Lawmaker Proposes Bill That Would Require Every State Resident to Own an AR-15

A new bill recently introduced in Missouri State House would mandate that every state citizen within a certain age range own an AR-15 style rifle.

Missouri State Rep. Andrew McDaniel (R) this week introduced the “McDaniel Militia Act,” which declares that “every resident of this state shall own at least one AR-15.” The bill defines “residents” as those between the ages of 18-35 “who is not prohibited by law or court order from possessing a firearm.”

Under the bill, state residents are given one year to purchase an AR-15 if they do not already own one.

“Every resident of this state shall own at least one AR-15. Any person who qualifies as a resident on August 28, 2019, and who does not own an AR-15 shall have one year to purchase an AR-15,” the bill states. “Any resident qualifies as a resident after August 28, 2019, and does not own an AR-15 shall purchase an AR-15 no later than one year after qualifying as a resident.” . . .

McDaniel, who is a former sheriff’s deputy, told the Associated Press that he knows his bill has no chance of becoming law. Instead, he introduced the legislation to “make a point on mandates in general.” (Read more from “Lawmaker Proposes Bill That Would Require Every State Resident to Own an AR-15” HERE)

Top Reasons You Should Own an AR-15

1. Being armed is your right and may be your civic duty.

On the one hand, for defense against common criminals, handguns can have advantages over the other two basic types of firearms: rifles and shotguns. Within and away from the home, a handgun carried in a holster is always within reach. Also, a handgun is more easily wielded with one hand, while the other hand dials 911; opens or closes a door; pulls, pushes, or carries someone to safety; or is injured. . .

2. The AR-15 is the most useful firearm with which to defend against ‘every species of criminal usurpation’ because, first and foremost, it is a rifle.

One day, new technologies in “arms”—“weapons of offense, or armour of defence,” according to a popular Founding-era dictionary—will be introduced, and we should object to the rationale the Supreme Court has established for upholding laws that would prohibit people from owning them. However, for the present, rifles are the type of firearm most useful for the entire range of defensive applications, which, in addition to defense against common criminals, includes the three historic purposes of the militia: repelling invasions, suppressing insurrections, and defeating tyranny, the latter the threat the Framers had in mind when they adopted the Second Amendment. . .

Over the last 55 years, the AR-15 has been improved more often and in more ways than the M16 and M4, and today it is the most versatile semi-automatic rifle in history. It is more accurate and, properly maintained, more reliable than the supposedly ultra-reliable AK-47 and the legendary M1 “Garand,” which, during World War II, Gen. George S. Patton called “the greatest battle implement ever devised.” Furthermore, some AR-15s exceed military specifications for the M16 and M4 in terms of accuracy and quality controls related to durability and reliability. This AR-15 Certification Ordinance Sure Sounds Like a Test Run for a Gun Registry

Remember when Boulder, Colorado banned the ownership of AR-15 rifles? They also banned high-capacity magazines and bump stocks, giving gun owners with such magazines until July 15, 2018 to either sell them or dispose of them—whatever that means. Most likely, you’ll have to turn them over to the authorities. Now, there is a grandfather clauseallowing residents who already owned AR-15s to keep them as long as they got a certificate by the local sheriff’s office. Well, that date is rapidly approaching. AR-15 owners who fall within this clause have until December 27 to certify their weapons. If owners don’t certify, they won’t be allowed to own their rifles within city limits. So far, only 85 rifles have been certified (via Denver Post):

Boulder police have certified 85 assault weapons to residents with less than a month to go before all such firearms will need to be verified or removed from the city.

A ban on the sale or possession of assault weapons, high-capacity magazines and bump stocks was passed unanimously in May by Boulder city council. Guns already owned by residents were grandfathered in; council gave residents until the end of the year to obtain a certificate.

Certification is not a registry; the department keeps no records or paperwork of any kind. The only information they have is a handwritten count, said Boulder police Sgt. Dave Spraggs. Eighty-seven certificates have been issued to date. Two of those were redundancies, for the same weapon shared between a husband and wife.

This is nonsense. And yes, it may not be a registry, but it sure sounds like a test run. We all know that the anti-gun Left wants to shred the Constitution, ban firearms, and confiscate them by force if necessary. How can one do that efficiently? You need a gun registry, which is why the universal background check push is such a fraud. We have enough laws on the books to protect law-abiding citizenry from criminals and nutcases seeking to commit heinous acts. Army Vet With AR-15 Stands Guard Outside High School

Enough is enough, says an armed U.S. Army veteran in Indiana who has decided to take student and teacher protection into his own hands after the horrifying Florida school shooting and threats of school violence rocked his own town.

Mark Cowan says he is keeping watch outside North Side High School in Fort Wayne with his AR-15 and a handgun – at least until added security is in place. Cown told WANE-TV 15 that he’s standing guard to protect students and defend them against anyone who might threaten their safety while they’re in school. He has been in contact with local police and the school resource officer.

“I [decided] to get my butt off the couch and come out here and keep an eye on these kids and teachers. They deserve it,” Cowan told the news station. “They all deserve a right to go home every night without fear of what’s going to happen during the day.”

In addition to being an Army veteran, Cowan is a member of Oath Keepers, an organization of former police officers, first responders and veterans.

“These kids mean a lot to me,” Cowan told WANE-TV 15. “These teachers mean a lot to me … this is my community, and they need protecting. And our law enforcement, as good as it is, can’t be everywhere. So it’s people like myself and the other Oath Keepers that say, ‘I’m gonna take up that slack.’” (Read more from “Army Vet With AR-15 Stands Guard Outside High School” HERE)

Police Shoot Pregnant Woman in Stomach With AR-15 [+video]

downloadThe footage in this story shows the fatal shooting of Jeanetta Riley. Riley, 35, was killed by Sandpoint, Idaho police after they were called to a hospital where she had been treated for mental health problems.

The department has cleared its officers “of any criminal wrongdoing,” claiming that they followed all proper procedures when they chose to use an AR-15 rifle on the mentally ill, pregnant woman who was holding a knife.

The officers could have used less-than-lethal weapons, like a taser, but instead they chose not only a firearm, but an AR-15 when they approached her outside of Bonner General Hospital.

The police can be heard on the video telling Riley to show her hands . . .

She does not charge or approach the officers. They clearly are in no immediate danger. They clearly had no need to shoot at that point, and were far enough away that they had time to react to any true aggressive moves by the woman . . . [T]hey just killed her with an automatic weapon designed for wartime use. All that, and the cop had the weapon set for an auto three round burst, not even just single shots. Veteran Arrested And Charged For Legally Open Carrying AR-15

Photo Credit: MW / ExaminerA decorated Air Force veteran pleaded not guilty this morning to a charge of “trespassing with a weapon capable of producing bodily harm,” after being arrested by police in Vancouver, Washington, for legally open carrying an AR-15 rifle.

Last Saturday, Mack Worley, eager to exercise his second amendment, open carried his rifle while grabbing a soda and viewing a fireworks stand before attempting to walk back to his car.

“No one had said anything negative to me. A few people came up to me and asked a few questions about what I was doing and I just explained that I was asserting my second amendment right. I was explaining to people that it’s not against the law or a crime to open carry a firearm,” said Worley.

While walking on a public sidewalk toward his vehicle, Worley noticed an officer waiting down the street in a police car. Worley, assuming the police wanted to speak with him, continued walking down the sidewalk.

“As I started walking to them, I hear on a loudspeaker to my left a police officer telling me to put my hands up,” said Worley.

New York Times Corrects AR-15 Navy Yard Story, Still Misses the Mark

After two days, the New York Times finally corrected its story claiming Virginia state law blocked Aaron Alexis from buying an AR-15 rifle before his rampage at the Navy Yard. The article, however, still is not accurate.

On Tuesday, I wrote that the Times was part of the widespread effort in the liberal media to tie the AR-15 rifle to the mass murder or 12 innocent people in Washington on Monday.

The headline was — and is — “State Law Stopped Gunman From Buying Rifle, Officials Say.”

It said that the gunman was stopped from buying an AR-15 “because state law there prohibits the sale of such weapons to out-of-state buyers, according to two senior law enforcement officials.”

In fact, there is no residency requirement in federal or state law for purchase of shotguns or rifles.

Congressman Sees IRS Agents Training with AR-15s During DHS Tour, Demands Answers

By Dave Urbanski. This little item could give the IRS’ whole “targeting” conservatives scandal a brand-new twist.

Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) tweeted that he observed IRS agents training with AR-15s when he toured the Department of Homeland Security:

Later he added:

And this, for the doubters he ran into on Twitter:

Jeff Duncan questions IRS rifle usage

By Tal Kopan. Rep. Jeff Duncan wants to know why IRS law enforcement agents are training with AR-15 rifles.

As chairman of the House Homeland Security oversight subcommittee, Duncan (R-S.C.) toured a federal law enforcement facility in late May and noticed agents training with the semi-automatic weapons at a firing range. They identified themselves as IRS, he said.

“When I left there, it’s been bugging me for weeks now, why IRS agents are training with a semi-automatic rifle AR-15, which has stand-off capability,” Duncan told POLITICO. “Are Americans that much of a target that you need that kind of capability?”

While Duncan acknowledges that the IRS has an enforcement division, he questions if that level of firepower is appropriate when they could coordinate operations with other agencies, like the FBI, especially in a time of austerity.

“I think Americans raise eyebrows when you tell them that IRS agents are training with a type of weapon that has stand-off capability. It’s not like they’re carrying a sidearm and they knock on someone’s door and say, ‘You’re evading your taxes,’” Duncan said. Read more from this story HERE.

Rep. Chris Smith: 'If Gosnell had shot Seven Infants with an AR-15 it would be National News'

Thanks to conservative new media, the Kermit Gosnell trial is finally part of the national dialog. But before the mainstream press got around to doing their job, ten congressmen took to the floor of the House to protest the lack of media attention being paid to the horrifying story. One such congressman, Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), contrasted the abortionist’s trial to another ongoing narrative that the media covers obsessively: gun control. “If Dr. Gosnell had walked into a nursery and shot seven infants with an AR-15, it would be national news and the subject of presidential hand-wringing,” said Smith, a member of the House pro-life caucus.

LifeSiteNews reports that Smith accused the national media of almost uniformly discounting the trial of the abortionist who allegedly snipped the spinal cords of babies who were born alive during abortion procedures in his clinic. Smith referred to the media’s decision to ignore the trial as a deliberate “cover-up.”

“Will the decades-long major national news media cover-up of the brutality—and violence—of abortion methods ever end?” asked Smith. “Will Americans ever be told the horrifying details as to how—and how often—abortionists dismember, decapitate, and chemically poison innocent babies?”

Smith went on to ask, “Murdering newborns in the abortion clinic, it seems to me, is indistinguishable from any other child predator wielding a knife or a gun. Why isn’t that child seen as a patient in need of medical care, warmth, nutrition and dare I say—love?”

Testimony in the Gosnell trial, that has included descriptions of gruesome acts of beheadings, abuse, death, and body parts of babies in jars, has led to the abortionist’s clinic being labeled a “house of horrors.”

A Week Before Sandy Hook Shooting, Connecticut Asked AR-15 Maker To Move Into State

Connecticut government officials tried to coax the maker of the Bushmaster AR-15 semiautomatic rifle into choosing the state as their home base, but they rescinded the offer days later in response to the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

“It was a significant tragedy that was fresh on everybody’s mind,” state Department of Economic and Community Development deputy commissioner Ronald Angelo told The Hartford Courant to explain why Connecticut decided not to give the maker of the AR-15 a $1 million loan. The state offered the loan eight days before the Sandy Hook shooting and pulled it four days later.

Angelo also pointed out that FreedomGroup, which owns Bushmaster, was changing hands. “If you take that [shooting] into account along with the very unknown structure and unknown condition of the Freedom Group because of the [announced] sale of that entity by its parent, it’s too much of an unknown,” he said.
