Obama Takes a Subtle Presidents Day Jab at Trump’s Best Argument for 2020; Here’s What Trump Had to Say

By Washington Examiner. Goodwill between presidents took a back seat on Presidents Day 2020.

Former President Barack Obama appeared to take a rare political jab at his successor in a tweet Monday that cast aspersions on President Trump’s claims that he deserves credit for recent economic gains, a key reelection platform for the 45th president. . .

The tweet was a rare swipe at Trump by Obama, who has largely stayed out of the 2020 election cycle. Obama has yet to endorse any candidate seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, but his input about the economy nonetheless provides ammo to the entire field as they seek to counter Trump’s 2020 campaign, which has been touting record economic growth in the face of controversies such as the Russia investigation and impeachment.

During the Great Recession, which began under President George W. Bush, the unemployment rate surged and peaked at around 10% in 2010 before it began a steady fall under Obama. The downward trend has continued under Trump. The unemployment rate as of January sits at a low 3.6%, with 225,000 new jobs added that month.

Trump often touts the low unemployment numbers while on the campaign trail, but Democrats and other critics have pointed out that the decline in unemployment started while Obama was president. (Read more from “Obama Takes a Subtle Presidents Day Jab at Trump’s Best Argument for 2020” HERE)

Obama Attempts to Take Credit for Current Economy, Here’s What Trump Had to Say

By Daily Wire. President Donald Trump responded to former President Barack Obama trying to take credit for America’s booming economy on Monday by calling him a con artist. . .

The Wall Street Journal asked 68 economists who was responsible for the booming economy and the economists suggested that it was “President Trump, and not Obama, who should be taking a bow.” . . .

The unemployment rates for blacks, Hispanics, and Asians have all hit all-time record lows under the Trump administration and more than 6.2 million Americans have been lifted off of food stamps.

“The surge of minority women getting jobs has helped push the U.S. workforce across a historic threshold. For the first time, most new hires of prime working age (25 to 54) are people of color, according to a Washington Post analysis of data the Labor Department began collecting in the 1970s,” The Washington Post reported. “Minority hires overtook white hires last year. Women are predominantly driving this trend, which is so powerful that even many women who weren’t thinking about working — because they were in school, caring for kids or at home for other reasons — are being lured into employment, according to The Post’s analysis.” (Read more from “Obama Attempts to Take Credit for Current Economy, Here’s What Trump Had to Say” HERE)

Reporter Criticizes President Trump for Daytona 500 Appearance. It Doesn’t End Well.

A New York Times reporter criticized President Donald Trump for using his presidential limo, known as “The Beast,” during his visit to the Daytona International Speedway on Sunday. . .

Indeed, Trump was not in Daytona for a political event; rather, he was on hand as a VIP guest to give the iconic command of “Gentleman, start your engines” and to lead the field of 40 drivers during the pace laps before the race got under way.

“I’m sorry, but this is just an absurd characterization of what’s actually happening here and describing it this way betrays a real bias,” Mark Hemingway responded to Haberman.

“To be blunt, get a life, Maggie. Obama went to a #MarchMadness game and that was fine. Relax. I know the #Daytona500 is the opposite of what The Times represents readership-wise, but chill,” another person responded.

Senate Republicans Looking to Repeat 1986 Amnesty, Seeking President Trump’s Support: Sources

Senator Thom Tillis and other liberal Republicans are hell-bent on turning our rural communities into pipelines for cartel drug trafficking and criminal aliens. Rather than holding vote after vote on ridding our communities of sanctuary cities and dangerous criminal alien gangs and drug traffickers, liberal Republicans like Thom Tillis are working on, amazingly, more amnesty for illegal aliens. The North Carolina senator evidently doesn’t think that the Tar Heel State is turning blue like Virginia as quickly as he would like. He also believes that now that he lied about being tough on illegal immigration in order get Trump’s endorsement and scare away a primary challenger, he can go back to screwing his voters.

Two GOP staffers have informed me that Sen. Tillis, along with Sens. James Lankford (R-Okla.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), began working this Wednesday on an effort to get Trump’s support for a mass amnesty bill that passed the House last year. Rosemary Jenks, government relations director of Numbers USA, which is opposing the bill, confirmed to me that those are the three leaders of the potential bill in the Senate. Conservative HQ, a publication run by legendary conservative Richard Viguerie, reports that Tillis is expected to be the lead Senate sponsor and that Vice President Pence’s PAC is rumored to be supporting this bill. I’ve heard the same from my sources in the Senate as well.

Tillis has already publicly praised the bill, and according to my sources, has met with Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, along with several other GOP senators, to plan support for the bill. Notably, nobody from the DHS was present at the meeting to offer the border security perspective on the bill.

On December 11, House Democrats passed the Orwellian-named Farm Workforce Modernization Act (H.R. 5038). In plain English, it grants amnesty to every illegal alien in this country who claims to have worked at least part-time for agriculture and creates an unlimited agriculture guest worker program for the future to bring in millions of low-skilled workers. The cultural and fiscal costs are never factored in. It permanently tethers green cards for people coming in on these H-2 visas to the condition of working in agriculture for 10 years, creating an indentured servant model that, as Mark Krikorian observes, will prevent farms from ever modernizing and mechanizing their process because of the boundless flow of cheap labor.

What is so offensive about this bill is that the very reason these people are in the country to begin with is because we were lied to, including by some of the very same members of Congress who were there in 1986. Back then, they gave amnesty to 2.7 million illegal aliens, including 1.1 million who worked in agriculture, on the promise that future illegal immigration would be choked off by prohibiting illegal alien work in America. They pocketed the amnesty and then turned around and downright blocked enforcement of any of the laws and today are openly criminalizing enforcement in sanctuary states while encouraging illegal alien employment.

One would think that even Democrats, and certainly Republicans, wouldn’t have the chutzpah to show their faces before implementing our side of the deal from the last broken promise. Yet as if we are Charlie Brown with the football, they come with the same amnesty bill designed to reap the rewards of their insidious disobedience against the terms of the first amnesty.

In December, 34 Republicans supported that bill in the House, along with all but three Democrats. Undoubtedly, many more agree with the idea but were inclined to vote no as a minority party.

Curiously, the White House has been silent. Typically, such a transformative and consequential bill that passes the House would be met by what’s known as a Statement of Administrative Policy (SAP), expressing the president’s support or threat to veto. One would think Trump would veto an amnesty in a heartbeat, right? This bill was sponsored by Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), one of the House impeachment managers!

Well, if conservatives remain silent, that might not be the case. We already know that the president has permanently retreated from cutting the numbers of legal immigrants and from mandatory E-Verify, which was taken out of this year’s budget proposal. As with many issues, there are clearly competing voices within the administration, and if conservatives don’t get to the president first, the swamp will.

Remember when Thom Tillis suddenly got religion and introduced a bill to allow victims of criminal aliens to sue sanctuary cities? Although that bill was flawed, the idea behind it was good. The reason he introduced it was because he had a primary challenger with money. The minute Tillis secured Trump’s endorsement as being “tough on the border,” he had no need to push that bill any more, which is why you don’t see it coming up for a vote. Instead, it’s back to amnesty. The same dynamic played out with Lindsey Graham, who avoided a serious primary challenge by getting tough on illegal immigration for a few months.

How many more times will we be fooled?

The push by a North Carolina senator is especially jarring. I’ve reported on numerous cases of illegal alien sex offenders in North Carolina. According to the Epoch Times, one citizen in North Carolina collated criminal data from just 30 percent of North Carolina counties and found that in just the past 18 months, “more than 331 illegal aliens have been charged with 1,172 child rapes and child sexual assaults.”

Jobs in agriculture are the very magnet that was supposed to be shut off in exchange for the last amnesty. Why won’t Tillis ever consider the cultural, drug trafficking, and other criminal problems alongside the quest for cheaper labor? Why such a narrow focus?

The lesson for conservatives is we need to get to Trump before the swamp does. Otherwise, what is waiting for us on the other side of a victorious November election won’t be very victorious for the people who most ardently support the president. Funeral Homes in China’s Wuhan ‘Working 24/7 to Cremate Bodies’; US Testing Missing Cases; How the New Coronavirus Kills; Vaccine Discovered?

By RFA. Funeral homes in central China are working round the clock to cremate bodies during the coronavirus epidemic, while advertising to recruit manual workers to collect dead bodies from people’s homes by night, RFA has learned. . .

But there are indications that the true number of deaths in a city under quarantine may be far higher than the reported numbers indicate.

Social media users said there are 84 incinerators located at seven funeral homes across Wuhan, with a capacity to perform 2,016 cremations in any 24-hour period.

All of those funeral homes have been working around the clock in recent weeks, with dead bodies lying in rows waiting for cremation, social media reports said.

Wuhan voluntary worker Zhong Qiang, who recently carried out an unofficial survey of funeral homes and crematoria in Wuhan, said what he saw backed up the claims of 24-7 cremation in the city. (Read more from “Funeral Homes in China’s Wuhan ‘Working 24/7 to Cremate Bodies’” HERE)

CDC: US Test Kits “Flawed”

By Denise Grady. Some of the coronavirus testing kits sent to state laboratories around the country have flaws and do not work properly, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Wednesday.

The kits were meant to enable states to conduct their own testing and have results faster than they would by shipping samples to the C.D.C. in Atlanta. But the failure of the kits means that states that encountered problems with the test should not use it, and would still have to depend on the C.D.C.’s central lab, which could cause several days’ delay in getting results.

“Obviously, a state wouldn’t want to be doing this test and using it to make clinical decisions if it isn’t working as well, as perfectly, at the state as it is at C.D.C.,” Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said at a news conference on Wednesday. Vaccine Discovered in U.S.?

By Evie Fordham. An American biotech company says it created a coronavirus vaccine three hours after getting access to the virus’ genetic sequence in mid-January, and now scientists are racing to get the vaccine on the market in record time.

Inovio Pharmaceuticals is based in Pennsylvania, but scientists in its laboratory in San Diego made the discovery.

“We were able to rapidly construct our vaccine in a matter of about three hours once we had the DNA sequence from the virus available because of the power of our DNA medicine platform,” Dr. J. Joseph Kim, Inovio’s president and CEO, told FOX Business. “Our goal is to start phase one human testing in the U.S. early this summer.” (Read more HERE how this vaccine may stop the run on funeral homes).

The New Coronavirus Disease Can Take a Deadly Turn

By NPR. More than 1,300 people, almost all in China, have now died from COVID-19 — the newly minted name for the coronavirus disease first identified in Wuhan, China, that has infected more than 55,000 people. . .

The first symptoms of COVID-19 are pretty common with respiratory illnesses — fever, a dry cough and shortness of breath, says Dr. Carlos del Rio, a professor of medicine and global health at Emory University who has consulted with colleagues treating coronavirus patients in China and Germany. “Some people also get a headache, sore throat,” he says. Fatigue has also been reported — and less commonly, diarrhea. It may feel as if you have a cold. Or you may feel that flu-like feeling of being hit by a train. . .

But Furuya says that this immune system response to this invader can also destroy lung tissue and cause inflammation. The end result can be pneumonia. That means the air sacs in the lungs become inflamed and filled with fluid, making it harder to breathe.

Del Rio says that these symptoms can also make it harder for the lungs to get oxygen to your blood, potentially triggering a cascade of problems. “The lack of oxygen leads to more inflammation, more problems in the body. Organs need oxygen to function, right? So when you don’t have oxygen there, then your liver dies and your kidney dies,” he says.

That’s what seems to be happening in the most severe cases. About 3% to 5% of patients end up in intensive care, according to the WHO. And many hospitalized patients require supplemental oxygen. In extreme cases, they need mechanical ventilation — including the use of a sophisticated technology known as ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), which basically acts as the patient’s lungs, adding oxygen to their blood and removing carbon dioxide. The technology “allows us to save more severe patients,” Dr. Sylvie Briand, director of the WHO’s pandemic and epidemic diseases department, said at a press conference Monday. New Details Emerge in Ilhan Omar’s Marriage Scandal

New details involving far-left Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) marital scandal emerged on Friday after a British publication reported that Omar is paying her ex-husband to stay quiet about her alleged affair.

The Daily Mail reported that Omar’s husband, Ahmed Hirsi, “discovered the truth about her torrid affair with her chief fundraiser [Tim Mynett] when he went to her Washington D.C. apartment last spring and found the lovers lounging around in pajamas.” . . .

“He suspected she was cheating but she kept telling him he was paranoid,” a source told The Daily Mail. “He told her he wanted to move down to D.C. to be with her but she insisted he should stay in Minneapolis with the children. Eventually he surprised her down there and his worst fears were confirmed.”

Sources told The Daily Mail that Omar allegedly agreed to a financial settlement with Hirsi that would pay him tens of thousands of dollars per year, up to $250,000 total, “but only if he did not speak publicly about the marriage breakdown.” . . .

The source said that the embarrassment that Omar has caused the Somalia community comes from the alleged affair, her decision to hold an event at a distillery, and her embrace of LGBT rights. (Read more from “New Details Emerge in Ilhan Omar’s Marriage Scandal” HERE)

CDC Says Prep for Pandemic; Coronavirus Outbreak Exposes China’s Medical Supply Monopoly; North Korea ‘Executes Official for Visiting Public Bath While Quarantined’; ‘It’s Spreading Through the Eyes’

Coronavirus Outbreak Leads CDC to Warn Hospitals to Prep Pandemic Plans

By Terry Sater. Coronavirus has now surpassed the number of people infected with Ebola, SARS and MERS combined.

As those numbers continue to climb, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is now urging local hospitals to get out their pandemic plans and start preparing.

Doctors across the United States are using a novel coronavirus tracker created by Johns Hopkins University to prepare for a possible pandemic or outbreak. (Read more about the coronavirus outbreak HERE)

CDC: Get Used to Coronavirus, it’s Not Going Away for Years

By Jacqueline Howard. “Right now we’re in an aggressive containment mode,” CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield told CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta in an interview on Thursday.

“We don’t know a lot about this virus,” he said. “This virus is probably with us beyond this season, beyond this year, and I think eventually the virus will find a foothold and we will get community-based transmission” . . .

“The containment phase is really to give us more time. This virus will become a community virus at some point in time, this year or next year,” Redfield said. “We don’t have any evidence that this coronavirus is really embedded in the community at this time, but with that said, we want to intensify our surveillance so that we’re basing those conclusions based on data.” (Read more about the coronavirus outbreak HERE)

Coronavirus Outbreak Reveals China’s Monopoly on Medical Supplies That United States is Dependent On

By Breitbart. The coronavirus outbreak has exposed the United States’ dangerous dependence on China for pharmaceutical and medical supplies, including an estimated 97 percent of all antibiotics and 80 percent of the active pharmaceutical ingredients needed to produce drugs in the United States.

The economic repercussions of the coronavirus reveal the dangers of allowing one country to have a near monopoly on global manufacturing, David Dayen explains in an article at the American Prospect:

China is a source of not only finished goods, but also of input parts and raw materials. A substantial number of the materials needed for defense and electronic systems come from China, and that nation is “the single or sole supplier for a number of specialty chemicals,” according to a recent Defense Department report. Rare earth minerals, which are critical to electronics, are largely mined in China. As a result, Chinese disruptions don’t just hit Chinese manufacturing, they hit everyone’s. Automakers have already had to slow or shut down factories globally due to supply shortages.

Perhaps the biggest concern is over medical supplies. China produces and exports a large amount of pharmaceuticals to the U.S., including 97 percent of all antibiotics and 80 percent of the active ingredients used to make drugs here. Penicillin, ibuprofen, and aspirin largely come from China. Last month, the medical supply firm Cardinal Health recalled 2.9 million surgical gowns “cross contaminated” at a plant in China; the blood pressure drug valsartan also saw shortages recently, thanks to tainted active ingredients at one Chinese plant. The combination of supply chain disruptions and increased demand at hospitals if coronavirus spreads to the U.S. could prove devastating.

In a dark irony, most of the world’s face masks—now ubiquitous in China as a precaution—are made in China and Taiwan, and even for those made elsewhere, some component parts are Chinese-sourced. Shortages have led China to declare the masks a “strategic resource,” reserving them for medical workers. U.S. hospitals are “critically low” on respiratory masks, according to medical-supply middlemen. Lack of protective gear could increase vulnerability to the virus, and the one place on earth suffering from production shutdowns is the one place where most of the protective gear originates [emphasis added].

North Korea ‘Executes Trade Official for Visiting a Public Bath While He Was in Quarantine Over Coronavirus Fears After Returning From China’

By Daily Mail. A North Korean official has been executed for going to a public bath while he was meant to be in quarantine, a report in the South has claimed.

The trade official was arrested and immediately shot after risking the spread of coronavirus by visiting the public bath, the Dong-a Ilbo newspaper reported.

The official had been placed in isolation after travelling to China, with Kim Jong-un imposing military law to enforce the lockdown, sources said.

North Korea has not yet confirmed any cases of the virus, but has taken drastic measures to stop it spreading over its border with China.

The trade official was reportedly quarantined under a policy of isolating anyone who had been to China or had contact with Chinese people. Chinese Doc Says it Spreads Through the Eyes

By Vanessa Chalmers and Stephen Matthews. The killer coronavirus rapidly sweeping the world could be caught through the eyes, scientists have today warned.

Chinese doctor Wang Guangfa fears he may have contracted the SARS-like infection because he wasn’t wearing protective goggles.

Leading experts confirmed it is ‘absolutely possible’, saying the virus can enter the eyes by touching them – if it is on a patient’s hands.

And they even warned the virus – thought to be spread through sneezes and coughs – can roam through the body to reach the eye. (Read more about the coronavirus outbreak HERE)

This One Simple Strategy Can Help Republicans Everywhere Win Elections

A strange dichotomy has emerged from Bernie Sanders winning Iowa and New Hampshire. On the one hand, the Democrat Party is on its way to nominating an avowed socialist anarchist as its presidential candidate. On the other hand, roughly two-thirds of even today’s Democrat primary voters are voting for people who are at least perceived as more out of the box from the party establishment. If we had a Republican Party with a vision for safe, secure, sovereign, and prosperous communities, it could capitalize on the opportunity of a lifetime to drive a wedge between average suburban voters and the Democrat Party.

When you add together the votes of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, the two candidates who are most vocal and emphatic about their anarchist socialism, they compose roughly one-third of the primary vote. Also, most of Sanders’ support is buoyed by very young voters. He won a very small share of voters over 45. It’s evident from the first two Democrat presidential contests is that MSNBC and political Twitter don’t reflect America or even the majority of the Democrat electorate.

Whereas 70 percent of the GOP electorate in 2016 voted for Donald Trump or Ted Cruz, two candidates perceived as being to the right of the party establishment, the majority of Democrat voters are choosing candidates who are perceived as being more moderate than the party at large. The clear lesson is that the country is a lot more conservative than the political establishments let on.

It’s also quite evident that it’s downright political malpractice for Republicans to lose so many suburban voters when Democrats are run by Bernie Sanders and George Soros. These voters are disenchanted with both parties, but they certainly have no use for socialism, anarchy, and the embracing of criminals, terrorists, and illegal aliens in their communities. Just look at Democrats in Virginia promoting draconian gun control while they release violent criminals from prison and promote transgenderism in the schools. Suburban voters in states like Virginia might have been wary of Trump’s personality, but they certainly didn’t vote for this.

Imagine if Republicans capitalized on the impending Democrat implosion to actually speak to these voters and win a landslide up and down the ballot in November … and then delivered much-needed change?

However, that would take a coherent and united message, not just from the president, but from all Republicans running for office. What did the GOP-controlled Congress actually do during the first two years of this presidency, aside from the tax cuts? Almost every positive development was brought about through executive actions, many of which continue to be stymied by judicial interference that goes unchecked by Congress. Congressional Republicans should offer voters a new contract articulating what they will actually do on the other side of this election for the forgotten American taxpayers and consumers.

Rather than just winning an election battle, which Democrats are making increasingly easy for the GOP, how about trying to win cultural and civilization wars and actual policy outcomes?

Imagine if we had an entire new movement dedicated to new policies and messaging for returning power to the people from the federal courts, which have upended republicanism.

Imagine a party running on restoring the pyramid of governance and championing localism to make state legislatures great again.

Imagine a party running on creating a new tax system where localism would reign supreme and states would take the lead in setting the overall structure of the code.

Imagine a party that used its entire messaging apparatus to give a vision for an immigration system that enriches America rather than one that turns our communities into dumping grounds.

Imagine if we had a party that, while pushing localism for local issues, made the federal government strong and effective in the few areas it is supposed to dominate to protect national sovereignty and security. A party that relentlessly battled sanctuary cities in deed, not just in half-hearted rhetoric. A party with a vision for stemming the tide of gangs, drugs, and criminal aliens coming over the border and being harbored by these rebellious cities.

Imagine a party that placed the interests of victims of crime and the safety of suburban communities ahead of those of criminals with as much rigor as Democrats promote criminals.

Imagine a party that is able to speak about our 18 years of foreign policy failures engaging in Middle East urban renewal projects and a vision of peace through strength that always puts our interests first and focuses more on the threat at our border and China’s asymmetrical war against us.

Imagine a party that ran on rooting out crony capitalism and venture socialism, such as the ethanol mandate, which raises the cost of food and fuel in order to enrich wealthy lobbyists.

Imagine a party that ran on system reforms to our entire government, such as an Article V Convention, balanced budgets, and term limits.

And imagine a party with a vision of health care that eliminates the insurance cartel from getting between you and your doctor?

Trump is either intuitively oriented or at least open to most or all of these principles. However, absent a party whose congressional, gubernatorial, and state legislative candidates, along with its communications apparatus and donors, uniformly and emphatically push these principles with equal force against the way the Left pushes socialism and anarchy, we will not achieve this bold contrast after the election. Furthermore, absent any strong direction within the ranks of congressional Republicans, the swamp within the executive branch and among GOP leadership will neutralize Trump’s second term.

At the very least, House conservatives should craft a new contract with the forgotten American citizen to place American taxpayers first in everything government does. They should then publicize a 300-day plan of what they will do to further those principles legislatively if they win back the House. At some point, winning elections needs to be about winning the republic. (For more from the author of “This One Simple Strategy Can Help Republicans Everywhere Win Elections” please click HERE)

Actor to Name Hollywood Pedophiles During Groundbreaking Livestream Documentary; “Too Dangerous” for Netflix

By the Blaze. Actor Corey Feldman has announced that he will be naming Hollywood pedophiles in an upcoming livestream documentary about his experience as a child actor.

Feldman will also address the alleged abuse late actor Corey Haim suffered at the hands of the same purported pedophiles. . .

The film is set to be aired one time via livestream on March 9. Tickets go on sale on Feb. 22. Movieweb reports that Feldman said Netflix declined to distribute the film because it is “too dangerous.”

In the newly released trailer, Feldman can be seen speaking to an interviewer about the 911 call he placed to report the alleged sexual abuse.

Feldman looks apprehensive as the interviewer pulls up audio footage of what appears to be the 911 call on a cell phone, which he prepares to play for Feldman. (Read more from “Actor to Name Hollywood Pedophiles During Groundbreaking Livestream Documentary” HERE)

Hollywood’s Biggest Problem? Hollywood Pedophiles, Not “Me Too”

By Hannah Sparks. Corey Feldman wants the world to know: Pedophilia is “Hollywood’s biggest problem” . . .

The “Goonies” and “Stand by Me” actor also criticized the industry for impeding his film’s production by sending lawyers to block access to police reports and footage. “Nobody wants to go after the bad guys,” he said.

The eccentric star also took aim at #MeToo, decrying the film industry for giving momentum to that movement while ignoring his own explosive accusations for so long. . .

Feldman claims the pair — then two of the world’s most popular teen icons — were assaulted at the height of their careers. But by the time they were 19, the close friends and co-stars were addicts whose careers were all but finished. It’s been insinuated that the abuse contributed to their addiction. In the past, former child actor Alison Arngrim (“Little House on the Prairie”) claimed that “everyone knew” that Feldman and Haim were “passed around,” “given drugs” and “used for sex.” (Read more about the Hollywood Pedophiles HERE)

Cases of Infection, Deaths From Coronavirus EXPLODE in China; Coronavirus Cases Seemed to Be Leveling Off. Not Anymore; Trapped in China: U.S. Business Owner Stuck Overseas Amidst Coronavirus Outbreak

By Daily Wire. The number of cases of those infected by the coronavirus in China exploded on Thursday as nearly 15,000 new cases and 242 new deaths from the virus were reported after health officials broadened the types of cases that they includes in their count.

The 14,840 new cases in the Hubei province was by far the largest single day spike of new cases as was the additional 242 people who were killed by it.

“Chinese officials previously only counted cases confirmed by nucleic acid tests, which critics said were faulty and greatly underestimated the true magnitude of the epidemic,” The Washington Post reported. “For weeks, Chinese doctors and patients have complained about a lack of nucleic acid testing kits and their accuracy. The dramatic jump in cases in Hubei essentially confirms longtime suspicions that China was for weeks vastly undercounting cases of the virus.” . . .

“The monthly survey of economists found 83% of economists expected the coronavirus outbreak will have a small impact on U.S. gross domestic product growth from January to March, or less than 0.5 percentage point,” The Journal reported. “Just 5% of forecasters expected a significant reduction of more than 0.5 percentage point off the quarter’s annual growth rate, while 10% expected no impact.”

Constance Hunter, chief economist at KPMG, told The Journal, “The negative demand shock from coronavirus is significant. China’s GDP will be impacted significantly and this will show up in everything from commodity prices to demand for global goods and services.” (Read more from “Deaths From Coronavirus Explodes in China” HERE)

Coronavirus Cases Seemed to Be Leveling Off. Not Anymore.

By The New York Times. The news seemed to be positive: The number of new coronavirus cases reported in China over the past week suggested that the outbreak might be slowing — that containment efforts were working.

But on Thursday, officials added more than 14,840 new cases to the tally of the infected in Hubei Province alone, bringing the total number to 48,206, the largest one-day increase so far recorded. The death toll in the province rose to 1,310, including 242 new deaths.

The sharp rise in reported cases illustrates how hard it has been for scientists to grasp the extent and severity of the coronavirus outbreak in China, particularly inside the epicenter, where thousands of sick people remain untested for the illness.
