In its latest annual report, released in December, Planned Parenthood says it did 327,166 abortion procedures in the course of one year and 2,197 adoption referrals. That works out to approximately 149 abortions for each adoption referral.

The data comes from an accounting of “patient care” Planned Parenthood says its “affiliate health centers” did in the year that ran from Oct. 1, 2011 to Sept. 30, 2012.

Planned Parenthood says in it new annual report that it received a total of $540.6 million in government grants and reimbursements for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2013. That accounted for almost 45 percent of the organization’s total revenue of $1,210.4.

The 327,166 abortions Planned Parenthood did in the year from Oct. 1, 2011 to Sept, 30, 2012 was down 6,798 abortions from the 333,964 abortions the organization did in the year from Oct. 1, 2010 to Sept. 30 2011.

Still, the 327,166 abortions that Planned Parenthood did from October 2011-September 2012 works out to approximately one abortion every 96 seconds.

Over 56 Million Abortions in America Since Roe vs. Wade in 1973

Given the trends seen in recent national reports, National Right to Life now believes that there have been over 56 million abortions since 1973.

One critical piece of evidence in that calculation arrived in November of 2013, when the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported its latest national figures. It was important to find out whether the drop in abortions for 2009 seen by the CDC–4.6%–would continue in 2010. If it dropped again, we’d have some confidence that the 2009 figure wasn’t just some odd statistical aberration, that there really was some real and significant decline. It did.

As reported in NRL News Today, abortions for 2010 declined another 3.1%, according to the CDC. (See “CDC Report Shows Decline in Abortions for 2010; abortion rates and ratios both down”)

We typically like to compare and confirm those trends with data from the Guttmacher Institute, the former special research affiliate of Planned Parenthood which publishes its own private study.

Guttmacher, which surveys abortion clinics, hospitals, and private practice physicians directly, has higher and what are widely thought to be more reliable abortion numbers. Unlike the CDC, however, they do not survey every year, and have not, as of this date, published anything more recent than 2008 data when Guttmacher reported there were 1,212,400 abortions.

A short, award-winning film, produced by Hollywood legend Jason Jones along with executive producer Pattie Mallette, the mother of Justin Bieber, is changing hearts and minds on the issue of life.

“Crescendo” recounts the struggles of Maria Magdalena Beethoven, the mother of 19th-century composer Ludwig van Beethoven.

When producer Jones was 17 years old, his pregnant girlfriend’s father, who discovered her secret when the girl sought to obtain prescription vitamins, forced her to have an abortion. After the procedure, the abortionist announced that the baby was a girl. “Crescendo” is dedicated to “Jessica Jones,” their aborted baby, who would have been 23 years old at the time of the film’s release. Jason Jones believes that, if a pregnancy center was available to his girlfriend to serve her prenatal needs, their daughter would be alive today.

Mallette, the executive producer, became pregnant as a teenager and gave birth to Justin at 18. Her friends urged her to get an abortion.

“For many people, abortion care costs more than their monthly rent,” a professor testified Thursday in opposition to the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act (H.R. 7).

Addressing Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) at a House Judiciary subcommittee hearing, George Washington University Associate Professor Susan Franklin Wood testified:

“While it may not seem like a big expense to a Member of Congress, in these tough financial times, for many people, abortion care costs more than their monthly rent, putting it out of reach for their family’s pocketbook.

New demographic analysis of abortion data finds that the bulk of the procedures are on women who had sex in their teens, some as early as 12, drawing new attention to how sex impacts America’s youth.

The Family Research Council on Friday revealed some of the details in a release to Secrets to promote an upcoming family policy lecture that will include longtime abortion foe Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J.

Among the details:

– Rather than the one-third of women commonly cited by abortion supporters as having obtained an abortion, the number is one-sixth.

With Pro-Life Rally Plans, RNC Delivers Big Statement on Abortion

In an unprecedented show of opposition to abortion, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus is delaying the start of the party’s annual winter meeting so he and other committee members can join the March for Life on the Mall, The Washington Times has learned.

Mr. Priebus, a plain-spoken Greek Orthodox lawyer from Wisconsin, will join members of his party’s national committee and thousands of other abortion opponents in the annual right-to-life march scheduled for Jan. 22, the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision that declared abortion a constitutional right.

“I saw that there was a real interest among a significant portion of our members to attend and support the Rally for Life,” Mr. Priebus said in an email to The Times. “This is a core principle of our party. It was natural for me to support our members and our principles.”

Mr. Priebus, in his second term as elected chairman of the Republican National Committee, chose to delay the start of the four-day winter meeting of the GOP governing body, also scheduled in Washington, to allow himself and RNC members to attend the march. The delay is unprecedented for a major U.S. political party, several state Republican Party chairmen and other RNC members said in telephone interviews.

Abortion Doc Who Failed to Report Statutory Rapes Stops Abortions

LifeNews

LifeNews

Forth Wayne, Indiana is temporarily abortion-free now that an abortion practitioner who failed to properly report cases of statutory rape to state officials has stopped doing abortions. How long Ulrich Klopfer, the Illinois-based abortion practitioner who did abortions in this large Indiana city until problems came up recently, will stop doing abortions remains to be seen.

Klopfer is the abortion practitioner who has come under fire for failing to report abortions on teen girls who were victims of rape. Klopfer called the failures an “honest mistake.”

Meanwhile, women have now filed more than 1,200 complaints against him. The complaints are the result of 1,494 errors and omissions made by Klopfer between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2013 on terminated pregnancy reports that doctors are required by Indiana law to file for every abortion they perform. These complaints more than double the number of complaints currently pending against Klopfer.

Now, as the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel reports, Klopfer is stopping abortions because he doesn’t have a doctor at a local hospital to work with who will accept his patients in cases of botched abortions.

A pro-life doctor who was willing to treat Klopfer’s abortion patients should they be victimized by botched abortions is now no longer willing to assist him.

Baby Put in Bucket of Water and Drowned After Botched Abortion

David C. Reardon interviewed many women who had abortions for his book Aborted Women: Silent No More. This powerful book contains heartbreaking testimonies from women who regretted their abortions, as well as the most extensive survey of post-abortion women I’ve ever been able to find. Among the many testimonies in the book, Reardon presents the story of “Molly Graham,” who worked in a hospital and assisted in abortion procedures.

According to Aborted Women Silent No More, Graham had had several abortions and was not troubled by them when she began working as an anesthesiologist at an unnamed hospital that performed abortions. She assisted in numerous abortion procedures, but eventually become pro-life and would go on to counsel women at a crisis pregnancy center.

Graham’s epiphany was similar to Abby Johnson’s in that one pivotal incident caused her to realize, all at once, how wrong abortion was. It was a late-term abortion in which the baby was born alive.

In Graham’s own words:

“The last time I gave anesthesia for an abortion, it was to be a hysterotomy [a C-section abortion, where the baby is removed before viability and set aside to die, seldom performed today,] because the woman was about 6 ½ to 7 months pregnant.

2013 Was Banner Year for Putting Abortion Practitioners Out of Business

This year was a banner year for abortion-related discipline. Several abortionists came to the attention of regulators due to complaints and publicity from Operation Rescue, which took their complaints to medical boards, health departments, and even to the Federal Election Commission and into court to shut down shoddy or illegal abortion businesses.

“We are especially excited when one of our complaints, or a situation that we helped uncover results in closed clinics and disciplined abortionists. That always means that innocent lives will be saved,” said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue.

The Eastern Seaboard has been most active during 2013 in disciplining abortionists who endanger women and break the law.

Maryland led the nation in abortion-related discipline with actions against the licenses of five abortion providers and the closure of at least three abortion clinics – all affiliated with the notorious New Jersey abortionist Steven Chase Brigham.

Brigham, who Operation Rescue has worked for years to expose, has also experienced trouble with regulators in his home state of New Jersey, where a complaint has been filed by the Attorney General’s office that is attempting to permanently revoke his last remaining medical license. Brigham is accused of illegally starting late-term abortions at his office in New Jersey, then transporting women to Maryland to complete the abortions, even though he has no medical license in that state. He also is accused of falsifying medical records to hide his abortion crimes and lying about his lack of malpractice insurance by providing a false certificate from a fraudulent insurance company in the Bahamas, which was previously closed for insurance fraud.

GOP’s ‘Young Guns’ Program Backs Pro-Abortion, Pro-Gay Marriage Candidates for Congress

Although the Republican Party Platform opposes abortion and same-sex marriage, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is backing and promoting through its “Young Guns” program two congressional candidates who are homosexual, and who support same-sex marriage and abortion.

In addition, one of the “Young Guns” candidates, Carl DeMaio, has received $15,000 from the political arm of House GOP leaders Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), while the other candidate, Richard Tisei, “has won the support of the entire House Republican leadership, including a $5,000 check from the PAC run by the vice-presidential nominee, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.),” reported the Washington Post.

Richard Tisei, who is “married” to his male partner Bernie Starr, in Edgartown, Mass., is running for a congressional seat in the 6th District in the Bay State. Carl DeMaio is running for a congressional seat out of San Diego, Calif.

DeMaio, who is openly gay, supports abortion and same-sex marriage. In a press release, he said, “I see myself as a ‘new generation Republican’ who wants to challenge the party to focus on pocket-book, economic and quality of life issues in a more positive and inclusive way, rather than issues that are, frankly, none of the government’s business in the first place.”

Tisei supports same-sex marriage and is pro-abortion, having received a 100% rating from NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts. The NRCC is spending money on television ads attacking Tisei’s opponent, Rep. John Tierney (D-Mass.), as is YG Action, a political action committee founded by former aides to House Minority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), reported the Washington Post.
