More than 1,000 ObamaCare Plans Include Taxpayer-Funded Abortion Coverage

Photo Credit: ReutersThe Government Accountability Office (GAO), the non-partisan government watchdog, has issued a new report that identifies 1,036 Obamacare plans that cover abortion on demand at the expense of taxpayers through subsidies, a fact that confirms the provision in the health reform law requiring individuals to pay separately for abortion coverage is being widely ignored.

As FoxNews.com reports, Republican lawmakers say the “bombshell” finding demonstrates the Obama administration misled the American people when it insisted that under Obamacare, abortions would not be paid for with federal funds.

According to a press release by the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List (SBA-List), the GAO discovered that nearly all of the insurance issuers sampled are not itemizing the required separate abortion surcharge on their bills, again confirming that the Obama administration is ignoring the law’s abortion accounting gimmick.

The GAO report also reveals that disclosure of abortion coverage in plans is inconsistent, a claim that has been made by both pro-life and pro-abortion individuals and suggests that coverage transparency is lacking.

“The report directly contradicts President Obama’s 2009 promise that ‘under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions’ and his claim of being ‘the most transparent administration in history,’” states SBA-List.

Newly-Crowned Miss America Kira Kazantsev Worked at Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz

Photo Credit: LifeNewsYou probably know her best as the newly-crowned Miss America or the contestant who belted out the infectious pop tune “happy” as she gleefully tapped on a red solo cup. But here’s something you probably didn’t know about the new Miss America.

Kira Kazantsev, who represented New York state as Miss New York, worked at the Planned Parenthood abortion business — the nation’s biggest abortion company.

According to her Linked-In profile, Kazantsev interned at Planned Parenthood in Hempstead, New York. Her job duties at the company that snuffs out of the lives of young baby girls? “Assisted delivery of programs in local public schools, teaching children about mutual respect & self-esteem” and “Conducted research on Planned Parenthood Education.”

So the woman representing the nation as the new Miss America interned for the very organization that has killed millions of Americans in abortions.

Study Proves Abortion is More Dangerous Than Childbirth

Photo Credit: LifeNewsPro-abortion activists fight for abortion throughout pregnancy for any reason—no exceptions. Their fundamental argument centers on women’s health.

But stunning research shows this concern is all smoke and mirrors.

Pro-abortion activists have long tried to claim that abortion is safer than childbirth. For years they’ve touted manipulated numbers, trying in vain to bolster this myth. We’ve always known those statistics were bogus, and a study by Dr. Priscilla Coleman and Dr. David Reardon reveals abortion is much more dangerous to women than giving birth. And the results are sadly even more devastating to women’s health than even I had anticipated.

First, let me vouch for the authors of this research. I know them both to be solid individuals with a reputation for thoroughness. I met Dr. Coleman in Santiago, Chile where we lectured at their largest university. We again shared an academic podium in Quito, Ecuador the following year.

Second, allow me to explain why this study is so important. It’s compelling because of its unmatched scope…

MO Legislature Overrides Governor's Veto, Ratifies Statute Mandating 72-Hour Waiting Period for All Abortions

Photo Credit: TownHallThe Missouri state legislature passed a statute earlier this year requiring all women seeking abortions to wait 72 hours before obtaining one. However, because there were no exemptions enumerated in the bill itself — and thus deemed too “extreme” — Gov. Jay Nixon (D-MO) vetoed it. That’s why Republicans were forced to cobble together a two-thirds, veto-proof majority coalition to override him and get it on the books — which they barely did.

The law will go into effect sometime next month:

Missouri women seeking abortions will face one of the nation’s longest waiting periods, after state lawmakers overrode the governor’s veto to enact a 72-hour delay that includes no exception for cases of rape or incest. The new requirement will take effect 30 days after Wednesday’s vote by the Republican-led Legislature, overruling the veto of Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon. He had denounced the measure as “extreme and disrespectful” toward women.

The abortion bill was one of the most prominent Republican victories in a record-setting September session, during which Missouri lawmakers also overrode 47 line-item budget vetoes and nine other bills, including one creating a training program for teachers to carry guns in schools. Earlier this year, the Republican-led Legislature overrode Nixon’s veto to enact the state’s first income tax rate reduction in nearly a century.

Woman Starts GoFundMe Campaign to Pay for Her Abortion So She Can Party

Photo Credit: LifeNewsPeople around the world use the GoFundMe web site and it’s normally a place for heartwarming campaigns to help people who have adverse medical conditions, who have been in accidents or who are raising money for other people in need or good causes. But one woman is using it to raise funds for her abortion.

Bailey’s Abortion Fund has already raised $1,654 of $2,500 by 106 people over the last two days who want to give her their hard-earned cash to pay to kill her baby in an abortion.

UPDATE AT 1:30 p.m. ET: The funding page has been taken down. LifeNews has reached out to GoFundMe for comment and has yet to receive a reply.

With the projected cost of the abortion well over the typical $450-$500 price for an early term abortion, it’s obvious that Bailey and her boyfriend are raising funds to take the life of their child in a late abortion near viability. The couple say they are raising funds for the abortion because insurance will not cover it.

Hey PBS, There is No “Compassionate” Way to Kill Babies in Abortion

The pro-life community is up in arms about taxpayer-funded PBS’ plans to televise a movie on Labor Day glorifying late-term abortions.

As LifeNews.com has reported, “After Tiller” profiles and promotes Warren Hern, Shelley Sella, LeRoy Carhart, and Susan Robinson, some of the last third-trimester abortionists left in the United States.

On September 1, PBS will be showing the pro-abortion propaganda film “After Tiller” that seeks to sanitize the practice of killing unborn children after viability in late-term abortions. The station also provides resources for people to host an at-home viewing party.

The movie “humanizes” late-term abortions and puts killing babies in abortions in “compassionate” terms. That’s something popular blogger Matt Walsh takes on in a new column. Here’s what he has to say:

Yet here we are, and you’ve decided to air a 90 minute pro-late term abortion propaganda piece. Of all of the documentaries at your disposal, you chose to give airtime on your tax funded airwaves to a film that glorifies the butchery of viable, fully formed human beings. The synopsis on your website says that the pro-infanticide film After Tiller paints a “humanizing” portrait of the “doctors” who openly kill fully developed babies who could survive outside of the womb — if they weren’t first poisoned or dismembered by these very “courageous” medical professionals.

Activists Who Condemned Illegal Abortions Now Push Do-It-Yourself Abortions

So how are a boat anchored in international waters off Dublin, Ireland, border town flea markets in Texas, a businessman in India, and a storefront in rural Iowa all related?

According to an article written by Emily Bazelon appearing in last Thursday’s New York Times (8/28/14), they’re all key pieces of the abortion industry’s transition from relying almost exclusively on standard brick and mortar clinics that performed surgical abortions to a new model where chemical abortifacients can be ordered over the internet or purchased over the counter and performed at home by women on themselves—hence the acronym D-I-Y (Do-It-Yourself) abortions.

RebeccaGompertsBazelon’s article, “The Dawn of the Post-Clinic Abortion,” begins largely as a profile piece on Rebecca Gomperts (right). As we will explained later in this story, while Gomperts herself is not currently working in countries where abortion is legal, abortion activists in the United States are watching her “radical idea of providing abortions without direct contact with a doctor” with great interest. (NRL News Today last wrote about Gomperts, a Dutch general-practice physician, at “’Women on Waves’ bringing abortions performed off shore to Morocco.”)

Gomperts is the former Greenpeace activist who launched the “Abortion Ship” from the Netherlands in June of 2001, heading for the coast of Ireland on a ship stocked with abortion pills—mifepristone (RU-486) and the prostaglandin misoprostol. She called her effort “Women on Waves.”

The plan was to anchor just outside Ireland’s coastal boundary and have women ferried out to the ship to take the pills and start their abortions. However disputes over licensing and strategy kept the group from performing any abortions there.

Why the Abortion Rate Is Declining

Photo Credit: Patricia / Creative Commons

Photo Credit: Patricia / Creative Commons

Over the most recent decade for which data are available (2001–2011), the overall U.S. abortion rate, calculated as the annual number of abortions per 1,000 women of childbearing age (15 to 44), has dropped, continuing a trend that first appeared in 1980. The decline has been steeper since 1990, with a brief plateau in the middle of the past decade. The 2011 rate for the nation is the lowest since 1973.

Discussions of U.S. abortion trends must always be accompanied by caveats. The United States has an incomplete national abortion reporting system and what is published by government agencies is subject to wide variation regarding both content and time frames. The most comprehensive report, from the Guttmacher Institute, is not issued each year; is voluntary, like the national surveillance reports issued annually by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control; and is subject to omissions that, the authors acknowledge, make estimates necessary. Several U.S. jurisdictions with particularly permissive abortion laws, including California, Maryland, and New Hampshire, gather little or no official information.

Nonetheless, the overall direction of U.S. abortion practice is clear. A closer look at individual states that have consistent data confirms this trend…

Federal Judge Blocks Louisiana's New Abortion Law

A federal judge temporarily blocked the implementation of Louisiana’s new abortion law since it could’ve led to the closure of Louisiana’s five abortion clinics. The law required doctors to have admitting privileges for hospitals within 30 miles of an abortion clinic (via Associated Press/Huffington Post):

A federal judge has temporarily blocked enforcement of Louisiana’s restrictive new abortion law.

District Judge John deGravelles says the law can still take effect Monday but officials cannot penalize doctors or clinics for breaking it while a challenge is heard.

The law would require doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges to a hospital within 30 miles of their clinics. A Center for Reproductive Rights lawsuit claims doctors haven’t had enough time to obtain privileges and the law likely would force Louisiana’s five abortion clinics to close.
