‘Caught Red-Handed’: Sekulow Details New ‘Smoking Gun’ IRS Emails (+video)

Photo Credit: Fox NewsJay Sekulow, chief counsel at the American Center for Law and Justice, testified before a House committee yesterday on the IRS scandal. He’s representing 41 of the conservative groups that say they were illegally targeted by the IRS.

During his testimony, he pointed to emails sent by former IRS official Lois Lerner that appear to contradict the administration’s assertions that the targeting was not a coordinated effort from Washington.

The emails were released by the House Ways and Means Committee as part of its probe of the IRS scandal. Sekulow explained that the emails show Lerner in contact with the IRS’ chief counsel and other top lawyers at least a year before the scandal became public. He said that Lerner wrote about coming up with new rules to restrict non-profit groups.

Most Of North Texas City Without Gas Service Or Heat (+video)

Photo Credit: euthman/flickrTexas Gas Service (TGS) was forced to shut down the gas supply to the entire city of Jacksboro Thursday. Most businesses and residents had no heat, on a day when temperatures struggled to get out of the teens.

The lack of services affected adults and children. The Jacksboro Independent School District even sent students home early and businesses closed all over town.

“I felt the cold breeze right in my face,” recalled Jacksboro resident Ana Karen. “There’s nothing to do [now] but, somehow keep warm.”

Trucks were bringing in compressed natural gas (CNG) to supply the small city hospital, senior living center, warming shelter and emergency operations center.

City manager Mike Smith said gas service started repeatedly turning off and on early Thursday morning. With pilot lights going out, there was a risk for gas buildup inside of structures. TGS notified the city it would have to shut off service completely.

Watch Bill Nye and Ken Ham Clash Over Evolution, Noah’s Ark and the Earth’s True Age in Nearly 3-Hour Debate

Photo Credit: YouTubeThe long anticipated face-off between “Science Guy” Bill Nye and creationist Ken Ham unfolded Tuesday night live from the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Ky. During the nearly three-hour debate, Nye essentially defended evolutionary theory, while Ham doubled down on central Biblical tenets.

An aura of respect was maintained throughout most of the dialogue, though the two did occasionally caustically address one another on matters pertaining to evolutionary significance.

In his opening remarks, Ham, who called the central debate between the two parties one centered on “worldviews and starting points,” charged that “the word science has been hijacked by secularists.”

To prove that scientists can hold diverse theological views, he went on to provide numerous examples of revered scientists who reject evolution and embrace Biblical creation. Among them: Dr. Raymond Damadian who invented the MRI as a tool for making medical diagnoses.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a creationist or an evolutionist. You can be a great scientist,” he said.

Video: Andrea Mitchell Warns Keystone Pipeline Would Ruin Obama’s ‘Climate Change Legacy’

Photo Credit: MRC On her 1 p.m. ET hour MSNBC show on Monday, host Andrea Mitchell warned that President Obama would endanger his reputation with left-wing environmentalists if he dared to approve the Keystone Pipeline: “It goes very much against the legacy, the climate change legacy of not only Barack Obama, but [Secretary of State] John Kerry has spent his whole life devoted to working on these environmental issues and all of his allies are really against this.” [Listen to the audio]

Mitchell began by observing that a new State Department report on the proposed oil pipeline “basically said there is going to be a bad effect on climate change whether they build this pipeline or not” and would give “some political cover to the President and Secretary Kerry if they want to go the route of building the pipeline.”

On Friday’s NBC Nightly News, Mitchell hyped environmentalist opposition to the project and efforts to discredit the newly-released study.

Lawmaker: Obama Should Win ‘Lie of the Year’ Again for Claiming No Corruption at IRS

Photo Credit: REUTERS/Larry DowningIdaho Republican Rep. Raúl Labrador said Wednesday that President Obama deserves to win the “Lie of the Year” award again in 2014 for saying there wasn’t a “smidgen of corruption” at the Internal Revenue Service when conservatives were targeted.

Labrador made the comments during a press availability with conservative lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

“I find it fascinating that this administration says there’s no smidgen of corruption, which I think will be the lie of this year,” Labrador said.

During a pre-Super Bowl interview with Fox’s Bill O’Reilly this week, Obama was asked about the revelation last year that the IRS had been intentionally targeting conservative groups for review.

State Dept.: Not Building Keystone Pipeline Could Increase Greenhouse Gas Emissions (+video)

Photo Credit: U.S. State DepartmentNot building the 875-mile Keystone XL Pipeline could result in the release of up to 42 percent more greenhouse gases than would be released by building it, according to the State Department.

Not building the pipeline “is unlikely to significantly impact the rate of extraction in the [Canadian] oil sands or the continued demand for heavy crude oil at refineries in the United States,” the department noted in a long-awaited environmental report released January 31st.

But the “No Build” option is likely to result in an increased number of oil spills, six more deaths annually, and up to 42 percent higher greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the State Department concluded.

The proposed 36-inch pipeline would transport 830,000 barrels of crude oil each day from western Canada through the Bakken oil fields of Montana and South Dakota before connecting to an existing pipeline in Nebraska on its way to Gulf Coast refineries.

The project will create an estimated 42,100 jobs and add $3.4 billion to the U.S. economy.

Dinesh D’Souza: Today’s US Government Would Terrify Founders (+video)

Photo Credit: cliff1066™Dinesh D’Souza — who made a documentary critical of President Barack Obama and has since been indicted for arranging excessive campaign contributions — says he is just one of many being penalized for criticizing Obama, and says the Founding Fathers would be terrified of what’s happening.

“There seems to have been a pattern of various groups critical of the president all getting inquiries and being subjected to a standard of scrutiny and review that had not been typical,” D’Souza told “The Steve Malzberg Show” on Newsmax TV.

“The federal government has a great deal of power, and now, with the NSA surveillance, with the government, in a sense, having access to your apps and your emails . . . the Founders would’ve been a little terrified about what this kind of power does to people,” D’Souza said Tuesday.

“Once you give the government this kind of power, what’s going to happen? How is that power going to be used?”

D’Souza, a conservative commentator and best-selling author who made the 2012 documentary “2016: Obama’s America,” was indicted by a federal grand jury last month on a charge of arranging excessive campaign contributions to an unnamed candidate for the U.S. Senate.
