key takeaways from Barr’s summary: “No Collusion – No Obstruction!” On Wednesday morning, Trump tweeted out another “dirty” detail that has come to light about what led up to the “collusion” investigation: The former British agent who Democrats paid to compile the dossier that got the collusion narrative rolling reportedly received 11 payments from the FBI in 2016. . .

On Tuesday, Judicial Watch announced that it had filed a new Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Department of Justice seeking the records of the communication and payments between the FBI and former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele and his private firm, Orbis Business Intelligence. . .

Trump has hit his “Dirty Cops, Dems and Crooked Hillary!” and “No Collusion – No Obstruction!” themes a few times this week. On Monday, the president issued a series of tweets on the topic: “Mueller, and the A.G. based on Mueller findings (and great intelligence), have already ruled No Collusion, No Obstruction. These were crimes committed by Crooked Hillary, the DNC, Dirty Cops and others! INVESTIGATE THE INVESTIGATORS! … THEY SPIED ON MY CAMPAIGN (We will never forget)! …Since there was no Collusion, why was there an Investigation in the first place! Answer – Dirty Cops, Dems and Crooked Hillary!”

Rashida Tlaib Hosts Another Extreme Anti-Israel, Terror-Affiliated Activist

Democratic Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib met with another extreme anti-Israel activist and terrorist-supporter in her Capitol Hill congressional office during American Muslims for Palestine Advocacy Day in mid-April.

American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) hosted the annual advocacy and training event, which was open to all adults who “seek justice in Palestine.” Additional criteria for participation includes supporting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which seeks to punish Israel by economically depriving the country for its alleged mistreatment of Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip and West Bank.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) describes the BDS movement as “the most prominent effort to undermine Israel’s existence” and has further criticized AMP for promoting anti-Semitism under the guise of educating Americans. AMP hailed the ADL’s anti-Israel description of its organization. . .

AMP’s New Jersey chapter posted a photograph of Tlaib outside of her office with some of its members during the event, including Joe Catron, an avowed supporter of multiple Palestinian terrorist organizations. . .

Catron is a long-time extreme anti-Israel activist and has openly supported terrorist organizations. He serves as the U.S. coordinator of Samidoun, the Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network. Samidoun is an affiliate arm of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a Palestinian Marxist–Leninist and revolutionary socialist organization. The United States designated PFLP a terrorist organization in 1997, and Australia, Japan, Canada and the European Union shortly followed suit. Democrats Are Holding ‘Stop Bernie Sanders’ Meetings

Members of the Democratic “establishment” and major Democratic donors have been holding meetings in Washington, D.C., The New York Times reports, trying to formulate a strategy that could keep the 79-year-old, progressive Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) from getting the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

The not-so-secret pow-wows are taking place in backrooms and involve a number of big names like Democratic mega-donor Bernard Schwartz, who has been leading the charge against Sanders from New York, and Democratic leaders Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-MY) marshaling support in D.C. South Bend mayor and Democratic presidential contender Pete Buttigieg has reportedly attended the tet-a-tets and, of course, members of the Clinton world are involved, including former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, and longtime Clinton defender, David Brock.

They all seem to have their reasons; for some, they’re still bitter over how Sanders refused to acknowledge and actively support Hillary Clinton as the nominee, given how much pull he commanded with grassroots Democrats. Others fear a far-left candidate could tank their chances against President Donald Trump, either because Sanders doesn’t have wide appeal in significant swing states, or because a far-left candidate could open the field to a third party.

Democrats are counting on the “uniting force” of not liking Donald Trump to push them ahead of the current president, but they also know that, outside of social media and some urban centers where Democrats already command the vote, “Democratic socialism” isn’t a popular concept. And to take the 2020 presidential election, Democrats will need to win in blue-collar, Rust Belt states where Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is reviled. Trump Makes 2020 Prediction, Gives ‘Top Dems’ Hilarious Nicknames

By Fox News. President Trump offered his thoughts Tuesday night on which two Democratic contenders he thinks will be left standing in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary.

Out of the crowded pool of contenders, Trump predicted on Twitter that former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders will be the final two in the battle to be the party’s nominee. . .

Shortly ahead of a Fox News town hall Monday night, Sanders’ presidential campaign released his 2018 returns. According to the figures, Sanders and his wife Jane paid a 26 percent effective tax rate on $561,293 in income, and made more than $1 million in both 2016 and 2017. Nearly $400,000 of his income last year came from book sales.

Sanders later fired back at the president for his remarks, tweeting that Trump seemed “scared of our campaign.”

2020 fundraising: Top takeaways from the first quarter

By WQAD 8. There’s an early top tier in fundraising — Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, California Sen. Kamala Harris, former Texas congressman Beto O’Rourke and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg — but no one came close to Trump’s haul.

Many of the early contenders are struggling to compete for dollars.

Of the 16 Democratic candidates who filed first-quarter reports with the Federal Election Commission, half raised $3 million or less from donors in the first three months of the year. That includes New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, former Colorado governor John Hickenlooper, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro.

It’s a sign that Democratic donors haven’t yet coalesced behind the contenders, said Anthony Corrado, a campaign-finance expert who teaches at Colby College in Maine. “It’s a huge field of not very well-known candidates.” (Read more from “2020 fundraising: Top takeaways from the first quarter” HERE)

De Blasio Is Threatening to Sue Trump Over Illegal Aliens

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio threatened to sue the Trump administration if it sends illegal immigrants to New York City, a “sanctuary city.”

“It’s illegal. It is just plain illegal. We will meet him in court. We will beat him in court,” de Blasio said, according to the New York Post.

President Trump on Monday tweeted, “Those Illegal Immigrants who can no longer be legally held (Congress must fix the laws and loopholes) will be, subject to Homeland Security, given to Sanctuary Cities and States”:

. . .

Last week, the Washington Post reported that the White House proposed transporting and releasing detained immigrants to sanctuary cities such as San Francisco, allegedly to alleviate detention space at the border, but also to “send a message to Democrats.”

Singer and actress Cher — who once said she and her businesses would be willing to take Dreamers into their homes — has also decried the idea of bringing illegal immigrants to her city of Los Angeles.
