Biden Admin To Spend $950M on Border Wall Repairs, Upgrades After Campaign Promise to Not Build ‘Another Foot’

President Biden famously promised not to build “another foot” of border wall during his presidency, but he’s willing to spend $950 million on upkeep of the existing infrastructure.

The Biden administration — which reversed course last month and announced it will build a new section of wall in Texas — allocated the money to repair and upgrade existing border walls in the Lone Star State, California and Arizona, according to a court filing.

Customs and Border Protection reported that four separate contracts have been awarded for “remediation work and system attribute installation” at sites in Tucson, San Diego, El Paso and El Centro.

The work will include the installation of cameras, new roads and “detection technology” that will make the barriers more effective in stemming the flow of illegal immigrants, documents state.

Remediation work will fill in border gaps, install gates, fix nearby patrol roads and address erosion and drainage issues in the immediate areas. (Read more from “Biden Admin To Spend $950M on Border Wall Repairs, Upgrades After Campaign Promise to Not Build ‘Another Foot’” HERE)

Biden Admin Finally Admits the Chaos It Created at the Border, Announces Plan for Border Wall

After years of refusing to take responsibility for the border crisis it created, the Biden Administration is stressing an “immediate need” for a border wall to stem the thousands of illegal migrants pouring into the U.S. daily.

On Wednesday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas called for a wall to be built along the Texas border despite condemning the use of such barriers in the past.

The DHS posted an announcement on the U.S. Federal Register outlining construction in Starr County in the Rio Grande Valley Sector, citing “high illegal entry.”

The post noted that there have been over 245,000 migrant encounters in the sector this fiscal year.

Mayorkas declared that there is an “acute and immediate need” to waive 26 federal laws, including the Clean Air Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and Endangered Species Act, so that physical barriers and roads can be built “in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas pursuant to sections 102(a) and 102(b) of [the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996].” (Read more from “Biden Admin Finally Admits the Chaos It Created at the Border” HERE)

Build the Wall? Finland Plans Border Fence With Russia as NATO Membership Looms

As walls go, it’s shaping up to be far less imposing than the Berlin Wall and not nearly as politically divisive as former President Donald Trump’s coveted barrier between the U.S. and Mexico.

But Finland‘s planned border fence with Russia looks to be a major geopolitical statement, one that could fuel even greater tensions between the Kremlin and the West while signaling that Russia‘s war in Ukraine may have forever altered Europe’s attitude toward its hostile neighbor.

Finnish border guard officials announced recently that they will begin construction next spring on a nearly two-mile stretch of fence on the Finland-Russia border near the eastern town of Imatra, according to Euronews and other media outlets. Beyond that initial construction, Finnish leaders earlier this month proposed spending up to $143 million to build many more miles of border fence along the country’s boundary with Russia, with the fence eventually stretching well over 100 miles.

If completed, such a fence could cover between 10% and 20% of Finland‘s 833-mile border with Russia, the largest such boundary that any European nation shares with Russia. (Read more from “Build the Wall? Finland Plans Border Fence With Russia as NATO Membership Looms” HERE)

Democrats Who Won’t Build Border Wall Build Border Fence Around US Capitol (VIDEO)

After years of opposition to a southern border wall and even a government shutdown to prevent one, congressional Democrats have become fond of physical barriers on their own doorstep as they deprive Americans of the same protection.

On Sunday, the U.S. Capitol Police confirmed that the same perimeter fencing that surrounded the complex months after last year’s Jan. 6 riot would be restored ahead of President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday.

“Out of an abundance of caution, and in conjunction with the United States Secret Service, a plan has been approved to put up the inner-perimeter fence around the Capitol building for the State of the Union Address,” said Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger in a press release. “I have also requested support from outside law enforcement agencies as well as the National Guard to assist with our security precautions.”

The fencing was up in 2021 from January through July. It was last installed ahead of a rally for Jan. 6 defendants in September. The barrier’s resurrection comes as Washington, D.C., braces for a U.S. version of the Canadian trucker convoy in peaceful protest of dystopian coronavirus measures. Vehicles are expected to arrive in the capital throughout the week.

State Dedicates $250 Million To Build Border Wall

The State of Texas announced the dedication of $250 million to a disaster fund to build wall systems along its border with Mexico. The $250 million is being transferred from appropriated funds from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

“Though securing the international border and protecting the life and property of its citizens surrounding that border is the duty of the federal government, the current administration has shown time and time again an unwillingness to embrace this fundamental responsibility,” a letter to TDCJ Executive Director Bryan Collier signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, House Speaker Dade Phelan, Senate Finance Committee Chair Jane Nelson, and House Appropriations Chair Greg Bonnen on Wednesday stated. “As noted in the disaster declaration, Texas has invested a significant amount of its own resources to take action where the federal government has failed.”

During a press conference in Austin on Wednesday, Abbott said Texas is stepping up to address the humanitarian crisis being faced by Texans living along the Mexican border.

“I will tell you this,” Abbott said while addressing the Texas border crisis, “the federal government is spending seemingly, all of its resources concerning the border on the people who are trying to enter into the state of Texas.” (Read more from “State Dedicates $250 Million To Build Border Wall” HERE)

Biden’s Halt To Border Wall Just Cost 5,000 People Their Jobs

The halt to build new border wall systems ordered by President Joe Biden will mean the loss of some 5,000 construction jobs, according to the most recent former chief operating officer and former acting commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Biden, just hours after his inauguration as the 46th U.S. president on Jan. 20, signed an executive order to terminate the emergency declaration on the southern border and halt border wall construction. Former President Donald Trump had previously extended the emergency declaration on the border until February 2022 . . .

Morgan told Breitbart that those in the steel, concrete, and technology industries who supply the materials for the border walls will also be affected.

“Now, keep in mind, they’re going to be paid for what they produced so far,” he said when referring to union members in the steel industry that produce the bollards. “But for the 350 miles that Congress funded for construction … the money they are counting on to feed their families and pay their mortgage, all that goes out the window.”

He said that there are about 270,000 tons of steel bollard fencing that have already been produced but not assembled. (Read more from “Biden’s Halt To Border Wall Just Cost 5,000 People Their Jobs” HERE)

How Taxpayers Lose Out if a Biden Administration Halts Construction on the Southwest Border Wall System

Acting U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark Morgan had to take a moment for himself after he was told on December 31 that, against the odds, 450 miles of the new border wall system had been built. . .

All that progress of securing the southwest border, Morgan warned, can be undone with a Biden administration stopping construction, which Biden has promised to do. Not only will Americans lose out regarding a secure border, but Morgan said the cost to terminate the contracts will be pushed onto the taxpayer because contracts to build more of the border wall system have already been awarded.

“It is going to cost the taxpayers billions of dollars, billions of dollars in settlement fees. We’re going to walk away from areas of wall that have already been constructed. There’s going to be some areas where let’s say we already [dug] a trench and put some rebar in there. We’re actually going to stop and pay them extra to remove the rebar and fill in the trench. And in addition to that, we’ve got about 270 thousand tons of steel bollards that have been produced or are being produced that we’re just going to have to walk away from,” Morgan said.

“We’re either going to have to pay them additional money, on top of the money we paid for the materials, to either destroy what we paid them for already or to store it. It just defies logic for them to just walk away,” he added. (Read more from “How Taxpayers Lose Out if a Biden Administration Halts Construction on the Southwest Border Wall System” HERE)

Trump Celebrates Border Wall Milestone

The construction of a border wall between the U.S. southern border and Mexico is a top priority for the Trump administration. President Trump campaigned on the need for a physical barrier at the border to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States. Progress has been slow.

On Tuesday President Trump travels to Yuma, Arizona to celebrate the completion of 200 miles of border wall construction. Trump is scheduled to receive a briefing on the border wall construction, followed by a roundtable discussion on border security with local community leaders and elected leaders. The president will tour the border wall and take the opportunity to thank U.S. Border Patrol and law enforcement for their work. From Yuma, he will fly to Phoenix to speak at a Students for Trump convention. The Trump entourage will include Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf, Acting Deputy DHS Secretary Ken Cuccinelli, and Customs and Border Protection Acting Commissioner Mark Morgan.

The goal of the Trump administration is to complete 400 miles of border wall ahead of Election Day. Trump has frequently referenced the importance of a border wall in terms of national security and slowing illegal immigration. The coronavirus pandemic brought an additional angle to Trump’s pitch – a border wall helps keep deadly disease and infections out of the United States. President Taking Major Step to Complete Border Wall Construction; Trump Names Border Wall After Himself

By Daily Wire. The Trump administration is reportedly preparing to divert more than $7 billion in funds from the Pentagon to build an additional nearly 900 miles of border wall along the southern border.

Internal planning figures obtained by The Washington Post allegedly showed that the administration is planning to divert $7.2 billion to construction of the border wall.

“The Pentagon funds would be extracted, for the second year in a row, from military construction projects and counternarcotics funding,” The Post reported. “According to the plans, the funding would give the government enough money to complete approximately 885 miles of new fencing by spring 2022, far more than the 509 miles the administration has slated for the U.S. border with Mexico.”

Trump has struggled to get the funding needed to complete the construction of the border wall from Democrats who do not want to secure America’s borders and from Democrat-appointed judicial activists who have repeatedly sabotaged his immigration agenda. . .

“The decision from the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, based in New Orleans, lifts an injunction issued last month in Texas that blocked the reallocation plan,” USA Today reported. “In the 2-1 ruling, judges granted the administration’s request to temporarily halt the nationwide injunction from U.S. District Judge David Briones of El Paso. Congress appropriated the $3.6 billion to the Department of Defense for 127 construction projects, Briones had ruled, so the Trump administration shouldn’t divert it to the border wall.” (Read more from “Trump Taking Major Step to Complete Border Wall Construction” HERE)

Trump Celebrates His ‘Powerful’ Border Wall, Names It After Himself

By NY Post. President Trump pumped up the barrier he’s building along the US-Mexico border, pronouncing it “the powerful Trump wall” in a Saturday tweet.

“Illegal crossing are dropping as more and more Wall is being completed!” he crowed.

A federal appeals court handed the administration a victory Thursday, releasing $3.6 billion in military funding for the construction of new border walls. (Read more from “Trump Celebrates His ‘Powerful’ Border Wall, Names It After Himself” HERE)

Judge Puts Injunction on Border Wall – When SCOTUS Already Ruled There’s No Standing

Can I get standing to sue our policy of disarming soldiers on military bases because it embarrasses our image as Americans and makes us look weak in the eyes of the world? Well, if Trump legitimizes a district judge’s opinion granting a city government standing to sue the construction of border wall because of “reputation” issues, then there is quite literally no political question a court can’t decide, on any standing or none.

Yesterday, U.S. District Judge David Briones of El Paso, a Clinton appointee, ruled that Trump has no authority to reprogram $3.6 billion in military construction projects for border wall construction as part of his emergency declaration powers. The Department of Homeland Security was slated to use those funds to construct 175 miles of border wall in several border states.

Let’s put aside the fact that 10 U.S.C. § 2808 allows the president to reprogram defense funding for construction of barriers if he declares a national emergency, which he did last February. Even if the president indeed infringed upon Congress’ power of the purse, since when did the judicial branch hold the power of the purse? How in the world can a federal judge grant standing to random plaintiffs to rule upon a national question dealing with defense funding?

The “plaintiffs” in this case weren’t defense contractors or people standing to lose from the reprogramming. They were the city government of El Paso, Texas, and an agitation group named Border Network for Human Rights. How can a city government and a left-wing political group get standing to sue against transferring funds to our own national security?

As the Washington Post reports, the city “argued that the new barrier was unwanted by the community and would inflict permanent harm on its reputation as a welcoming, cross-border place.”

So now a single district judge can grant standing to a city government to rule on a national policy affecting national security at an international border and then place an “injunction” on all construction, even outside El Paso?

Of course not. No judges have such power. The problem is the administration continues to act as though they do, perpetuating this dangerous myth that there is nothing out of bounds for the courts to rule on.

Simply saying that the administration will appeal the decision is not good enough. This was already appealed in a similar case. After a California judge placed an injunction on the first $2.5 billion of reprogrammed funding, the Supreme Court stayed the injunction. Yet, as we’ve seen in the growing trend of lower courts ignoring the Supreme Court, that didn’t stop the El Paso judge from issuing a similar injunction.

It’s true that the California case involved the $2.5 billion in non-emergency funding to combat drug smuggling, which might be a stronger authority for the president than the $3.6 billion in emergency military construction funding, but that doesn’t matter. The reason the Supreme Court stayed the injunction is because, regardless of whether the president was correct in using the funding, courts have no power to grant standing to outside organizations to sue against a border wall. The case in California involved the Sierra Club and a group named Southern Border Communities Coalition. The reasons why these groups do not have standing applied to the El Paso case as well. “The government has made a sufficient showing at this stage that the plaintiffs have no cause of action to obtain review of the Acting Secretary’s compliance with Section 8005,” stated the 5-4 majority SCOTUS order in July.

Yet liberal judges will just come back in identical cases and start the injunction process all over again. At some point, the Trump administration needs to make the point that if the Supreme Court won’t effectively defend its own decisions from the lower courts, the other branches of government will.

Going forward, if the administration is going to salvage some semblance of border security, it has two choices: Either refuse to give force to this lawless ruling, or engage in a budget fight with Democrats and refuse to sign a funding bill without border wall appropriations. One of the two needs to take place. Otherwise, the foremost promise of Trump’s presidency goes down the tubes.
