Teens Feel Hopeless, Suicidal More Than Ever, CDC Warns

The kids are not alright, health experts are warning.

A new survey conducted by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported that teens — girls, especially — are experiencing record-high levels of violence and dangerously poor mental health.

The CDC released its biannual Youth Risk Behavior Survey on Monday, sharing the disturbing reality of teen angst today, particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns drastically upended the world and adolescence.

The survey revealed that nearly all indicators of poor mental health among high schoolers, including suicidal thoughts and behaviors, have increased in the last decade.

“Young people are experiencing a level of distress that calls on us to act with urgency and compassion,” said CDC Division of Adolescent and School Health Director Kathleen Ethier in a public statement. “With the right programs and services in place, schools have the unique ability to help our youth flourish.” (Read more from “Teens Feel Hopeless, Suicidal More Than Ever, CDC Warns” HERE)

Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Says Russia Has ‘Lost’ War in Ukraine

Russia has “lost” its war in Ukraine, according to a top U.S. defense official, speaking ten days ahead of the one-year anniversary of their invasion.

Gen. Mark Milley’s comments, which came on Tuesday, occurred after he and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin met with defense leaders from roughly fifty countries in the ninth iteration of the Defense Contact Group in Brussels, which meets monthly to discuss Ukraine’s latest needs to combat Russian aggression.

“Russia has lost,” he told reporters. “They’ve lost strategically, operationally, and tactically, and they are paying an enormous price on the battlefield. But until Putin ends his war of choice, the international community will continue to support Ukraine; [and supply] the equipment and capabilities it needs to defend itself. Through this group, we are collectively supporting Ukraine’s ability to defend its territory, protect its citizens and liberate their occupied area.”

Putin’s expectations for the war — a swift defeat of Ukraine’s forces and a fracture of the NATO alliance — couldn’t have been further from what has played out over the last nearly twelve months. (Read more from “Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Says Russia Has ‘Lost’ War in Ukraine” HERE)

These Are the Two Explanations the Biden Team Offered Regarding the Three Downed Ufos

. . .When the White House press pool is all wondering the same thing, like how could this spy balloon penetrate US airspace, and you don’t have a good answer, you know you’re in trouble.

The latest explanations are that these UFOs were being used for commercial or benign purposes (via NBC News):

The White House said Tuesday that the U.S. intelligence community’s leading explanation for the three most recent unidentified objects shot down over North America is that they were being used for commercial or benign purposes.

That was the message National Security Council spokesman John Kirby conveyed to reporters Tuesday and said the evaluation is based on what the U.S. knows now, from visual images of the objects.

By the end of the week, the interagency team that President Joe Biden ordered his national security team to coordinate on Monday will lay out parameters regarding how the U.S. will address these objects going forward, Kirby said.

Gen. Milley: First U.S. Missile Fired at Object Over Lake Huron Missed Target

A U.S. Sidewinder missile fired at a high-altitude object over Michigan missed its target on Sunday and landed in Lake Huron, the U.S. military’s top general revealed Tuesday during a press conference at NATO headquarters.

Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, was asked about the incident during the latest meeting in Brussels Tuesday of the “contact group” of allies supporting Ukraine in its war with Russia.

“The first shot missed [but] the second shot hit,” Gen. Milley said. “The missile landed harmlessly in the water. We tracked it all the way down.”

The U.S.-Canadian North American Aerospace Defense Command, known as NORAD, detected the still-unidentified airborne object shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday while it was in Canadian airspace about 70 miles north of the U.S. border. It entered the airspace over Montana and drifted eastward before being taken out by the Air Force F-16, officials said.

Each AIM-9X Sidewinder missile costs about $400,000, meaning the U.S. spent almost $1 million to take out an object described in press accounts as a “small, metallic balloon with a tethered payload below it.” (Read more from “Gen. CNN Anchor Left Out Key Detail for MSU Shooting Suspect While He Was at Large

CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota was on the air when news was breaking about the shooting at Michigan State University Monday evening, she provided details about the suspect after police released information about him but she left out the man police were actively looking for was black.

Camerota referenced a tweet from MSU Police, but did not show it on the screen, and said, “Campus police tweeted that the suspected gunman is a short male with a mask. That’s basically all we know.”

Except that was not “all we know.” MSU Police’s tweet stated the following: “The suspect description is a short male with a mask, possibly Black. Please continue to shelter in place. We are still receiving multiple calls of an active shooter on campus.”

Nikki Haley Announces 2024 Presidential Bid

Nikki Haley, a former governor of South Carolina and United Nations ambassador, announced Tuesday she was entering the 2024 presidential race, making her the first Republican to challenge her former boss and ex-President Donald Trump for the Republican nomination.

Haley, 51, dug into the difference in ages between 80-year-old President Joe Biden and her challenger Trump, who’s 76. While Biden hasn’t formally announced his candidacy, he’s expected to do so in the coming weeks.

“Republicans have lost the popular vote in seven out of the last eight presidential elections. That has to change,” Haley said in a video posted to her Twitter account. She called for a new generation of leaders, saying Biden’s record was “abysmal” and that the “Washington establishment has failed us over and over and over again.”

In announcing her run a day before she’s scheduled a formal campaign launch in Charleston, South Carolina, Haley called for fiscal responsibility and secured borders.

ChatGPT Went to Congress, Became a Pro-Choice, Anti-Gun Liberal; Refused to Write Conservative Bills

By Washington Times. The intelligence might be artificial, but the bias is real.

As the chatbot ChatGPT captures the attention of the world, it seems there’s little its artificial intelligence can’t do. Law school professors in Minnesota say it has passed their tests. It also has passed exams for business and medical school. A member of Congress had it write a speech that was delivered on the House floor last month. . .

For one thing, its comprehension of government was stunted. It boiled complex issues down to book report analysis. It also showed bias: ChatGPT tilted far to the left and at times seemed unable to comprehend conservative points of view.

Asked to draft a bill that could be introduced in Congress to ban assault weapons, it delivered. Legislation to defund U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement? No problem. Legalize marijuana at the federal level? The artificial intelligence tool spit out a 181-word piece of legislation.

When asked to write a bill funding construction of the border wall, ChatGPT recoiled. . .

Abortion produced a similar result. ChatGPT drafted legislation guaranteeing the right to abortion through all stages of pregnancy. When asked for a bill to bar abortion except when the mother’s life is at risk, the artificial intelligence tool said it couldn’t do it. Google Cautions Against ‘Hallucinating’ Chatbots, Report Says

By Reuters. The boss of Google’s search engine warned against the pitfalls of artificial intelligence in chatbots in a newspaper interview published on Saturday, as Google parent company Alphabet (GOOGL.O) battles to compete with blockbuster app ChatGPT.

“This kind of artificial intelligence we’re talking about right now can sometimes lead to something we call hallucination,” Prabhakar Raghavan, senior vice president at Google and head of Google Search, told Germany’s Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

“This then expresses itself in such a way that a machine provides a convincing but completely made-up answer,” Raghavan said in comments published in German. One of the fundamental tasks, he added, was keeping this to a minimum.

Google has been on the back foot after OpenAI, a startup Microsoft (MSFT.O) is backing with around $10 billion, in November introduced ChatGPT, which has since wowed users with its strikingly human-like responses to user queries. Pentagon Confirms Shot-Down Objects Aren’t Balloons, Makes an Even Weirder Admission

. . .The Pentagon gave a briefing on Sunday evening after yet another unidentified flying object was shot down, this time in US airspace over Lake Huron. Reports began to circulate that the object was an “octagon” and that it didn’t appear to be a balloon.

That set off some speculation that the recent rash of UFOs were balloons, likely from China, but that they were simply shaped differently than one would expect. In a pretty shocking statement, though, Gen. Glen VanHerck made it clear that’s not the view of the US military.

The UFOs not being balloons would be crazy enough, but things get even weirder when you hear a top US general admit that we don’t even know what is keeping these objects in the air. I’d think they did ample recon on whatever it was before shooting it down, including taking detailed pictures. I’d also think that the US military has the capability to identify pretty much anything China or another nation could throw at us. . .

Whatever these objects are, there are a lot of them, and there has to be a reason for them. If it’s China, are they testing US defense capabilities? And if they are, that leads to the obvious question of why they are testing them. Further, did China shoot down its own craft over Rizhao to keep up the ruse? White House Ousts Top Official Over Misuse of Govt Funds Following Congressional Outcry

The White House fired Architect of the Capitol Brett Blanton on Monday following complaints from a bipartisan group of Congress-members and the threat of impeachment.

An Inspector General report released in October 2022 found that Blanton and his family improperly used agency vehicles, taking them to West Virginia, Florida, and South Carolina. The Blanton family’s use of agency vehicles added up to at least $12,434 “in unreported, taxable noncash fringe benefits.” Blanton also allegedly misrepresented himself as a law enforcement official.

Democratic New York Rep. Joe Morelle, ranking member of the House Administration Committee, confirmed the firing in a statement.

“After being given the opportunity to respond to numerous allegations of legal, ethical, and administrative violations, and failing to directly respond, the President has removed Mr. Brett Blanton from his position – a decision I firmly stand behind,” he said. “President Biden did the right thing and heeded my call for action. I look forward to working with my colleagues to begin a search for a new Architect immediately.” (Read more from “White House Ousts Top Official Over Misuse of Govt Funds Following Congressional Outcry” HERE)
