Border Patrol Chief: Texas Border Law Won’t Harm Strong Work With TX Officials or Keep Us From Doing Our Job

During an interview with CBS News on Thursday, Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens responded to a question on the Texas border law by stating that the Border Patrol works very well with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the law won’t stop Border Patrol from doing its job, and he thinks Border Patrol will continue to work well with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

CBS News Immigration and Politics Reporter Camilo Montoya-Galvez asked, “The State of Texas right now is asking federal courts to allow it to enforce a law known as S.B. 4 — I’m sure you’re familiar with it — which would allow the state to arrest migrants on criminal charges and to order them to go back to Mexico. Would that law make the situation worse or better?”

Texan National Guard Seizes Land by Border to Block Illegals, Kicks Out Border Patrol

The Texas National Guard has seized control of a park at the U.S. southern border and is now blocking Border Patrol from entering the area – part of an effort to stop the surge of illegal immigration into Texas and a move likely to significantly increase tensions between Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and the federal government.

The state government has taken control of Shelby Park in the city of Eagle Pass, Texas, which has been at the center of the migrant crisis that has engulfed the U.S. border. Authorities have now set up razor wire and fences to block off the area. . .

In a statement, the Texas Military Dept. said it has maintained a presence in the park since 2021, including with security points and temporary barriers.

“The current posture is to prepare for future illegal immigrant surges and to restrict access to organizations that perpetuate illegal immigrant crossings in the park and greater Eagle Pass area,” it said.

The Border Patrol union confirmed to Fox News that agents were being blocked from entering by Texas soldiers, and praised Abbott for taking matters into his own hands. (Read more from “Texan National Guard Seizes Land by Border to Block Illegals, Kicks Out Border Patrol” HERE)

Biden Admin’s Secretive Plan For Illegal Aliens Exposed in Internal Emails

Border Patrol leadership last month set daily “bookout” targets for its sectors in order to keep escalating numbers of migrants in custody at a “manageable” level — including potentially increasing releases into the U.S. interior — as agents continue to see a rise in numbers at the southern border.

An internal Aug. 8 email from an acting deputy chief to Border Patrol field chiefs and deputies says that sectors are facing an influx that is outpacing the numbers of migrants being either released or transferred to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for removal.

The email, obtained by Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody’s office, says daily encounters “[continue] to surpass the daily permanent bookouts and the in-custody numbers continue to rise creating significant risks to agents and detainees.” . . .

Consequently, the agency proposes “daily bookout targets” per sector “to bring in-custody numbers to manageable levels” based on 7-day averages. It then says that, if “consequence pathways” such as expedited removal are not available, then releasing migrants with Notices to Appear (NTA/OR) at a future court date should be used.

“We respectfully request that you urgently use these bookout targets to formalize your daily processing pathway plans, to include transitioning to NTA/OR when consequence pathways are not sufficient.” (Read more from “Biden Admin’s Secretive Plan For Illegal Aliens Exposed in Internal Emails” HERE)

After Slaying, County Wonders Who Freed Illegal Alien Murder Suspect

Carlos E. Corrales-Ramirez was wanted in connection with a stabbing in Laurel, Maryland, in February and was arrested a month later by the Border Patrol near the border with Canada.

Authorities in New York are wondering why the 20-year-old Honduran illegal immigrant was free in their community on Saturday when, they say, he stabbed and killed another man.

The Border Patrol says it caught Mr. Corrales-Ramirez near Champlain in March and turned him over to the New York State Police. State police said they sent him to the Clinton County Jail to be extradited to Maryland, but court records show Maryland still has an active warrant, indicating he never made it that far.

The case has reignited questions about the porous border, sanctuary cities and their role in crime.

“We want some answers here,” Rensselaer County Executive Steven F. McLaughlin told The Washington Times on Tuesday. “One of my constituents was murdered by somebody that was already caught. … We don’t know really anything other than he was apprehended and somehow not sitting in jail or not deported.” (Read more from “After Slaying, County Wonders Who Freed Illegal Alien Murder Suspect” HERE)

Overwhelmed Border Patrol Releases Terrorism Suspect Into U.S.: Federal Audit

The Border Patrol caught a terrorism suspect at the southern border but was too overwhelmed by the surge of migrants to properly flag the person and instead released the person into the country, according to a new government audit.

Once Homeland Security realized the bungle and sent agents to arrest the suspect, it took them more than two weeks to mount the operation because officers were waiting for paperwork to reach them and then had trouble getting access to the GPS tracking device the migrant was wearing, the department’s inspector general said.

Investigators said Customs and Border Protection must fix the errors or else it “risks releasing individuals into the United States who potentially threaten national security and public safety.”

The issue is of particular importance given the surging number of terrorism suspects being nabbed as they jump the southern border.

Some 125 have been caught between Oct. 1 and May 31, shattering last year’s previous record of 96, with a few months still to go in the fiscal year. (Read more from “Overwhelmed Border Patrol Releases Terrorism Suspect Into U.S.: Federal Audit” HERE)

8-Year-Old Who Died in Border Patrol Custody Was Denied Multiple Hospitalization Requests

A nurse looking after an 8-year-old immigrant girl who died in Border Patrol custody last month denied multiple requests to take the girl to a hospital.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released a statement Thursday on some preliminary findings in its investigation into the death of Anadith Tanay Reyes Alvarez of Panama. Reyes Alvarez died last month after days of serious illness, a fever of nearly 105 degrees, and appearing to suffer a seizure, according to CBP.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the facts revealed in the initial report are subject to change, the agency noted.

Border Patrol kept Reyes Alvarez and her family in custody for about a week until the 8-year-old’s death on May 17. During that time, Reyes Alvarez was overseen by contracted medical workers who administered a number of treatments to the ailing child, but did not send her to a hospital until her last day when she appeared to have a seizure and became unresponsive.

Reyes Alvarez “suffered from sickle cell anemia” and “had a history of congenital heart disease.” The medical workers who oversaw her were not aware and were never made aware of her conditions, according to CBP. Illegal Alien Who Allegedly Slaughtered Entire Texas Family Because They Made a Noise Complaint Captured by Elite Border Patrol Agents

By Daily Caller. The elite tactical Border Patrol unit nabbed a man believed to be responsible for the killing of five people in Cleveland, Texas, a Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC) agent confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation late Tuesday.

San Jacinto County District Attorney Todd Dillon said authorities arrested a man believed to be Francisco Oropesa, 38, in Cut and Shoot, Texas, according to NBC. Oropesa, who is an illegal immigrant from Mexico, allegedly conducted an “execution style” killing of his neighbors, Sonia Argentina Guzman, 25; Daniel Enrique Laso Guzman, 8; Diana Velazquez Alvarado, 21; Julisa Molina Rivera, 31 and Jose Jonathan Casarez, 18, on Friday.

“The U.S. Border Patrol was requested for assistance in the manhunt for the killer responsible for the senseless murders in Cleveland, TX. Members from the U.S. Border Patrol Tactical Unit (BORTAC) deployed to Cleveland, TX and quickly employed tactics learned from lessons learned from the recent manhunts in Pennsylvania and New York. Working with information provided by intelligence sources, the killer was surrounded and taken into custody without incident,” the BORTAC agent, who requested anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly, told the DCNF.

“The professionalism of BORTAC and the unit’s motto of Erigere Rapidus stands true in every deployment. Our prayers go to the families and the community of Cleveland, TX,” the official added.

BORTAC agents also entered elementary school classrooms during the Uvalde, Texas, shooting that occurred in May 2022 when local law enforcement waited to take such action. Texas Shooting Suspect: Gov. Abbott, Lawmakers Respond After Four-Day Manhunt Ends With Arrest

By Fox News. Several lawmakers from Texas took to Twitter to praise the efforts of a massive law enforcement task force Tuesday evening after they apprehended 38-year-old Mexican national Francisco Oropesa, who is accused of killing five neighbors including a 9-year-old child in Cleveland, Texas last month.

U.S. Marshals, Texas Department of Public Safety and the U.S. Border Patrol’s BORTAC team apprehended Oropesa, 38, without incident Tuesday evening. He was found hiding in the closet of a home, under a pile of laundry before he was taken into custody.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted: “Great job by law enforcement.”

Sen. Ted Cruz called the suspect a “mass murdering illegal alien” and said he “deserves the death penalty.”

“Thank you to the brave men and women of law enforcement who worked tirelessly to apprehend this mass murdering illegal alien who killed 5 innocent people,” the U.S. senator wrote. US Border Patrol Polygraph Test Wipes Out Half of Eligible Applicants

Nearly half of new US Customs and Border Protection recruits are failing mandatory polygraph tests, causing a crisis in the agency which is struggling to replace thousands of agents who are scheduled to retire in the near future, according to a report.

“We’re losing a lot of people, including those who have prior military service, who have active security clearances, and they fail a CBP polygraph,” Jon Anfinsen, vice president of the National Border Patrol Council, told Fox News this week. “It doesn’t make any sense.”

Anfinsen added that nearly 50 percent fail the polygraph or lie-detector component of the vetting process, putting a strain on the federal agency’s capability to hire new agents.

Although the tests are not admissible in court and have been banned by most private companies to screen employees, they have been mandatory for Border Patrol for the last 10 years. (Read more from “US Border Patrol Polygraph Test Wipes Out Half of Eligible Applicants” HERE)

Whistleblower Says Border Patrol Released Convicted Murderer Because He Had COVID

Border Patrol agents were ordered to release a convicted murderer because he had contracted the coronavirus and Homeland Security didn’t want to house him, according to a former high-ranking immigration official.

Tom Homan, who served as head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the Trump administration, said he was told about the release by a Border Patrol agent involved in the incident.

The agent wanted to become a whistleblower. Mr. Homan, in an interview last week with SiriusXM’s Patriot channel, said he directed the agent to House Republicans, who are about to take control of the chamber and its committees, giving them the ability to showcase the complaints.

“Right now, several Border Patrol agents have contacted me and wanted to become whistleblowers. I turned them over to (Rep.) Jim Jordan’s office to be processed,” Mr. Homan told The Washington Times’ Kerry Picket, who was hosting the channel’s “Wilkow Majority” program. “So whistleblowers within DHS have already come out, and they’re already being processed to give their testimony.”

Mr. Jordan is a Congress member from Ohio who is expected to become chairman of the House Judiciary Committee next year. His office didn’t respond to inquiries from The Times. (Read more from “Whistleblower Says Border Patrol Released Convicted Murderer Because He Had COVID” HERE)

Border Patrol Official Rips White House Response to Illegal Immigration Crisis

National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd accused the White House of continuing to “deflect and lie” about the situation at the southern border on Saturday.

Judd accused the Biden administration of “trying to set a new normal” regarding illegal crossings and the smuggling of illegal drugs into the United States. Judd also claimed to Fox News that the media are covering for the White House by not investigating the administration’s handling of the border.

“They don’t have to make changes if the American public isn’t upset about what’s going on,” Judd said. “But let me be clear: What we’re seeing on the border is nothing more than chaos, and it’s allowing these cartels to bring in the fentanyl. All illegal immigration is doing is facilitating the trafficking of higher value products such as drugs, criminals from special interest countries, or criminal aliens from countries, and that’s dangerous to the American people.”

Judd also addressed recent data from Fox News regarding the Del Rio Sector of the border, which had 10,343 illegal crossings, 5,903 known gotaways, and six sex offenders arrested in a span of seven days. The National Border Patrol Council president claimed the U.S. is “seeing this everywhere” across all nine borders and that, historically, only 30,000 to 40,000 should be seized at the border per month. It’s up to 200,000 people being seized at the border every month.
