Kenneth Starr, Whose Probe of Clintons Exposed Monica Lewinsky Affair, Dead at 76

Ken Starr, a former federal judge whose investigation of Bill and Hillary Clinton’s Whitewater scandal uncovered the 42nd president’s affair with Monica Lewinsky and led to the second impeachment of a president in American history, died Tuesday at a Houston hospital.

Starr, a former US solicitor general during the George H.W. Bush administration, was 76. He died of complications from surgery, a spokeswoman said. . .

In 1994, a special three-judge panel of the DC Circuit tapped Starr to investigate Whitewater, a complex probe of real estate investments by the Clintons that expanded to take in the president’s affair with Lewinsky.

Starr graphically documented Bill Clinton’s illicit encounters with the then-White House intern in what became dubbed “The Starr Report,” in the summer of 1998.

“According to Ms. Lewinsky, she performed oral sex on the president on nine occasions. On all nine of those occasions, the president fondled and kissed her bare breasts,” his report said. “She called him ‘Handsome’; on occasion, he called her ‘Sweetie,’ ‘Baby,’ or sometimes ‘Dear.’” (Read more from “Kenneth Starr, Whose Probe of Clintons Exposed Monica Lewinsky Affair, Dead at 76” HERE)

Timeline of a Leak: Supreme Court Justices Think Roe Mystery Could Be Solved Soon

It’s been just over five months since a Supreme Court draft opinion signaling the overturning of Roe v. Wade leaked to the media — with no signs as to where it originated from.

The May leak of the draft opinion to Politico, which signaled the high court was poised to vote along conservative-liberal ideological lines to overturn Roe, became official when the June 24 opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization was released with hardly any changes from the draft.

In the months since the leak, justices have experienced heightened security concerns at their personal homes from pro-abortion rights protesters, coupled with a very real threat made against Justice Brett Kavanaugh in June, when a 26-year-old man came to his Maryland home armed with the intent to kill the justice, according to statements he made in a 911 call.

Justice Elena Kagan provided the latest indicator on Sept. 12 that an update over the investigation into the unprecedented leak could come before the end of this month, according to her comments during a planned discussion at Temple Emanu-El’s Streicker Center with Judge Alison J. Nathan, a member of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Kagan said she suspected none of her colleagues were privy to the efforts of the leak investigation “except for the chief justice maybe, about what the investigation has turned up if anything,” referring to Chief Justice John Roberts calling on the Supreme Court marshal to look into the origins of the leaked draft opinion in a statement on May 3. Twitter Was Notified That Chinese Spy Was on Company’s Payroll, Whistleblower Testifies

The former head of security at Twitter was told earlier this year by the U.S. government that there was at least one agent of China’s top intelligence agency, the Ministry of State Security (MSS), working as an employee at the company.

This was one of the revelations made by Peiter “Mudge” Zatko, a whistleblower who served as Twitter’s head of security for about 14 months before being fired earlier this year, during testimony before a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Sept. 13.

Ranking Member Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) asked Zatko: “In your disclosure, you mentioned that the FBI notified Twitter that one of their employees was suspected of being a Chinese foreign asset. Were you and others at Twitter at all surprised by that?”

Zatko replied that he was notified of this information about a week before he was dismissed.

“The corporate security physical security team had been contacted and told that there was at least one agent of the MSS, which is one of China’s intelligence services, on the payroll inside Twitter,” he said. Second Trial Between Alex Jones and Sandy Hook Parents Under Way

A jury in Connecticut will hear arguments today as it determines how much money radio host Alex Jones should pay relatives of victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Last year, in a rare move, Judge Barbara Bellis found Jones liable by default in a defamation lawsuit brought by parents of children killed in the Connecticut shooting over Jones’ statements that the shooting was a hoax. The judge stated Jones had failed to turn over documents that might have shown how he and his company profited from spreading his statements about the school shooting.

The current trial is being held in Waterbury, Connecticut, not far from Newtown, where 26 Sandy Hook Elementary School students and teachers were shot to death in 2012. The trial is expected to last “about a month and feature testimony from both Jones and the families,” reports NPR.

This is the second such trial for Jones, who was ordered by a Texas jury last month to pay over $45 million to Sandy Hook parents. (Read more from “Second Trial Between Alex Jones and Sandy Hook Parents Under Way” HERE)

Senator Calls Out Credit Card Companies for Tracking Gun-Related Purchases

On Tuesday, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) called out three major credit card companies over their decision to separate gun-related purchases from other transactions made with their payment cards.

To recap, the Associated Press reported this week that Visa said on Saturday that it will start separately categorizing sales made on their payment methods at gun shops. The report described this as a “major win” for those in favor of gun control, claiming it will “help better track suspicious surges of gun sales that could be a prelude to a mass shooting.” Mastercard and American Express said they would categorize these types of sales as well.

Townhall site Bearing Arms noted that this came after New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) urged credit card companies to “do their part” to stop gun violence.

Bearing Arms also noted that the CEO of Amalgamated Bank claims this move by credit card companies “answers the call of millions.”

‘The American People Won’: Biden Celebrates ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ as Market Plummets Over August Inflation News

President Joe Biden celebrated the passage of the “Inflation Reduction Act” by hosting an event at the White House Tuesday, the same day the Bureau of Labor Statistics released a report showing inflation had continued to rise in August, causing markets to plummet.

“This bill cut costs for families. Helped reduce inflation at the kitchen table, because that’s what [people] look at — how much of their monthly bills they have to pay out for their necessities,” Biden said in a speech delivered outside the White House, thanking West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin for voting for the bill.

“This bill alone is going to lower the deficit by $300 billion over the next decades” by lowering the cost of prescription drugs subsidized by the government, he added, saying the “American people won.”

The Bureau of Labor Statistics report, released Tuesday, showed that the Consumer Price Index (CPI), a key measure of inflation, increased by 8.3 percent in August when compared to the same month last year and increased 0.1 percent from July. Kansas Sheriff Threatens to Deploy ‘Army’ of Deputies Against IRS Agents

Johnson County Sheriff Calvin Hayden said a federal law allowing the Internal Revenue Service to add 87,000 employees posed a threat to people in Kansas’ most populous county and could require deployment of deputies to repel tax investigators.

Hayden, who described the IRS as a “spooky, spooky entity,” generated applause from a group of about 30 people during a two-hour open meeting at the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department headquarters with a promise to protect their homes as if they were castles.

The sheriff, who is leading a criminal investigation into alleged election fraud in the 2020 elections, said the IRS problem resulted from the Inflation Reduction Act approved by Congress and signed by President Joe Biden. The law earmarked $45 billion for enforcement activities over the next decade to help close the gap between what Americans owed in federal taxes and what they paid.

“That’s why it’s important for us to have an army that you can depend on,” said Hayden, referring to department’s 500 employees. “Because, I will tell you, they’re going to have to have every IRS agent in the United States come to Johnson County, Kansas, before they start doing the crap they’re doing. We’re going to be 500 strong, and we’ll do what we need to do.”

Hayden said he had authority to order the FBI to leave Johnson County, but he claimed to have less control over the IRS. He asserted IRS agents could enter homes of U.S. residents without a warrant. (Read more from “Kansas Sheriff Threatens to Deploy ‘Army’ of Deputies Against IRS Agents” HERE)

DOJ Refuses to Release Biden Administration Plan to Intervene in 2022 Election; GOP Sues Elections Board for Allegedly Breaking Mail-in Balloting, Election Observer Laws

By Breitbart. The Department of Justice (DOJ) is refusing to release 15 pages of documents explaining the Biden administration’s strategy to implement a “voter access” policy that is being coordinated with left-wing groups just weeks before the 2022 election.

In March 2021, President Joe Biden signed Executive Order 14019, “Promoting Access to Voting.” . . .

As Byron York of the Washington Examiner notes:

So the strategic plan, the document that would give the world some information on what the administration is doing to enact Biden’s order, remains a secret. But that’s not all. The Justice Department is withholding lots of other information, as well.

One troubling clue did make it past Justice Department censors. On July 12, 2021, the Justice Department held a “listening session” with outside activists working on voting rights. The group included dozens of people, all of them from left-leaning groups. There were 10 from the American Civil Liberties Union, five from the Campaign Legal Center, three from Demos, three from the Southern Poverty Law Center, five from the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, two from Black Lives Matter, and many others. The list would not reassure anyone hoping that the Justice Department is working in a scrupulously nonpartisan way. But of course, we don’t really know what the department is doing because the administration is keeping it a secret.

GOP Sues North Carolina Elections Board for Allegedly Breaking Mail-in Balloting, Election Observer Laws

By The Federalist. The North Carolina Republican Party (NCGOP), along with the chair of the Clay County Republican Party and the Republican National Committee (RNC), filed a lawsuit against the state’s Board of Elections (NCSBE) on Friday for allegedly “unlawful actions restricting party election observers and extending the delivery deadline for absentee ballots.”

According to the lawsuit, the plaintiffs accuse the NCSBE of “undermining both transparency and the rule of law by blocking the right of at-large election observers to have full access to voting places and unilaterally extending the deadline for the return of absentee-by-mail ballots.”

“While Chapter 163 of the North Carolina General Statutes grants certain powers and duties to the NCSBE, those powers and duties are also limited by the specific election laws,” the lawsuit reads. “As such, the NCSBE is not the final arbiter of election law in North Carolina; rather, it must exercise its authority in accordance with the statutes that grant it such power. Recent decisions of the NCSBE, however, have flouted its authority under the law.”

The Republican groups go on to note that under North Carolina state law, “in addition to voting place-specific election observers, the chair of each political party in each county can designate up to ten (10) at-large election observers ‘who are residents of that county who may attend any voting place in that county’” and “‘[t]he chair of each political party in the State shall have the right to designate up to 100 additional at-large observers who are residents of the State who may attend any voting place in the State.’” (Read more from “GOP Sues North Carolina Elections Board for Allegedly Breaking Mail-in Balloting, Election Observer Laws” HERE)

Woman Arrested for Threatening Judge in Trump Documents Case

A Texas woman has been arrested for allegedly making threats against the federal judge who granted former President Donald Trump’s request for a special master to review documents FBI agents seized from Mar-a-Lago.

In a criminal complaint, the FBI accused Tiffani Shea Gish of Houston, Texas, with leaving several threatening voicemails for U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who is presiding over Trump’s case against the Department of Justice. Gish is charged with making threats to influence a federal official and transmitting in interstate or foreign commerce communications containing threats to injure another person.

According to the affidavit by FBI Special Agent Amy Avila, on Sept. 3, 2022, Judge Cannon turned over three voicemails she received containing threatening messages to Supervisory Deputy United States Marshal Michael Witkowski.

The messages were left on Cannon’s answering machine on Sept. 1 by an individual who identified herself as “Evelyn Salt” and claimed to be “in charge of nuclear for the United States government.” Excerpts from the voicemails state that Trump was “disqualified” and “marked for assassination” and accused Cannon of “helping him.”

“So, here’s what we’re going to do, we’re going to let you disarm f***ing live nukes off your coffee table … how about you sit on an electric chair a couple times over … you think you’ve got the magical ability to pop up from the dead … pretending that you’re on the team of justice,” a message left for Cannon said. Justice Department OKs One of Trump’s Picks to Review Mar-a-Lago Docs

The Justice Department is on board with one of Donald Trump’s picks to independently review documents seized by the FBI at Mar-a-Lago last month, according to a new legal filing submitted by the agency.

DOJ lawyers, in the Monday night filing, said along with the two ex-judges the feds recommended, they’d also be open to the appointment of Raymond Dearie, the former chief judge of the federal court in the Eastern District of New York.

The special master appointment would sift through records recovered from the former president’s Florida estate on Aug. 8. The feds and Trump’s lawyers have disagreed over the exact role of the independent third-party and which documents they should review.

Dearie, who is on senior active status, has signaled he “could perform the work expeditiously” if appointed by US District Judge Aileen Cannon, the Justice Department said.

The DOJ’s picks to review the trove of docs were retired Manhattan judge Barbara Jones or retired federal appeals court judge in DC Thomas Griffith, who was appointed by ex-President George W. Bush. (Read more from “Justice Department Oks One of Trump’s Picks to Review Mar-a-Lago Docs” HERE)
