Trump Supporter Confronts Justin Amash for Endorsing Impeachment, and It Gets Very Heated

Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) was confronted by a Trump supporter at his town hall meeting who wanted answers after the Republican Libertarian called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump. . .

“This is what Mueller and the Democrats have all tried to, and the deep state, the bureaucrats, I don’t know if you’ve ever dealt with a bureaucrat, but it’s just mind-boggling that we have to deal with them,” the woman said, “I have a lot of experience.”

“How come you’ve become a Democrat when we voted for you as a Republican because you just drink the same Kool-Aid as all the Democrats?” she asked. . .

“First I have one of the most constitutionally conservative and fiscally conservative voting records in the whole Congress,” Amash answered to great applause.

“And in fact, I have voted to spend less than any member of Congress in either chamber since I’ve been in Congress,” he explained,” so I’ve voted for less spending. When I got elected as part of the Tea Party movement, people cared about limited government, they cared about fiscal conservatism, making sure that our government wasn’t spending too much. Obama Administration’s Actions Against Press Worse Than Previously Known

By Daily Wire. On Thursday, the Columbia Journalism Review reported on the results of a Freedom of Information Act request for documents related to the Obama Justice Department’s attempts to crack down on leaks to reporters which reveal that the Obama administration’s actions against the press “were broader than previously known.”

The report — which begins by warning against the threat the Trump administration poses to the freedom of the press — presents an alarming picture of the previous administration’s efforts to surveil the press and track down sources of leaks (h/t Ed Morrissey). . .

“In 2013, the Justice Department launched a brazen attack on press freedom, issuing sweeping subpoenas for the phone records of the Associated Press and several of its reporters and editors as part of a leak investigation,” the authors report. While those subpoenas have long been understood as “a massive intrusion into newsgathering operations,” they note, the recently unearthed 2014 report reveals that the subpoenas targeting AP “told only part of the story.”

The Office of Professional Responsibility’s report on the Obama Justice Department’s subpoenas of AP phone records reveals that “the DOJ’s actions against the AP were broader than previously known, and that the DOJ considered subpoenaing the phone records of other news organizations, including The Washington Post, The New York Times, and ABC News,” the authors explain. The report also reveals “how narrowly the DOJ interprets the Media Guidelines, the agency’s internal rules for obtaining reporters’ data.” (Read more from “Obama Administration’s Actions Against Press Worse Than Previously Known” HERE)

Report Reveals New Details About DOJ’s Seizing of AP Phone Records

By Columbia Journalism Review. A new report obtained by the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University and the Freedom of the Press Foundation (where the authors work) under the Freedom of Information Act shows that the DOJ’s actions against the AP were broader than previously known, and that the DOJ considered subpoenaing the phone records of other news organizations, including The Washington Post, The New York Times, and ABC News. Moreover, they reveal how narrowly the DOJ interprets the Media Guidelines, the agency’s internal rules for obtaining reporters’ data.

In May 2012, the AP published several articles about a successful CIA operation that thwarted a Yemen-based bomb plot. These articles contained classified information and their publication prompted a leak investigation. In February 2013, then Deputy Attorney General James Cole approved a request by DOJ attorneys to subpoena the telephone records of the AP as part of this investigation. . .

The report, which was submitted to then–Attorney General Eric Holder in 2013, reveals that the leak probe was broader than previously understood. It reveals, for example, that, while the Justice Department obtained telephone toll records for 21 telephone numbers, the agency in fact issued “30 subpoenas to obtain telephone toll records for 30 unique telephone numbers.” The report reveals that those 30 subpoenas were intended to target seven reporters and editors, and covered a period of six weeks spanning April 1, 2012 to May 10, 2012.

The report also shows that, at least at one stage of their investigation, Justice Department attorneys considered subpoenaing the records of The Washington Post, The New York Times, and ABC News. What’s more, the report strongly suggests that the attorneys went so far as to obtain “telephone numbers and other contact information” for reporters and editors at those organizations who had worked on articles about the Yemen bomb plot. The report records, however, that the attorneys ultimately decided against issuing additional subpoenas. (Read more from “Report Reveals New Details About DOJ’s Seizing of AP Phone Records” HERE)

Disabled Girl Who Was Horribly Shamed Online by Abortion Activists Dies ‘After Living Life to the Fullest’

The Cornelius girl whose facial deformity made her both a target of social media trolls and a symbol of public acceptance of people with disabilities has died, her mother said.

A Twitter user early last year included a photo of Sophia Weaver in a tweet “as the poster child to abort bc she’s disabled.” Sophia’s mother, Natalie Weaver, complained and the social media platform eventually apologized and clarified its rules on hate speech.

Sophia had Rett syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that occurs mostly in girls and affects the abilities to speak, walk, eat and breathe, the Associated Press has reported. . .

Weaver posted an update early Friday: “‪Our #SweetSophia left this earth last night as she spent every day of her life, surrounded by love & adoration…. Once we pull ourselves from this heart shattering pain we will continue to help others in her memory.” . . .

Weaver had advocated for her daughter, and for the public acceptance of other children with disabilities and facial deformities, well before the Twitter incident. She’s co-founder of the nonprofit Advocates for Medically Fragile Kids NC. Left-Wing Pastor Denounces ‘Straight White Men’ During Christian College Commencement Prayer — and Gets Cheers from Crowd

A left-wing pastor from a progressive church denounced “straight white men” in his commencement benediction last weekend at Baylor University, a private Christian college in Waco, Texas.

Dan Freemyer — pastor of missional engagement at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth, which calls itself “fully affirming of women in lay and professional ministry roles and fully inclusive of LGBTQ+ persons” — got in a mention of the graduates’ “privileges” during his prayer Saturday morning along with an environmental appeal before turning his attention to skin color.

“And God, give them the moral imagination to reject the old keys that we are trying to give them to a planet that we’re poisoning by running it on fossil fuels and misplaced priorities,” he prayed. “A planet with too many straight white men like me behind the steering wheel while others have been expected to sit quietly at the back of the bus.” . . .

Rod Dreher, writing for the American Conservative, called Freemyer’s benediction “appalling” before asking, “I wonder how many straight white men are Baylor donors? I wonder how many straight white male and female parents of high school students will understand the meaning of this signal, and look elsewhere for their children’s Christian college education?” (Read more from “Left-Wing Pastor Denounces ‘Straight White Men’ During Christian College Commencement Prayer — and Gets Cheers from Crowd” HERE)

Senator Reveals What John McCain Was Saying During Trump’s Inauguration Ceremony

Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar said the late Sen. John McCain compared President Donald Trump to notable dictators aloud during the president’s 2017 inauguration ceremony.

Speaking in Iowa on a campaign stop ahead of the 2020 presidential election, Klobuchar said she was seated next to Democratic Sen. Bernie Sanders and longtime Republican McCain, who “knew more than any of us what we were facing as a nation.”

“I sat on that stage between Bernie and John McCain, and John McCain kept reciting to me names of dictators during that speech because he knew more than any of us what we were facing as a nation,” Klobuchar said. “He understood it. He knew because he knew this man more than any of us did.”

McCain and Trump publicly squared off multiple times since the 2016 Election. Trump jabbed at the senator for his vote that killed the Obamacare repeal and raised eyebrows by mocking his capture while serving as a fighter pilot in Vietnam, saying he likes “people who weren’t captured.”

McCain’s August 2018 death brought the pair’s fraught relationship into focus, as Trump was asked not to attend the funeral and McCain’s daughter Meghan took aim at the state of the country under the president in her eulogy for the massive crowd of Washington heavyweights. Oh, so That’s Why Ocasio-Cortez’s Attack on a CNN Reporter Totally Blew up in Her Face

By Townhall. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) ate it last week. No, it wasn’t about the Green New Deal, which is a recipe for economic disaster; it was a poorly executed counterattack against…the media. Yep, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is running for the Democratic nomination in 2020, so your whole life goes under the microscope. Y’all know the drill. It so happens that she had quite the legal career as well, charging $675/hour and worked on over 50 legal cases. CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski simply tweeted about this dot on Warren’s resume, which AOC thought was an attack, pulled the trigger, but got face-full of buckshot instead. You see—the article was written by two female reporters from The Washington Post; Kaczynski didn’t even write it. AOC thought his comment about it on Twitter was sexist. Daily Wire has more:

Kaczynski did not write the article (which AOC apparently did not read), but two female reporters from The Washington Post did. And while the piece was rather pointless, it wasn’t an attack on Warren, though Ocasio-Cortez is usually the one vilifying folks for making big money.

“Sen. Elizabeth Warren worked on more than 50 legal matters during her career as a professor at Ivy League law schools, charging as much as $675 an hour to advise a variety of clients, from people with asbestos disease to a corporation facing possible liability over ruptured breast implants,” said The Washinton Post article shared by Kaczynski.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Accuses Former Trump Aide Hope Hicks of ‘Considering Participating in a Coverup Led by the President’

By Business Insider. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York was among several who criticized The New York Times on Sunday for writing that the former White House aide Hope Hicks was facing an “existential question” over whether to comply with a congressional subpoena.

Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee have demanded that Hicks produce documents by June 4 and testify before Congress on June 19 as part of the committee’s investigations into possible obstruction of justice and corruption in the Trump administration.

Ocasio-Cortez was critical of The Times’ framing of the story, which described Hicks’ “dilemma” as an “existential question,” rather than a straightforward matter of law and order.

“What gets me is news breaks that this woman is weighing committing a crime before Congress & it’s getting framed by the NYT as some Lifetime drama called ‘Hope’s Choice,'” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “This is a fmr admin official considering participating in a coverup led by the President. Treat her equally.” (Read more from “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Accuses Former Trump Aide Hope Hicks of ‘Considering Participating in a Coverup Led by the President'” HERE)

Get Wrecked: The Moment Where This Liberal Feminist Realized a Big Thesis in Her Book Was Wrong

We all make mistakes. Some are bigger than others. When that happens, you need to fix it and acknowledge it immediately. Yet, it gets to become rather embarrassing, disastrous actually, when you realize that virtually your entire body of work is wrong because you screw up the legal term. That’s what happened to Naomi Wolf’s latest book, “Outrages: Sex, Censorship and the Criminalization of Love.”

Wolf wrote that scores of executions were carried out in the 19th century for homosexual behavior. Ms. Wolf also didn’t know a key sodomy case in her book was actually in reference to child sex abuse. Oh, and “death recorded” also threw her off (via Daily Beast) [emphasis mine]:

During the interview with journalist Matthew Sweet, Wolf realized she’d made two huge errors in her book. The host pointed out two serious problems with her work. First, she assumed “sodomy” means homosexuality, but Sweet pointed out that, in one key case in her book, it was referring to child sex abuse. Second, she mistakenly believed the 19th-century legal term “death recorded” meant the convict was executed, but it actually meant a death sentence wasn’t carried out because the prisoner was pardoned and freed. So Wolf’s claim that there were “several dozen” executions for homosexuality appears to be based on a complete misunderstanding of old court records. “I don’t think any of the executions you’ve identified here actually happened,” said Sweet.

This Poll Gives STRONG Evidence for Reelection of President Trump

By Daily Wire. According to the results of a CBS poll conducted between May 17-20, the chances of president Trump getting elected look pretty strong, as the poll found 71% of respondents felt the economy was in good shape. 94% of Republicans and 66% of Independents agreed, and even an astonishing 60% of Democrats echoed the sentiment.

Additionally, the poll found that as opposed to the beginning of 2018, when only 32% of respondents gave Trump credit for the strong economy, that figure has risen to 41%. Another 44% gave Trump partial credit for the strong economy.

In the last four months, the percentage of respondents who are optimistic about the stock market rose from 49% to 56%. 64% of respondents felt reasonably confident about their own financial situation. . . .

Also at the beginning of May, even CNN admitted:

And the reality is, voters don’t like to punish incumbents when the economy feels fine. Remove Gerald Ford, who was never elected in his own right and had just pardoned Richard Nixon, and you have only three incumbents who’ve lost reelection in the last 100 years. The other three each had an economic calamity they were dealing with. Herbert Hoover had the Great Depression. Jimmy Carter had a recession. George H.W. Bush had a recession.

Americans Feel Good About Economy and Give Trump Credit

By CBS News. Most Americans remain confident about the U.S. economy and in their own financial situation, and more now give President Trump’s policies credit for a strong economy than did so last year.

Seven in 10 Americans say the economy is in good shape, including a quarter who say it is very good. Nearly all Republicans and most Democrats and independents share this view. . .

Forty-one percent of Americans approve of how Mr. Trump is handling his job as president. That is closer to where his rating was last summer than it was in this poll more recently, in January. Approval ratings have remained within a fairly narrow range throughout his presidency so far.

Across particular measures, the economy is the president’s strongest: 50% of Americans approve of how he’s handling the economy. In contrast, more Americans disapprove of his handling of immigration, foreign policy, and trade with other countries. (Read more from “Americans Feel Good About Economy and Give Trump Credit” HERE)

Adam Schiff Makes Quite a Revealing Statement After Trump Orders Declassification of Spying Documents

By Townhall. Last night, President Trump gave Attorney General Bill Barr the authority to declassify information and documents related to the FBI’s spying during the 2016 presidential election. He’s asked for a number of government agencies to cooperate with Barr’s inquiry, including the State Department, Treasury, Defense, Energy, Homeland Security, CIA and the Director of National Intelligence.

“Today, at the request and recommendation of the Attorney General of the United States, President Donald J. Trump directed the intelligence community to quickly and fully cooperate with the Attorney General’s investigation into surveillance activities during the 2016 Presidential election,” the White House released in a statement. “The Attorney General has also been delegated full and complete authority to declassify information pertaining to this investigation, in accordance with the long-established standards for handling classified information. Today’s action will help ensure that all Americans learn the truth about the events that occurred, and the actions that were taken, during the last Presidential election and will restore confidence in our public institutions.”

Declassification means more transparency for the American people. Hopefully, it will lead to accountability for those who turned federal law enforcement agencies into political weapons against private American citizens.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff has a different take. Ironically, it exposes Democrats.

BLAST FROM THE PAST: Trump threatens to declassify ‘devastating’ docs about Democrats

(New York Post, 11/28/18): President Trump said Wednesday that if House Democrats launched probes into his administration — which he called “presidential harassment” — they’d pay a heavy price.

“If they go down the presidential harassment track, if they want go and harass the president and the administration, I think that would be the best thing that would happen to me. I’m a counter-puncher and I will hit them so hard they’d never been hit like that,” he said during a 36-minute Oval Office sitdown.

The commander-in-chief said he could declassify FISA warrant applications and other documents from Robert Mueller’s probe — and predicted the disclosure would expose the FBI, the Justice Department and the Clinton campaign as being in cahoots to set him up. Barack Obama, Envious of Michelle’s Memoir Success, Throws Her Under the Bus

The success of Michelle Obama’s memoir Becoming apparently has Barack Obama feeling a lot of pressure for his own forthcoming memoir. Of course, his memoir has yet to be finished, and its release has been pushed back to 2020 or even 2021. “The writing has been going more slowly than he’d expected,” reports The Atlantic. “And according to several people who have spoken with him, the 44th president is feeling competitive with his wife, whose own book, Becoming, was the biggest release of 2018 and is on track to be the best-selling memoir in history.” . . .

His unfinished and yet-to-be-titled book will be his third memoir and will cover his political career from his 2004 Democratic National Convention speech through his presidency. The former first couple received a combined $65 million for their post-White House memoirs. His insecurity and competitiveness, while laughable, isn’t even the best part of the report:

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, like others in this story, these sources note he’ll occasionally point out in conversation that he’s writing this book himself , while Michelle used a ghostwriter.

It’s really sad that Barack Obama feels so insecure and competitive about his forthcoming book that he feels the need to point out that Michelle didn’t actually write her bestselling memoir. Did anyone really think she wrote it herself anyway? Why would Barack feel the need to throw her under the bus like that?
