Sen. Ted Cruz: Obama has a “Consistent Disregard for the Bill of Rights”

Photo Credit: CNNPresident Barack Obama’s suggestion that state “Stand your Ground” laws should be examined after the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin could amount to an assault on the right of Americans to own guns, Sen. Ted Cruz said in Iowa Friday.

Speaking after addressing a Republican group, Cruz told reporters he hadn’t yet watched Obama’s remarks. But when asked to respond to Obama’s call for a review of laws in individual states, Cruz responded by saying the president was trampling on constitutionally guaranteed rights.

“It is not surprising that the president uses, it seems, every opportunity that he can to go after our Second Amendment right to bear arms,” the Texas Republican said. “This president and this administration has a consistent disregard for the Bill of Rights.”

For example, Cruz said the Obama administration was violating free speech guarantees by “restricting the rights of our servicemen and women to share their faith and not be gagged,” and that the use of drones raised other constitutional questions.

Obama on Friday made his first public comments about the acquittal of George Zimmerman last week in Martin’s shooting death in 2012.

Senator Rand Paul: We Can’t Trust the Fed’s Clandestine Services (+video)

Senator Rand Paul appeared on Sirius XM Patriot 125 and, in a wide-ranging interview with Mike Church, hammered the National Intelligence Director James Clapper for lying to Congress. Paul contends that that creates trust issues regarding anything the clandestine services tell Americans:

You know, in March of this year, the Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper came to the Senate and he was asked directly by Senator Wyden, “Are you collecting data on American citizens,” and he said, “No.” And interestingly, he’d been prepped for the questions. Senator Wyden’s office called him in advance and said, “We’re going to ask you are you collecting data on Americans.” So wasn’t not like he fumbled around and kind of gave a wrong answer, he just decided to lie.

When he was caught in the lie he said well I said the least untruthful thing I could think of. Well, that does make us a little bit skeptical of what they’re saying.

Rand Paul then goes on to explain that Clapper excused his lie, arguing that the truth was classified.

Senator Paul makes it clear that he supports the efforts the feds undertake to protect Americans from terrorists, but that he is concerned about the potential of the enormous power of the federal government being wielded against innocent U.S. citizens.

He also discusses drones and the FBI Director’s admission that they are presently being used for surveillance of the American citizens:

He states that lawmakers should demand Holder’s resignation.

Cruz raises the issue of Fast and Furious, and laments that it is no longer in the public eye.

He also insists that Obama take responsibility and tell the truth.

Cruz singles out the White House’s press secretary for making “an objectively false statement,” made on behalf of the President of the United States:

Mark Levin: Feds Not Focused on Criminals, They’re Focused on “We the People”

Photo Credit: Daily Caller At the National Rifle Association Convention in Houston on Friday, conservative talker Mark Levin told attendees that the Bill or Rights were “under attack” from progressives in Washington, D.C.

“The forces that are gathering now in Washington and in the states to destroy our Second Amendment right are ominous,” Levin the author of “Ameritopia: The Unmaking of America,” said. “They’re not focused on criminals. They’re not focused on mass murderers. They’re focused on ‘we the people.’ The fact of the matter is these are very, very perilous times. The federal government is becoming increasingly powerful. The Bill of Rights are under attack — unless you’re a mass murder or a terrorist, in which place they kick in and are strongly defended. What I’m talking about are law-biding citizens.”

“That’s who I care about, citizens who work hard, pay their taxes and want to defend their families and want to go hunting and want to have target practice. Or they have guns that sit in their closet for 30 years, and they never touch,” he said. “What do I care what they do with their weapons as long as they’re law-biding? And this is the point.”

“I hear it often said, ‘You don’t need this type of firearm,’ ‘You don’t need this amount of ammunition,’” he said. “Well, wait a minute — who gets to decide that? We get to decide that. It’s not a bill of needs — it’s a bill of rights. The Second Amendment is included. As a matter of fact, there would be no Constitution but for the Bill of Rights.”
