‘Absurd and Discredited Story’: Trump Bashes Jan. 6 Panel

Former President Donald Trump released video bashing the Jan. 6 “witch hunt,” in one of his first public addresses of the Jan. 6 Committee since the release of its final report.

In the video, Trump derided the committee itself, Vice Chairwoman Liz Cheney, President Joe Biden, and the Democratic Party, among others. Trump claimed that the committee was intended to distract from other issues, and that it was deceptively editing information while ignoring evidence favorable to him.

“For two years as inflation skyrocketed, crime soared, the border was erased, Afghanistan was a disaster, and Joe Biden destroyed our country, the American people have been besieged with lies from the partisan witch hunt, known as the unselect committee on January 6,” he began. “The committee cut the part of my speech out where I encouraged protesters to make their voices heard, peacefully and patriotically, but no one ever says that.”

He quickly shifted to bashing Cheney, who has become perhaps the most vocal Trump critic in the Republican Party. He claimed that she, “lost her congressional race in Wyoming by the largest margin ever for a sitting congressperson, that’s 40%.” (Read more from “‘Absurd and Discredited Story’: Trump Bashes Jan. 6 Panel” HERE)

Biden Issues Dire Warning on Monster Winter Storm Sweeping US

By Fox News. President Biden warned travelers to “leave now” or face canceled plans amid a massive winter storm sweeping the U.S. on Thursday.

Biden confirmed the White House has reached out to at least 26 governors in affected states and is prepared to provide federal assistance. Biden told reporters the storm is “not like a snow day” before entering a meeting with officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Weather Service (NWS).

Blizzard conditions are threatening winter travel plans across the Great Plains and the Midwest. The NWS has warned that conditions could become life-threatening for travelers in many areas if they become stranded in their vehicles.

“I encourage everyone, everyone to please heed the local warnings. We’ve tried to contact 26 governors so far in affected regions,” Biden said.

The storm is expected to create record-low temperatures for Christmas weekend in many areas. (Read more from “Biden Issues Dire Warning on Monster Winter Storm Sweeping US” HERE)

Here’s What’s Driving the Frigid Storm That’s Messing up Holiday Plans Across the US

By The Verge. Frigid temperatures are expected to sting two-thirds of the continental US this week as a powerful storm system races eastward. The timing couldn’t be worse, hitting right before the holidays, when many Americans are planning to travel. Those journeys — and even just being outside in some of the hardest-hit regions — may become treacherous as brutal cold blankets the country. . .

The biggest culprit behind the holiday madness is an extremely cold air mass moving in from the Arctic. That’s ushering in conditions surprisingly similar to the legendary “Great Blizzard of 1978,” experts tell The Verge. Fortunately, forecasters can now issue more accurate warnings much earlier than they could in the ’70s. Hopefully, that’ll give people enough time to prepare and keep themselves safe. This storm system packs a number of punches — from rapidly dropping temperatures to dangerous winds, snow, and ice.

“You won’t see the like of this kind of a storm probably another time in the next 25 or so years,” Jonathan Martin, a professor of atmospheric and oceanic sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, tells The Verge. “It’s really intense, and in some locations, the impacts will be extraordinary.”

Why is the US facing a record-breaking cold air mass? Well, the sun set at the North Pole on September 21st. The Arctic is in the dead of its months-long winter darkness. With no sun to warm the air up, Martin explains, “All that the air can do is cool off because it’s a 24-hour-long nighttime. So you can generate exceptionally cold air masses at this time of year.” (Read more from “Here’s What’s Driving the Frigid Storm That’s Messing up Holiday Plans Across the US” HERE)

Popular Texas Sheriff Is the Latest Elected Official To Reject the Democratic Party and Become a Republican

An accomplished and popular Texas sheriff has determined that to continue the “strong tradition of excellent law enforcement in Karnes County,” he will have to do so as a Republican.

Thrice-elected Karnes County Sheriff Dwayne Villanueva announced he has switched parties, officially rejecting the Democratic Party and what it has come to stand for.

Republican Party of Texas Chairman Matt Rinaldi said in a statement, “I am proud to welcome Sheriff Villanueva to the Republican Party. As Democrats increasingly abandon and cripple law enforcement, it is no wonder more people are turning to the Republican Party.”

Texas Scorecard noted that while former President Donald Trump and U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) secured over 75% of the votes cast in the 2020 election in Karnes County, Villanueva still netted approximately 66% of the vote as a Democrat, winning by over 30 points.

Villanueva is popular in no small part due to the fact that he’s highly effective. (Read more from “Popular Texas Sheriff Is the Latest Elected Official To Reject the Democratic Party and Become a Republican” HERE)

‘Fatal Mistake’: Top Russian Official Warns Zelensky After Surprise US Trip

A Russian legislator issued a stark warning that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s faith in the United States was a “fatal mistake,” following his speech to Congress on Wednesday.

Dmitry Belik, a member of the Russian parliament, said all the allies of the U.S. eventually wind up abandoned to the “dustbin of history” and that Ukraine will be used as a bargaining chip to further U.S. interests overseas.

“All the allies of the United States ended up very badly, being on the sidelines or, rather, in the dustbin of history,” Belik told a Russian news agency, per Newsweek. “The Americans have only one ally — it is themselves, and all the rest are secondary figures that should ensure their prosperity and who, if something happens, can be betrayed.”

Zelensky gave a roughly half-hour address to a joint session of Congress in English on Wednesday night, voicing gratitude for the military aid given to his country while pleading for more. The address followed a meeting with President Joe Biden, whose administration unveiled a $1.85 billion assistance package earlier in the day featuring a Patriot missile system. The Pain Isn’t Goin’ Away: Inflation Cost Households an Extra $10K

Inflation is over, the administration crows, even as Congress works to pass another massive spending bill — this time, $1.7 trillion.

But struggling families know not to pop the cork yet.

The consumer price index rose just 0.1% last month, bringing the 12-month rate to 7.1% — still higher than any year since the disco days of 1981. Politicians have downplayed inflation ever since President Biden ignored economist warnings in early 2021 that it would be economic malpractice to throw a $1.9 trillion stimulus bill at a supply-constrained economy. Then we were told that inflation was “transitory,” a relic of corporate price gouging and “Putin’s price hike.” . . .

Since President Biden took office, the cumulative 13.8% inflation is roughly 10% higher than the baseline rate. This has cost the typical household approximately $10,000 over two years.

Those household costs will continue rising even if the inflation rate normalizes. That is because this recent extra 10% inflation will remain embedded in prices moving forward. Inflation rates may return to 2% or 3%, but they will be applied to a permanently elevated price level. And with wage growth notably slower than price growth over the past two years — producing the steepest decline in real wages in decades — most families will remain behind. ‘Furious’ Biden Dropped F-Bombs Over Border Crisis, Book Claims

The surge in illegal immigration at the southern border in the first months of Joe Biden’s presidency enraged the commander-in-chief, who was frustrated over what he saw as a “lack of solutions,” a forthcoming book claims.

Author Chris Whipple claims in “The Fight of His Life,” out Jan. 17, that Biden became “furious” as the number of migrant encounters at the US-Mexico frontier spiked almost immediately after he took office in January 2021.

“Aides had rarely seen him so angry,” Whipple writes, according to Fox News. “From all over the West Wing, you could hear the president cursing, dropping f-bombs (he’d always apologize when women were present).”

“It’s like, ‘How would you feel if you were me and these were the solutions you had?’ It’s the weight of the presidency, right?’” one of the now 80-year-old president’s advisers told Whipple. . .

“Early in his term he had reserved the f-bomb mostly for discussions of the southern border, but lately he was using it more often,” Whipple goes on. (Read more from “‘Furious’ Biden Dropped F-Bombs Over Border Crisis, Book Claims” HERE)

Swamp Miracle: Schumer Announces Agreement To Pass Omnibus Bill Before Christmas

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Thursday morning announced an agreement to advance the $1.7 trillion omnibus bill before Christmas weekend.

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Democrats have been working to pass the omnibus bill before a self-imposed deadline of Thursday to avoid a shutdown at midnight on Friday. But negotiations become sticky after Sen. Mike Lee’s (R-UT) Title 42 amendment threw a wrench in the Senate process. As a result, many critics of the deal were hopeful Congress would be forced to pass a short-term spending resolution (CR) to keep the government open, pending a continued standoff between Democrats on Lee’s amendment.

If Congress passed a short-term CR to keep the government open until February, conservative House Republicans would receive a significant victory. Defeating the omnibus bill would improve House Republicans’ position in the new Congress to gut many of the proposals in the massive spending bill. One of those proposals to cut would presumably have been the $45 billion worth of aid to Ukraine. The $45 billion is in addition to the $66 billion Congress already approved for Ukraine.

But Schumer has come up with a procedural tactic to circumvent Lee’s amendment and avoid failing to pass the massive bill before Christmas. According to Punchbowl News, Schumer has drafted a side-by-side amendment on Title 42, which is crafted to cancel Lee’s amendment by giving Democrats and Republicans each a vote.
