Obama: Signing Up for Obamacare Is ‘Just Part of Growing Up’ (+video)

Photo Credit: YouTube An interview former NBA star Charles Barkley conducted with President Obama aired last night on TNT. In the interview, President Obama defended Obamacare and called signing up for the health care program “just part of growing up”:

Barkley asked, “What do you think of the term Obamacare?”

“I like it. I don’t mind. And I tell you, five years from now, when everybody’s saying, ‘Man, I’m sure glad we got healthcare,’ there are going to be a whole bunch of people who don’t call it Obamacare anymore because they don’t want me to get the credit. But you don’t know what life will throw at you. And sometimes people don’t recognize, particularly young people, how important it is to have coverage until you get sick and you realize you may lose everything you have, or your parents may lose everything they have, trying to make you well. So we’re encouraging people to sign up. They’ve got until March 31 to sign up for this year.”

Spacey: ‘House of Cards’ Not Far From Reality (+video)

Photo Credit: pinguino/flickrActor Kevin Spacey says his Netflix show “House of Cards” isn’t that far from the reality of politics in Washington.

“Look, for me, it’s like performance art,” he said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.” “We can get done shooting on a day, and I’ll come home and turn on the news and think: ‘You know, our storylines are not that crazy, they’re really not.'”

With some exceptions, “This Week” host George Stephanopoulos cut in, such as politicians murdering people who get in their way.

“I’ve heard from lots of people,” Spacey said. “Some people feel that 99 percent of the show is accurate, and that the 1 percent that isn’t is that you could never get an education bill passed that quickly.”

Food Prices Soar as Incomes Stand Still (+video)

Photo Credit: CBS NEWSWriter Jen Singer, the mother of two teenage boys, wrestles with her grocery list every week to keep the household budget from getting away from her.

“I’d like the government to stop by my house, come food shopping with me and see where the real costs are,” she said.

The adage “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” is impossible thanks to apple prices, she said.

“We go through one of these every few days,” she said, holding a loaf of bread. “It’s a big part of my take home pay.”

It’s is not her imagination. While the government says prices are up 6.4 percent since 2011, chicken is up 18.4 percent, ground beef is up 16.8 percent and bacon has skyrocketed up 22.8 percent, making it a holiday when it’s on sale.

The First, Legal Gay Marriage In Texas? (+video)

Photo Credit: WNDJudge Carl Ginsberg presided over two ceremonies its participants believe are the first, legal gay marriage in Texas.

Two couples said their “I-do’s” and all four people consider themselves female. But one member of each couple has had their gender changed surgically from male to female.

“On all of my information, it still says male,” said Ashely Boucher. “So, legally I’m still male in the state of Texas. My presentation would suggest otherwise. But my documentation says that I can marry Genevieve no questions asked.

“If you were born male and became female through being transgendered or having a gender reassignment surgery, they consider you to be biologically male,” said UTA political science professor Thomas Marshall.

The couples struggled to find clerks and judges who would cooperate with the marriages trying as many as 17 courts according to one of the participants, Genevieve Jonte.

Biden: ‘There Isn’t a Republican Party’ (+video)

Photo Credit: APVice President Joe Biden, speaking to the House Democratic Issues Conference in Cambridge, Md., on Friday, said, “There isn’t a Republican Party,” claiming that there wasn’t one Republican “you could sit across the table from,” make a deal and know that it was done.

“There isn’t a Republican Party. I wish there were. I wish there was a Republican Party. I wish there was one person you could sit across the table from, make a deal, make a compromise, and know when you got up from that table it was done. That’s what political parties – that’s what Nancy’s able to do. That’s what the president’s able to commit to,” Biden said.

Levin: ‘I’m Sick and Tired of Defeatist Republicans’: Listen His Fiery Rant

Photo Credit: AFP/Getty ImagesConservative radio host Mark Levin says he is “sick and tired of defeatist Republicans,” especially after watching GOP leaders in both the House and Senate fail to even try to attach any conditions or reforms to the debt ceiling increase passed this week.

Appearing on “Your World With Neil Cavuto” on Friday, Levin went off on Republicans for failing to address the nation’s serious fiscal problems because they are too worried about winning elections.

“We have $100 trillion in unfunded liability, $17.3 trillion in fiscal operating debt, this debt ceiling increase will kick it to about $18.2 trillion,” the radio host said. “Let me tell you something, I am sick and tired of defeatist Republicans going on and on, ‘You’ve got to count the numbers.’”

“Leaders effect events. Leaders change mindsets. Leaders change trajectory,” he added. “Today, we’re told the Republican Party can’t do anything about trillions in unfunded liabilities in debt. Just keep voting for debt ceiling increases, keep funding Obamacare.”

Levin went on to argue that not enough Republicans are actually explaining the “looming catastrophe” facing the United States if it doesn’t get its fiscal house in order. Americans are intelligent and can “walk and chew gum at the same time,” he argued.

Where’s the Snow? On the Ground in 49 of 50 States (+video)

Photo Credit: @Falcon_2_Shark via TwitterBy Doyle Rice.

Snow is on the ground in 49 out of the 50 states — only the Sunshine State of Florida is completely snow-free, according to a map produced Thursday morning by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

(This doesn’t mean that those 49 states are snow-covered, of course, only that some part of each state has snow.)

Although this map doesn’t show it, there is snow in Hawaii, where webcams are showing snow on the high peaks of the mountain volcanoes of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea.

The map also doesn’t include Alaska, but it’s a given that most of that state is snow-covered this time of year. A quick check with the National Weather Service forecast office in Fairbanks found 19 inches of snow on the ground there.

Texas Teen Who Survived Skydive Fall Speaks Out For The First Time (+video)

Photo Credit: Fox NewsMany thought Mackenzie Wethington would never walk again after her parachute failed to open, sending her spiraling 3,500 feet before hitting the ground. Nearly a month after the accident, she’s made major strides in her recovery and spoke to the public for the first time.

“I remember jumping out of the plane and looking up and seeing there was a complication with the parachute,” said Wethington. “I started kicking my feet like I was taught in the class and I looked up and it still wasn’t fixing, so I tried to pull the toggles apart and I just was not strong enough to fight off the wind. I just remember screaming and I blacked out.”
