Kim Davis’ Husband Has a Message for the Judge Who Threw His Wife in Jail

Joe-Davis-913x512Kim Davis’ husband Joe is not pleased with federal judge David Bunning’s decision on Thursday to throw his wife in jail.

Bunning ruled that the Rowan County clerk be imprisoned until such time as she complies with the court order to issue same-sex marriage licenses. Ms. Davis currently has a case in federal court seeking a religious liberty exemption from having to affix her name to same-sex marriage certificates.

Mat Staver, Davis’ attorney with the religious liberty organization, Liberty Counsel, told CNN that his client would issue licenses if her name and title were removed.

“Because that in her understanding and mind is authorizing something that is contrary to her Christian values and convictions,” he said. “That’s where the conscience rub is” . . .

Joe Davis “told reporters Friday that his wife was willing to remain in jail until the state government allows her to keep her name off the licenses,” according to CNN.

“As long as it takes,” Joe Davis said. “Hopefully (Gov. Steve) Beshear will have the guts to do his job.” (Read more from “Kim Davis’ Husband Has a Message for the Judge Who Threw His Wife in Jail” HERE)

Has Obama Widened the Racial Divide?

130523_barack_obama_speech_ap_605Americans hoped the election of the first black president in 2008 would help heal the racial division that has plagued this country for much of its history, but nearly half of voters think just the opposite has occurred.

Only 20% of Likely U.S. Voters believe President Obama has brought Americans of different races closer together, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Forty-seven percent (47%) think Obama has driven those of different races further apart instead. Twenty-seven percent (27%) say his words and actions have had no major impact either way.

Forty-four percent (44%) of black voters feel the president has brought us closer together, but just 16% of whites and 21% of other minority voters agree. Most whites (54%) believe Obama has driven the races further apart, a view shared by only 21% of blacks and 38% of other minority voters.

Perhaps the most visible manifestation of racial division these days is the growing tension between the police and black Americans, especially those in the inner city. Following the recent murders of police officers in Texas and Illinois, 58% of voters think there is a war on police in America today.

Some have criticized the president for his comments about the police following incidents involving white police officers and black suspects. Sixty percent (60%) of voters believe comments critical of the police by some politicians make it more dangerous for police officers to do their jobs. Las Vegas Cop Shot ‘Ambush-Style’ While Sitting in Patrol Car at Traffic Light

las-vegas-undersheriff-2-e1441584276224A Las Vegas police officer is in stable condition Sunday after being shot in the hand “ambush-style” while he and a fellow officer sat in a patrol car at a traffic light, KTNV-TV said.

The suspect is in custody, police said.

Police told KTNV the suspect — who’s in custody — approached the cruiser just after noon and fired three shots “ambush-style” at the officers who had just departed the scene of a disturbance call. The officers fired no shots, police told the station.

The officer hit by gunfire was in stable condition at a hospital.

It’s the second time in three days that a Las Vegas police officer has been shot in the line duty. Officer Jeremy Robertson was shot in the upper leg Friday morning while answering a call; two suspects were taken into custody, KTNV said. DNC Head Chokes up Announcing Iran Deal Vote

o-DEBBIE-WASSERMAN-SCHULTZ-facebookThe head of the Democratic Party, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., choked up while discussing her “gut wrenching” decision to vote in favor of the Iran nuclear deal.

“There’s nothing that’s more important to me, as a Jew, than to ensure Israel’s existence is there throughout our generations,” she said Sunday, choking back tears. Wasserman Schultz announced her vote for the deal, which will ease economic sanctions in return for Iran scaling back its nuclear program, on CNN’s “State of the Union” and in an op-ed for the Miami Herald.

Holding back tears, Wasserman Schultz said that in her op-ed, she talks about her “Jewish heart and how important this [decision] was to me … as a Jewish mother.”

“In weighing everything, all the information, I’ve concluded the best thing to do is vote in support of the Iran deal and put Iran years away from being a nuclear state,” she said. The Obama administration secured enough votes this week to ensure the deal will survive efforts to kill it.

In making her decision, Wasserman Schultz met with President Obama, Vice President Biden, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, Secretary of State John Kerry and Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, as well as dozens of intelligence experts. She has been to the Situation Room twenty times in the past two years, she said, and has personally verified with the Obama administration that Iran will have to allow inspectors in to verify that it is scaling back its nuclear capacity and cannot self-inspect. Trump Just Made a Surprise Statement About Kim Davis That’ll Make Many People Furious

donald-trump-630Although many Republican presidential candidates this week defended or praised Kentucky clerk Kim Davis for refusing to violate her faith and principles by issuing licenses to same-sex couples seeking marriage, Donald Trump will not.

“The Supreme Court has ruled,” Trump said Friday. “It is the law of the land.”

Trump’s comments differed sharply from those of GOP candidate Mike Huckabee, who Thursday tweeted his defense of Davis, who has been jailed for her stand.

“Kim Davis in federal custody removes all doubts about the criminalization of Christianity in this country. We must defend ‪#ReligiousLiberty!” Huckabee tweeted.

“I’m a believer in both sides of the picture,” Trump said Friday on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

Trump said Davis [should] not have become personally involved and could have allowed her deputy clerks to issue the licenses.

“She (Davis) can take a pass and let somebody else in the office do it in terms of religious, so you know, it’s a very … tough situation, but we are a nation, as I said yesterday, we’re a nation of laws,” he said. Oregon Judge Refuses to Perform Same-Sex Marriages, Cites First Amendment Right to Religious Freedom

18683104-mmmainMarion County Circuit Judge Vance Day, a former chairman of the Oregon Republican Party, took steps Thursday to create a legal defense fund in an apparent response to his decision not to perform same-sex marriage ceremonies.

Day took action because of what he described as “deeply-held religious beliefs,” KGW reported.

“It’s an exercise of his religious freedom rights under the First Amendment,” Day spokesman Patrick Korten told the news station.

In recent months, Day has not performed any marriage ceremonies, KGW reported. His courtroom is in Salem . . .

Day noted in an affidavit signed Aug. 19 that he was seeking to establish the fund to defray legal expenses in connection with inquiries by the Oregon Commission on Judicial Fitness and Disability involving allegations of violations of the Oregon Code of Judicial Conduct and the Oregon Constitution. Florida Gunmaker Produces Assault Rifle ‘Never to Be Used by Muslim Terrorists’

crusader gun imageA new assault rifle being manufactured in central Florida has drawn fire after the gunmaker branded it the “Crusader” and said it was designed “to never be used by Muslim terrorists.”

Spike’s Tactical in Apopka etched its new $1,395 AR-15 with a Bible verse that says “Blessed be the Lord my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle,” MyFoxOrlando reported.

Company spokesman Ben Thomas, a former Navy SEAL, said the scripture is something of an insurance policy to keep it out of the hands of terrorists. The idea came to him during the weapon’s development. At the time, the U.S. government was preparing to arm rebel groups in Syria . . .

The gun went on sale this week and was quickly denounced by the Council on American-Islamic Relations of Florida, according to MyFoxOrlando.

“Sadly, this manufacturer’s fancy new gun won’t do anything to stop the real threat in America: the escalating problem of gun violence,” the council told the station. “This is just another shameful marketing ploy intended to profit from the promotion of hatred, division, and violence.” (Read more from “Florida Gunmaker Produces Assault Rifle ‘Never to Be Used by Muslim Terrorists'” HERE)

Louie Gohmert Chooses Country’s Security Over Job Security

Rep. Louie GohmertContrast the unprincipled two-faced behavior of Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) with regards to the Iran treaty to the principled stand of a true statesman. Sitting in for Sean Hannity, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), in a heartfelt monologue against the Iran deal, promised to not run for re-election if House leaders bring his resolution to the floor next week, requiring that the Iran deal be treated as a treaty and subjecting it to the 67-vote threshold in the Senate.

Following his recent trip to Egypt and seeing such a beleaguered nation stand up to the Muslim Brotherhood and radical Islam, Gohmert said he was racking his brains as to what he can do to get leadership to listen.

“I know the Republican leaders want me out of Congress; they consider me a pain in the rear – to put it mildly,” said Gohmert to Hannity listeners.

“I give you my word, I will not run for re-election.”

“You want me out this is your best shot, just follow the Constitution.”

This is not a hollow threat. Boehner hates Gohmert so badly, if there’s anything that would prompt him to actually fight the Iran deal in a meaningful way it would be the opportunity to get rid of Gohmert.

The question is if Boehner loves the country as much as he hates Gohmert. (For more from the author of “Louie Gohmert Chooses Country’s Security Over Job Security” please click HERE)

Renewed Calls for Gun Control Laws Spurring Gun Sales

635769844124861309-Stolen-GunsRenewed calls for more restrictive gun laws, following a succession of fatal shootings in the United States, immediately appear to be generating a boost for the gun industry.

Newly released August records show that the FBI posted 1.7 million background checks required of gun purchasers at federally licensed dealers, the highest number recorded in any August since gun checks began in 1998. The numbers follow new monthly highs for June (1.5 million) and July (1.6 million), a period which spans a series of deadly gun attacks — from Charleston to Roanoke — and proposals for additional firearm legislation.

While the FBI does not track actual gun sales, as multiple firearms can be included in a transaction by a single buyer, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System’s numbers are an indicator of a market upswing in the face of growing anxiety about access to guns.

“Whenever there is a call for gun control, sales increase,” said Larry Keane, general counsel for the firearm industry trade association National Shooting Sports Foundation. “Unfortunately, this is a pattern that repeats itself.”

The summer trend is not on par with the panic buying boom that followed the 2012 Newtown massacre, which jump-started state and federal campaigns for a host of new firearm measures. During the months that followed the Connecticut attack, which featured new calls for an assault weapons ban and expanded background checks, apprehensive gun buyers emptied the shelves of dealers across the country. Yet, the recent uptick represents a similar buying pattern that dates to the uneasy period before 1994 adoption of the assault weapons ban. (That ban expired in 2004.) Former CIA Operations Officer’s Head ‘Spins’ Over Scooter Libby Question to Trump

image2577336xDonald Trump would not say if he would pardon former George W. Bush White House official Lewis “Scooter” Libby. Trump said the question was “not pertinent,” but Valerie Plame’s response on Twitter to The Daily Caller’s question to Trump about Libby was, “My head is spinning.”

Libby was convicted in 2007 for obstruction of justice, two counts of perjury, and one count of making false statements.

The initial indictment came in 2005 when an investigation into the leak of classified information regarding then CIA officer Valerie Plame became public in a Robert Novak column.

Former Bush Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage revealed in 2006 to CBS News, well into the investigation, that he was the Novak’s source not Libby. No one was ever indicted for actually leaking Plame’s identity. (Read more from “Former CIA Operations Officer’s Head ‘Spins’ Over Scooter Libby Question to Trump” HERE)
