Democrats Beg Mega-Donor to Stop Pushing Trump’s Impeachment

The New York Times revealed Tuesday that following their embarrassing loss to Republicans over the federal government shutdown, Democrats are quietly telling mega-donor environmentalist Tom Steyer to stop pushing any agenda that includes impeaching President Donald Trump.

Steyer announced this week that he would encourage activists to hold “house parties,” where they could discuss the possibility of impeaching Trump, and then come up with grassroots-level communications strategies they could use to pressure local Democrat legislators to back Steyer-drafted articles of impeachment.

But Dems are worried that pushing impeachment too often, and too quickly — when Mueller’s investigation has not concluded and there is, yet, no evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the White House — could make it difficult to convince mid-term voters that Democrats have their needs in mind.

Even the NYT admits that there’s really “no realistic chance” of impeaching the President — at least, not yet. And they quote Democratic leaders like Rep. Nancy Pelosi saying that Steyer’s tactics are making political divisions worse at a time when Democrats desperately need to pick up independents, blue collar moderates, Rust Belt voters, and others who abhor the current, rancorous state of politics. Another Huge Company Is Giving Employees $1,000 Bonuses from Tax Reform

By CNBC. Chief executive officer and chairman of The Walt Disney Company Bob Iger and Mickey Mouse look on before ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), November 27, 2017 in New York City. Disney giving 125,000 employees $1,000 cash bonuses

Disney announced Tuesday it will pay over 125,000 employees a one-time cash bonus of $1,000, as well as make a new $50 million investment into education program for employees.

“We are directing approximately $125 million to our cast members and employees across the country and making higher education more accessible with the launch of this new program,” CEO Bob Iger said in a statement.

Disney says both initiatives are due to recent tax reform. Some of the biggest companies in the United States have been giving out bonuses to employees, often citing the recently-passed tax bill as the motive. Boeing, AT&T, Wells Fargo, Comcast, Bank of America and Walmart are just a few of those distributing new tax benefits to workers.

The bonus applies any full-time and part-time employees who have been working for Disney since before January 1. Those eligible will receive the bonus in two parts, with one in March and the other in September. Executive level employees are exempt. Tax Reform Windfall: These Companies Are Hiking Pay, Delivering Bonuses

By Fox Business. Verizon (VZ) on Tuesday joined several major companies in rewarding employees with incentives tied to the passage of a GOP-backed tax reform bill.

The telecom giant will give nearly all of its employees 50 shares of restricted stock, worth roughly $53 each as of this week, a source with knowledge of the equity award confirmed to Fox News. The share prices will be set on Feb. 1.

The $1.5 trillion tax bill reduces the corporate tax rate from 35% to 21% and changes the way the U.S. government taxes companies that also operate internationally. (Read more from “Tax Reform Windfall: These Companies Are Hiking Pay, Delivering Bonuses” HERE)

Man Threatens to Kill CNN Employees

By CBS46. Michigan man was arrested after an FBI investigation, accused of threatening to travel to Atlanta to commit mass murder at CNN headquarters.

According to federal court documents obtained by CBS46 Monday, 19-year-old Brandon Griesemer made 22 calls to CNN earlier this month.

It began with claims of “fake news” and ended with threats of violence.

Griesemer told a CNN operator, among other things, “Fake news. I’m coming to gun you all down.”

He then called again, saying, “I’m smarter than you. More powerful than you. I have more guns than you. More manpower. Your cast is about to get gunned down in a matter of hours.” (Read more from “Man Threatens to Kill CNN Employees” HERE)

This Is What the Delayed Hawaii Missile Response Is Being Blamed On

Gov. David Ige told reporters today that part of the delay in notifying the public that the Jan. 13 ballistic missile alert was a false alarm was that he did not know his Twitter account password.

The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency issued the false alarm at 8:07 a.m., and Ige was told the missile alert was a false alarm two minutes after the alert was sent to cell phones across the state. However, Ige’s office did not get out a cancellation message until 17 minutes after the alert.

Ige was asked about that delay when he met with reporters after his State of the State address today, and he said that “I was in the process of making calls to the leadership team both in Hawaii Emergency Management as well as others.” (Read more from “This Is What the Delayed Hawaii Missile Response Is Being Blamed On” HERE)

‘Gotcha’ Undercover Videos Get Legal Thumbs-Up

A California Superior Court, pointing to “an established body” of law supporting the practice of using undercover video for news gathering, has thrown out a claim by a woman who was caught in such an interview.

Kimberly Koerber sued James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas over recordings of Koerber making comments such as “damn the Second Amendment” and “the dead white guys did not create this country.”

An executive in the school textbook industry, she was captured on video pushing an elitist, progressive agenda of global warming hype, gun control and other far-left issues.

Koerber, a former manager for Pearson, the nation’s leading textbook publishing company, was with National Geographic when the interview was released two years ago.

She was interviewed as part of a series of reports on the controversial federal education-standards program Common Core. (Read more from “‘Gotcha’ Undercover Videos Get Legal Thumbs-Up” HERE)

New Texts From Anti-Trump FBI Agents Mention A ‘SECRET SOCIETY’

By Daily Wire. New text messages from anti-Trump FBI agents reviewed by investigators reportedly make reference to a “secret society,” in what could be the nail in the coffin for special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

Investigators have reviewed 50,000 text messages on FBI servers looking for all exchanges between anti-Trump FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page during the 2016 election, Fox News reported. The revelation comes as investigators are seeking the whereabouts of approximately five months’ worth of text messages between Page and Strzok.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy told Fox News on Monday that one of the newly-revealed text messages spoke of a “secret society.”

“The day after the election, the day after what they really, really didn’t want to have happen, there’s a text exchange between [Strzok and Page] … saying, ‘Perhaps this is the first meeting of the secret society,'” Gowdy said. “So, of course I’m going to want to know: What ‘secret society’ are you talking about?”

Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ Department of Justice is doing everything in its power to retrieve the missing text messages and to get to the bottom of what happened.

New Texts from FBI Official Removed from Mueller Probe Delivered to Congress

By Laura Jarrett. A new cache of text messages exchanged between two top FBI officials that have come under fire for criticizing then-presidential candidate Donald Trump were delivered to lawmakers on Capitol Hill Friday evening, according to a letter from Republican Sen. Ron Johnson.

The delivery of nearly 400 pages of new text messages sent by FBI officials who were briefly on special counsel Robert Mueller’s team sets up a new chapter in the political swirl of accusations that some members of the FBI working on the Russia probe are biased against Trump.

In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray on Saturday, Johnson — the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee — described several of the texts that appear to involve the FBI’s handling of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of state, a subject of investigation for the committee.

In one February 2016 exchange, FBI lawyer Lisa Page calls it “unbelievable” that the 2016 presidential race would come down to Clinton versus Trump. Peter Strzok, who led the investigation of the Clinton email server as the No. 2 official in the FBI’s counterintelligence division, responds, “Now the pressure really starts to finish MYE . . . ,” an apparent reference to “Midyear Exam” — the FBI’s internal case name for the Clinton investigation. Trump Lauds ‘Big Win’ After Dems ‘Cave’ on Shutdown, Schumer Criticized

President Trump struck an optimistic tone on Twitter after he signed a bill to reopen the government late Monday night after a 69-hour federal government shutdown that led to Senate Democrats backing off their opposition.

Earlier in the day, Congress agreed on a measure that will fund the government for three weeks. The agreement will keep the government funded until Feb. 8.

“Big win for Republicans as Democrats cave on Shutdown,” Trump tweeted, after he kept a low profile during the weekend. “Now I want a big win for everyone, including Republicans, Democrats and DACA, but especially for our Great Military and Border Security. Should be able to get there. See you at the negotiating table.”

Some items on the top of the agenda are Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and border security. Trump has said he wants a deal in place to legalize the country’s 700,000 Dreamers.

Despite getting Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell , R-Ky., to allow debate on the immigration issue, Democrats faced immediate backlash within their own ranks for not pushing harder on the immigration law. Elizabeth Warren’s ‘Native American Problem’ Keeps Getting Worse

With midterm elections still months down the road, pundits have already started speculating about the possible lineup of Democrats running for president in 2020.

At or near the top of most such lists is U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren. The Massachusetts Democrat has already demonstrated her fundraising and grassroots-organizing abilities, leading more than a few observers to suggest she is gearing up for a White House bid.

“I think Elizabeth is laying the groundwork for a run,” said San Francisco attorney Guy Saperstein in an interview last year. “She won’t admit it, but it looks like that.”

The investor pledged a $1 million contribution to a pro-Warren super PAC ahead of the 2016 election if she had entered the race.

Though she remains largely popular among her party’s growing left wing, the senator has what many fellow Democrats have identified as an easily exploitable flaw.

President Donald Trump has already made several references to claims that Warren incorrectly identified herself as a Native American on a college form in what critics allege was an attempt to fraudulently advance her academic career.

While Trump has been widely admonished for using the derisive nickname “Pocahontas” in reference to Warren, the backlash for Warren has hardly been contained to the Republican Party.

As the Boston Globe reported last week in a front-page article, Warren faces an uphill battle in explaining her actions to many of her would-be supporters in a presidential election.

“And, more telling, there’s also discomfort on the left and among some tribal leaders and activists that Warren has a political blind spot when it comes to the murkiness surrounding her story of her heritage, which blew up as an issue in her victorious 2012 Massachusetts Senate race,” the article read.

Among several examples of such backlash was a recent segment of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show.”

Though host Trevor Noah spent much of the monologue building an argument against Trump, he acknowledged there was a legitimate point behind the “Pocahontas” pejorative.

“He’s hitting Elizabeth Warren for saying she was Native American when she wasn’t — something she’s never apologized for or owned up to,” he said.

ThinkProgress surprised some readers when it published an op-ed written by a Cherokee woman deeply critical of Warren.

The piece was published in November, shortly after Trump’s most recent use of the controversial nickname.

“As a young Cherokee woman, one would assume that I would take Warren’s side in standing up against Trump’s racist remark,” Rebecca Nagle wrote.

Instead, she called on Warren to apologize.

Nagle ended the editorial by giving the senator permission to use a draft apology stating in part that she is “deeply sorry to the Native American people who have been greatly harmed” by her “misappropriation of Cherokee identity.”

The Globe article also noted that a number of tribal leaders have called on Warren to address the controversy and apologize.

In addition to an apology, the newspaper wrote that another “path” toward making amends “includes pursuing stronger outreach to the tribes with whom she claims to share kinship, a strategy that she’s begun to employ.”

Even taking this approach, however, has been seen by some in the Native American community as insincere and unconvincing.

Cherokee Nation leader Chad Smith said Warren is “not part of the Cherokee community” and “hasn’t reached out” to his people.

“She hasn’t come here and participated much,” he said. (For more from the author of “Elizabeth Warren’s ‘Native American Problem’ Keeps Getting Worse” please click HERE)

Major Bank Is Charging Customers for ‘Free’ Accounts

Bank of America is facing backlash over what many are calling a slight against dedicated customers.

The Charlotte-based bank announced that they would be eliminating free checking account options for eBanking customers, charging them a monthly fee of $12 unless they met certain standards.

The quota that customers must meet in order not to be charged is a minimum daily account balance of $1,500 or if the account holder has a direct deposit of $250 or more, according to the Charlotte Observer.

It was back in 2010 that the widespread bank introduced their eBanking accounts in an attempt to promote online banking, as it was a time when new federal regulations were expected to limit certain fees the industry had been charging.

The company promised customers no monthly fee in return for the account holder handling all transactions and statements online.

However, the bank eventually stopped offering new customers that same service as it began transitioning into digital banking, though existing customers were permitted to keep their original eBanking accounts.

This month has marked that years-long phaseout of the accounts, which started in 2015 — a move that has continued to anger customers who have even gone so far as to set up a Change.org petition against the company.

By Monday afternoon, more than 45,000 signatures had been added to the petition.

“I currently use eBanking and have had no need to use a teller,” one commenter stated on Change.org. “BofA, keep this feature available for the low-income people that don’t even go inside your banks.”

Others have decided to leave the bank behind completely, as one commenter wrote, “I am in the process of switching banks because of this.”

Yet many can’t understand why the bank has seemingly undermined those with low-incomes, as they are the group who may need the fee waived the most.

But the bank has countered that it hasn’t offered the account — which did not require a minimum balance before — for nearly five years, and has been transferring eBanking customers to the bank’s “Core Checking” account — where they must meet the $1,500 or $250 quota.

Bank of America spokeswoman Betty Riess explained that the direct deposit of $250 required is one of the lowest requirements in the industry, adding that the former program was established in a different banking environment than what company’s see today.

“Over the years we’ve been simplifying and streamlining our products,” Reiss stated. “Our core checking account provides full access to all our financial centers, ATMs, mobile and online banking.

As reported by the Charlotte Business Journal, Reiss added that the new program “offers several ways to avoid a monthly fee, including a monthly direct deposit of $250, which equates to $3,000 annually.”

For example, the bank stated that students under the age of 24 are eligible to have the $12 fee waived, so long as they are enrolled in high school, college or some other vocational program.

The recent change is suggested to be one of many, as chief executive Brian Moynihan continues to streamline the company by shedding “non-core” products and securing business with those who have strong credit scores, which the company labels as “prime” and “super prime” borrowers. State Aims to Be ‘Sanctuary State’ for Gun Rights

. . .A West Virginia lawmaker has introduced a bill to the state House that would outlaw enforcement of current and future gun-control laws that violate the U.S. or state constitutions.

House Bill 2138, introduced by Republican Del. Pat McGeehan, would effectively nullify all federal gun control within the state’s boundaries, according to a report from the Tenth Amendment Center. The bill would make any attempt to enforce such laws a felony.

HB2138 reads:

“All current and future federal, state, and local statutes, ordinances, laws, orders, rules, and any other actions which attempt to restrict, tax, or regulate the possession, use, discharge in lawful self-defense, transportation, purchase, acquisition, sale, transfer, ownership, carrying, manufacture, or repair of firearms, firearm accessories, ammunition and their accouterments contradict the true meaning and original intent of the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States and Section twenty-two, Article III of the Constitution of the State of West Virginia. Those statutes, ordinances, laws, orders and rules which violate the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of West Virginia are invalid, and therefore, are null and void.”

McGeehan’s bill is a page out of “Federalist #46,” where Madison laid out a strategy for nixing unpopular or unconstitutional federal programs. Among Madison’s remedies was “refusal to cooperate with officers of the Union.” The West Virginia bill goes two steps further by offering legal assistance to state citizens targeted by federal agents enforcing unconstitutional gun laws, and by subjecting federal, state or local agents attempting to enforce federal gun laws to arrest, prosecution, jail and fines.
