‘I Stared and Stared At My Son’: Mom Screamed for Abortion Workers to Call 911 after Baby Born Alive

In previous articles, Live Action has covered cases where babies born alive after abortions were denied medical care and allowed to die, or, in some cases, were killed by direct action. The recent trial of Kermit Gosnell shows that these incidents continue to occur. The sheer number of cases we know about leads one to wonder how often babies are born alive, but no one outside the abortion clinic ever knows.

In April of 2005, a pregnant woman named “Angele,” decided to abort her 22 week old unborn baby. She was in her 30s, divorced, and already had two children. She did not want a third child. She chose Orlando Women’s Center, also called EPOC Clinic operated by Dr. James Pendergraft. The abortion clinic’s website advertises “3 minute pain-free abortions.” The Orlando Women’s Center has published newspaper ads offering abortions up to 28 weeks.

Angele had named her baby Rowan. She chose a method of abortion that she hoped would cause the child a minimum of suffering – an injection of digoxin in the heart to kill him, rather than dismemberment by D&E.
The abortionist first had to insert laminaria, small sticks that expand inside the woman and dilate the cervix, making the abortion procedure easier. Before the insertion of laminaria, Angele was given a sedative. In her own words:

“The injection burned a lot as it went in. … The discomfort was distracting. I still felt the ‘lams’ as they were being inserted. Dr. Perper told me to relax my muscles and noted that my cervix was slightly soft. I asked him what that meant and he said it was good.”

Angele says the clinic workers discussed injecting the digoxin, but they never did. She described the doctor Harry Perper, MD, as “a very fast moving, hyperactive type of person.”

Abortion Laws in Doubt: 23 Weeks is ‘The New 24’ in Terms of Survival

The current abortion law in England states that abortion can be carried out until the 24th week of pregnancy. New medical advances across the pond, however, prove that babies can survive outside the womb earlier than initially believed. The Daily Mail reports on what this could mean for national policy:

One top paediatrician says care for very premature babies has improved so significantly that at his hospital those born at 22 and 23 weeks are now more likely to live than die.

In light of this revelation, Dr. Martin Ward Platt, a consultant neonatologist at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, England, said more mothers are opting to carry their children to term:

“The conversations we are having with parents are very different from the ones we were having ten years ago. Twenty three [weeks] is in essence the new 24. Things have shifted so much that most parents tend to be up for saying, ‘let’s give it a go.’”

Pro-choice psychologist describes abortion she witnessed; baby would now be adult

By Sarah Terzo.

Dr. Magda Denes was a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst who died in 1996. 20 years before her death, she wrote a book called “In Necessity and Sorrow: Life and Death inside an Abortion Hospital. “

Magda Denes was pro-choice for her entire life and talks in the book about why abortion should remain legal. However, when it was published, the New York Times reviewer called it ”a highly emotional anti-abortion tract.” Why?

It seems that Denes, who had had an abortion herself, was honest about what she witnessed in the clinic, instead of sugar coating the reality of abortion the way the New York Times (and other mainstream media) has always tended to do. She used plain, honest language to describe abortion procedures and the bodies of aborted babies.

One procedure she described was a D & E (dilation and evacuation) abortion. This procedure, which was new at the time, is still popular today. It takes place in the second and early third trimesters and consists of the abortionist reaching into the womb with forceps and pulling apart the unborn baby. You can see a diagram of it here.

Mom Wishes She’d Killed Her Son With Down Syndrome…”I Wish it Every Day”

Photo Credit: David CrumpThis Week’s Sign the Apocalypse is Upon Us

Ah, the things you do for love. From buying expensive gifts, to changing our looks, to devoting every waking moment and thought to your loved one, you craft your world around your precious; you can’t help but plainly show who and what you love.

For example, love has made a woman in London publicly wish that she’d killed her son with Down Syndrome. Well, she’s calling it love.

Gillian Relf gave a disturbingly candid interview to the Daily Mail, and she says she wishes “every day” that she had aborted her son, Stephen.

As Life News reports:

Mrs. Relf, 69, regrets having her son, Stephen, who is 47, because he has Down syndrome and requires constant and daily care. She worries about what will happen to her son when she dies.

Relf starts with an embarrassing anecdote about how her son refused to sit in his seat on an airplane for a family trip to Greece.

The pilot had been very patient but, after an hour of the plane waiting on the Tarmac at Heathrow, with my son Stephen refusing to get up off the floor, sit in his seat and buckle up, our bags were removed from the hold and he was carried off the flight, my husband Roy and I walking, hot-cheeked and humiliated, behind.

Our family holiday to Greece would not be going ahead, after all.

That certainly sounds frustrating…and grounds for homicide, of course. The classic “anyone who spoils my vacation in Greece should be executed” defense.

Relf’s example is meant to typify the challenges she faces as she cares for her son’s special needs, a struggle that any parent could sympathize with. Most parents however, might wish for an end to the challenges, not the end of their child…which to Mrs. Relf seem one and the same.

“So difficult has it been that I can honestly say I wish he hadn’t been born.

I know this will shock many: this is my son, whom I’ve loved, nurtured and defended for nearly half a century, but if I could go back in time, I would abort him in an instant.”

Got to admit, not many moms “love,” “nurture,” and “protect” their child by wishing they’d killed him. Must be the newest evolution in the species.

After all, this life isn’t what Relf wanted. She dreamed of a perfect baby, perfect family, perfect life. And Stephen doesn’t fit what she wanted. So apparently, he’s got to go.

In her article, she blames doctors for not giving her an amniocentisis. You know, so she could have diagnosed her son’s Down Sydrome…and then executed him for it.

Stephen came into the world one Sunday in January 1967 at the Kent & Canterbury Hospital. The following Wednesday, I looked at him in his cot: his small, almond-shaped eyes, broad, flat nose and the one crease on the palms of his hands.

‘He’s a mongol, isn’t he?’ I gasped to my mother. It sounds shocking now but that was how we used to describe people with Down’s Syndrome in those days.

And lest you think this was just her initial emotional reaction, and that upon reflection, she might think her son’s life is actually more valuable than her preferences, Mrs. Relf reiterates again in the article, that she wishes she’d had killed Stephen.

Perhaps you’d expect me to say that, over time, I grew to accept my son’s disability. That now, looking back on that day 47 years later, none of us could imagine life without him, and that I’m grateful I was never given the option to abort.

However, you’d be wrong. Because, while I do love my son, and am fiercely protective of him, I know our lives would have been happier and far less complicated if he had never been born. I do wish I’d had an abortion. I wish it every day.

If he had not been born, I’d have probably gone on to have another baby, we would have had a normal family life and Andrew would have the comfort, rather than the responsibility, of a sibling, after we’re gone.

A normal life. Truly, the highest virtue to which one can aspire.

Honor, compassion, courage, self-sacrifice…they all pale in comparison to the nobility of “normalcy” (as defined by the latest of mirage of our mercurial hearts). Who are we to stand in the way of such a lofty goal? Who is her son?

In fact, why can she not take his life now? If one grants Mrs. Relf’s position as an ethical one, there’s no reason she should not kill her adult son today…in a 188th trimester abortion. It’s not like, after 47 years of joy, pain, growth, struggle, and humanity, that Stephen is really a person. Not really. He’s a burden. And his mom wants him gone. It’s all the same love.

And love makes us do crazy things.

Well, love…crippling narcissism…murderous egomania…they’re all basically the same.

REBEKAH MAXWELL

Rebekah Maxwell grew up from stage to stage in a Midwestern gypsy band, singing and playing music with her family. She was homeschooled from backstage to the front pew, a system that suited her independent, slightly contrary, nature. She completed her high school work at age 16, and then promptly got a job as announcer at a local radio station, opting for a career that combined music, microphones and live performance with a steady paycheck. She began reporting and producing at WHO Radio in 2007, with on-air work recognized by the official alphabet soup: the AP, IBNA, NBNA, RTDNA, NAB (all the while staying far from the TSA and UFOs). While she attended Drake University to learn the ropes of legitimate broadcast journalism, she’s also been quoted as saying that her experience with the Deace Show has been at least as educational as college (and at a lower interest rate). She delights in debating religion, politics, and all other subjects impolite at the dinner table. Her favorite time of year is Caucus season, and she’s an accomplished slam poet, ready to spit the truth…in mad rhymes, if necessary.

Future Abortion Doctor: “Seeing an Arm Being Pulled Through the Vaginal Canal Was Shocking”

Men and women who are considering providing abortions as a career must overcome their natural revulsion to witnessing violence. They must silence their consciences and prepare themselves to participate in the destruction of human life on a daily basis. If they cannot do this, they will not be able to perform abortions. Here are quotes from four people – two medical students, a doctor, and a would-be Planned Parenthood director, going through this process.

1.) A doctor who was trying to decide whether or not to perform abortions witnessed a second trimester procedure and described what she saw:

Seeing an arm being pulled through the vaginal canal was shocking. One of the nurses in the room escorted me out when the colour left my face… Not only was it a visceral shock; this was something I had to think deeply about…. It… cannot feel pain or think or have any sense of being, but the reality is, this cannot be called ‘tissue’. It was not something I could be comfortable with.

You can see how this doctor tries to rationalize what she’s seen by telling herself the baby didn’t feel pain while being dismembered. Yet she remains troubled. She decided to do only early abortions, ones in which the baby would not be fully formed or would be so delicate and small that it would be completely torn apart by the suction machine. Since these abortions leave no recognizable parts behind, this doctor could convince herself that abortion is only “removing tissue.”

2.) Sue Thayer worked for Planned Parenthood until being converted to the pro-life cause. Thayer was never enthusiastic about abortion, and the clinic where she worked did not perform them. But since a huge part of Planned Parenthood’s business is providing abortions, and Thayer would be expected to provide referrals to abortion clinics, her bosses told her to witness the procedures firsthand. They wanted to be absolutely sure that Thayer was okay with abortion before they hired her.

Outrage: California Forcing Churches to Provide Abortions (+video)

Photo Credit: LifeNewsThe state of California is compelling churches to cover abortions, despite religious objections, or face the consequences from California’s Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC). . .

In a letter to the one of the churches involved, obtained by The Federalist, California’s DMHC argues that surgical abortion is “a medically necessary basic health care service for which all health care services plans must provide coverage under the Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act.”

The letter goes on to state that, while the department recognized the religious exemptions at first, they are “now is requiring health care service plans to provide coverage of all terminations of pregnancies, effective immediately.”

Several churches involved are fighting back.

The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) and the Life Legal Defense League filed a suit on behalf of seven churches across California. On the lawsuit against the Department of Health and Human Services, ADF senior counsel Casey Mattox claimed that, “California is flagrantly violating the federal law that protects employers from being forced into having abortion in their health insurance plans,” according to World Magazine.

Greg Orman: Talking About Abortion "Prevents Us From Talking About Other Important Issues"

Photo Credit: LifeNewsIn this week’s Kansas Senate debate between Greg Orman and incumbent Sen. Pat Roberts, the moderator asked the two about ultrasound laws. Independent candidate Greg Orman (there is no Democrat running in the race) discussed abortion by saying he doesn’t want to discuss it:

Orman: I think we spend a whole lot of time in this country talking about this issue and we have spent a lot of time over the last couple of decades talking about it. And I think it prevents us from talking about other important issues… I’m pro-choice.

Planned Parenthood Turns 98: Celebrates 6.6 Million Abortions With Picture of Baby Carriages

Planned Parenthood, the nation’s biggest abortion business, is celebrating its 98th birthday today and the abortion giant has done over 6.6 million abortions since Roe v. Wade, more than any other abortion company.

In a terrible irony, Planned Parenthood tweeted out a picture of baby carriages to celebrate its anniversary.

Jim Sedlak of American Life League says the abortion giant has built itself on Margaret Sanger’s racist philosophies.

“Planned Parenthood Federation of America dates its beginning to Oct. 16, 1916, when Margaret Sanger opened the nation’s first birth control clinic in Brooklyn, New York,” he explained. “Sanger had three basic philosophies that are still active within Planned Parenthood today.

Rep. Smith: Obama Gave $227M to UNFPA Implementing Forced Abortion in China (+video)

Photo Credit: CNSNews.com / Penny StarrRepresentative Chris Smith (R-N.J.) said at the Heritage Foundation on Thursday that despite his and other congressmens’ efforts to hold Communist China accountable for its one-child, forced abortion policy, President Barack Obama and his administration are not only ignoring the policy but are advancing the “brutal program.”

“I respectfully submit that not only is the Obama administration turning a blind eye to the atrocities being committed under the one-child policy, but it is even contributing financial support–contrary to U.S. law–to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA),” Smith said in a keynote address at the event.

“Under Presidents Reagan, Bush and Bush, Mr. Obama, unlike them, has thus far provided $227 million in tax payer funds–grant money–to the UNFPA, an organization that supports, plans, implements, defends–and maybe for international audiences this is most important–whitewashes the Chinese government’s brutal program.”

Smith, who is on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and chairs its subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights and International Organization, was referring to his and other Republicans’ 1984 legislation that became law as a part of a foreign aid bill that prohibits funding organizations like UNFPA that support China’s one-child and forced abortion policy.

Huckabee Threatens To Leave GOP Over Gay Marriage, Abortion

Photo Credit: Daily CallerFormer Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee says he will leave the GOP if Republicans abandon their ardent opposition to gay marriage and abortion.

Appearing on the American Family Association’s radio show this week, Huckabee was discussing gay marriage and said: “If the Republicans want to lose guys like me — and a whole bunch of still God-fearing Bible-believing people — go ahead and just abdicate on this issue, and why you’re at it, go ahead and say abortion doesn’t matter, either.”

“Because at that point, you lose me,” Huckabee said. “I’m gone. I’ll become an independent. I’ll start finding people that have guts to stand. I’m tired of this.”

Abortionist Who Stored 30 Bodies of Aborted Babies in His Freezer Loses License

A notorious abortion practitioner who infamously stored the bodies of more than 30 aborted babies in his freezer as keepsakes has lost his medical license following a lengthy New Jersey medical board hearing yesterday. After Kermit Gosnell, he’s been called the “worst abortionist in America.”

Brigham has been accused of practicing medicine without a license in Maryland during a bi-state late-term abortion scheme he ran to avoid abortion limits in his home state of New Jersey. His nefarious practices were discovered in 2010 when he and his associate, abortionist Nicola Riley, severely botched a late-term abortion on an 18-year old patient, rupturing her uterus and pulling out part of her bowel. The majority of the baby’s body was thrust into the patient’s abdominal cavity. Brigham drove the injured patient to a nearby hospital emergency room, where his suspicious behavior prompted hospital staff to call the police.

The patient was air-lifted to a Baltimore hospital where emergency surgery was required to save her life.

Police raided Brigham’s clandestine Elkton, Maryland, abortion facility and discovered the remains of over 30 late-term babies stored in a bloody freezer. (See file photo below right of aborted babies Kermit Gosnell stored in a freezer).

In December, 2010, Brigham and Riley were arrested and charged with murder in the deaths of 11 babies who were killed during illegal abortions. Those charges were later dropped after an expert witness for the prosecution withdrew from the case.
