Radical Abortion up Until Birth Bill Defeated in Senate

On Monday night, the U.S. Senate voted 46-48 for the so-called Women’s Health Protection Act, which will not only codify Roe v. Wade into federal law, but would override virtually every pro-life law at the state level, thus allowing for unrestricted abortion up until birth. While the radical legislation could not overcome the filibuster, it would have been a close vote without it in place.

Sen. Joe Manchin (WV) was the only Democrat who voted against allowing the bill to proceed for debate. Shortly before the vote took place, Sam Runyon, Manchin’s communications director, emailed Townhall that “Senator Manchin’s position has not changed,” reaffirming his stated pro-life position.

As I covered recently, however, Sen. Bob Casey Jr. (PA), had previously come out in support of moving forward, and cast his vote accordingly. Casey has portended to be a pro-life Democrat, though his voting record surely suggests otherwise.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) spoke in favor of the bill earlier on the Senate floor and during a press conference beforehand, joined by Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) and the bill’s sponsor, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT).

During the press conference, Schumer referred to the abortion issue as “a vital and important issue,” claiming they were standing “as a united front,” despite how Manchin ultimately voted against it. Of the vote to allow debate to take place, Schumer referred to it as a “simple but urgent question” while at the press conference. University Report Tries to Explain Away Barbaric Experiments With Aborted Babies

After news broke last spring that the University of Pittsburgh is using aborted babies for taxpayer-funded medical research, often in barbaric experiments, Pitt asked an independent firm to conduct an investigation into their researchers’ compliance with state and federal laws. The findings of that investigation were released last week, but the report arguably raises more questions than it answers.

Hyman, Phelps and McNamara (HPM), the D.C.-based law firm hired to conduct the “regulatory assessment,” said they found Pitt’s academic research with human fetal tissue to be “fully compliant with applicable laws.” But a close reading of the 40-page report shows that HPM intentionally limited the scope of their investigation, allowing investigators to turn a blind eye to some of the most damning allegations related to fetal tissue research. . .

HPM admits they did not investigate the two university clinics where university researchers source their aborted fetal tissue: the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, where more abortions are performed than in any other hospital in the state.

HPM reasoned they could only investigate activities for which Pitt has regulatory control, and that excludes UPMC because it is a private nonprofit that the university “has no role in managing or supervising.” This is a significant omission because some of the most atrocious allegations, including labor-induced, partial-birth abortions, occur at UPMC. Investigators instead focused on fetal tissue that is collected and distributed by the Pitt Biospecimen Core (PBC). What investigators failed to mention is that PBC laboratories are located inside UPMC hospitals, including one in the Magee-Womens Hospital.

HPM tried to justify the serious omission with a caveat that even though they cannot hold Pitt responsible for UPMC, they did evaluate “whether Pitt satisfied its independent duty to confirm compliance of specified activities related to fetal tissue undertaken by UPMC.” In the limited investigating they did do of UPMC, HPM found issues with incomplete forms at UPMC used for obtaining consent from pregnant women to use their babies’ organs for research. Those forms were included in the report and tell us a lot about how consent is obtained. (Read more from “University Report Tries to Explain Away Barbaric Experiments With Aborted Babies” HERE)

SCOTUS Declines to Intervene in Challenge Over Texas Abortion Law

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) rejected another request to block Texas’ law, S.B. 8, which bans abortions after fetal heartbeat detection.

The Texas Tribune reported that abortion providers in the legal challenge against S.B. 8 requested SCOTUS to intervene in their ongoing lawsuit, Whole Woman’s Health v. Jackson.

Last month, as I covered, SCOTUS upheld S.B. 8 and returned the case back to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. SCOTUS did not allow the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) separate lawsuit over S.B. 8, United States v. Texas, to move forward.

This week, I covered that the Fifth Circuit sent the case to the Texas Supreme Court, which is “expected to add months to the legal proceedings,” the Tribune explained in their report.

S.B. 8, which took effect Sept. 1, bans abortions at approximately six weeks gestation and allows private citizens to pursue legal action against anyone who provides an illegal abortion or “aids or abets” and illegal abortion. Those who successfully bring lawsuits under S.B. 8 can receive $10,000. As I reported, abortions in the state dropped by half in October – one month after the law took effect. Poll Shows Large Majority of Americans Support Abortion Restrictions

The vast majority of Americans support restrictions on abortion, according to a new poll sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and conducted by Marist Poll. The poll also found that a majority of Americans want to return abortion restrictions to the states, in contrast to the central ruling of Roe v. Wade (1973).

“When it comes to the direction of government policy, there has been consistency and consensus in American public opinion on the issue of abortion over the decades,” Dr. Barbara Carvalho, director of the Marist Poll, said in a press release on the results.

“As we await a decision in the Supreme Court case Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, our polling continues to show that over 60% of Americans reject the central holding of Roe v. Wade, and want to return the decision to the states or make abortion illegal,” Knights of Columbus Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly said in the release. Dobbs v. Jackson centers on whether all pre-viability restrictions on elective abortion are unconstitutional.

The Knights of Columbus-Marist poll does not just ask Americans whether or not they support Roe v. Wade or whether they identify as “pro-life” or “pro-choice,” but rather presents in-depth questions about abortion issues, probing Americans’ public policy opinions rather than identity markers.

“When asked about their actual opinion, 71% of Americans support real restrictions that are more pro-life than federal law and the laws of many states,” Timothy Saccoccia, vice president at the Knights of Columbus, said on a press call regarding the poll. He noted that 54% of Americans identify as “pro-choice,” but this label does not translate to a support to unlimited abortion. How an MLB Pitcher and Gun Rights Lobbyist Are Teaming up to Abolish Abortion… One State at a Time

. . .Dennis Sarfate — the president of Action for Life — is a former MLB pitcher who played for the Milwaukee Brewers, Houston Astros, and Baltimore Orioles before becoming a five-time Japan Series Champion. Zach Lautenschlager — the vice president of Action for Life — is a professional political operative who was instrumental in passing “constitutional carry” laws across the United States.

In an interview with The Daily Wire, Sarfate and Lautenschlager explained how they were brought together by their desire to glorify Jesus Christ while establishing equal protection for the preborn — one state at a time. . .

On one hand, Lautenschlager grew up in a multi-generational Christian home. “My folks taught me who Jesus was from the very start. What blows me away every day is how sinful I am in myself, and how gracious God is despite my sin… I’m still a sinful, fallen human being, and God’s grace is so massive, so huge, and His loving kindness is so amazing. The older I get, the more I see it.”

Sarfate, on the other hand, was not saved until his adulthood. “I grew up playing baseball my whole life… When I got drafted the second time, I wasn’t a believer. I was actually raised in a Catholic church — just dabbled in it every once in a while when I felt like I needed some kind of good luck. Even in the big leagues, I would go to chapel on Sundays — thinking that if I did that, God would definitely bless me with a scoreless inning.”

“It wasn’t until I left the United States and went to Japan that God just wrecked me and saved me from my sin,” Sarfate continued. “He allowed my heart to be changed — and that was in 2011… I was in an atheistic country with no Christian teammates, so I was off to fend for myself and study on my own and be held accountable by literally no one. I didn’t even have a church back at home.” (Read more from “How an MLB Pitcher and Gun Rights Lobbyist Are Teaming up to Abolish Abortion… One State at a Time” HERE)

Abortion Leading Global Cause of Death in 2021 With 43 Million Killed

Abortion was the leading cause of death globally in 2021, with nearly 43 million unborn babies killed in the womb, according to data provided by Worldometer.

As of noon on December 31, 2021, there were 42.6 million abortions performed in the course of the year, Worldometer revealed, while 8.2 million people died from cancer, 5 million from smoking, 1.7 million of HIV/AIDS, 1.3 million from traffic fatalities, and 1 million from suicide.

Totaling all the deaths in the world from causes other than abortion reveals a figure of 58.7 million, meaning that abortions accounted for just over 42 percent of all human deaths in 2021.

By comparison, worldwide deaths from coronavirus in 2021 totaled around 3.5 million, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Worldometer — voted one of the best free reference websites by the American Library Association (ALA) — keeps a running tally through the year of major world statistics, including population, births, deaths, automobiles produced, books published, and CO2 emissions. Liberal Men Are Snipping Their Own Nuts to Protest an Abortion Law

A Texas doctor said his practice has seen a nearly 15% increase in vasectomies as men try to push back against the state’s abortion law, The Washington Post (WaP0) reported Sunday.

Koushik Shaw, a doctor who practices at the Austin Urology Institute, told WaPo his practice saw a roughly 15% increase in scheduled vasectomies following the state’s Sept. 1 abortion ban.

Shaw told the outlet patients are coming in, saying “‘Hey, I’m actually here because some of these changes that [Gov. Greg] Abbott and our legislature have passed that are really impacting our decision-making in terms of family planning,’ so that was a new one for me as a reason – the first time, patients are citing a state law as their motivating factor.”

The law effectively bans most abortions after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which occurs around six weeks after conception. (Read more from “Liberal Men Are Snipping Their Own Nuts to Protest an Abortion Law” HERE)

Supreme Court Allows Texas Heartbeat Act to Stand, but Says Abortionists Can Continue Lawsuits

The United States Supreme Court released Friday a pair of decisions in the challenges to a Texas law effectively banning abortions upon detection of a fetal heartbeat, rejecting the Biden administration’s challenge to the law while allowing abortion industry lawsuits to proceed in the lower courts.

Senate Bill 8, the Texas Heartbeat Act, requires abortionists to screen for a preborn baby’s heartbeat and prohibits abortion if a heartbeat can be heard (generally as early as six weeks), with exceptions only for medical emergencies. Its unique enforcement mechanism, which “exclusively” empowers private citizens to bring civil suits against abortionists instead of state prosecutions, has been credited for the Supreme Court’s September decision not to block it from taking effect.

Oral arguments last month indicated that a majority of justices were at least somewhat sympathetic to the state-level challenges but less so to the federal one, which was reflected in the outcomes.

The first decision in United States v. Texas runs a mere three sentences, and simply declares the Biden administration’s challenge to the law as “improvidently granted,” with left-wing Justice Sonia Sotomayor the only noted dissenter.

The second decision in Whole Woman’s Health et al v. Jackson (the abortion industry’s suit against the law) runs 48 pages and is more complicated. The majority opinion, by Trump-nominated Justice Neil Gorsuch, rules that challenges to the law prior to it being enforced are permissible against “some of the named defendants but not others.” (Read more from “Supreme Court Allows Texas Heartbeat Act to Stand, but Says Abortionists Can Continue Lawsuits” HERE)

Poll: Most Americans Believe In Biblical God, Heaven and Hell, and Purpose for Suffering

If you only watched corporate media’s coverage of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Organization abortion case before the Supreme Court last week, you’d think very few people still believed in Christianity and its values, prominent among which is the belief that life is divinely created and precious. But a recent poll suggests the majority of Americans do express a belief in God.

In a survey of some 6,500 American adults, Pew Research Center found that many Americans still hold religious convictions including a deep and abiding belief in God, belief in heaven and hell, and the belief that God is not to blame for human suffering. . .

In the survey, a majority of Americans (58 percent) define their God as the one described in the Bible. Another one-third (32 percent) believe in a god or spiritual power, although not necessarily that of the Bible. All told, nine in 10 Americans believe in some higher power working in our world.

As for respondents’ religious affiliation, Pew found some 66 percent identified as Christian — 42 percent Protestant and 21 percent Catholic. Another 28 percent claimed no religious affiliation, including 10 percent who were atheist or agnostic and another 18 percent who said they believed “nothing in particular.” . . .

Trusting in God means he controls our eternal destiny. Nearly three-fourths of all adult Americans (73 percent) believe in heaven. (Read more from “Poll: Most Americans Believe In Biblical God, Heaven and Hell, and Purpose for Suffering” HERE)

Justice Thomas Asks: Where Is the Right to Abortion in the Constitution?

During oral arguments for Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization Wednesday, the case that could effectively overturn Roe v. Wade, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas asked a number of questions. Typically, Thomas stays silent.

During one exchange with U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar, Thomas pointed out a number of constitutional amendments that very clearly protect specific rights of Americans. He then asked Prelogar where abortion fits in.
